Fans pay tribute by singing his greatest hits on the street. Some of the loudest voices could be heard from princes hometown of minneapolis outside the venue where purple rain was filmed. He put minneapolis on the map. I think its great were celebrating his life and not in sorrow. It was here in minneapolis where prince honed his eclectic sound. The legendary singer and song writer won seven grammys and sold more than 100 million record during his 40year career, something music critic john breme says he accomplished his outfits, the videos he did everything. No one else in the history of music has done everything as well at such a high level as he did. Purple rain, purple rain. Leading up to his death the reclusive star had embarked oen a strip down piano and microphone tour. The 57yearold spent his final moments at his paisley park estate where mourners continue to celebrate his life and mourn his sudden passing. A driver safe from a burning car in new jersey. Cbs2s Tracee Carrasco has the exclusive story. A monday Evening Shift at cafe mozart was anything but routine for anthony d ispirito. I heard a call that there was an unconscious male in the parking lot. A volunteer with the Community Emergency response spotted smoke in the parking lot. Moments later the blue 2003saab i was able to do it just in time before a lot of fuel leaked out and the flames got worse, so it was seconds to spare. When they first pulled him out of the car he was more unconscious and then he started to gain it a little bit. He pulled the man to safety. First responders arrived to put out the flames. The driver may have fallen asleep with his foot on the gas. Im glad that i was around and that i was able to save had his life. Mondays incident here isnt the first time nicholas lemanoff has been in the right place at the right time. A month ago he helped rescue another man trapped inside his vehicle. Tractortrailer right in front of us sideswiped a vehicle and the door was locked and the guy was having chest pains or something inside and he wasnt able to open the door and i had a crowbar in the car and i was able to unlatch the door. His volunteer work in the community recently earned him citizen of the year. Now he can add hero to his leis of honors. In parsippany new jersey, the parents of six children with autism are suing a Long Island School district for 10 million. They claim lisa whitesman abused their children including hitting and restraining them. One couple claimed whitesman and her aide sprayed their 14 yearold son with air freshener saying this is how we get rid of smelly children. They say their son became too frightened to go to school. If he was in the car and he thought he was going that way he would try to turn the car off. Whitesman is on paid leave and denies the allegations. The Nassau County d. A. Is now investigating. Baker says since then police have been harassing him including an alleged beating after a dispute over parking. They beat on me just like the first two officers did and just being just feeling like i was about to take my last breath. Detectives anglo papina and Robert Carbone are charged with assaulting baker. The 72yearold democrat wrote i failed the people of new york, no question about it. Because of me the government has been ridiculed. From 10 to 2 broadway will be closed to vehicles in flat iron and union square between 17th and 23rd streets. Government is sounding the alarm over a dangerous new Jersey Railroad crossing with more than a dozen crashes including one fatality since 2016. The Railroad Crossing on midland avenue and elmwood park has been named among the 15 worst in the country. 800,000 in safety upgrades last year have made a difference at the sharply angled crossing. The improvements include computerized stoplights, warning flashers. Its better for the motorists because they dont get stuck on the tracks. The light will come on, the Warning Signals will come on before the trains trains are remotely close to the area. Is it ever enough, things are always going to happen. The state d. O. T. Hopes the upgrades will eventually get the crossing off the most dangerous list. The sounding of an alarm over fire hydrants sounds in the city. People are growing concerned. What it means if theres a fire. Open and exposed, according to a local state senator tony avella fire hydrants all over queens are missing their caps putting residents in danger. Its almost like a hardy boy mystery, the case of the missing fire hydrant caps. Hes been on the case since november sending letters to the department of Environmental Protection and the fdny that have gone unanswered. Puts the Queens Community in danger because an open hydrant can be clogged so when the firemen go to wrench it open the water can be delayed coming out. The firefighters have a 2 or 3 minute delay in hooking up the hose, somebody could die. The dep says it responds to any reports to 311 of missing fire hydrant caps and fdny inspects every fire hydrant in the city and replaces any missing cap. Senator avella says hes seen this all over the neighborhood and weve counted at least five. Thats not settling well with people who live here. I dont want to die in a fire. If its something thats going to delay from, you know, turning off the fire or Something Like that, you know,. Some theorize thieves are selling these caps for scrap metal. The city has to function better. We all know, but if people are stealing it its really shame. Avella suggests attaching caps with a metal chain. Neighbors say that would be a in case of a fire, you know, the cap supposed to be on the fire hydrant. Anybody could come along and down the street. The dep says the best way to report a hydrant problem is calling 311 . The fdny and dep says the fire hydrants positive Economic News for atlantic city.
