The financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and sharks. Stocks are mixed this morning as the opening bell occurred 36 Mexico minutes ago the Dow is down 22 points while the s. And p. Is up 13 points the big story today of course has to do with Amazon as it was announced that Jeff Bezos will step down as the c.e.o. And a fellow named Andy Jassi is taken over the deal Good morning everybody it's Barry and Chuck with you here on a Wednesday after everybody seems to be recovering from that big snowstorm Yeah and obviously as you mentioned the the big news is Bezos stepping down as the c.e.o. Of Amazon he's been in that role since the start of the company little bit more than 26 years ago back in 1000 Emmy we're going back to 1994 like you know I think about how long he's been there I mean again he started this company when he was 31 years old and here he is now he's 57 and he's still going to stay on as chairman of the board but obviously stepping down from that c.e.o. Role and I think you know there are a few different questions to ask on this the 1st one that comes to mind is why is he stepping down I mean obviously we talk about how being a c.e.o. Especially of a company like this is you know not for someone who is you know an advanced age but 57 I mean we see plenty of C.E.O.'s that work into their mid to late sixty's with no issues so you know I certainly. I don't think it's age related here the 2 things that I come to number one just from talking with some folks who was are involved that Amazon seems like he's been spending a little bit less and less time there is the last couple years of going on anyways I think he is getting more and more involved in his spaceflight venture Blue Origin It sounds like you know wouldn't be surprised if he wants to spend a little bit more time that way the other piece is we are in a an environment now where again rightly or wrongly big tech is at the center of an awful lot of potential antitrust legislation and regulation and to a certain extent I think by Bezos removing himself from the equation again he's the most visible face at Amazon I think it takes one potential target away just in terms of winning the public messaging war you know that I think is brewing when it comes to the regulation on these tech companies and honestly I think this is something that you know Mark Zuckerberg should have done 5 years ago when Facebook would be viewed very differently if Duckett stepped down and so I think that's part of the equation too what are your thoughts you know you're 57 years old you've got more money than you can ever possibly spend right and maybe running a company with 1300000 employees just doesn't do it for you anymore you know I could see you know for 27 years this guy's been workin 80 to 100 hours a week never get a day off right he hasn't had a day off in 27 years when you run a company that size it's never something where you can say Well honey let's go on vacation for 2 weeks and disconnect right where we're not going to answer e-mails not even to bring our cell phone it's now this guy has worked on been on call 247 for the last 27 years he may be in it could be just a stage of life where he's saying I've got enough money I want to focus on my charity events or my. Kids or my grand dogs are all you know whatever it is that he turns them on. I see guys in this plateau frequently and a you know I'd rather get out at 57 with my health because who knows you could be gone by the time you're 65 maybe you just want to go shop at Wal-Mart now I don't think that that's going to happen he can he can have somebody go shop for him but I suspect you get to a certain stage of life and you just say walk away with 200000000000. 0 not quite that much I don't think I think it's like 150 I mean it's only 196000000000. Yeah yeah I mean a like. That's just my my intuition I you could be right maybe he's going to go all in on space x. Or something like that but. The new guy I think has his work cut out for him because to your point they are facing a tremendous amount of litigation but you know a company like that is going to budget for it right they're going to say Ok we need to. You know spend $500000000.00 a year I don't know if the numbers they just budget for the say hey we you know yeah we're going to have 5 I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon had 500 lawyers on staff just in their legal department Oh absolutely they have the best lobbyist that money can buy because they realize that they are again I don't think they're you know the number one target in some of this anti-trust you know regulation that may be coming when they're certainly in the top 2 or 3 you know it's very name and am and Google and Facebook you know they're all right there as far as you know having an awful lot of eyes on them at this point so yeah it's probably a common To Do you really do you think their biggest malfeasances when you look at that company the thing that bothers me is that they sell fraudulent products online and they see if they steal product ideas from their their customers and undercut them and you know the predatory practices I think you know when I look at those activities those those take out little guys you know that some poor guy selling coffee or something has a good design for coffee sales and Amazon just puts him out of business but when you look at what they do you know from the from an overall perspective what do you think their biggest or most egregious activity is yeah I think those are probably the biggest ones whether it is the co-opting of. Good ideas by Amazon or simply the fact that in many cases we've talked about how they've allowed counterfeit products to exist on their platform that have also took say taken sales away from businesses on their platform I think those 2 you know are right up there certainly there's been some smoke when it comes to their labor practices in certain areas as well in terms of working conditions and shift things like that you know I don't know as much on that side just because I have not if I'm being honest I haven't paid as close attention to it but I would imagine that will be part of the equation as well in terms of you know when you look back again when you look back at what Jeff Bezos has done there again he's been there 26 years he found a company in his garage in Washington state and just like any other founder of a massive company there are things that made him and his company great where again the reason Amazon is what it is is because of decisions that were made by him and the people he brought on and likewise but it's also a complicated situation where they have huge failures like the you know counterfeit issue like you know the monopolistic practices that they employ as well it's very rarely black or white when it comes to you know someone building something like this just because you have you know the good parts of the company the good things that have to have happened I mean think about how many products are sold on their platform that have made their owners millionaires you know many times over I mean these are the kinds of things that that are good obviously it's created the ability for so many sales to be made but you also have to take the bad part is that there's good and bad in a company that gets to this size and that's going to be you know the legacy that we have to reckon with here now the. The new guy comes in let's talk about their earnings you know they posted $125000000000.00 in 4th quarter sales I wanted to throw out another stat that wasn't included in the this report chuck in the 4th quarter of 2020 Amazon hired 170000 workers since Aine. I mean. Word of the day that's 2000 workers a day that you're onboarding I would hate to be the h.r. Had They're like it's just like your head spins just thinking about it obviously it's not one person doing all the hiring but you know it's just it's insane and even on the sales numbers $125000000000.00 in a quarter means there's still $1300000000.00 worth of goods every single day while the number includes There are 8 of us right and I know that's a good answer goods and service but doesn't the vast majority of their profit come from a ws as opposed to the you know selling coffee Yeah it varies from quarter to quarter but it's generally anywhere between about 40 and 60 percent of their actual profits come from Amazon Web Services it's the best accidental product that I've ever seen I mean again this was not something that was you know by an accidental What do you mean by an accidental product. So basically you know how Amazon Web Services started. I think it had to do with they needed a lot of storage capability for their own company and but they had a lot of excess when they were using it all and so they started selling it and then they realized and this guy Jassi that figured out that hey this is an underserved market and I think they control more than 30 percent of. You know that data storage market yet basically they had all these extra servers for the holiday rush that really only got used you know during the November December rush because they didn't want the site to crash and so what they said and this was about maybe 1213 years ago when they started this business is they said look we got all this extra space why don't we just lease out all this extra server capacity to other people when we're not using it because otherwise we've paid for it or you know all these computers are not doing anything with it and so it's grown from you know this you know kind of you know throwaway Oh yeah we'll just rent out our extra server space into you know a multi-billion dollar business that contributes again about 40 to 60 percent of Amazon's profits each year it's just become a monster for them and if we're being honest that engine that profit engine is what allows them to grow the retail business that operates at really low margins they don't make much money off selling your stuff on Amazon actually a ws allows them to maintain those low prices and low margins on the retail side that most of us well it does and that is also one of the criticisms towards a company. Critics will say Yeah but you're artificially depressing your prices and you're putting other companies out of business you know there's a lot of anti Amazon people out there you know that have you by the way you've been during January you hadn't shopped at Amazon have you broken down yet still have it we're $34.00 days into the year so we're almost to him percent now in 2021 and I have not bought a. Single thing on Amazon so is this your reason what is your reason for not buying on Amazon it's not that I don't like Amazon I love it it's like again I when I looked I think I'd like 86 orders last year so I was averaging more than one a week my reasoning is you know not just me a bunch of us we all spent a ton of money on Amazon and on Target and Wal-Mart last year we spent a bunch of money on big national chains yet my goal is look if we're going to have a robust economic recovery that helps our local communities we've got to make a focus make it a focus to spend money in our local communities so instead of going and buying something on Amazon I'll give an example I've been poking around one of the things that I do for my my wife we always you know exchange gifts on Valentine's Day I always give her board games That's our tradition and so instead of going and you know buying the games on Amazon because you know it's what I would normally do I said Ok I'm going to find some local stores and make sure that you know spending my money there instead of sending it to you know Amazon so I think it's just one of those little things where if I could take a little bit more time and spend a little bit more time you know figuring out how to support a local business it will help to make the recovery that we're hoping for this year little bit more robust around us all right up next Ramy talking about Google and we're also going to have a conversation about cities particularly Boston are people going to come back to the cities once the covert 19 is behind us that's next on the financial exchange as the country continues to combat the surging coronavirus equities ever made highly profitable We'll keep you informed with the latest news from Wall Street all morning long right here on the financial exchange radio network retirement's all about living life on your own terms and that might mean moving from your current home Hi this is Mike Armstrong from the Armstrong advisory group and if you're retired or nearing retirement and you're planning to relocate it's critical for you to understand all the costs associated with moving I'm talking about everything from selling your home to purchasing a new house to. Alphabet shares are up 7 percent on news that they posted a record $56000000000.00 revenue quarter up from $43000000000.00 a year ago. This company also a juggernaut Chuck and they're making a lot of their money on advertising and by the way we didn't talk about Amazon Amazon also making a ton of money in advertising yammers on is with Google it's much more of a one trick pony they're advertising units pulling in 46.2 out of the 56900000000 in revenue that they made in so obviously you know very concentrated as far as the overall amount of revenue that comes from search and advertising it's 82 percent of their revenue coming from that one area and so obviously you know this is a company when when you do talk about the company that I think has you know is in the number one spot for potential antitrust regulation and litigation that's already ongoing it's Google and I think they have some real problems based on again some of the main lines that we have seen you know well what are they doing that is is so egregious Well basically it looks like in this is according to the claim that I believe was brought by the Texas attorney general in there are I think either 9 or 12 other attorneys general that have signed on to the suit but basically it appears that they conspired with Facebook to. Effectively drive up in maintain pricing power in the online ad sales marketplace in situations where otherwise they would have been competing where Facebook and Google should have been competing against each other and so. That is what you're talking about yeah I mean it's it's pretty textbook antitrust stuff in it's not even you know something where it's like hey we're using our own market power it's strictly like you know we colluded with the only other major competitor in this space to drive ad prices up to maintain pricing power it really doesn't look good for them so how would the typical response be something that you know of besides a fine. How does a government respond to some like that with a it's not they're not at risk of being broken up I would think. I think they should be Google should be broken up to yes how would you how would you divide it well. Basically so that the search side and the advertising side should be split up because otherwise you have a huge conflict of interest where you're directing people towards potentially the properties where you're most profitable from an ad perspective like there's a huge conflict of interest there so I think that's one way you can do it even on the ad side remember back in I think it was 2007 maybe was 2008 I can't remember Google bought a company called Double Click for a couple $1000000000.00 that had a huge online advertising network they integrated it in they pretty much part of one of these complaints also shows that they they said listen we're going to build a affectively a wall inside the company so that we can't see what's going on on the doubleclick side and our ads are going to operate independently we won't even be able to see any of the data a year later they fully integrated it gives these the kinds of things where if you go back on the promises that you made to the f.t.c. And to the d.o.j. When you're making these acquisitions you should have to do the deal these are these the kinds of things where. If you lie to regulators saying No we no way we can integrate this data they're going to be 2 separate companies we can and then you do it well no no you fundamentally like the argument you made is no longer valid so you have to go back and revisit the deal these are the kinds of things that you don't want you don't want this much consolidation in the market which is you know again if you want to advertise online where do you go right now Facebook Amazon Google those the only 3 games in town that's it now and Google owns You Tube right don't they make a lot of their advertising revenue off the You Tube They make a ton there I mean that's another piece that you could spin off like with all these companies that they're very easy things where you could look at it and by the way you could make a case that this stuff would be really good for investors to like I could go and invest in you tube instead of investing in like you know Google trying to build electric you know driving cars give me You Tube 8 days out of 7 you know like I'll take that every single day of the week because that's where the money is right now so what did you make of the announcement the Google Ford announcement was out of any significance you know I don't know it's it's something where I'm. That the Google is going to be basically installed in all Ford vehicles right and they're going to use Google for cloud services I see the upside for Ford because obviously they don't have to develop any of that stuff then I guess they look at it like if you're Google in years maybe Google is looking at the same way that they will get the Android platform saying hey we're not going have one partner in autos we're going to you know try to develop multiples but like if you're trying to pick an automaker to bet on right now is it Ford Right definitely not for Google could buy Ford right. Quite readily but why would they want to be the there's better ways to lose money than buy and Ford. Want to remind everybody that in the next segment we're going to be join. Years helping families with the state in tax payment Medicaid plain and probate visit Cushing Dillon dot com. Piers but. During this segment folks we're going to be joined by Todd lecky for a discussion as to how you should own various types of real estate for instance if you're buying your 1st home how do you own it you just own it jointly with your wife do you put it in a trust let's say you're buying a vacation property on Lake Winnipesaukee How do you own it do you buy it personally with your spouse do you put it in an l.l.c. Begin to all those topics and a lot more during this segment if you have questions about how you should own real estate maybe you already own real estate you say what do I do with the stuff give us a call now it's 888-205-2263 or you can Texas at 63566 Todd lots will answer your questions regarding real estate ownership as best he can 888-205-2263 or text numbers 63566 Todd welcome to the show thanks for joining us always a pleasure Let's start off with the most basic of type of real estate in your spouse you got married you're you're buying your 1st home together what is the most common way of buying your 1st primary residence and what should people be doing with their 1st primary residence and let's assume you're dealing with a couple that's 30 years old Sure sure and you don't even need to limit it to when you're when you buy your home I think everybody listening right if you haven't done any planning the likelihood is that your house if you're married is own jointly. And now when I say jointly there's actually 2 ways of joint ownership right just pull your deed take a look at it joint if it's simply joint ownership it's going to have the husband in the wife's name on it and it's going to say something like. Joint tenants what the right of sir. Diver ship Ok And and what that means is that if if one of you both own it 5050 if one of you dies the survivor automatically gets it and it avoids probate seems helpful but doesn't help at all from an estate tax planning standpoint because then the survivor has the whole house and if there's no planning done in the Survivor dies then it's going to go to probate and wasn't sheltered to help reduce estate taxes on the 1st death so that's not a great way of owning it but it's way it's oftentimes owned another common way that it's own and especially for the primary residence and really I'm going to say only for the primary residence something called joint tenancy by the entirety Ok so what's that that's in you'll see it on there often times joint t. By easy right tenancy by the entirety Well it's still joint and so all the same rules I just discussed regarding dying avoiding probate getting it to the surviving spouse and not helping with estate tax planning it all still applies but you get one other benefit. Tenancy by the entirety means that it is protected from creditors So how does that work say I get sued and I'm the one that sued I'm I something I did wrong my and my wife is not involved in the suit the creditor cannot force me to separate the joint tenancy by the entirety to access the house as an asset for the creditor so you can't force the separation when it's joint tenancy by the entirety unless both parties sign and of course they won't that's the point of doing it so it does provide an added little bit of creditor protection again neither of these approaches are to me going to be helpful from an estate planning bloodline planning right tax get to your children approach so if you are older and all you have is a whole new live in what is the ideal method of only let's say you're 70 years old in years you're married or said go to suppose it doesn't matter what would you recommend in terms of ownership of a primary residence and you're absolutely right to mention single or married because it doesn't matter in this case when you know when you're you know when you get up there in age and you need to then look at the size of your estate and decide do I need nursing home planning or not if it's not a revokable trust would be in order if it's yes then an irrevocable trust would be in order either way owning the property in the trust is going to be far superior than the joint form of ownerships that we just talked about a minute ago it's going to avoid probate it's going to reduce estate taxes it's going to provide bloodline planning on either side and if it's irrevocable it's going to do all of that and add some nursing home protection at the same time Ok All right we'll should probably talk about you know vacation homes. Because that's another type of real estate that people own and maybe even commercial property perhaps we'll do that in the next segment when we start taking calls from our listeners and and folks I just want to remind you if you have real estate if you all real estate maybe you're thinking about buying real estate I was talking to a fellow the other day was thinking about buying an apartment building a small apartment building he want to know how do I buy it like what do I do with it do I just buy it personally do I buy it in a corporation of some sort those are the types of questions that are going to be welcome in the next segment our phone number is 888-205-2263 Todd lots will answer your questions when we return the number get called out because it's going to be busy 888-205-2263. We're having a conversation this morning with Todd loves. The most efficient ways for you to own the real estate whether your primary residence whether it's a big cation home or an investment property and we're to take questions from you as to how best to facilitate that real estate transaction Our phone number here in the studio is 882052263 phones right away and talk to our friend Robert who's in Wester and has a question for Todd let's see Good morning Robert welcome to the show what is your question sir. Good morning. So the tax implications are none now let me explain it only I'm trying to question your neutral Are you married. And again if if we're going to set up an l.l.c. You would do how many apartments do you have. 3 have 3 houses so you can either set up a holding company with a couple of sub l.l.c. S. Or you and with only 3 you're kind of on the bubble you probably don't need the holding company yet you could probably just set up either 3 Elsie's or you can group them and maybe put like 2 in one and one in another based on value right you don't want to put too much value in any one l.l.c. So for other people listening the benefit of doing it is from a creditor perspective that if a lawsuit happens because they slipped and fell on your property if its own way Robert owns it now they would sue Robert directly personally and they could go after every single asset that he and his wife half because it's owned by them if it's owned by them personally. And if you put it in an l.l.c. Then they can only the creditor can only sue the company not the shareholders so now you take away the ability to get all the other personal assets thereby reducing your creditor exposure so wonderful way of owning it I strongly suggest it for all rental properties and I still tell you to keep your insurance out there that's why you need it right don't get rid of your umbrella insurance you keep that to settle the claim right the creditors are going to go after that claim from a tax perspective that they are neutral 2 things one if it's 2 members meaning let's say Robert you and your wife own it $5050.00 or you put the shares in your the shares of the l.l.c. And your family trusts $5050.00 that it tends to be 5 tax return is filed no taxes are due at the l.l.c. Level everything flows to your personal return if on the other hand you have a joint revokable trust and you put it all in one joint revokable trust now you have what is known as a single member l.l.c. And a single member l.l.c. Doesn't even file a tax return so you continue to file everything on your 1065 it is on your 1040 excuse me it is disregarded. For income tax purposes so absolutely no administrative headache for single member l.l.c. All right thanks very much for your call Robert Karen is in hole and has a question for Tom thanks for patiently holding Karen what is your question please I write I don't invest. And. I'm going to be closed. And I'm wondering if. You actually. Should however long I would have to avoid capital gains that when I sell my well it great question a lot of people think of this so here's what's happened. Folks just laid out for you she's rented the property for a number of years I don't know how many and she wants to move in there later and then sell it and of course to make it your primary residence you can do that you have to move in live there for at least 2 of the last 5 years in order to qualify for the capital gains exclusion which she's referring to is a 250000 dollars exclusion for single people a 500000 dollars exclusion for married couples if you own and used the property as your primary residence for 2 of the last 5 years problem can you do it yes in this case however whatever you paid for the property how let's say you paid 200000 for it and you depreciated the basis by renting it by 100000 over the years so now you've lost 100000 dollars of basis due to depreciation even though she moves in and sells the property as her primary residence that again associated with the depreciation will still be taxed as ordinary income and not available to be sheltered so that's only 100000 the right. Right I mean about yeah you still in my example you still could get a good benefit from doing it but definitely check with your with your accountant on that one it's a very run the numbers yeah if you run the numbers on something like that Todd if there's been much appreciation and all she's still going to have a tremendous benefit Yeah I still think you can have a benefit I just don't want you to lose sight of the potential risks that are in risk but the potential negative side of it gotcha gotcha folks I want to remind you all that Todd lots He joins us every Wednesday but he creates a guide for every month in the guide that he created for the month of February is all about the different types of real estate ownership and addresses you know situations like Karen's in with the 2nd of the investment property in addresses the questions that Robert had for us regarding owning 3 apartment buildings in Worcester it addresses how to own the vacation property or even your primary residence if you'd like to get a copy of Todd's guide for the month of February regarding real estate give him a call the phone number is toll free it's 866-848-5699 Now I know some of you are a little impatient and you want the guide right now we can go to his Web site it's legal exchange Show dot com and you can print it right off of Todd's website or you can just read it on the Web site again call Todd's lots he's office to get his guide regarding the different types of real estate ownership the phone number is 866-848-5699 Michael is in Falmouth Michael welcome to the show thanks for patiently holding what is your question please sir. Hello. I have a primary residence. And I have a camp and a house Me Ok. And I'm wondering. So my kid. And I'm 65. What would you do with the house property of me so 1st and are you married Yes Ok so you know 1st and foremost you want to think about all your assets not just these 2 but focusing on these 2 you know we would probably want to set up some kind of a trust for you again whether it's revokable or irrevocably will depend on the type of object of as you have in the estate planning world and then I would put them in now a couple of things by putting these properties into. Into the trust one you're going to avoid probate now we say that it sounds like well that's not a big deal but it is in your case for sure because you go to you go to probate in 2 states if you didn't do it you have to probate in Maine and mass and so so this is really helpful for people who have property in multiple states so we throw the properties in the trust and that's going to help us avoid probate keep you in control and provide that bloodline planned your family as you said to your kids how and when you want them to get it and likely reduce or eliminate your estate tax liability at a bare minimum Now having said that is the home in Maine. And the camp in Maine is that rented to you generate income from it. No that you know no I did rent the house for the low if b. And b. But if we did not appreciate it while you're in any event even if you didn't you're going to be charged appreciation the government doesn't let you not depreciate so please take it going forward because you're going to get penalize for it anyway but in any event if you're not renting it you don't need the l.l.c. So much idea for that I was going to tie in the l.l.c. Idea what that is well so otherwise yeah I would I would think about the type of you know look at your overall estate plan size and determine what kind of tax liability you might have and determine whether you want to protect assets from the nursing home and and I would say set up your estate plan put put those houses in one of the 2 types of trusts that I suggested more good advice from our friend Todd lots at Cushing and Dolan don't forget to call Todd's office and receive the guide it's all about the different types of real estate ownership the phone number you call to receive the guide is 866-848-5699 Todd thanks again. The blue state exit continues Plus Governor Rhonda Santas plans to take on big tank was there a b.l.m. Crime wave last year and space x. Is accused of hiring citizens 1st shoulder to shoulder anything to get their shields. This is 16 show Sex in December former n.y.p.d. Challenges are now. You may have heard a Florida man at some point this may be a phrase that you've come across and used to mean a guy in flip flops with a mullet who led cops on a high speed car chase with an alligator strap to the roof of his Oldsmobile but now it's anyone flaying the tyranny of poorly run blue states in search of freedom gun rights and 0 percent state income tax our country was set up so that states as you know would be laboratories of our democracy that states would be able to try different policies and people could move depending on what they wanted what they liked and how it was all going well it's amazing to me that you have. Such a clear such a clear winner here with the state of Florida as well as some other red states that are doing quite well a lot of Californians leaving for for example you had a big surge of people to Montana which is actually not that red as a state but it is majority Republican and this is going on at a time when we've really been reliant on state governments in ways that we haven't seen in a very long time because of the covert pandemic the state's authority to take action on health matters has really made a big difference in our lives we had been especially conservatives focused on the tyranny of the federal government for a very long time but as we see state governments can be either protectors of your rights and liberties or they can trample on them even more and the states that have had the most control over day to day life during the pandemic the ones that have taken the most extreme measures and that have favored the leftist authoritarian point of view are big losers in all of this and Governor on the sands is down in Florida a a beacon dare I say this the Sunshine State is a beacon of light for the rest of the country for what is possible for what could have been in New York in California in Illinois in many places and he is running with it people have been asking me what is the future of the g.o.p. And I keep saying nobody knows which I understand is an easy answer to a very complicated question but we still have this imp this impeachment trial of Donald Trump coming up. Which will definitively one way or the other tell us whether he can run for office again and even if he were to be barred from from holding office in the future which I don't think will happen his children will likely run for office one or several of them so the Trump name the Trump brand will continue on but there are others that you are seeing now who I think are going to be increasingly looked to for leadership in the g.o.p. And Gov Ron decentest is at the top of that list right now he hasn't been involved in all the election dispute and all that craziness that happened after November he was busy running his state and running it quite well and I've experienced some of this I've made a couple of trips now down to Florida to see what it's like to be in a place where people are largely living their lives despite the pandemic and now dissent is going even a few steps further my saying that he's going to take actions that let's be honest should have been taken by Republicans when they had a majority in the House and the Senate and the Trump presidency but they didn't big tax control its financial contributions to politicians and just its overall influence on our entire system is hard to overstate and the g.o.p. Has a lot of answers a lot of answers that are required at this point as to why they didn't do more why didn't they take action when they could have we heard a lot of talk about Section 230 nothing was done well to Santas is doing something he is pointing out 1st of all this is this is necessary for everybody to understand everyone across the country needs to know that big check is now openly at war with conservative ideas and speech they're not going to ban everybody there. Go to band selectively to chill the speech of other people you don't have to kick everybody off you just kick off a few prominent people here and there for the wrong thing and everyone else gets the message and they fall in line the Santas spoke earlier this week about this here's what he said play 13 at the turn of the 21st century online technology represented tools to liberate Americans from Alliance on distrusted legacy media outlets a social media proliferated over the past decade citizens could directly connect with large numbers of people and could cut out corporate media outlets entirely over the years however these platforms have changed from neutral platforms that provided Americans with the freedom to speak to enforcers of preferred narratives consequently these platforms to play to the increasingly decisive role in elections and negatively impacted Americans who dissent from Orthodoxy favored by the big tech cartel not allowed to break from it not allowed to say that you disagree with the do the dominant narrative or else they punish you and for people who think of this only affects and I believe this has been one of the challenges on the right because we're just less we're less active on a lot of these platforms are our people so to speak I mean Republican voters are far outnumbered by Democrats on platforms like Twitter and Instagram although Instagram is catching up a bit Facebook is where you were you would still find a lot of conservatives but as you know Facebook is now as bad an offender as any of the others. But this affects you no matter what your businesses you can run a flower shop and you say the wrong thing about covert policy and all of a sudden you're not able you know your account is shut down well if you need that account to promote what you're what your store does you could be put out of business pretty quickly and if you say the wrong thing you could also end up getting a pile on from social media and they'll never stop that right they won't they won't try to prevent people from having their lives ruined by the by the social media mob so there's a lot of consequences even for folks in there in their day to day from this no matter who you are no matter what you do for a living and this is deeply on America and we need to understand that's the way we should speak about this it is deeply un-American for companies to suppress political speech when they exist and they created themselves I mean they were built they made they made promises are around being free exchange of ideas platforms so that they essentially lied to us when this was all a bait and switch they said oh no as long as you don't do anything illegal as long as you're not doing something that we could all agree is agree just death threats putting you know illegal content online things like that as long as you're doing that will let you share your ideas now then they changed because the little Wolk children who run these companies now because even though they're not necessarily the ones at the top of the org chart they're so vehement in their ideas I mean they're so absolutely scornful of people with different points of view that they'll just torch anyone who gets in their way including people in their own company who try to be a little more adult people try to be a little bit more fair minded about all of us to Santas telling everybody that cancellation can happen to anyone and this needs to stop play 14. 100 Biden story was true Ok we now know was true and the typical corporate media outlets they just chose to ignore it obviously they wanted to be Trump they had a they had a view on the election they didn't want to give it any air so we rely on social media to go around that not let corporate legacy media outlets control the discourse and let us speak so you had the New York Post to run it and you couldn't get any traction you couldn't get any reach on it because big tech put their thumb on the scale so that was true what they said at the time oh it was it was it's a conspiracy or it's based on on on hacked information are you kidding me you're trying to tell me if there was hacked information that could damage me you guys wouldn't print it give me a break you can whiz on my leg but don't tell me it's raining you guys would print it every single day if you could and big tech would allow it to proliferate every single day 2024 seventh's so it's not being done in a principled basis and it's not there's there's threats on me and that only gets taken down if law enforcement goes and tells tells them to do it otherwise it just stays up there not moderating any of that so they haven't done a good job in it the thumbs always on the scale in writing one direction and we just need to bring We need to bring some protection for folks I really really worry when you have a business owner that may rely on some of these tools to do small business if they engage in wrong think or they go to the wrong political event then all of a sudden they can act in concert and just take take you off you need to have protection against that. And he's not just speaking about this isn't just a rhetorical thing he's going to push for action in that at the state level in Florida to protect people States you know Facebook and these other companies they're operating in Florida and so he wants the state legislature to start creating protections in that state for your data against political discrimination I mean ultimately what we really have to do is wherever we can create categories or add a category of political discrimination to anti-discrimination law and I know that some people said no no but that's not the libertarian view is that we should people private businesses should be able to do yeah but they can't and that's never going to change so we can either create protections for more people so that we have actually some hope of being able to win this a win this political and cultural fight over the long term of free speech or we can just continue to suffer and get crushed so dissent is saying that there are going to start doing things in Florida he wants the legislature the state legislature to go along with this the great protections for people from from big tech this is the beginning of what needs to happen people ask me how do we deal with this or what are the next steps we need to sue them there needs to be financial pain or at least the likely. Likely prospect of financial pain that has to happen there have to be consequences for the kinds of censorship for the overreach that we're seeing or else they'll keep just doing it there is this idea and I've been telling you this from the very beginning oh don't worry once the election stuff is over once Joe Biden's president they're going to let people go back to normal no they're not. Why would they they got away with it they were able to exercise these companies in concert with the Democrats they're able to team up and exercise power now their guy Joe Biden's in office you think they're going to back off now you think that they really view what they did as anything other than a huge win No that's why you've got to have Republicans in places where they do have power and control to wield it in defense of liberty past 70 when liberty is under assault is not a virtue and a lot of conservatives I think have adopted this position of well just let the market speak or well just let things play out and we'll see. While we are seeing because that had been largely the approach and it is a disaster. And it hurts individuals it hurts people it ruins their livelihoods it destroys their business models I mean they kicked parlor off the Internet and people were cheering this on circles as if somehow this it achieved something meanwhile Facebook was a was more of a place where there was a conspiracy hatched about the Capitol Hill riot but it didn't matter because they were still trying to just take off parlor because parlor won't play by the actual rules meaning whatever Democrats want those are the only real rules the principle is the Democrats have power and they will crush you if you don't do what they want that's the only principle they abide by dissenters knows this and he's had enough of it played 12. There's just going to be a big fight no legislative session hopefully we'll be able to get a lot of support I think most folks do want protections for their privacy and their data I think most folks one protections from being the platform and it's not just being banned from Twitter or something as we've seen these that these companies can act they can collude they can deny you your small business of payment processing you build and use e-mail and text so what you go to a rally that they don't like or you can gauge in rank thing and all of a sudden your flower business is decapitated for a month because they take action that is what is happening in this country the left is a totalitarian political ideology in America right now they don't care that you are suffering they don't care that you don't have freedom they advocate for more of this they demand more of this so we can either continue to lose continue to be on our back the back of our heels and hope that somehow they just get tired of this and stop or we can find ways to fight back we can find ways to make these organizations and eventually of course these Democrat politicians but for now it would be helpful just to make the companies that are doing the bidding of the far left in America make them stop because there's a consequence there's a cost to what they're doing right now you know the only cost is they when we lose and conservatives say they're going to retreat from public life that's not the answer you even see whose weather and traffic station News Radio 968. 96 now. There's there's a part of me that's happy that they'll be making I mean there you had Senator Josh Ali part of the is glad they'll make this argument because it's the right one I mean I think they're correct and this is an abuse but they also because they're being forced to go to this trial I hope the people that are speaking in favor of Trump's position on this will will explain how this is all just so disruptive pointless and vindictive now it's pointless if you're a rational person who wants what's best for the country if you're a Democrat who still furious about all the terrible things that happened with Trump terrible things that happened for 4 years under Trump's presidency then you view this as payback it's also an attempt for the Senate Democrats and for the Democrat Party overall to enshrine a narrative of the insurrection and the insurrection is going to be used to bludgeon conservatives and Republicans for years and years if not decades to come if we allow the narrative to be seized in this way make no mistake about it this is one of the reasons among many that I was so angry on the day of January 6th as soon as it happened I made no. This is the you know how I feel if you listen to the show I was I was honestly enraged because I realized on every level how counterproductive how stupid how damaging it is and how much it hurts the cause of conservatism and hurts the cause of Trump and Maga and America 1st. Now McGrath's are leveraging that this is now their primary tool of ideological suppression or their primary argument for it is what happened on January 6th and now they want to talk more about it and get into the Senate record that Trump was part of an insurrection he tried to create a coup we have to fight that on the merits not just as a perceived matter the Democrats are. Well certainly watching reactions in the country watching the potential for violence is something that we will do closely from the White House across the country no matter what prompts it and that's something we will certainly keep an eye on. You know I think in this case as you know there have been dozens and dozens of court cases that have been. The president of the United States is sitting in the Oval Office engaging in governing the country and obviously we have moved forward even more than we were prior to the United duration and proceeding in delivering on what the American people decided on in November. I mean Jen Psaki is really the most eloquent communicator that they could find for this role really. You know it's the Democrats George Bush. Shocking that this is the best choice that they could make but anyway there must be things that we don't really know about this or maybe we do . The Trump team arguing about election fraud would be a bad idea. I hope they don't do it I know there's been some shake up among the lawyers who were going to be defending the president at this impeachment trial you remember the last impeachment trial by the way no you don't I'm sure I mean remember it happened right but does anyone remember the arguments and this n.b.c. Was they were just cos they were all aflutter with the amazing speeches given by these brilliant legal fears that were just going on and on and people like Adam Schiff about the Constitution and all Republican all this stuff give a crap about the constitution or a public place there authoritarians their own except individual agency and human liberty they want to be in control they want to tell you what to do you do this because I said so or I'll send big scary people with guns to make you do it that's really the Democrat mentality. And here we are. So I hope that the president's team doesn't argue about the election because this is really not all timidly about election fraud this is all about they're pushing all of this around the notion of Trump inciting and insurrection and whether they're whether there was fraud or not the insurrection aspect of it is the main line of attack and that's going to be the main line of attack against all the rest of us there's no way they're going to litigate in court the election I'm just telling you this if you don't believe me or you're frustrated hearing this circle back with me in a couple weeks and see if I'm right they're not going to be the present anything in court that settles the issue one way or another about election fraud allegations and it will only play into the Democrats' hands because right now it's there were lies the lies led to the insurrection and now they're still lying about it if they were to present that know what needs to happen is they should argue to the unconstitutionality of this which I think is is clear and also the way that this is being exploited in exaggerated why are Democrats so set on bringing this prosecution in the Senate of the former president because they're trying to get as much on the record as possible trying to create as much noise as they can around the Republican the Trump insurrection they just want this to be in big bold letters and all the all the newspapers and then all the history books and any time someone comes along and says Hey I'm a conservative populist and I have a vision for the future and I'm going to fight against these leftist authoritarians and I want to make America a a free country again anyone who says anything like that is going to be shouted down whether he's advocating for the insurrection. What you know that's right they're intentionally painting with the broadest possible brush their smearing people they're talking about moderate terrorists and I don't even get it as you had another former and former CIA guy writing in I don't even know where I was writing one of the big I think was awash in post about how we need to treat the Trump insurrection like the jihadist insurgency global insurgency of the early 2000 so I want to be very clear as I've been saying to you they're comparing people. Running around inside the capital taking selfies with people who. Run drive planes full of civilians into buildings full of civilians killing thousands of people decapitate people on videos who mutilate murder. Rape and and pillage on levels that are truly. Truly horrific beyond words they're comparing those things and saying to the same is basically the same Yeah as Tucker calls him a man the guy was running around with the furry hat and everything inside the Capitol just like Joe here and I mean same same level risk same level of danger is like is like Bin Ladin with a different you know different head covering that's really what that these Democrats this is insane I mean the people that are arguing this are shameful and disgusting and I'm sure they know Trump supporters and have friends and neighbors who voted for Trump they'd never say this stuff to their faces because they're all sock little cowards one thing that is really a. A common almost defining characteristic of the contemporary liberal in America is a lot of their political beliefs are always that they're willing to share them to friendly audience they're willing to say it and when they've got a mob around them that agrees with but one on one all of a sudden they become very wimpy they really don't actually want to have to defend these ideas so they want to call everybody who supports trump a moderate terrorist or imply at least that we're all market terrorists and I say that's your face though. They are a bunch of there's a lot of cowardice there's a lot of cowardice on the left and I think it's a part of the political culture in a way that we can all see you're aware of it they don't they don't take on pot they don't take unpopular stands in order to defend people that they know are good in the right no they just they go along with the mob all the time it's not everybody obviously but it's very very common place and I think it's almost celebrated and there's a particularly the day to mail is the standard you know all these guys who kind of remind you of pajama boy from the Obama era remember pajama boy during Obamacare remind you of pajama boy and they will say these things about how they need to put down the insurrection and use the f.b.i. Use the military against all these people but they'll never actually walk up to your face on the street and say you're an insurrection it's not by themselves only if they've got a 1000 of their buddies all you know chanting about b.l.m. Ranty for whatever then and then they get tough. Any bit Carthy as you know is a guy I've had on the show many times I've known Andy for many years I like him and he's a very smart guy. He he is very upset with drop this there are people who are who are on our team so to speak and who are good faith patriotic Americans who are really angry about what happened with Trump and I I can understand their point of view. But here's what Andy's saying about the Trump impeachment and what he sees it as play 11. This really is not a legal determination it's a political judgment and whether or not the impeachment can properly go forward is a question constitutionally that is left exclusively to the Senate which is a political body and they've obviously voted to proceed so you know I think you can make very strong legal points on both sides I'm more persuaded by the side that says that the impeachment power was always understood to apply to people who are out of office as well as in office but it's a debatable point I think it's beside the point it's a legal it's a political determination so it's in ultimately comes down to whether or not the senators you know whether or not the senators want to convict the President for insurrection it will be you know even if we argue even if the Trump Trump team argues that there is an on constitutionality to this probably not going to carry the argument so that's why it's also important to dig in on the claim that Trump was inciting insurrection is not true it is a lie it is a smear and to call what happened on January 6th an insurrection in and of itself. Is dishonest so that's how we have to fight against this narrative we'll see who Trump as making the case in about a week or so. You Haven's news weather and traffic station muse Radio 960. Laws. Notice the way that he he tries to tell you what you see what you observe that does that's not real but doesn't count don't don't pay attention to your lying eyes and ears listen and listen to the Joe Biden talking point here know what he's doing is in fact creating laws or he's taking actions that have the force of law and he's doing it because he doesn't like what was done before or he wants things to change and how they are now but he's basically right laws that's what these executive orders are and the the sleight of hand here where it's all of a sudden just getting rid of the bad policies of the past well that's just a judgment call that's not a way of explaining how what Biden is doing here isn't in some way overreach isn't the current president of United States acting like he well doing exactly what he said he wasn't going to do back in October your member that we actually probably find a clip for you would say you can't you can't rule by executive order they had this whole Biden presence remember I've said this to you so many times Republicans run and tell you what they what they want to do. And then they try to keep their promises but they have some people who fall away or there's you know intra party strongly for whatever Democrats for president run pretending to be something entirely different and then they get in office and it's well we're not doing that anymore now that we fooled anough people in Arizona Georgia Pennsylvania into thinking that you know we care about unions really or that we care about the rule of law or whatever baby once we've done that head fake then we get to really go to work and push the left wing policies that we claimed during the election we had no interest in who we would never do out of Google blue collar Joe He's not going to are not going to sell you out for foreign labor he's not going to do that no union guy you can trust blue collar Joe No you can't the whole thing is a fraud job arms boom whatever whatever he has had to be when he had to be it to get the most votes he could where he needed to that is Joe Biden's entire political career no one really knows what this guy believes stands for if I ask you what issues Joe Biden most passionate about if you knew his record you might say making sure that credit card companies can charge use your eous rates and and that it's almost impossible to discharge credit card debt in bankruptcy if I that that's what Joe Biden as a Delaware senator was really passionate about right I mean if I ask you what is your Biden all about it the other day you'll hear different things to different people maybe they'll say foreign policy I think Jen Psaki said his 1st passion is foreign policy amazing because Joe Biden has been reliably wrong on foreign policy for 40 years just how bad judgment his judgment of foreign policy is awful but his judgment on these executive orders is also terrible not a surprise Representative Andy big of Arizona said this about Biden's specifically his immigration executive orders play for the president but this is. Executive orders this time focusing on. What he's doing these basically reinstating the catch and release program with regard to the program so people can come here says we're going to be released into the and. He's also sensibly trying to roll. Their shoes in the country some butter somewhere outside the United States those children. Placed in homes in. The country illegally. So he's trying to. Test for Cisco the current legal case these types of things creates it is for people to do. What does is increase the power and strength of the. Smoking cartels the drug cartels the. Situations in the border. Where these things are. He's right on saying it's all true 1st off this is what we're going through the same thing all over again deja vu all over again Yogi Berra where you had people showing up at the border claiming asylum and there were folks like me who did research in one of the border and figured out from border patrol from the cases from the numbers that were actually coming up every day that they were lying essentially that people were showing up at the border they had been coached and they were claiming that they faced violence in their home country. But that was just a pass a credible fear stay a fear standard and then they would show up in court when it was time to show up and explain really why they needed asylum so they were exploiting the good faith and goodwill of the American people at the border and there was all this fighting in. And the Trump presidency from the Democrats who are saying that's not true and we're a nation of immigrants and all this stuff they were wrong it was a lie because when they remain in Mexico program all of a sudden oh you could still go to court to put to plead you know your asylum case in court as a Central American for example but you got to wait in Mexico which means you don't get to just go into the American cheerier disappear and never show up in court all and then all of a sudden the newest all of a sudden asylum cases dropped off a cliff Gee I wonder why Democrats were lying they they were lying until we could it was obvious what was going on but until we had all the data to prove what was going on they were just going to continue to perpetuate the lie which is what they did and now that we have all the data they're just going to print they're just acting like oh well it's different now so let's let's go back to the previous policy where people who show up at the claim Oh I have a credible fear and then they get a say in the country and this is an end run of the immigration system and all the legal immigrants you know. Ask them about this ask them how they feel about people showing up crossing the country illegally because they're often doing illegal surrender after the crossed the border and then they find themselves in the country without any restraint they can go anywhere they want to whatever they want and they never show up again but Democrats acting like we didn't learn the lessons we learn because they don't care because they want to de facto open. Might actually change its recommendation that we need to double mask now that that we actually might be heading and I say this is somebody who's been making fun of this for months what kind of knowing that it's coming and now it's now it's real just like I thought just like you thought it would be yeah yeah I think you could at the forefront of it I mean he definitely was more like that's funny that's never going to happen. But I you were predicting it earlier. I don't know I think. I think it had. It's just that's where I resign should be I keep telling people that if the if the new theory is anything that could even theoretically reduce even one covert case can be a government mandate they should limit how many times. We're getting so crazy and Carol here is not my problem idea yeah I know I wore it said the stuff I allow though it's a well we should have gone goals because you know virus and coming through your eyes they've actually brought that up briefly in the past time the so-called experts. What is what is society I worry that there are a lot of people who you know the people that are so afraid that they can't think straight they're the people that just don't want to me that they were wrong so that I'm going to change their opinions but now I'm also thinking maybe there are a lot of people who kind of like this new normal of like limited human contact order your food others you know essential workers make and bring your food to you you sit on calls I think that's part of it absolutely I call them people the pajama clowns and I meant that I was. To Australia and his whole thing is Australia did this Australia did this right you know America should have done like Australia does and I say well hold on a 2nd and therefore what we're really should've happened here is that we should have had the kind of lock downs that Australia did but let me start with the few things were 120th the population we have 30 times the population density of Australia in the United States believe it or not I mean it's Australia is not a densely populated place at all and you know you add all these things up but then also we've never been weak and people keep saying lockdown works lockdown works and I keep saying yeah but we don't even really we do we get all the pain and none of the upside because as you say there are still people there are central workers all over the place in New York City subway is still running their. They were getting infected they're going out there doing these things but we shut down Sean businesses and some opportunities for people and it's just all it's just all made up as we go along absolutely and you know the other thing is and as soon as I come out of lockdown it comes back it's not like I screamed at her. At the quarantine hotel because I. Am us are planning this mock down your country definitely And not only will any visitors whatsoever I don't know any concerns only you're going to have. Spend also go back down. Or never come out of our house get hurt a virus but somebody's house so that's where it can spread and it's just it's unrealistic I feel like nothing scientific based and while it's all completely what you feel and our elected officials reflect that I mean nobody can govern O'Connell and you know Gavin Newsome the 2 biggest like make decisions based on their own volition kind of peters and you're absolutely right because what's crazy is people like yeah I'm been surprised by I've been able to predict what the bureaucrats and what the so-called medical establishment because it's always just you're seeing just one little you know the tip of the iceberg with the actual medical establishment or so many doctor the talk to horrify now school closures who say that masks were Yeah maybe it helps if it's one of you know 10 other things you're doing and you're doing it perfectly and you're doing it all the time you know it's like there's so much out there that never gets talked about from the medical community too but the part of this Carol that I haven't been a that I had not been able to anticipate was that I see this year in New York how many people are like no this is Ok Actually I think we continue I think we continue like this is long as we have to I'm not I'm not that bothered by this lockdown I'm . So getting paid people bring me my food and you know I don't like the outdoors that much anyway I live in New York that that's really what there's a lot of people like that yeah absolutely and it's terrifying I don't know. And. I wish they would be riots were made in open schools and I was really sure of this when they opened only private schools but not public schools but no one cares it's crazy to me and I just I don't I don't know how to get people that they have stopped educating your children like baby we should care about this but nobody does and I don't know I could look at it when I see protest in Europe like Europe is out to make us that's me and yet here we are yeah I mean if you've seen even what's going on in the Netherlands they've had really intense really serious anti lock down protests going on there it's happened in some others in other countries as well but I am I am shocked I mean it's one of the things that I've still been trying to ram my mind around I figured at some point you know my fellow New Yorkers I know I'm out voted by the you know 89 to one my Democrat but I thought they'd say Ok guys the science is in scrolls absolutely should be open but no lot of Democrats are like hey I'm going to watch Imus n.b.c. And listen to talking points about how the teachers' unions are just representing the interests of their constituents and their safety it's like no they're actually holding people's families hold people's children hostage so they can sit at home and I mean I'm so sick of people saying all the teachers who were most teachers are in their twenty's and thirty's in the public school system Ok the or the majority of them are not are not even close to being at risk and then some get vaccinated and refuse to go back and teach after they're vaccinated right it's a travesty I don't know I mean it's like Michael Steele going on how to stay home like yeah well. I don't have a private. And our kids are going to be fine the rest of the kids aren't and it does go it's going to be just insurmountable I don't know what's going to happen but I don't know how he didn't go to school 3. Kids who went to school every day and had a system and it's and those people don't live far away you could have kept increasing school kids. And we're going to get some miles it's going to be clear it's going to take on a on a path to success and another thing for me and this is really where. The things that I saw that are happening are the things that I knew that would be bad but it's the absence of the corrective the absence of the of the backlash to those things right like what I've been and he you know there's I've been saying they're going to say double masking and they're going to say and 95 masks to I mean saying that since the summer Thomas a just wait that's where when they don't when this doesn't work the way they promised us it would that'll be this the goalpost shift and we're in the middle of that right now I figured Ok well I saw it but at least people would say well now I realize this guy Foushee is a moron and like this is just all about control and he's making it up as you know people like oh you're right that the way that they'll just all of a sudden trauma diamond say Ok even if even if what you know what should be clear now is clear to people they don't react the way I thought they would and or of the way they thought a lot of people would and now I mean with the school issue and with the state issue even look at you know I know your Florida you know you're a New Yorker but you're down in Florida the meantime I've been on a Florida a few times as well decentest straight up says now in press conference lockdowns failed right and the data supports him but somehow we can't get the country to focus on this for a 2nd say hold on we ran the experiment here and Florida won right yeah there's no sanity around that you know you pointed out New Yorkers are very liberal Look I'm a lifelong New Yorker your life where not waiting for our city server to write. But that's just not gonna happen but I like it it's broken me how much I've seen New Yorkers not be fayne during this process and it's really it's changed my perception of my city and not my Ebookers of the other residents because I saw something that I can't unsee which is that they completely lost track of sanity and they engaged in the theories about kooks like Florida where the science embers are clear he just couldn't wrap their minds are on it it's really tough for me to imagine a future in sure because of it I love New York I really never wanted anyone else to do research it for the retired but I don't know that I can see what I saw goes live or speak to Carole Markowitz She's a columnist for The New York Post writing a lot about lockdowns particularly the school closures issue that's been going on a Carol I want to ask you about the Governor Cuomo. On the one hand I'm running around given Rhonda sent his high fives whenever I can because you know he's the results because of result because of what's actually happened in his state who their tax rate their tax revenues of $300000000.00 they got that independent Machir . I mean while you look at the they're the Cuomo side of the equation why is it that all of a sudden you know is it because they'd rather have Laetitia James as the governor of New York you know she came out with this report of the nursing homes it feels a little bit like the left has started the Democrats have started to turn on Cuomo is it because they just can't probably lies any more you think there's something else working here what Chast I do think they can prop up the line the more I think the facts and I don't think they get around it for too much longer they do still try to clear here you know even with that report I haven't seen any sort of outrage imagine not report came out of a covert anticipate. That would just be wrong while news x. . Or c.n.n. Covered but today make it an alternate story did I miss the b.c.g. That of course not but it would have if he was a Republican so but I think that you know you and I keep coming back to you Phil enjoys a very high level of support that's very hard to get around so when he does crazy things like announces you know 3 or 4 days ago that restaurants will open on February 14th you know weeks into the future nobody's saying wait a minute what changes between now and then where council members who stand up for their own district say these restaurants in my district are closing they have closed they don't need 2 more weeks closure just open up right now you know where c.n.n. Is on the anybody if they use policies don't make any sense and they're just not they're not around when they're you know as you say what one part of this that's also been really really troubling to me and it's why for the 1st time in my life I really do consider permanently changing changing right in sooner and leave meaning leaving the city or the state and I've been here really almost my entire life and had to go for work a couple times elsewhere but it's because I had always felt like you know New York was the example of a place where you there were some things where politics were more or less either put aside or you could say became truly bipartisan making a cleaner safer better city that people all over the world wanted to visit that businesses were thriving in that people wanted to come to that you know rents were skyrocketing that part of it you know was not great for us but you know it was a bit of of of the supply and demand of people wanting to be here wanting to be in the city and understanding that Ok You know we don't always have to have the you know the the fights about religious freedom and all those things with our with our fellow New Yorkers we can put that aside for a 2nd and say we all agree we want safe streets clean streets good schools with a pandemic it's turned into Yeah I know we're suffering and this is idiotic and this and this. And the city is deteriorating but we're still going to support our Democrat you know leadership Yeah and that's where I feel like Ok we're now going to draw a line right that's absolutely right and it's been heading sort of in that direction but the kind of the just brought it to you know to the front I think so much of what's been happening in the last years has been light but the thing is it's very easy to ignore our state. When times are good but I'm going to take money from the rich to the poor like he. Wants but when he when times are bad I think all of that incompetence. And easy to be a bad leader when exert going well and that's what this leadership in New York has had for a while but now things aren't at the camps Well I think also California I was consider ahead of New York on this on this timeline of how long it takes to rule in a place that is gifted with a lot of wealth and talent and history and just you know California was like was like the was the American dream in the eighty's when you and I grew up were rough were close the same age all the movies were set and you know everybody wanted to be a kid growing up in like you know Pasadena or Santa Monica or you know whatever that was like added the height of America and now people are fleeing California for Nevada for for Colorado for Idaho for Texas and now people are fleeing You know New York which is the greatest city in the world they're fleeing for Florida North Carolina and all and I mean this is where this is it takes time for a Cuomo a new some of the Blasio to ruin a place but they've had some time Carol and they had it set up for them with with the pandemic but yeah absolutely I'm It's crazy that people like me and you if you think that they're not doing anything about it I just I don't understand how they just accept that they're seeing this migration out of the state and not doing anything yeah I'd say that they don't well I got. Push for more federal income tax and redistribute the wealth. Everybody Carol. But recently. The. Most incredible. Friends with the coal miners and all the stuff that he says and all the nonsense stories that Joe Biden's always telling people you know that as much as he wants at the end of a democrat party is a far left progressive entity now that would be unrecognizable the Democrats 50 years ago even 30. Years ago and here we are with executive orders that are going to have really negative and they're going to hurt people hurting people hurting people because they believe in all the scary climate change this shield to the big sky is going to come down on Austin. So there are absurd quasi religious belief about the end of the world coming because of c o 2 in the air which is just bonkers. Is making them feel justified in taking actions that are going to make people money able to pay their bills going to kick people out of their homes shutter businesses and there's real pain there's real misery that comes from this real problems that this creates they just don't care price they're willing to pay this is this is like a cult belief in the Democrat the Democrats always said the Trump was a cult and all this stuff. No You see we move on now and conservatives were looking to look into the future and try to figure out we're going to do here for Democrats it's you cannot you cannot deviate you cannot do anything other than nod your head bend the knee and agree with the climate change call it is absolutely mandatory. You know I'm excited about this Bruce Morton even know the Buck Rogers stuff I don't even know about it but you know I'm excited because his name is Buck Exactly and we need we need a new person so when I say my name is Buck this what happens to me in life I say someone says Excuse me sir Starbucks and ice and they say you know they say what's your name and I say Oh My Name Is My name is Buck they say Ok Bob happens all the time and I'm like this book really sound that much like Bob But anyway Ok Bob and they write you know they're about to read Bob you know it's buck and then they'll And then the staff will look at me and say like Uncle Buck. That needs to change Buck Rogers is the Space Age superhero and that's the association we want I mean hopefully one day it'll be like Buck Sexton the radio host but for right now it's got to get away from Uncle Buck I mean you grab them call you Bob or Uncle Buck and the other thing with your name rhymes with thanks Mark thanks appreciate that. Producer Mark and any news from from Mark land this week just you know we were on do you have you Bader picked for the Super Bowl yet have I asked you you haven't I don't think I have yet who is going to win I'm leaning towards the cheaps But you know what I wouldn't be shocked if the Buccaneers won and this is going to be a great game Tom Brady. Is an American icon that's for sure but this my home is characters also apparently I just I think he's on right of way to being an American icon and if he's not already if he his career goes as expected you know he keeps up this pace he'll be the best quarterback of all time that's pretty astonishing b.o.b. Good game which I guess what now let's talk some Super Bowl dishes what what are the what are the go to in the Marcos hold for Super Bowl what do you have to have my wife always makes for any big game buffalo chicken dip. Which is heaven on earth have you ever had anything like it sounds good what it is you basically shred up some chicken breasts put some cream cheese hot sauce and I think there's a few other ingredients other cheeses mix it up put it in the oven for an hour or so comes up or just some chips on the side whatever else you want. You know it's amazing how many how many dishes there are that I've eaten in the past and then when I figure out how you make them you know the secret ingredient is cream cheese . Cheese makes almost anything taste better like any recipe where they put there's cream cheese you're like I'll eat that you know you don't say and yet there's almost nothing I won't eat with cream cheese on it exactly I mean people eat any cream cheese in sushi for heaven's sakes right to Philadelphia. It's my rule yeah cream cheese and anything makes it better so that's that's one of those things where at any recipe I see that I go Ok this will this will be kind of a good one I will try to do barbecue in the in the sexton family for all purposes so anything for a barbecue barbecue ribs chick in brisket obviously we know a big fan of brisket and I'm hoping I'm going to cook a really beautiful steak for myself this weekend at some point too that's something I've got all the you know the one who while the game's going on cooking a steak everyone else is watching the game and then you show up at a halftime show yeah of course well who's doing the halftime the weekend. Right tell me this yes and he doesn't spell his name like an actual weekend right I don't think so I'm not very familiar with it's like w k n d or something like that it's definitely. Not I'm not into the contemporary music these days I think that music is just keeps getting worse every year and I know that's a grumpy get off my lawn kind of thing to say but I think music is just in this constant state of decline in this country these days you know there's very few new artists that I like there's artists that have been around a long time and still make new music that I like but there's nobody that's you know the last couple years when was the last time you heard about a new band you're like these guys are awesome I want to go download all are songs I can't think of one day are but I know you'll forever for me I mean I can't even you know like 10 or 15 years at this point anyway are I'd buck in Mark's grown corner we're going to move on here to. To what the folks have to say in the roll call please member going to Buck Sexton dot com sign up for our newsletter that we're going to be putting out you've got to give us e-mails we're going to more e-mails we get the more newsletters we can put out so we do it let's get to it Bry in a book and mark my wife and I went to Florida for the New Year's holiday for Michigan so we can enjoy some freedom for a change I couldn't agree with you more I'm moving to Florida we left there already looking for jobs and a house. Luckily both have careers we can get a job anywhere it's nice they have a governor in a government that does its best to protect its citizens from the federal government just one favor I ask stop talking up Florida like you'll afford a house town their shields I feel a Patriots Brime people in Tommy that the look should do don't you know. Only we only want Republicans going to do you think listening to the show Real conservatives right I mean that So there are some Democrats and welcome to Democrat Democrat the buck you're always welcome I think there's not that many of you but you know people are going to move they are moved out of floor of the ones that are leaving these blue states openly they all understand. Why they're leaving and why they would want that to be replicated down in Florida so. I'm very bullish very bullish on Florida I own property in Florida through my friends it done for your state so you know I'm I'm all about it I think Florida's. Florida is the future it really is and we want to be a conservative utopia to the Greek and I know there's a lot of Democrats in Florida you know probably $4951.00 or something now Republican Democrat but as long as it stays stays in there in the red column you can have I mean I had all this sort of stuff you can own a gun Piers remark you know my brothers down there tell me that the gun laws are basically oh you want to go get a concealed carry permit great you can and it's got reciprocity in like a few dozen states in New York if you want to get a gun permit they're like you're suspicious the police you're like what you mean you want to you want to conceal carry permit we're not going to give you that why do you need that that's what they say here in Florida like of course your to American Go get yourself a gun. It's amazing Have you ever been shooting work I have not I've never shot a gun I don't think I've ever ever held a gun. Buddy I mean before and raised in New York if the floor no no that's it the people can't even imagine that here I mean if you have a gun in New York chances are you're either a cop or a criminal is very few there's very little in between Very few people in New York City I mean there are some but very few have illegal firearm here. Mark well think shooting at some point but yeah absolutely what once we get sounds of alarm Yeah there are those places coming Vegas to these places where you can go and pay to shoot a machine gun and it seems all cool and stuff but that's not it's much more fun to go and actually you know shoot a pistol that you own or go with a friend and you know shoot shoot an a r something and really work on your marksmanship and your basic firearm skills because those machine gun places they charge you a ton of money and they basically hold the gun while you hold it like your little kid and they let you just press the trigger and it goes boom above them for a 2nd and then it cost you like $400.00 So those are not I had to take some some clients once when I was out or you know people for business purposes when I was in Vegas we went to one of these places and it's an experience but I was like I don't want to fire 10 rounds with the Squad Automatic Weapon like I want to have the squad automatic weapon for the afternoon with you know hundreds of rounds and you know really and that was not that was not how it went down so we'll take we'll take you shooting at some point it's a good experience an experience everybody should have you know and you also appreciate but I will say this once you've actually shot a gun Mark and you watch movies and you see these guys who are like do a backflip and then 3 rolls on the ground and with their left hand turn their pistol sideways and they shoot a guy they shoot the bad guy in the forehead from you know 200 yards away from a moving helicopter you're going to be like I don't think that's how it really. Is the very hard actually that's one of the big critiques always of $24.00 is how does Jack Bauer never run out of ammo and how does he shoot at those weird angles all the time yeah yeah yeah that's I'm sure I haven't seen 24 but I'm sure that's all very true so it's something I mean it's very entertaining but I'm sure for somebody like you you would just point out the inaccuracy is. So long out of a. World the CIA and everything that I feel like now I'm as I watch this almost like I watch it like a civilian now my dad whatever but there was a time when I was like That's not how that would like that's not the way we would write that report up a bubbly and everything else like I was that guy that's actually what I do any time there's like a show that involves t.v. News like behind the scenes in the control room like well that's not how it's supposed to go no tough like that you know a lot of a lot of at least back in the day a lot of a lot of profanity in the actual control room for news shows go and I think that was just back in the day still so that's one thing people need to get used to are more read a book a producer Mark love you guys and I love your embrace of the flip flops around the clock buck I'm a coastal California girl so flips are year round here even in the rain I laughter producer Mark's reluctant to be that laid back though he's seriously East Coast but I'm told he would produce a bark on the Birkenstocks just say no Buck step away from the Birkenstocks flip flops no prob pajama pants maybe Birkenstocks no way and with socks on Dear God no. So she's she's agreeing with you on the Birkenstocks but now and now I just want to be defiant and rock the rock the Burkes you know I mean. I mean I could see if you grew your hair out a lot more and let the beard go didn't trim it for a while then were Birkenstocks I could see it now you would look. Homeless and like you just want to. Live Grateful Dead concert. But oh yeah. Jerry Garcia right he's there he's not alive anymore there's no he's not yeah Shish Yeah here's another one now what if you know oh yeah people love that sigh I never understood the appeal of fish but people said it was they did. Because I got to be an optimist sometimes we're figure it all out figure it out together. Katie I've only recently started listening to you I really appreciate your high road approach and how you tie events in new stories to the bigger picture from what I've heard so far your discussions are really about who is right so fleeting emotional and subjective but what is right more rational discussion and approach. Well thank you Katie for your astute observations about the show and we certainly aspire to that try to try to make this as much about look this is always I mean all all news is a form of brain engagement that is also entertainment right when learning is entertaining and anything where you're getting new information entertains a part of your brain but we try to make this as sad substantive as I possibly can and get to the why and the what matters as as quickly as I can every day and as much as I can every day Well also you know making fun of Bernie Sanders accent and do another silly thing sometimes so we got a lot going on but I'm glad you appreciate the show and thank you very much for listening. Brian I am interested in doing that and so let me think about how we could bring more information about that to the forefront because this is that's a major geo political event that I think is seeming increasingly increasingly likely.
