So were starting out quite a bit higher. 19 degrees warmer in vineland. 15 dover. And 14 degrees warmer right now in Atlantic City. Heres a look at the actual temperatures on the board. Some of us in the low 40s here. 41 vineland, philadelphia. Upper 30s for allentown and coatesville. At 37 degrees. Also above freezing this morning. Not something we could say yesterday over much of the area. Heres your current wind speeds. Not currently strong. About five to ten miles per hour. That is enough to make it colder than it truly is. A lot of us feel like were in the 30s. You may want a jacket. Overall dry conditions in the forecast today. Not the same tomorrow. Well get to the details on the big changes coming up. Krystal, thanks so much for that. Now to the latest development in a hit and run that police say left a gruesome scene behind. Right now investigators are testing a driver they say slammed into a 71yearold man as he was crossing the street. Police say the driver could not stop until he crashed his car a shore ways from the scene. Nbc 10s Pamela Osborne is live in fern rock and police have even said this is tragic because the victim was so close to home. Tell us more. Hes a 71yearold man. They say he was retired military. As you say he was on his way home when he was struck and killed. Veteran officers describing the scene as grisly. It was 1 40 when police were called to 12th and chew. When they got here they found at 71yearold man dead in the street. Police say the car that struck him was going eastbound on chew avenue. The impact was so severe that the victim was either thrown, or dragged a block away from where Police Believe he was actually hit. The 25yearold driver of the Mercury Sable did not stop. He attempted to flee the scene but was caught when he crashed his car a short distance later into a fence. Police on scene overnight reflecting on one of the first calls of the new year. This happens only a little over an hour and a half into the new year, and this is a tragedy that greets us in the year 2017. The passing of a male that was merely crossing the street, going home at 1 40 this morning. And the driver of that vehicle was transported to the hospital to be treated for a broken leg. Police have yet to identify the victim or the suspect that they have in custody right now. But we do know that both men are believed to be from the neighborhood. New from overnight a lot of damage to a business in Camden County after a yep smashed into it. The crash happened around 1 30 this morning in collingswood. Police tell us the driver lost control and hit the building at route 130 and haddon avenue. He is expected to be okay. Philadelphia said happy new year with this fireworks display over the Delaware River. The fireworks went off at midnight and delighted the thousands of people who watched from below. That wasnt the only Fireworks Show for the city last night. Fitting for that show, right . Star wars music capped off the Fireworks Show at penns landing at 6 00. Hundreds of people gathered along the water front to watch the show and get in skating at the blue cross river rink. Visitors say it was a great way to enjoy the holiday. Not a club guy. Organizers say the parade has transformed after a push for Greater Cultural and racial sensitivity last year you may remember the parade made National Headlines for offensive performances. One group donned brown faces and dressed in tacos. Another portrayed transgender icons Caitlyn Jenner and one member uttered a homophobic slur. The man who investigators say shot and killed a Pennsylvania State trooper is dead after a standoff with officers. 23yearold trooper landon weaver was shot while responding to a domestic incident at a home in Juniata Township in Huntington County friday night after a massive manhunt the suspect Jason Robinson was found at a mobile home yesterday morning. He was killed during a confrontation with troopers. Robinson had just been released on bail earlier this month for car theft charges. Governor tom wolf has ordered state flags across pennsylvania to be lowered to halfstaff in honor of trooper weaver. That includes the State Police Barracks in winfield heights. The flag will remain lowered until january 3rd. Weaver had been on the police force for just a year. Pam, thanks for that update. A very length start to the new year in philadelphia. Police are investigating two deadly shootings. The first happened outside a bar in port richmond. Police say the victim pounded on the door until a Security Guard came to it. The two then got into a fight over using the rest room. The guard pulled the gun and stopped the man who did have a silence to carry. The investigation into that continues. The second shooting happened in the tioga section of the city. A man was shot in the chest on west willard street. He died at the scene. So far no arrests made in that. 2017 arrives with excitement in philadelphia. Thousands of people watched these fireworks over the Delaware River last night. The show began at the stroke of midnight to welcome in the new year. And happening now some of those same revellers are getting ready to head into center city for the annual mummers parade. Because of the parade, there are road closures in place right now. New details this morning in the murder of a man in Atlantic City. Investigators have now made an arrest. The victim was found dumped in a trash can yesterday morning. Police say 52yearold ricky ward was hit in the head a number of times with rocks. The suspect, 64yearold thomas green is being held on a Million Dollars cash bail this morning. Police have not yet said what the motive was. Police in south jerry are looking for a naked man who appears to be targeting teenage girls. Investigators believe the same man exposed himself in two south jersey communities. The most recent incident just friday afternoon took place involving two teenage girls. They say they were chased by a naked man in easton township. He then got into a black jeep and drove away. And police in Medford Township say on december 21st the man with the same description got out of the jeep, totally naked except for a pair of running shoes. The suspect is described as a chubby man, clean shaven, in his late 30s to early 40s. Police say if you have any information give them a call. Well, new year, new tax. Philadelphia police say he lived in the area and was likely walking home. Investigators tell us the driver kept going until he crashed his car. Karen klein hiked nearly 30 miles in over30 hours in snow and frigid temperatures when her familys car got stuck in a blizzard. Shes recovering from injuries, including severe frostbite to her feet. Nbc 10 was with her yesterday as she celebrated her birthday at home thankful to be alive. Our Randy Gyllenhaal has her story. Ive been cooped up inside for so long. Reporter out of the hospital, back home in northampton county, karen klein takes a walk through her neighborhood. A little freaky to be out in the cold. That is a little disconcerting. Cold . Thank you, darling. Reporter its been a week since we walked 30 miles through the wilderness of the grand canyon, karen, her husband and young son were on a trip out west when their car got stuck in a ditch were stuck here. Reporter the two days stayed behind while karen, an avid runner, left on foot to find help. And so it was just like ive got to get there. But i could only move because i was so exhausted, i could only move ten steps at a time and then stop and rest or id fall over. Reporter its a whirlwind story of survival, and now back home she greets neighbors happy to see her alive, and recounts the darkest moments of her journey, spending one cold night shivering next to a pine tree. It was about five hours of just talking, and rocking back and forth, to keep myself awake. Kind of to keep myself warm. Reporter she eventually made it to a cabin for shelter while her husband hiked to find a cell signal, and called for help. Rescuers eventually found all three just hours before an impending snowstorm. I cant believe im home. I cant believe im home. And when we pulled into the driveway, i just i couldnt stop sobbing. You dont need the huge coat because temperatures are going to start climbing here now that the sun has picked up. So were looking at conditions today that will be very nice for any of you that are planning to get outside for the mummers parade, the eagles game, or anything else going on this first day of 2017.
