The mosaic plant is in a really bad spot. It sits right in the middle of a massive gypsum stack. Thats the stuff that comes out of the plant after the company produces phosphate fertilizers and animal feed ingredients. Workers monitoring water levels discovered a drop. When it was first noticed, we installed pumping systems to move water out of that compartment on the gypsum stack to recover the water. Reporter the water is contaminanted with phosphoric acid, but so far its not believed to be making it to wells. They are monitoring wells and further out there are more. Were confident the wells we started up are capturing that water pulling it back. Reporter the closest homeowners who are all several water without worry, but if they have concerns mosaic will test it. So far the Company Maintains all is okay. We monitor the stack 24 hours a day seven days a week to insure that theres no safety or Environmental Concerns on top of the gypsum stack itself as well as around the rest of the property. Reporter it took a week for a worker to figure out where all this water was going. The next step out here is to repair the hole in the gypsum stack and make darned sure that the water getting into the aquifer isnt getting into wells where to drink it. A pretty scary situation. I know regulators typically get involved in a situation like this. Is the Florida Department of Environmental Protection looking into this at all . Reporter theyve been here since day one back on august 27th. So theyre here and also the feds are involved, the epa aware of whats going on and monitoring as well. The county is blaming overworked pumps in the port richey neighborhood for the problem. Chip osowski is live in pasco county tonight. Chip, the county believes the pumps were trying to handle what, four times more water than normal and just couldnt withstand it . Reporter exactly. They were actually overworked. These are the county pumps th and because they are owned and operated by the county, cedarquest Homeowners Insurance company is telling him pasco county should pay. Is that this is where it started in here this is where it started in here, started filling up in the toilet and tub eventually and as i said, it poured out, started coming out here. Reporter having no way to stop the water, michael cedarquest called the county and started recording on his tried to, you know, keep what we could out of the bedrooms and it just, you know, just kept coming. Reporter he and his friends spent the day moving furniture out of the home hoping to save what he can. He says his Homeowners Insurance isnt covering his losses because the county is to blame. The county is doing what we can. Reporter the county spokesman tells me the county is working with cedarquest but unfortunately claims take time. We are going to look at the ai claim and more than likely well probably act on it, especially since our utilities has been out there all weekend trying to help clean up that mess. A chaotic scene in new york city when a man with a meat cleaver attacked an offduty officer outside penn station. This attack happened when two officers were chasing the suspects who was trying to take a boot off his car. They had a cleaver and tried to a taser. Thats when the offduty officer joined and tackled the man to the ground, but the suspect then hit the officer in the head with the cleave leaving a 6inch gash. One of our officers sustained a significant injury to his face when he was struck by the suspect with a meat cleaver. He was in good spirits, but he had a very significant injury to his head caused by the suspect wielding that meat cleaver. Officials then fired a total of 18 gunshots striking several times this person. Everyone involved is expected to be okay, though. Police are not ruling out the possibility that the incident was terror related but say the initial call was for criminal mischief.
