Also on 7, a Worcester Police officer is rushed to the hospital after he is struck by a hitandrun driver. The officer was working on a traffic detail at grafton street when he was struck. The vehicle then left the scene. The officer was taken to umass medical center. The Worcester Police department issuing a statement this afternoon saying this, the officer received a minor injury, was looked at and released. The investigation is ongoing. A New Hampshire prep School Graduate convicted of sexually assaulting a 15yearold classmate is appealing his verdict. Owen lebri was sentenced to one year in jail and required to register for life as a sex be offender, he was convicted of assaulting a freshman at st. Paul in concord last year just before he was set to graduate. Lebri remains free pending his appeal. And were following more news today. At least five people have been arrested in chicago after protestors clashed with police last night. Outraged protestors took to the streets of chicago shortly after the release of Police Dashcam video capturing a white officer shooting an africanamerican teen 16 times. That spheral now charged with murder. Mcdonald falling to the ground after being shot and hit the officer in this case took a young mans life and hes going to have to account for his action. Reporter the 37yearold officer Jason Van Dyke is charged with firstdegree murder and has been taken off the Chicago Police payroll. For now, hes being held without bond. Van dykes lawyer says his client feared for his life. Its truly not a murder case, and we feel that were gonna be very successful in defending this case. Reporter on this night, la quon was fatally shot, investigators say mcdonald was wielding a knife with a 3 inch blade that he allegedly used to slash the tire of a police car. Police say when mcdonald, who had pcp in his system ignored orders to drop the knife, van dyke fired 16 rounds. Officer van dyke was on the scene for less than 30 seconds before he started shooting. In addition to the fact that all evidence indicates that he began shooting approximately 6 seconds after getting out of his vehicle. Reporter city officials had been prepping for mass demonstrations in the wake of a peaceful protest. This opportunity for healing begins now.
