Hey, congrats also on a bronx tale. You are now a director of a a Broadway Musical. [ cheers and applause ] i saw you on opening night. Congratulations. Thank you. Jimmy that was a fun night. That was me and jerry zaks. Jimmy oh, yeah. Jerry really did the heavy lifting, but hes a a wonderful jimmy jerry is a great director. Director. Jimmy i went to the play. Did you hear, by any chance, during the play, did you hear any unwrapping of a candy at all . I did. [ light laughter ] jimmy i have to apologize because that was my mom. I thought so. [ laughter ] jimmy i brought yeah, no. I brought my mom. I saw you at the opening. It was amazing, and were watching the play. Its great. Theres good singers. Theyre all great actors. And my mom puts her hand in her purse, and all of a sudden you just hear, like [ unwrapping ] [ laughter ] and i just kind of said in my ahead, i go, i hope thats not my mom. You know . [ light laughter ] that just sounds like something she would do, you know . So im just watching the serious part of the play where hes talking about, its better to be loved than feared. Hes like, should be fear you know. You should be loved, and and shes like [ unwrapping ] [ laughter ] and i go, oh, my gosh. I go, im gonna say something. Im gonna freak out. So i look over i mean, youre there, billy joel is here, Tommy Mottola is right behind me, and, im like, just nervous. And shes doing this, and i go and she puts her hand out, and she goes, do you want an altoid . [ laughter ] because she cant hear. She cant hear, so shes yelling loud, and i go, shush. I dont want an altoid. And then i go, how did you make that much noise with an altoid that comes in a tin it comes in a tin container . [ laughter ] what were you unwrapping . I put it in a zip lock bag. [ laughter ] all right. Stop talking. I hope it didnt distract you too much. No, no. Jimmy it was fantastic, and you guys, again, at the end, everyone got a standing ovation. Its at the longacre theatre. If youre in new york city, go see a bronx tale. Its great. [ cheers and applause ] congratulations on that. So much work goes into those things. Yeah, a lot, a lot. Jimmy i mean, how long have you been working on the script and well, for years. I mean, we i always felt it would be a wonderful musical. And, like, 15 years ago, i or even more, i asked chazz to, you know, whatd he think, blah, blah, blah. He had some some a a musician had written some stuff, and it sounded bad, and so i just let it go. I never thought that i just let it go, foolishly. Jimmy yeah. And then, a few years ago, me and Tommy Mottola and Jane Rosenthal and chazz were sitting around, and we were saying, lets do it. You know . Lets and so how do we do it . And then were trying to figure that out and finally jimmy you cracked it. We figured it out. Jimmy you cracked it. Its great. Congrats on that. Also, you have a movie called the comedian out, which is great. You play a struggling comedian that was a you had a hit sitcom. And now hes just kind of a a struggling comedian doing all the clubs around here. At governors, you do i know that youre at the friars club, which is great, because you know, im a friar. Yeah. Jimmy im a member, yeah. Yeah. Ive seen you there. Jimmy yeah, yeah, exactly. [ light laughter ] but you i saw you in some interview, and you said that you asked a lot of comedians for advice and stuff like that yeah. Jimmy and how to do standup, which is funny, because i never got to [ laughter ] you never i never called you. Sorry. Jimmy yeah, you never called me, nor emailed, your agent, nobody. Yeah, nobody at all. Even when i saw you, you go, yeah, bye. [ laughter ] it was actually, you went out of your way to not ask me. Now i remember because we were talking, and you said, is there something you want to ask me . [ laughter ] jimmy exactly, yeah. And i said, no, no. Jimmy no, no, nothing at all. Leave me alone. Yeah. No, but i of course would have asked you if i i dont know, if i ever, if we ever jimmy oh, come on. I love the friars club so much. All the writers here at the show are members of the friars club. In fact im on the menu of the friars club, if you look down here. Jimmy fallons Favorite Chicken chow mein [ light laughter ] and thats pretty and thats major league. I dont see i dont see your name on this thing. [ laughter ] no, i know. I know. I know. [ applause ] jimmy got a play, got a a movie, president ial medal of freedom. You dont got chicken chow mein, buddy. Thats what im talking about. [ laughter ] well, you saw the one scene where jimmy yeah, i know. No, im with you. I dont want to say it. Jimmy you cant say it on tv of what people think of the chow mein. [ laughter ] anyway, its in the movie where Billy Crystal makes a cameo. But, it must have been fun. Was it fun for you to get up and do stand up and do jokes . Its very, very hard, and i worked with Jessica Kirson and Lewis Friedman jimmy oh, yeah. And with jim norton, and they were great. But its its much harder than, well, you know, than you would think, and jimmy well, basically, what happens is you get heckled by some guy. Yeah. Jimmy and hes got a camera on you. Well that and the story, yeah. Jimmy yeah, and then you punch this guy because youre Robert De Niro, and thats what you do. No, no. Jimmy but youre the character, eddie. So you you punch this guy out, and it goes viral. Yeah. I mean, thats the character, whatever, he i mean, i was actually told by the comedians that i talked with, jessica, lewis freedman, and jim, i think, and others that that doesnt happen often. To get to that point would really be not a stretch, but Something Like that. But thats the story, and thats how we wanted to we had to try and make that work as a point in the story. So hopefully, we jimmy ive seen that, ive seen that. Youve seen yeah. Jimmy i saw one. There was a ventriloquist with a puppet, and the guy got in a a fight with the puppet. [ laughter ] the puppet was insulting his wife or something. He was like, at least i tried to strangle the puppet, which is hilarious. But anyways, you ended up having to go to community service. And you meet leslie mann, and you strike up a relationship. And, i dont know, i just i thought it was really, really cool. And, its tons of great people. Patti lupone is in this. Danny devito is great in it as well. I want to show a clip. Heres Robert De Niro and danny devito in the comedian in theaters, february 3rd. Check this out. I cant do it anymore. I cant take the aggravation. I dont know what to say. I mean, im so aggravated as it is. Im trying to get something going over here. Either way, i thought you killed at the wedding.
