A train tore off the front of his car and nearby boone county deputies rushed to the scene. They pulled him out seconds before a second train hit the vehicle. Right here on maher road , buddy, you got a car smashed on these train tracks. Tracks. Smashed was the right word for tim mcculloughs car. The engine was torn off. He was trapped. Boone county sheriffs lieutenant dean pattison and Deputy Mike Moore were there in three minutes. Minutes. It was exciting. Im glad everybody turned out ok. Ok. We were just the right place, right time. Time. The veteran officers quickly ran up to the car to see how badly mccullough was hurt. Hurt. He said that his chest was bothering him, his back was bothering him. About that time dispatch advised that we had another train rolling northbound. That train was headed right for them and couldnt be stopped. They had to get mccullough out fast. Fast. I asked him his name and he said, tim. I said, tim, we got to get you out. Mike and i pulled him from the car and ran him up and put him in the back of the truck of the fellow that called it in initially. Initially. It was just very hectic there was a lot going on its just kind of hard to remember everything, honestly and to put everything in order. Order. Looking back on what took place, lieutenant pattison and deputy moore dont believe they are heroes at all. All. I just like to think that anybody else that was in that situation whether it was a Police Officer or a citizen would have done the same thing. Thing. Thats why we got into it. Its a fun job. When everything clicks and everything comes together for a happy ending lieutenant pattison and deputy moore have talked with mccullough on the phone he told them he wants to meet them and shake their hands. Thats because rice pled guilty monday to shooting at covington officer Michael Lusardi and k9 ernie in april. Hed been on the run after stabbing his own mother three days earlier.
