Craig, well talk to you in a bit. And dylan dreyer here as well on this busy saturday morning. Another busy news morning. Right to our top story President Trump in saudi arabia this morning. We actually have a live picture of the president with saudi leaders right now. He is trying to hit the reset button on his troubled presidency, but thats not going to be easy with a series of bombshell reports dropping while on air force one, flying overseas. Nbcs chief White House Correspondent Hallie Jackson traveling with the president inside saudi arabia with more. Hallie, good morning. Reporter hi, jeff. Good morning to you, and at this moment, President Trump is at that ceremony with the royal saudi court. We are told he didnt get much sleep on a flight on air force one landing in riyadh but got a spectacular greeting. Seven jets streaking through the sky with kim salman joining the president in his limo on his way back to the hotel. Despite the warm welcome here in saudi arabia, it was a different vibe back in washington where the president was facing new questions about why he fired fbi director james comey with new word now that comey himself will testify publicly in front of the senate. The president may be in saudi arabia today, bumt he cannot escape the shadow of russia. President trump touching down in saudi arabia this morning very happy to see you. Reporter williamed with coffee with the king, but even thousands of miles from the white house, his recent controversies have followed him here. A new explosive report from the New York Times says the president told russian officials in the Oval Office Last week the fbi director hed just fired was crazy, a real nut job, and that dismissing james comey relieved great pressure on the president , because of the fbis russia investigation. The report fueling suspicion the president fired comey because of that investigation. The white house not disputing the account but saying, by grandstanding and politicizing the investigation into russias actions, james comey created unnecessary pressure on our ability to engage and negotiate with russia. Comey set to testify publicly after memorial day on capitol hill, but now an intensifying spotlight on the white house. Government sources familiar with the latest Development Say the actions of a Current White House official, who wasnt named, are now under investigation. Thats important, because theres been a lot of talk of former Trump Associates or advisors, but now were told that the investigation actually reaches into the white house. Reporter secretary of state rex tillerson, attorney general Jeff Sessions and adviser and soninlaw Jared Kushner have already acknowledged contact with russian officials. The white house says as the president has stated before, a thorough investigation will confirm no collusion between the campaign and any foreign entity. These domestic crises coming as the president begin as critical overseas trip, the first of his presidency. Diplomatic land mines at every step. Today hell meet with key middle eastern leaders before a speech tomorrow aimed at the arab world with a message unite against islamic extremism. Then its israel, the vatican, brussels and sicily. Five countries, nine days. No room for error. It doesnt take him away from the drama at home and accomplishing any easier when he travels, either. Reporter President Trump is joined on this trip by his wife melania and daughter ivanka. Neither of whom wore head scarves as all local women here do. Remember, that is not unusual. Most western visitors dont cover their hair but its drawn attention since 2015. Donald trump treated saudis were insulted when Michelle Obama didnt wear a scarf. And bring in former Foreign Policy adviser to senator rand paul now an nbc analyst and time analyst and also, now an msnbc justice and security analyst. Good morning to you both. Thanks for having us. Matt, start with you. Your reaction to the Washington Post story. A Senior Member of Trumps White House team is under criminal investigation. If true what does that mean and have investigators found evidence of wrongdoing . It means they found evidence that makes him suspicious of wrongdoing by the senior adviser. What we can read from this is that the underlying investigation whether there were links between Trump Campaign associates, people close to the president , and the russian government, and whether with those links there was coordination to steal the election nap is accelerating dramatically and not only reaching into people from the campaign, but now getting close to people in the white house. What that means Going Forward is that there will be people from the white house likely subpoenaed to come of it before a grand jury, asked to turn over emails and other documents and extremely disruptive to the functioning of the white house and the senior staff. I want to talk about this New York Times bombshell. It landed as the pret pred wsid flying on air force one. P that the president told the russians james comey was a nut job. Poor judgment or more significant . Absolutely staggering that you have the president of the United States insulting one of his former top officials to his russian counterparts, but eveningen, you know, another its incredible to me the amount ofleaks comes from the white house, unprecedented and show the discontent within his own administration and within career officials. We should mention the white house does not deny the overall theme of that . Their defense, that President Trump building a defense that President Trump needed to fire jim comey to pursue Foreign Policy goals. This makes me think white house lawyers are studying up on impeach thement there is credence to that just because trying to lay a broader argument. Followup on that, and matt, what jeff was saying. The white house didnt deny the underlying allegations of either report but with the response said, theyre engaging in negotiations, tactics, and once again saying that National Security is a risk with all of these leaks and we all have to admit there was a massive amount of leaks coming out of d. C. Does this concern you . Is it a valid point . Leaks are always concerns. If you look at the leaks, people are in the white house and in the administration who are concerned about potential wrongdoing by the president. What this leak gave us, another piece of evidence that is the most significant question in politics now. Did the President Trump of the United States obstruct justice, firing jim comey and urging him to quash the Russian Investigation. People that leaked this were concerned it would get in the hands of investigators and in the hands of the american public. Good discussion. The story continues to spin. Well continue to follow it. We actually had a computer expert send that to you and this is what hackers used to link in. We could have had full access to your computer. We opened it. We did. I try to be so careful with that stuff. Used to pressing buttons. Use the phones all the time and casually click it without thinking. Ive told you a million times not to open that stuff. You got it now . Yes. Well done, dad. Well done. Reporter okay. Those are my parents. But surely my crack team of investigative producers will know better. Lets see. Jim is back at it, and this time hes upping the stakes. Not only sending a link, but also asking for additional personal information. Address, phone number and Social Security number. The email looks like its from nbc offering a phone upgrade, but if my producers look closely and i hope they do, they should notice the address isnt a real nbc account. This is what criminals do. Send out an email that looks like it comes from the company you work for only its not really them. Hoping they dont fall for this. Theyre smart. Yes, but theyre going to fall for it. Reporter sure enough, jim confirms my three producers not only clicked the link but enter all of their personal information. I call a team meeting to get them all together. Hi. How are you . Here to talk about your phone upgrades. Phone upgrades . Did you get an email. I did, yeah. Katherine, did you . Yes. Very excited about it. That was from a a hacker. Really . From jim stickley. So were not getting new iphones . You are not getting new iphones. Havent i taught you anything . You have produced stories about checking email degreeses not opening attachments and putting in information and all three of you did. Im ashamed. Im pretty sure i put in my social. Annika . There is not enough time in the day to list all the accolades that Michael Phelps amassed over his career. 28 olympic medals in total. 23 of them gold. Now hes using his celebrity status for a great cause. The Michael Phelps foundation is teaming up with the federal governments drowning prevent campaign. Its called pool safely. Here to tell us about it. Michael, good morning to you good morning. How are you guys . Doing great. I wanted to certainly talk to you about your foundation and what youre doing to keep our kids safe. Yeah. But you know i have to take a quick second to talk to you about this instagram post. That picture, you know it so well. With you and let me zoom into your eyeballs to get your answer here. You captioned it 2020 with a question mark. Will we see you perhaps in 2020 . Announcements you want to make exclusive on weekend today . Unless you know some i dont. I put it yesterday just for fun. I dont see myself going back. Im very happy with everything, how we are, how i finished. As of now, i dont see it. I dont see myself coming back. We just had a little fun around the pool, and that was the first time ive been in the water probably a month or so. Just very relaxing. Am i hearing an opening there . Did you give yourself an opening, Michael Phelps . I mean, i guess i learned from before. I said id never come back. So, you know i dont want everyone to say, oh, well you said this. You said that. Thats true. Honestly, i dont see myself coming back. I did 3,000 yesterday and dont see myself swimming 15,000 a day ever again. Wow. I thought you were talking about calories. Isnt that how much food you had when training . Look, i know youre when i was like 15. Youre there for a program that youre launching. Near and dear to your heart working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission about pool safety for kids. Talking to a bunch of parents and youre a new parent yourself. Tell us about the program and why its so important to educate parents and kids alike about swimming . The biggest thing if you look at drowning in the world and definitely in the u. S. , second highest cause of death for children under the age of 14 in u. S. , and being able just to get out ahead of it. For us, for my family, thats how we learned to swim. Thats how we fell in love with the sport. My mom put us in the water for water safety and now being a father, you know, kind of having boomer on the verge of starting to walk, and we do have a pool out back. So always making sure we know exactly where he is, if he is outside, and now were in the process of coming up with a plan to, whether its fence the pool, or make sure we just have something set in place so if something does happen and he was to get around the pool, that he would be safe. You know, for me, this is Something Like you guys said. Its very passionate for me, and im taking the pledge as a parent and i hope everybody else will take the pledge as we with me. Michael, i have to ask. I have a 5monthold at home, dying to get him in the pool. Were going to florida next week. Is it too soon to put him in the pool with the chlorine and everything . No. Not at 5 months. Boomer was in the water between 3 and 5 months. Just him, i guess i think the biggest thing, what we try to do, with my swim school, trying to get the kid to be, like, comfortable in the water. I think thats the biggest thing. You know, for me, like, hes the direct opposite of me. I didnt want to be on my stomach. Only my back. He only wants to be on his stomach and hates being on his back. So every kid is differ and theyre all going to learn differently. The biggest thing, trying to get them relaxed in the water. Because i think once you get to the point where youre, where a kid is spazzing out, i think thats probably a big nono. So anytime we can try to get him to be as comfortable as they can, is a big goal, and with our foundation and the swim school its over 16,000 kids, in boys and girls clubs all over the u. S. And Special Olympics worldwide just being able to get water safety. If the kid doesnt want to swim, great. At least we know theyre safe in the water. And we can help save another life. Thank you so much, michael, for your time. And i have to tell you, people at home, his son boomer has 782,000 followers on instagram. More than most celebrities. Look at that so depressed. Amazing. Michael, thank you for your time this morning. The greatest swimmer in the history of the sport. Thank you. We should say for more information, head to the website, poolsafely. Gov. Thanks.
