Reporter thats like you and i updating our smart phones, and just after 10 00 this morning, the 911 system at the Public Safety building crashed. Reporter is there a backup plan when updating technology . There is. Reporter did it work today . The contingency plan worked today. Reporter the contingency plan, youre looking at it, calls diverted here to the st. Pete police department. A handful of dispatchers working alongside the st. Pete city employees. The problem discovered just after 10 00, and the lines were down for several minutes. Theres an emergency in those 4 minutes. What happened . At this point i couldnt tell you. Reporter at this point he says no calls went unanswered. Does that scare you what could have happened in those 4 minute. Its always a concern. Reporter in august 2014, lightning shut down not only the call center, but the backup center, too. Hundreds of people couldnt get through. Reporter it happened before, what did you do to fix the problem . Did you . Yes. Recommendations from an Engineering Firm that found the center didnt haved a the question surge protectors or proper grounding and was not fully tested for electrical surges, the problems have since been fixed. Reporter and it took about 5 hours to get the system back to business here tonight, keith. So im guessing at this point an investigation is not a third 911 failure, right . Right, keith. I gave them copies of what i was getting and said you need to make it stop. Got. Maybe i could unplug my phone. She doesnt have to turn her phone off reporter this is highly confidential information. Sending it to andrea is is a violation of federal law. Its their fault, they have to fix it, at whatever expense. Reporter the doctor today manager at the office said they were working on it last week, and this week confidential information continued to show its time to find out why.
