Last Christmas Eve she began a drive to visit her mom. She loved life. She loved life. And she lit up a room. Yes she did. But just months earlier it all began to enravel. My youngest daughter called and said mom ill be a few minutes late because theres an accident up ahead. Whats your emergency . Another driver called 911. It appears to me the person was struck by a car. Dinas younger sister had no idea. We knew she would never have she parked her car on the side of the interstate. And walked in front of a semi. But how could that happen . It was not her. She would never have ever ever done Something Like that. Ask could something four months earlier have triggered it . With prescribed sipro. As antibiotic. Theyve been associated with more than 200,000 complaints. 3,000 deaths. As a result the fda issued this warning. Serious side efejts outweigh effects outweigh the benefits. Treatment should be stopped immediately if side effects are reported. A warning that came too late any possible side effects . No. She specifically said that to us. She said she asked a doctor if there would be any side effects and she said absolutely not. Its a common antibiotic. 33 million million we are prescribed last ye nationally recognized expert on medication safety. These are things like unable to work. Unable to concentrate. Body pain. Severe pain. And very very disableling. Thats exactly what happened to dina. After the very first dpoes she had a severe dose she had a severe reaction. The very first dose. What happened. She developed a skin symptoms that grew more eveer leading up to Christmas Eve. She would beg me mom please keep me safe. Her husband and i would take turns keeping 24 7 watch on her. And the bad thoughts would keep coming. And dina is not an isolated case. We found 600 suicide related cases reported to the fda in the last 18 years. Fda assumes only 10 of cases are reported. Dangerous delays in the 911 in fact weve been reporting about problems with 911 calls in cleveland for months. On your side investigates the dangerous delays. The failures are so serious i think about her every day. I cant believe its just ringing. Theres a guy shot laying in the middle of the street. And his life was gone. Her son was shot last november the victim of road rage. There was a big possibility he could have still been here. People who saw him wanted to save him. Is somebody no. He is lying in the street bleeding. Still alive. It took more than two minutes to answer one of the callers. Oh my god come on cleveland. Close to four minutes went by before another was picked up. Frustrating the dispatcher trying to connect the caller. Hello cleveland. Cleveland . Im disappointed. You know from not having him here. Is the system broken . I think pieces are. This is an attorney who represents clevelands emergency dispatchers. Theyre concerned. Right. They asked him to talk with us because they fear retaliation from city leaders. Dispatchers have been sounding the alarm for months. Our investigation found more than two dozen reports about fall. Break downs like 911 callers placed on hold. Or lost. And malfunctioning when theres quote heavy volume. Can people in cleveland count on 911. Tim hennessey is the Public Safety director. How can you say that . Well i think when you study the log theres not that many problems that often. Dispatchers would disagree. He points to something involving your tax dollars. So many 911 calls go unanswered dispatchers work overtime just to return those missed calls. Isnt that a little late to get someone help . It is. How can 911 be functioning like this in 2016 . Its one of those its a huge volume. Were working on it. The calls. Clevelands Communications Problems dont stop there. Dispatchers are concerned about officer safety. At least three times a week as they relay critical details to them in the field their computers freeze. It stops them cold. One was so frustrated they recorded their screen going blank and sent us the video. Now youve stopped the flow of information from the caller just as troubling, how inefficient the computers are. A concerned Patrol Officer calls the system quote antiquated. Officers unable to send reports from their vehicles. Leave their patrol areas to type them up. Even from their office theyre not emailed. Theyre faxed. To a report center. A process that can take hours, leaving officers in the dark about suspects on the loose. It immediately gets uploaded. Next door Patrol Officer jake showed us their system. You can look the history of the call whether it be an arrest or citation. Information sent and received. It will save lives and im sure it has.
