This one was different, because it seems that a group of religious worshipers was targeted. Minutes after another deadly terror attacks and the injured are treated where they fell. Rammed by a van at high speed. Basically drove on the pavement, coming straight towards all of the muslims. As hes coming to them, he hit all of them. Women and men on the floor. People bleeding. There was screaming. You know, total anarchy. Reporter the attacker app r appeaappea appears to have targeted people leaving prayers at a mosque. He crashed his van and tried to escape but was caught by the crowd. We got him out of the car. Before we got out of the car, he was fighting with us, spitting on us. And he bites. Reporter some witnesses say he was shouting threats at muslims. He said, i did it and i want to kill some muslims. Reporter those he tried to kill handed him over to police. He was led away to the police van. And he stuck out his hand to gesture to mock people. Reporter one man died at the scene. Police arent sure this was the result of an attack. They are examining the van. This is being treated as a terror attack. Reporter another deliberate horror. The mayor trying to reassure londoners. There will be a Police Presence out and around places of worship. Reporter muslims who played for the victims had just prayed in the mosque for dead of last weeks fire. This one, deliberate terrorism. People here are angry and scared. The momentum of the attacks is growing. Theres a danger of tit for tat attacks over, retaliation. European authorities have been worried about that. A selfradicalization on both sides that can escalate the vie len lens. The use of vans and terrorize individuals. The ideology doesnt matter. Its terror. And authorities have to worry about the escalation of violence. This is the third time in as many months that weve come on and talked about a van attack in london. Theres people wondering what do you do to protect against a lowtech attacks when all you have is a man with a van . This is difficult to stop in an open society where you have foot traffic and vehicle traffic. You have to create layers of security around events, where people are congregating, barriers. And restricting areas where you have lots of pedestrians just to walkways. But its a difficult thing to stop, especially in congested areas, as in london, as in new york.
