Reporter call it the mystery of the vanishing creek. Neighbors say where im standing right now in the Huntington Valley creek, i would usually have water up to my waist. Neighbors say it dried up almost overnight. So the question everyone has here is where did all the water go. Tucked away behind homes and along a golf course runs the Huntington Valley creek, usually great for fishing and swimming, but it now looks more like this. So if there was water here you would be stepping on rocks to not get wet here, then hopping over but there was definitely lots of water. The fish are dying. Reporter her family found flopping fish dying flopping in the air. Her sons tried to save as many as they could. He was like mom, wheres the water, wheres the fish . And he immediately started crying. Reporter neighbors say in 30 years its never been this dry. It hasnt rained in a long time. And its been very hot. Reporter they say our current drought is part of the problem, no significant rain here since early august, but neighbors think the golf course next door might also play a role. An Irrigation Pump sits right next to the creek bed and with the drought, ground water levels are already low. Their pump is very near the creek, so theyre drawing down the ground water near the creek. They agreed to shut the pump off for a period of time. Reporter neighbors hoping the water comes back before summer wraps up. Saddened, shocked, the kids were like looking around, saying where did it go . Reporter now that country club so close here to the creek, if you actually find golf balls now that the waters all dried up. The country club does tell me theyre working with the neighborhood to try to figure out whats going on and whether those pumps might be connected to all of this. That moderate drought were experiencing is not like the drought further north. This isnt the only part of the region asking wheres the water . Thats right, a new report shows more areas are dealing with dry conditions and could really use some rain. Sheena parveen is here with a closer look. And we havent seen measurable rainfall since september 1. So thats quite a long time to go, considering that we still technically are summer. So we do now have a drought across part of the area. The area, most of it abnormally dry, but if you look at where the red shading is, that is where we have a more intense drought at the moment. So were not at that level, we dont really expect to be. If you look at the philadelphia area, this tan shaded color, this is going towards new jersey, that is a moderate drought. Thats what were looking at in these areas, the yellow shaded section, this goes through the pennsylvania section, lehigh valley, thats not technically a drought now, but abnormally dry is what were calling it. Even in sections of delaware, normal shading, but locally, yes, we are lacking in the rain department. Come the end of this work, were expecting scattered showers and thunderstorms which we expect to be lingering into next week. Well show you the timing of that into your weekend. Reporter it was a fateful night in 2013, when samarra banks and her children were crossing at Second Street at the same time a driver was street racing, he plowed into them. He killed the 23yearold mother and three of her sons. Her life and the lives of her children and all the other lives that were taken on the boulevard.
