Right now, police in ocala are collecting evidence in a series of shootings at apartment complexes across the city. We just got video into us of some of the damage. You can see bullets hit windows, doors. One bullet even struck a television set. Homes in the southwest and northeast sides of the city were targeted. One man says he was inside his home and woke up to the gunfire. Just don t understand what s going on back here but this is the second time it s happened. Jim police are looking into whether the shootings could be connected to one yesterday, where a man was shot in the chest outside his home on northwest 16th street. Some guests at local hotels are leaving Central Florida with souvenirs, tons of photos and paperwork from police. Thieves broke into dozens of cars in the tourist district overnight. Wesh 2 s Alex Villarreal reports the crimes all had a similar m. O. Alex Officials Say dozens of cars were broken into at multiple hotels, including here at Monumental Movieland Hotel on idrive. Also targeted overnight, the hotel and suites and country inn and suites on universal boulevard where the Orlando Police Department Says burglars smashed windows to get into the cars. We saw the cleanup under way this morning. Victims we talked to were upset, and not just with the criminals. They don t have cameras around the hotel. Like they don t responsible for nothing. No security at all. All the paperwork that they have here says that they re not responsible for anything. They said that they have the insurance that covers any kind of liability that happens outside. They re having you fill out a form and then they re throwing them away in the garbage cans right behind the counter as soon as you walk away. I saw them throw three papers away and they refused to give us a copy of our paperwork. Covering volusia county, a tragic string of events leaves a biker and woman who tried to help him dead. Troopers say the biker crashed early this morning on u. S. Highway one, near harbor road in port orange. A woman driving saw the crash and got out of her car to help that s when troopers say two other cars came along, crashed into the woman and the biker, killing both of them. The victims names have not been released. Troopers are still investigating. New information tonight in the Seminole County. Because police say she didn t do enough to prevent it. Officers in longwood say Jaime Popowski inadequately supervised being victimized. Walter ambrose was arrested more than a week ago for the rape. He is a registered sexual predator. Popowski is charged with aggravated child neglect and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The man accused of getting into a shootout with police in sanford stands before a judge today. Matt yes, jim, this Police Report details the extensive search for roshad smith that followed friday today a judge decided he ll remain here at Seminole County jail without bond. I do find probable cause. Your bond is set at no bond. Matt roshad smith answered a judge for the First Time Since his arrest friday night. Officials say smith fired shots at a sanford officer, a shootout ensued, for which, he faces you re arrested for firing a weapon into the public, attempted homicide, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon violence. Matt before the shootout, a 911 caller claimed a man fitting smith s description was pointing a gun at passing cars. An officer responded, spotted and told him to stop, that s when police and witnesses, like gibson truck world manager blaine tell us smith fired shots toward the officer, and the officer returned fire. As the guy ran this way. The officer continued firing, one hit right here and went up into the truck. Matt a bystander was hurt in the gunfire, it wasn t immediately clear whose bullet hit the victim, but the injuries weren t lifethreatening. According to an arrest affidavit, detectives say they found smith s gun and wallet in the grass near the truck dealership, they found smith s clothing strewn about during an extensive search of the area. A police k9 and infrared camera helped officers find him hiding only underwear and socks. Police say suspect smith couldn t explain why he shed his clothes after running from police. Wesh 2 has learned he was out on bond for a charge of fleeing and eluding with a suspended license, that bond is revoked. And in 2008 he was convicted and sentenced to three years in jail for culpable negligence to manslaughter or homicide. Matt lupoli, wesh 2. Jim we now know the name of the man found dead after a brush fire is snuffed out. Volusia county deputies say s body was discovered yesterday near the budget inn on East New York avenue near deland. Now, people across Orange County are trying to help a local Boy Scout Troop hit by thieves. Wesh 2 s amanda ober tells us about the reallife lesson these scouts are getting. Amanda all the thieves left behind were the bricks a trailer belonging to south Orange County Boy Scout Troop 996 used to sit on. That trailer was kept in the parking lot of all Saints Luther Church until it was stolen last week. It was used to store more than 10,000 worth of items the troop needs to function. That somebody went and took from the scouts and took this for i don t know what, profit. They might have took it was lawn equipment, but if they knew what t have taken it. Amanda sunday, candidate for Orange County sheriff, spike hopkins, gathered the scouts to ask the public to help replace what was lost including tents and camping supplies. But there are some things that can t be replaced which is why the troop still hopes to get its trailer back. Jim new at 6 00, a vero beach man is in custody for allegedly attacking his grandparents. Deputies responded to a disturbance call shortly before 3 00 this morning. They discovered an elderly couple who say they had been violently attacked by their grandson, 36yearold scott horn. Horn allegedly attempted to strangle both, and beat them with his fists. Neighbors were in shock to hear about this. It s a retired community we t happen. Jim horn initially fled on foot after the incident, but was located late this morning. Both grandparents are being treated for their injuries at indian river medical center.
