Reporter dana, the good news is, everyone made it out alive. Hangar 14 was supposed to be demolished tomorrow. Nine workers were inside this afternoon doing prep work when the hangar came down in a cloud of dust and smoke. We just heard a big boom. Everybody came outside started screaming a building collapsed. Reporter the Port Authority says nine demolition workers were at the unused hangar 14, which is being dismantled to make way for aircraft parking. Suddenly, the building collapsed with the section nearest the runway falling completely to the ground, four workers were injured. Two were seriously injured enough to be transported to university hospital. Saw searchandrescue, police started evacuating the area blocking off the streets. Reporter everyone accounted for, thanks in part to it the Port Authority first responders, the aircraft rescue and Firefighting Team and the regional urban search andrescue team. Police say the chain of events began when the suspect robbed somebody at the Clinton Manor hotel in union. He has been accused of carjacking a car at the target in nearby springfield. The police call went in and they were chasing 22 and he lost control of the car and crash into the building. At least three other cars got into crashes because of that original chase. And one of them a gray jeep was being driven by Union County Prosecutor grace park. She was not injured. The suspect was arrested after crashing the car into the halloween store. It was a little exciting and nervous because i have been at school for five years now and now its, like, its like a whole nother year like difference coming here. Until its repaired, everyone and everything including the school sign has been relocated to the former Holy Family School shuttered some 6 years ago. It is an incredible space now. They dont have computers. So how would they have known to bring their kids here . We sent out almost Weekly Communications to parents via email and direct connect calls. And our information is only as good as whats in our database. So if a parents changes an email a if a parent changes an email address or phone number if its not updated with the school then they wont receive that communication. In addition to cleaning, painting, plumbing and electrical work, crews even managed to build brandnew walls to create new work spaces for teachers and students. I give them a lot of credit. We have to save it. Its the last living thing at this site. Reporter they saved it. They reproduced it, too. Every, single sapling you see here is a baby of the survivor tree grown from its seeds and nurtured by students in the Agriculture Program at john bound high school. Whats been great for the kids is this story of 9 11 will continue generation after generation watching the trees. Reporter now 85 of the ornamental pear trees are ready to put down roots. From here, the trees will travel to 28 different volunteer Fire Departments across long island where they will breathe new life into 9 11 memorials.
