Today Philadelphia Police will be looking at Surveillance Video as they continue to investigate a mobstyle attack in center city. It happened near 16th and walnut streets around 6 00 last night. A Police Source tells us a group of more than 50 teenage boys moved down the block, picked out people at random and attacked them. At least eight people were hurt including an offduty officer who tried to arrest several of the boys. We spoke to a couple who witnessed the attack. They did not want their faces shown on camera. Take a listen to what they had to say. One guys hands were shaking but crazily shaking. He was obviously so upset. Police arrested three teens and they hope the Surveillance Video will help them identify more boys involved in the attack. It took over eight hours for a barricade situation in bucks county to come to an end. Police say the suspect fired on officers. That put all of steamville road in middletown township on guard yesterday and forced neighbors to evacuate. Other residents were advised to just stay put, stay inside their homes. Police tell us the incident was sparked by Text Messages that the man allegedly sent, saying he would harm himself, and possibly members of his family. As hours passed, efforts to negotiate became ineffective. He was, you know, coming in and out of his front door, in and out of front window, back window, opening the window, shutting the window, kind of playing games with us. Tear gas wouldnt work. A robot couldnt see anything. So around 8 30 last night, the s. W. A. T. Team went inside the house. They found the man rolled up in a carpet. They recovered a gun from the house. The man will face criminal charges. He will also get the help that he needs. Lets head now to philadelphias crescentville neighborhood where an suv slammed into the house. It slammed into roosevelt boulevard last night. You can see the suv against that brick retaining wall in front of the home. No word on any injuries in this case or whether any charges will be filed. Now to some breaking news a powerful 7. 4 magnitude earthquake just shook new zealand. It hit christchurch. Thats the same place that was devastated by a quake in 2011. We warned of it yesterday, wed see another round of very chilly temperatures to start throughout your delaware neighborhoods. Wilmington at 33. Greenville at 30 degrees. And 29 degrees. We see these 30s as we continue to go further south, as well. This whole area under a freeze warning this morning through 8 00 a. M. Dover at 34. Harrington, right at freezing 32 degrees. And reading in those upper 20s. Right now, a little better off but still cold in those mid upper 30s. Looking at your forecast for today, just like yesterday light to breezy rain. So not any high wind but 10 to 15mileperhour winds on the board. The big difference is the winds are mostly coming in directly from the west. When you pull in winds from the west or the southwest, thats when you start to pull in warmer air. Thats a good sign for us. High pressure helping boost that warmth into our region. Means that temperatures can pick up in some areas about 10 degrees warmer than what we saw just yesterday. So, heres a look. Warmer sunday in our forecast. Those temperatures, mostly going to be right around the lower 60s later on. 61 in philadelphia. 59 in the suburbs. Upper 50s as well for the Lehigh Valley. And then close to 60 from new jersey through the shore and right into delaware. Actually a little warmer than is average for this time of year. But we are looking at, though, is a coastal system that will be affecting us. Now some models have it hitting a little more close to us. Some a little more out to sea. Depending where it wobbles over us that will show how much rain we pick up. It does look like regardless, starting in delaware, lateday monday, overnight into tuesday, chances of rain pick up. Same along the shore points like atlantic city. Areas like reading to philadelphia, it will be more likely well see monday night into tuesday. That uptick in rain chances. And then well dry things out as we move wednesday into your thursday. Some isolated chances right now at least in the forecast wednesday into thursday. Otherwise chance for rain, that wont move in until your next weekend. We kind of have this on and off chance of showsers throughout the tenday forecast. Temperatures sunday into monday, low 60s. We cool down a bit along your tuesday here and thats because of that coastal system that will be moving through. Temperatures do pick back up though as we move wednesday, thursday, into even your friday saturday. Those mid 60s sunday, though is looking like it could be a wet one. Oh, we know winter is upon us. A lot of us are near or just barely below freezing, as well. Lancaster at 30. Reading at 33 degrees. Philadelphia is at 38. But northeast philly checking at 34 degrees. So, some spots around philadelphia, likely have dropped below freezing this morning. Just a heads up. Wilmington is now at freezing, 32 degrees. Areas like wildwood a little better off, 44 degrees. The current temperature reporting. Looking at our temperature trend, the average for today is 57 degrees. Now friday we were in the mid 60s. Saturday, yesterday, just as expected we had that big dip, only capped at 51 degrees below average. But today, were boosting that forecast right back up. A High Temperature of 61 degrees expected today, even monday. Near cooldown in store with chances of rain moving in. Were going to track those chances of showers coming up. A tsunami warning has been issued for parts of new zealand after a 7. 4 magnitude earthquake shook the southern part of the island earlier this morning. At this point there are reports of only minor damage in the capital, which is on the northern part of the island. But of course that may change. The area of christchurch bore the brunt of this quake. Its the same place devastated by an earthquake in 2011. We will hope you posted on this story. New in our area two women are in Critical Condition following an accident in center city. Police say both were struck by this truck at 11th and Market Streets before 2 30 this morning. Investigators tell us the driver did stay at the scene. Theres no word of any charges. Three teenagers are under arrest this morning and police are looking for more after a mobstyle attack in center city. An offduty Police Officer who tried to put a stop to the beatings is one of the injured victims. This all happened near 16th and walnut streets right around 6 00 last night. A Police Source tells us a group of about 50 teenage boys moved down the block, picking out people at random, and attacking them. At least eight people were hurt. The offduty officer tried to arrest several of the boys but the mob turned on him breaking the bone right around his eye. Witnesses who were shaken up after the incident spoke to us on camera but they did not want to show their faces. They said it was unprovoked. It was scary. Police will be looking at Surveillance Video to identify more boys from the group who may be arrested. This morning a suspect is in critical but stable condition following a Police Involved shooting in philadelphia. Heres what we know. Police say they were checking out a minivan at fourth and linley streets last night when a man got out of the van and took off running. Police tell us they chased the suspect who fell, got up, and then turn toward the officers with a gun. Thats when one officer shot the suspect. That officer will be placed on administrative leave while authorities investigate the case. Villanova university is urging its Campus Community to come together after a student says she was attacked by a group of men yelling trump. Police tell nbc 10 that the assault happened in the septaness tunnels between west campus and main campus thursday night. There are few details on this incident but yesterday villanova released a statement saying that this racist behavior runs completely counter to the schools values. Theres no word on any suspects but villanova insists anyone responsible will face serious consequences. The fbi continues to look into racist messages sent to black students at the university of pennsylvania. Security experts traced the messages to oklahoma. And the university of oklahoma has suspended one of its students in connection with the case. Using a text messaging app, someone or some people who identified themselves as trumps disimles sent 100 students at penn racist messages, and images of lynchings. President elect trump graduated from penns Wharton School of business. Penn alumni have started a change. Org petition calling on mr. Trump to break his silence on the string of hate crimes following the election. Theyre urging him to make a statement denouncing all hate speech. So far it has received nearly 6,000 signatures. Postelection protests are continuing across the country. Youre looking at an antitrump demonstration in portland, oregon, last night. Police made at least two dozen arrests here. Other protests in new york, miami, and las vegas have been mostly peaceful. In philadelphia, antitrump protesters marched in center city for a fourth straight night. Police escorted dozens of demonstrators last night, many of them held signs criticizing the president elect. Antitrump protesters also took to the streets of bucks county last night. These photos show demonstrators marching. The president ial vote in bucks county was really split, 48 to 48 with clinton winning by just 2,000 votes. Youre trying to have unity in the country. The people are not cooperating. Were all americans. Theyre americans. Were americans. We have a commonality and thats a protest. I respect their right to protest. But they also have to respect our right to protest also. In the Lehigh Valley, duelling protests happened just across the street from each other. The demonstrations yesterday in easton were peaceful, and at one point we captured protesters from both sides running into the street to embrace one another. So were actually tracking temperatures that are a little above average. Thats all thanks to a shift in our flow. The weather pattern, what we looked at yesterday with cooler air from the north and northwest. Today, warmer from the west and southwest. Not bad. 58 degrees from westchester, cookstown at 58 as well for the forecast High Temperature. Sunny throughout the entire region. Trenton at 60. Ocean, and Rehoboth Beach the same with the high at 60 degrees. Hour by hour forecast, we go through your morning, your afternoon, into your evening, still not a change on the board. Sunny conditions. Clear overnight into your monday morning. Should be good viewing for super moon if you get out early monday morning. Then were looking for conditions to start to deteriorate. Pulling some clouds from the south of us. This is ahead of that coastal system i was talking about. 6 00 you see the rain starting to develop into parts of delaware. Thats where showers could start and overnight spread along the shore. And potentially through philadelphia. 4 30 a. M. , i do expect the chance of showers will continue right through your tuesday, as well. So, the potential for rain monday night into tuesday, the main focus. Although areas like delaware and the shore may see that a little earlier. Low 60s sunday into your monday. Cooldown on your tuesday at 57 degrees, thanks to the rain a little bit warmer through your saturday. And then yet again another chance of showers by next weekend. Decision 2016 is made and in the books. Donald trump is our next president. But did the result divide the country even more than before the election . That will be part of a discussion this morning on nbcs meet the press. Joining us now for a preview is moderator of meet the press chuck todd. Good morning, chuck. Good morning, rosemary. All right, chuck, the protests havent let up, plus there seems to be some policy shifts from what we heard during trumps campaign. Talk to us about what the state of the country is right now and where were going. Well. Look, were calling it split screen america. Its pretty obviously narrowly divided along geography, were divided along race. Were divided along class. And that all showed up in this election. And i think its a were its a its a tough period were going to be in for some time. The question is going to be how does a President Trump handle this. This is something that hes going to a challenge hes going to have to address early on. But governing, this is hes got an opportunity to do a lot of things quickly. Given that there is a republican control of the house. Republican control of the senate. And i think the question is going to be who he names as chief of staff will tell me whether he wants to get a lot done in that first six months. If he goes with an insider candidate like reince priebus, chairman of the republican party, close to paul ryan that indicates to me he wants to sign a lot of legislation out of the house. If he goes with steve bannon the breitbart provocateur that tells me hes looking to have a far more contentious relationship with official washington. Chuck, just yesterday Hillary Clinton, she placed part of the blame for losing the election on fbi director james comey and those letters to congress. Was it james comey that doomed her . Or was it that she couldnt turn out the Obama Coalition to the polls . I think you could theres a chance that the answer is yes to both questions. Theres a chance you could make a connection to the comey letters, and the lack of enthusiasm at the end particularly with millennials and younger africanamericans who were never enthralled with her candidacy in the first place. So i think that you could make a case that those letters sort of came at a time that reinforced that and cannot separate the fact that the day the comey letter the next day donald trump was a changed candidate, and he was disciplined and on message for ten straight days, the longest stretch, arguably, of the entire president ial campaign. Then again as it was secretary clinton that had the private server in the first place that triggered all that. So, i think she has a a fair point and the data backs it up on the comey letters but, of course, she entered this campaign having made that unforced error. Ive got you for just about one more minute. I know on the meet the press youre going to be breaking down some of the Election Results from battleground states like pennsylvania that once were blue, and now have flipped to red. We are. And whats interesting about pennsylvania, you know, theres different explanations in different in different states. The biggest explanation in pennsylvania was the surge. There really was a surge of turnout. I think two things for pennsylvania that we noticed she did get 40,000 viewer votes than president obama did out of philadelphia. That wasnt insignificant. And she did not get as much of a lead out of those suburban counties in philadelphia as they thought they had ten days earlier. And whether that was a comey impact or whatever, that is the difference in her narrowly losing pennsylvania versus perhaps having narrowly won it. All right, chuck todd moderator of meet the press.
