Officials are working to make sure that the public is safe. Law enforcement says people should still go shopping and calling for extra vigilance as this new threat put this community and this nation on alert. They claimed responsibility in the mall in nairobi, kenya. Terrorists look for soft targets like this mall. They know they can penetrate and cause a lot of death and get a lot of attention. The department of Homeland Security is not aware of a specific credible plot against the mall of america or any other Shopping Center. Johnson is calling for public vigilance. Were you afraid . I you saw such a joy in her with helping. It was something she was called to do. A long time ago i accepted they cant control my kids. I have to put her in gods hands and let him take care of her. It was her passion. It was us her friends and close friends. Didnt matter. You knew what a dangerous place this was . Oh, yes. She worked for support to life, helping refugee families. Did you know she was planning to go to syria . No. What do you think you would have thought . As her mother i wouldnt have let her go. I would have talked with her. Unbenounced to them when her syrian boyfriend was called to help a Doctors Without Borders hospital, she insisted on coming along and days later her parents got the call they feared most. It was 5 00 on august 5th. They said she had been detained because of support to life and they were sure it would be okay. Thats basically what they said. She was detained, but not to worry. We were in communications with them unlike the other families. How do you raise 6. 2 million . It pretty much made it impossible. We feel they did want to release kayla. Unable to raise the money and barred them from paying a ransom in any event, they can only watch as the other hostages were brutally executed one by one. How did you handle such a thing . I thought and prayed that she would be freed. Do you feel the government did enough to help her . I think they wanted to but i think again the policy and i dont think anyone had any idea this group would be as powerful as they were. They just thought of them as a gang or thugs. But again, it goes back to we are so isolated in america. We are so in our own little area that we dont see whats going on over there during this time. The u. S. Traded five taliban for bo berg dal. Lets go now to nbc 10s Katie Zachary for an update. Reporter thats right. Police are on scene, mt. Laurel police specifically behind me. We just got an update from police. They say around 7 00 this morning, thats when the workplace shooting happened. An employee were told walked into his place of work Shields Business Solutions, which is an Armored Car Company here and started firing his weapon. He hit a coworker, another man three times. Then police say the shooter turned the gun on himself and killed himself. The victim was airlifted to cooper hospital with pretty serious injuries were told. In terms of whats happening right now, police have told the employees there is no one on the loose. This was a workplace shooting. It was an attempted murder and suicide. So theyre just interviewing people who were inside the building at the time of the shooting. We are hoping to get more information from them in about a half hour. The more she gained, the more embarrassed she was, the more she emotionally binge ate. There were two things that went on in her life that was the big turning point. She went to an amusic park with friends, she got on a roller coaster. She couldnt get the bar over but the guys that were workingen the roller coaster came on and literally sandwiched her in. She thought the bar was going to fly open and she tried through the entire ride. Her exboyfriend was cheating on her. She said enough is enough. She got rid of all of the negative in here life.
