A 93yearold underground pipe burst yesterday afternoon, and was spewing water for several hours. Officials estimate that up to ten million gallons of water was lost. Numerous buildings on the uc la campus were flooded, including the pavilion where the Basketball Team plays. A School Official says water on the courts reached eight inches deep. Several people also had to be rescued from a flooded parking lot on campus. A teenage girl was almost abducted in the chicago lawn neighborhood. That happened near 63rd and saint louis monday afternoon. A 16 Year Old Girl was walking alone, when a white pickup truck pulled up to her. Thats when one of the passengers got out and tried to force her into the truck. The girl was able to break free and run away. The man, and two others, fled in the truck. No arrests have been made. Three people were shot, and one man stabbed in the neck, within a block of each other on the near west side. The shooting happened just before ten last night, in the 200 block of south western avenue, near what used to be felony franks hot dog stand. Police say a 49yearold man was shot once in the chest and died at the hospital. Two teenagers were shot in the legs. The stabbing happened in the 24 hundred block of jackson. Its unclear whether the shooting and stabbing are related. Bond is denied for a 15year old boy charged with the shooting death of a 16yearold on the south side last week. Prosecutors say rasaan price shot darren foggey, junior through his bedroom window on july 23rd. Police say the shooting in the 67hundred block of south artesian avenue was caught on surveillance cameras. Price appeared in bond court yesterday. The family of a murdered Chicago Police officer is outraged after finding his killer coaching kids baseball on the far south side. John mathews was beaten to death in 1988 by a group of five men using baseball bats. One of those men, dean chavez, was convicted in the murder and served 11 years in prison. Chavez has been Coaching Little League baseball in the hegewisch neighborhood for years but was recently fired after mathews family learned about it and complained to the leagues national office. Something is messed up with their standards if they think thats what they can give these kids, a murderer as a coach. A cop killer as a role model for young teenage boys. It is beyond disgusting. Its a slap in the face to every Law Enforcement officer out there. The Little League board is holding a Public Meeting tonight in hegewisch to address the matter. The mathews family is calling for the boards removal and a change in the bylaws so a convicted murderer cannot coach a team ever again. Jane byrnes legacy as chicagos first and only woman mayor may now be permanently commemorated, with a park named for byrne. The Chicago City Council is expected to vote today to rename the park around the chicago water tower, jane m. Byrne plaza. Byrnes daughter kathy says her mother has always been inspired by the water tower, because it survived the great chicago fire. A man from palatine is now charged with murder, in a july 18th fistfight outside a bar that killed 26yearold ryan flannigan. Flannigan tried to intervene when some other men started fighting. Police say michael platt, also of palatine, threw a punch that knocked flannigan to the ground and cracked his skull. Platt is due in bond court this morning. The Chicago City Council is expected to enact new regulations on where medical marijuana may be sold in the city. Yesterday, the councils Zoning Committee endorsed a proposal to allow no more than 13 marijuana dispensaries. They would be banned in transportation corridors, manufacturing districts, near parks or forest preserves, and in any building that includes housing. Once the new regulations are passed, the first dispensaries could open next year. The Chicago City Council is expected to vote today to increase the citys telephone tax more than 50 percent. If approved, everyone with a land line or cell phone that is billed to a chicago address, can expect to pay a dollar forty more a month for each phone line thats an extra 16. 80 a year. A City Committee approved the hike yesterday. Mayor emanuel and virtually all the aldermen support it, to avoid a politically unpopular property tax hike. The increase would take effect september first. Governor quinn says hes not bothered by a poll that has bruce rauner way ahead of him. A poll taken monday says rauner is ahead of quinn by 14percent. That poll was conducted by a group that was founded by one of rauners donors. Quinn says polls supported by political types are phony baloney. He says polls also had him losing in the last election. About one year of exercise and watching his diet, cutting fast food, soda and shrinking his Portion Sizes and he has lost 120 lbs. Instead of sitting out during activities now he can keep up with his family. Im on the stairmaster next to him and im sweating and thinking is this almost over. He goes 3040 minutes. I said what are you doing . Last week and he ran 10 mi. I couldnt believe it. Other than those closest to him he had another inspiration to lose the weight. His love of rollercoaster spirit went to the rollercoaster in the summer. When batman first came out i try to fit on there and i couldnt. It was embarrassing and humiliating and all that. That kept me away for a while. Because of that weight its been decades since hes been able to go on a rollercoaster. So gathered up the inlaws and the family members. Are going to Great America us to you can ride your first rollercoaster in 10 years. We hit the road to take him on goliath. Were going to drop a hundred and 80 ft. Its been 85 degrees dropped 72 mi.
