Luckily that boys dad was able to stop him before he took puff. Ted daniel is in braintree with the reason prosecutors say he did it. The attempted kidnapping happened here at the southshore indian market on route 53 in ai the store with his mom and dad when a complete stranger grabbed him. Reporter surveillance cameras provide a closer look at kidnapping, one, two, three, four different angles. My daughter was there about a minute before this happened. That was really scary. Reporter Police Identify the shirtless man seen here entering the store as 47yearold Steven Obrien from braintree. Win and a halfyearold weymouth boy and flings him over his shoulder. The boys parents are regular customers and at first the father mistakenly believes obrien is a store employee who is playing with his son. Obrien makes a beeline to the rear of the store and in the emergency exit in the back. The father following behind finally confronts obrien and thats when obrien hands him his son back. Good t he asked them what are you doing. Reporter Police Arrested obrien in the woods behind the store a short time later. We pulled a report. In it, the arresting officer notes that obrien had a disturbing blank look in his eyes, appearing to be under the influence of some type of narcotic. He was about four houses up from my house. Reporter obrien has a history of drug abuse and arrests including one in march where he was charged with mindaltering substance. His drug use, his brain is gone. According to the police report, obriens only words to the dad were, oh, this is your son. Obrien is charged with kidnapping and resisting arrest.
