Investigation. 3 we have new information tonight 3 on a deadly crash that claimed the lives of four usc upstate student athletes. The coroner says the driver. And others in the car had been drinking. James campbell, josh lee, mills sproull, and Sarah Vande Berg were killed after their car hit a tree in Spartanburg County in october of last year. After months of pushback. The Spartanburg County coroner released toxicology results today. 3 tonight, we are hearing from josh lees girlfriend and some of the parents of these four students. About how they feel is released. 3 Fox Carolinas Rebecca Atkins has been looking into the details and shes live outside usc upstate with more on what family and friends have to say as well as the coroner. 3 cody and diana, as you can imagine, today was not an easy day for these families. Several of them did not want the toxicology or autopsy results released at all. The coroner sought an attorney general opinion if he could release the information that hes had since november. That decision was ruled that those results are not considered confidential medical records when it comes to the coroners office. 3 3 3 3 go josh josh lee was in the prime of his life, just like his three friends, all usc upstate students that died in a tragic accident last year. 3 3 its hard, its definitely hard without him, i mean he had talks of proposing after i graduate in may so i think thats been one of the hardest parts to lose him. Courtney reilly was joshs girlfriend. She also knew, James Campbell, sarah vande burg and mills sproul who were in that car. She doesnt want the blame to fall on James Campbell who she says was driving the car. 3 3 even though there was a mistake that happened, you cant determine somebody on remembered as well as all of them for the people that they were, not just based off of this accident. In a press conference today, coroner rusty clevenger discussed how alcohol played a role in this accident. 3 3 3 in this case, indirectly, alcohol was a part of the cause of these young peoples deaths. Results show that the driver was legally drunk, and two of the passengers had blood alcohol levels above the 0. 08 legal level. Clevenger says one of the passengers barely had an alcohol level at all. Josh lees mom says that was her son, she released this statement. Our hearts are broken and so are the other three group of parents who also lost there child. Johnny and i hearts are just broken over the idea of the driver having a dui. If anyone knew josh he was the one to take the keys from his friends or even drive. So all of this just doesnt make sense to us. 3 and the mother of James Campbell who was driving the car also shared a statement about her son. James made a horrible choice, but he is a loved child of god and i have no doubt is resting in his arms right now. I am so, so with them because of this accident, including our own. Please know that james is not just this one decision. He is a lifetime of love and joy. Thank you to everyone who loves him for continuing to see him in that light. 3 and a spokesperson for usc upstate was also at todays press conference she says the school will never be the same after this accident but she says that now all incoming students are required to take a course on alcohol, she says there are also regular programs where alcohol and Substance Abuse is discussed. Diana . 3 rebecca, this really is such a tragedy for all the families and friends involved and who knew and loved these four students. Has anything been done for the students since 3 well just this past weekend, the soccer team at jl mann where James Campbell when to high school, they had a ceremony for him and they retired his jersey number, and josh lees family also has also started a scholarship in his honor.
