Sources familiar with the investigation tell nbc news the older inmate, richard matt quote, charmed prison worker, Joyce Mitchell. And now the wall street journal is reporting that the prison investigated mitchell for an alleged relationship with the other inmate david west as well. She thought it was love. The relationship between convicted killer matt and Joyce Mitchell. But according to the wall street journal prison officials suspected she also had a relationship with david sweat. An investigation conducted in the last 12 months didnt find enough evidence to discipline mitchell butt paper reports that sweat was moved out of her tailor shop. A former guard told nbc news that some prisoners would target the, quote, weakest workers. Civilian staffers like Joyce Mitchell were not considered as quote, hard core as the guards. The inmates even have a name for it. Grooming. Prisoners are masters of manipulation. Reporter ted is a former guard at sing sing. Theyre trying to establish a little ounce of flirtation. Its because of the power differential. They have everything to gain she has everything to lose. Reporter in most cases, sources familiar with clinton correctional say the gain was generally small. Cigarettes food newspapers. But matt and sweat pushed mitchell for much more. Sources close to the investigation tell nbc News Mitchell was supposed to be the getaway driver. But on the day of the escape the 51yearold didnt show up. Instead, checking herself into a hospital with a panic attack. So far, mitchell hasnt been charged, but sources close to the investigation tell us shes been talking a lot, and information that could potentially help with the search. If reports were true she was supposed to be the get away driver but got cold feet will that help her situation with the prosecutors . It depends. If there is any act of conspiracy on her part she is culpable. The fact she didnt go through with it it doesnt matter. She committed some act in the course of conspiracy. The fact she pulled back and didnt call police thats not going to help her at all. There are reports about her alleged relationships with one, maybe both of these inmates. This is the second person who Officials Say was aware of plans by a boston man, usaama rahim, to carry out attacks with knives. Rahim was shot last week by Boston Police and fbi agents who sought to question him. Overnight, the fbi arrested nicholas rafin ski 24 of rhode island. Police searched his home last week and also took him in for questioning. Officials say he and another man met on a road island beach almost two weeks ago, and discussed a plan by rahim to behead a new york woman, Pamela Gellar who argued a draw mohamed contest last week in texas. She is the head of the local chapter of the naacp, and also teaches Africana Studies at Eastern Washington university. She wants to recreate reality. She wants to just invent it herself. Matter what prison in our nation veterans Corrections Officers say they constantly have to remain vigilant because inmates are like conmen constantly trying to exploit whatever weakness they can find. It was inevitable. The escape has prompted prison authorities across the country, including here at Iowa State Penitentiary to reexamine the way things are done. We recently had a Restricted Movement lockdown due to an escape attempt at this institution. Reporter do you think thats because they were encouraged by what they heard in new york . I dont know for sure. It certainly well could be. Reporter as in the movies like the green mile. Do you understand . Yes. I think i can. Reporter Corrections Officers daily interactions with inmates are a balancing act. Share too much information and an inmate smells vulnerability. I know youve got something going on marriage probably on the rocks, anything i can do. Reporter theyre trying to connect. Yes. Reporter and when they make that connection. Establish that rapport and play on that rapport. Reporter use it as your weakness and their position of power. Set the hook if you will. He has turned his life around and helps troubled teens. Believe me its easy to get into a relationship and get hooked up with a guard. Reporter here in iowa at another Prison Inmates are kept busy in workshop. The reasoning, less time to plan escapes. And if a tool goes missing . If a tool goes missing, nobody goes back to their cell. Everybody is searched the place is searched shook down until its found. Reporter here at the iowa state prison they allowed us in because theyre proud of the way they run this penitentiary. It was first opened in 1839. That was seven years before iowa was even a state. Investigators are also looking into Joyce Mitchell the 51yearold prison insider who may have been working with the suspects the inmates to break out of prison. Meanwhile, the prison worker suspected of playing a role in the escape may have had personal relationships with both of the missing murderers. But for the heading family that goal took on new meaning when they decided to tackle the trail as a team carrying their father 7. 5 miles down on the adventure of a lifetime. There are trails in life that lead to a clear destination. For the heading family of Columbus Ohio the destination on this trail through grand canyon was always the journey. I didnt hesitate. I said im ready to go. Reporter getting bob heading there wouldnt be easy. We were bringing my paralyzed grandpa down the grand canyon. Reporter paralyzed from the waist down after a fall nearly ten years ago. That ladder shifted. I lost my balance, and i knew right then i was paralyzed, because i couldnt feel my legs. Reporter bob heading faced his new reality with signature grace and determination. Dad was always the type when somebody told him he couldnt do something, by golly, he was going to do it. Reporter including the grueling 7. 5 mile trail to the bottom of grand canyon. Not long before his accident bob conquered the same hike with a friend. This time he would make his way down with the help of his three sons and eight grandsons. It just seemed like a way for us as a family to give back to dad. The trip that would take nearly twice as long. When a 10yearold got hooked you could go. It made it easier for the other two guys pulling at the time. I say, okay when youre in the middle of little towns like i am in washington louisiana, you may not have a supermarket close enough that is really great. But you always have a dollar store, no matter where you are in the united states. Thats true. So this is my goal. Im going to give you five ingredients, 5 and you can literally make it in five minutes. Five, five, five. So the first thing, you want to make sure you make the raman noodles, frozen vegetables. I like frozen vegetables frozen gets a bad rap. Frozen you get the strong flavors in there, all the nutrients are optimum. So as long as you read the back of the bag and make sure that its the only ingredient. Okay. Thats it. Put some garlic over here. I have sesame oil. You want to get the vegetables for me . Put them in. There we go. And youre going to cook for a minute. Smells good so far. And youre going to just kind of do this so it defrosts a little. Once its defrosted, put some shrimp. Youre okay with frozen shrimp. Again, you would be surprised. I found in a dollar store wild caught frozen shrimp. Thats right. Which is really good. Youre going to basically just cook this until it defrosts. And then once you have that you want to add some soy sauce, cook a little more for a second. Until the flavors get into the shrimp and the vegetables the soy sauce, okay . And youre going to end up with this right here. All right. Were going to add the noodles. Ready to put those in . And you have not put the spice pack in is that right . No because it would be way too much sodium if we add that and we lose the asian flavor we want. And over here we put some soy sauce again and some more sesame oil. So how much money are we talking about in that wok right there . This is 5. Its actually its less than that because the ramen noodles, the package comes with four. So its actually less than 5. And your kids love it. Everybody loves it. You can see, about five people or so with it. So you make it look fancy. Matthew is into this, everybody is digging it . A good dish for the whole family. Easy and simple. It looks beautiful. Now the dessert. What im cooking here anybody can do it. If you have never cooked before you can do this. So basically, this is jello right . You have the jello. Get a glass. Okay. Youre going to pour your jello in halfway through it. And youre going to get one of those cupcake, you know trays you have. Right. And youre going to set it like this. Tilt your cup. A fancy way of doing it. And put your strawberries in there. Thats brilliant. How does it taste downstairs guys . My kids would take this down. You had me at ramen. Do i get approved . Who doesnt like ramen . And in the refrigerator until the jello gets set, and then you use whipped cream from the can. It doesnt matter. Make it look fancy. Delicious. German prosecutors say there is evidence the co pilot who crashed a Germanwings Flight also explored alternate means of suicide. The crash killed all 150 people on board. New Research Found post menopausal women who are overweight or obese have an increased risk of invasive Breast Cancer. But he develops the most meaningful relationship of his life. My 14yearold daughter liked it. I loved it. I love the fact that it shows how awkward we are around people with cancer that we dont know what to do but we want to be there for them. But to be an awkward teenager to begin with. I love how much they took the time to let a moment be. This movie is in no rush to tell this story. My daughter appreciated the authenticity of the portrayal of the teens. Shes usually eye rolling or whatever. She really appreciated it. Great job, the actors are wonderful. And the kid who plays earl r. J. He got the job, he was homeless two weeks before they started the movie and it changed his whole family life. Bring lots of tissues. But youll laugh a lot, too.
