Heres what the scene looked like just a short time ago as police were talking with witnesses and scouring this area for evidence. They say this all unfolded about 2 00 this morning. The 21yearold woman was here near the intersection of broadway and west 28th street. She was apparently walking by a group that was arguing when she heard shots fired. She quickly ran into a nearby hotel and thats when she realized she had been grazed on the leg. And now police spent a few hours out here searching for evidence, trying to look for shell casings as they piece this investigation together again. The act funds medical coverage for 9 11 First Responders but it expired last month. And now a new proposition to renew it would put a cap on how much money goes into the program and would limit it to five years. The firefighters say the cap needs to go and the bill needs to be renewed permanantly. I went through chemo and radiation and rehab and im back and hopefully the cancer is gone but its important because that coverage was covered by the bill. I dont know how long im going to be around. Heres what it looked like a short time ago when police were out here scouring this area for evidence. They say it unfolded about 2 00 this morning. A 21 woman was near the west 28th street when she was walking by a group that was arguing and she heard the shots fired. She ran into a hotel on broadway and thats when she realized she had been grazed in the leg by a bullet. And investigators were out here soon after talking with people around the scene as the time, searching for evidence and looking for shell casings. But again at this hour, they are looking for four men described as being in their 20s, taking off from the scene in a black suv. The goal is to get congress to renew the James Zadroga act. It funds medical coverage for nine level First Responders but a proposition would put a limit on how much money goes into the act as well as a limit on how long it will last just five years. But i went through chemo and radiation and i went through rehab and im back and hopefully the cancer is gone but its important because that medical coverage was covered by the zadroga bill. And now an exclusive. A woman pushed on the subway tracks in bronx talks about the terrifying ordeal. She says she saw a suspicious man on the platform at the station friday night. He came with two hands and pushed me. And i said, oh, my god. And the train was in three minutes. So lucky thing, the spanish guy pulled me up in time. If he didnt pull me up in time, i probably would have been gone. She was not seriously hurt. Police arrested a 39yearold. He was evaluated at the hospital. He is being charged with attemped murder and reckless endangerment. And what doctors are calling a medical milestone. A face transplant for a volunteer firefighter who was burned. Reporter it was a routine fire, if there is such a thing, in mississippi back in september 2001. Thats when the volunteer firefighter Patrick Hardison suffered third degree burns all over. He found himself in new york 14 years later waiting for the most extensive face transplant day trying to get this done. So hopefully its not much longer. Reporter the doctor would lead the team of more than 100 medical professionals at the nyu Medical Center. But finding a donor that matched patricks general appearance, blood type and other factors was not easy. He was a year on the wait list and he was the only person on the wait list. He wasnt with others and it still took a year. Reporter the donor was a 26 yearold artist and cycling enthusiast who died after a bike accident in brooklyn. Surprisingly the goals were medical more than cosmetic. The biggest improvement was in the eyelids and of course removal of the scar for normal facial animation. Reporter the 26hour operation began august 14th in adjoining operating rooms at nyu. The donor tissue included not just the face but much of the neck skin and facial bones and most importantly blood vessels and bones had to be saved and reconnected. Here patrick is waiting for his children to see him for the first time. Excited to see them.
