David . The city of milwaukee is opposed to photo id for voting. Officials have said it people in high poverty areas from voting. The citys head election official says thats exactly what happened on tuesday. The first major election in wisconsin that ids were required. I think thousands just in the city of milwaukee. In milwaukee. 41thousand fewer people voted this election compared to 2012. The citys election chief. Neil albrecht. Blames the republicanbacked voter id law for surpressing some of those votes. Votes. What we do know were not able to vote in the election because of the law. Governor scott walker doesnt agree. Its just a load of crap. Walker blames turnout numbers on people not being excited for the president ial ca. Candidates. Particularly for Hillary Clinton in some parts of milwaukee. That is not unlike other parts of the country. Including states that dont have voter id. So that is just somebody making something up without looking at the statistics. But albrecht says he does have the statistics. Like more than 30 percent declines in parts of among black people. Compared to single digit turnout declines near downtown. And bay view. So it really begs the question then. This population that has historically been disenfranchised from voting. Have they again been disenfranchised by some of these most recent changes to election law . Albrechtsays the state is ignoring the data around the disproportionate dropoff in higher poverty areas of the city. Education about new voting laws in those areas. He also admits a lack of motivation surrounding the candidates likely did partially contribute to lower turnout. The suspected driver was arrested earlier this week. Cbs 58s julie parise reports on how police were able to find the 30year old man. 3 according to the police yarbrought, says she was about to cross the street here on w leon terrace with her daughter, when they saw that car driving toward them. The car stopped. Yarbrought says her daughter then broke away and ran into the street thats when she was hit. The mother says the car stopped momentarily but then drove off. Yarbrought described the beige 4 door porsche suv and its driver to police. Surveillance footage from a nearby foodtown supermarket caught it driving by the street near the time of the crash. According to the search warrant, a person who lives not far from the told police he saw a person matching the description exiting the porsche and abandoning it nearby before getting into the passenger did of a different car and driving.
