Senator Bernie Sanders predicted victory while campaigning in erie today. While he sounded confident about pennsylvania, he did not win new york tonight. Instead, that victory went to Hillary Clinton, new yorks former senator. She won with 58 of the vote. For the republicans, donald trump was the victor. He won 60 of the vote in his home state. When you look at pennsylvania, when you look at indiana, when you look at maryland and rhode island and so many places, we have problems everywhere you look. We are going to solve those problems and one of the big problems one of the big problems is the economy and jobs and that is my wheelhouse. Meanwhile, clinton was also in new york to celebrate her victory. And tonight, little less than a year later, the race for the democratic nomination is in the homestretch and victory is in sight. And with new york in the win column now, the focus quickly turns to pennsylvania. Tomorrow, clinton will be here in philadelphia. Shes scheduled to take part in a discussion at st. Pauls Baptist Church in the afternoon then shell hold an organizing event at the fillmore tomorrow night. In fact, the entire country is now focused on attention. The next big prize in the president ial race, voters there and in delaware head to the polls a week from today. You can see how the candidates are converging on pennsylvania. Democratic senator Bernie Sanders campaigned in State College tonight. Republican john kasich met with voters in pittsburgh. But philadelphia voters are crucial which is why senator ted cruz is here tonight. He brought Carly Fiorina, a former republican rival whos now endorsing his white house bid. Senator ted cruz wants to get ahead of the game by pushing for a win next tuesday. Let me tell you, this was an energetic crowd inside this building behind me. They didnt seem fazed by the New York Primary results and neither did ted cruz. Cruz actually seemed more focused on winning over the voters here in philadelphia and the rest of pennsylvania. Senator ted cruz made the most of his brief visit to philadelphia tonight. After he spoke to the crowd at the National Constitution center, he greeted and thanked all his supporters including military veteran rob boyson. I think hes got the right idea how to do whats necessary to make the country what it should be. Reporter boyson told nbc 10 he backs cruz because of his stance on homeland security. Senator cruz emphasized security, freedom from government, and creating jobs. Join me now on this journey of less talk and more action, real solutions. I think it was the only true republican in the race that would balance the budget. Reporter tommy davis was the first to shake cruzs hand as he walked to the stage. Tommy will be voting in his first election and says hes followed cruz since the start of his campaign. I see his speeches all the time and cool to shake hands with him and meet him. And the next president of the united states, ted cruz. Reporter Carly Fiorina introduced cruz. She also expressed the urgency of the crowd voting for cruz in next tuesdays pennsylvania primary. As for the democrats, Hillary Clinton continues to hold a big lead over Bernie Sanders. She holds 1,869 delegates to sanders 1,174. Steven mayer died after a car ran into him this morning. Police say a teenage student was behind the wheel. Nbc 10s Denise Nakano reports from robbinsville. Reporter this is a closeknit community and you can really feel that with the overwhelming turnout here for superintendent dr. Steven mayer. Hundreds came to tonights vigil and here many stay. Silence fell over Foxmoor Community Park in robbinsville Mercer County. No words could describe as great a loss as the accident that took superintendent dr. Steven mayers life so suddenly. How do you make sense of a nonsensical situation . I mean, i was at a loss for words. I still expect to wake up from a bad dream. I am speechless. I couldnt believe something so tragic would happen to such a great guy. Reporter more than 500 people turned out for tonights vigil held only hours after mayer was killed. He was on a routine morning jog with his dog when he was struck by a student on her way to nearby Robbinsville High School for a class trip. I couldnt believe it. I got a call this morning, told me first thing this morning and i just couldnt i still dont believe it. It hurts. Reporter mourners placed candles alongside flowers and wrote messages to dr. Mayers family on index cards. I look at this, we all cared and he cared about us. He cared about the community. Reporter teammates of mayers son came in their lacrosse uniforms showing solidarity in their support. Such a great family, such a tragic event, and i think all the people out here speak of how big of an impact that he had on the town. Skyforce 10 over the scene of a fivevehicle wreck in king of prussia earlier this afternoon. It had the schuylkill expressway westbound lanes near route 202 shut down for hours. Three people taken to the hospital are expected to be okay. Just a few hours ago, crews got this all cleaned up and all lanes have since reopened. A warning for anyone whose commute includes the delaware memorial bridge. Crews closed three of the four lanes on the south bound span of the bridge for the next few days. This tax would be a means to pay for universal prek, investment in our children which could help lift an entire generation out of poverty. 3 cent per ounce tax going to mean the destruction of all the Corner Stores and the Small Businesses of the city. The company says customers will receive two separate credits this month and going into next month. One for about 122 and the second for 49. 95. The credits are part of the new merger between exelon and delmarvas parent company. Some wilmington homeowners are not happy with Delmarva Power installing gas meters in front of their homes. Neighbors in the 40 acres neighborhood call them eye sores. More than 100 residents signed a petition saying they dont want the meters in front of their houses. They say the meters could be kept in their basements instead. Nobody needs or wants to see an industrial contraption, device and pipes bolted to the front of their home. It just doesnt make sense. Its bad for the property value. Its bad for the neighborhoods. A Delmarva Power spokesperson tells nbc 10 the outdoor meters are much safer and easier to maintain. A new treatment could be a game changer in the way doctors treat some of the most severe and devastating strokes. Doctors say the use of a stent retriever in stroke patients could be revolutionary. The device is threaded through blood vessels into the brain grabbing the clot pulling it out of the body.
