Were definitely seeing congestion building westbound. Then eastbound, youll notice we have construction set up, so the right lane is blocked there. Into new jersey, this cleared. It was a disabled truck on 295 northbound right at exit 16a. One lane was blocked, but that is gone, so no problems to report now on 295. And 42 is pretty quiet. This is northbound as drivers make their way from route 55 to the area bridges. Youll notice speeds still in the mid50s. Vai . Thank you, jillian. This morning, family and friends are making arrangements for philadelphias first firefighter female killed in the line of duty. Nbc 10s Monique Braxton is live in West Oak Lane, where investigators will be back on the scene trying to determine the cause. Mo, tell us more on what you have. Reporter vai, a Police Officer remains on guard here outside the gutted house. That is an indication that investigations are still under way, one looking at the safety apparatus that the fallen firefighter was wearing, a second investigation by the philadelphia Fire Marshals Office to determine the cause of the blaze. Now, while you were sleeping this morning, weve been gathering comments about the firefighter now being hailed as a hero. Look at our video. Now more worried about her children than anything. Her boy, her son is 16. Ive got two boys, 18 and 17, and theyre close. And she has a baby. She couldnt wait to have another child. She has another child, and to just not be able to be there for her is a hard thing. Reporter 36yearold joyce craiglewis was one of three firefighters who rushed inside the West Oak Lane home that was on fire. We went to her fire company, engine 64 in lawncrest, to learn more about the 11year veteran. We found black bunting hanging outside, strangers joining firefighters for a candlelight vigil. We were also allowed inside to see the growing memorial at her locker. We went to her home and talked to grieving family members. Now, the fire commissioner, Derrick Sawyer, tells us she was a firefighters firefighter. 1 of 58 female firefighters assigned to the department. She was also the mother of a teen and a toddler, as you heard her sisterinlaw just reflecting on. Were going to stay on top of this investigation and have more for you in the next half hour. At 6 04, were following breaking news in northeast philadelphia. Police are on the scene of a robbery there. Nbc 10s jesse gary just got live on the scene there in northeast philadelphia. What can you tell us . Reporter christine, im standing on large street near st. Vincent. Philadelphia police are waiting for detectives to arrive. The robbery took place here on the sidewalk in front of this row house here in the 7100 block. I talked to both Philadelphia Police and the homeowner inside. Police say that a friend of the homeowner came up and was robbed right here on the street by two men, armed men with guns, and then the robbers ran off. The homeowner tells me his friend was headed back to Mainland China and he was getting ready to take him to the airport. We went outside. The friend did, and thats when he was robbed. So, were not exactly sure whether the friend was inside going out or outside coming in. In either case, police say he was robbed of about 7,000 in cash, and now theyre looking for two men armed and considered dangerous. Philadelphia Police Detectives are on their way here. Police tell us three men with guns entered a home on fern street in darby borough around 11 30 last night. No one was hurt and police are still trying to figure out what was taken from the home. Happening today in bucks county, a videographer accused of ripping off customers is scheduled for a preliminary hearing. Police arrested michael dolbow on felony theft and other charges. Dolbow is from bensalem. Detectives say couples paid him thousands of dollars to record video of their weddings. He took the money but didnt deliver the video. The Delaware County man accused of killing his case worker and shooting his psychiatrist pleaded not guilty. 49yearold richard plots ts is charged with murder and weapons offenses, accused in the july shooting death of 53yearold theresa hunt at a Wellness Center on the campus of mercyfitzgerald hospital. Authorities say psychiatrist Lee Silverman was grazed by a bullet but then returned fire with his own gun, wounding plotts. Police are also looking for two men who pulled off a Home Invasion in south philadelphia. Police tell us masked men armed with guns forced their way inside a home on mole street last night. Investigators say the robbers hit a man in the head, trashed the home and got away with about 600 and some jewelry. The victim was not seriously hurt. This morning the reward is up to 65,000 in the search for missing College Student shane montgomery. Its now been 14 days since shane disappeared. The West Chester University student was last seen early thanksgiving morning at a pub in manayunk. And now to the casino crisis in Atlantic City. We have learned that the deal to sell revel casino and hotel to Brookfield Holdings is now dead. A source close to the negotiations told nbc 10 revel did everything it could to close the deal. The casino wants to set up a Court Hearing to accept a bid by a florida developer who is still interested in the closed casino. And jobless figures show the casino crisis cost the area thousands of jobs this year. The u. S. Bureau of labor statistics said the Atlantic City region lost nearly 10,000 jobs in 2014. Most of those layoffs involved the closings of four casinos. The trump taj mahal is scheduled to shut down later this month, putting 3,000 more people out of work. Happening today, parents and students will try to convince delaware officials why two Charter Schools in wilmington should stay open. The education departments Charter School Accountability Committee recommended not to renew the charters of Reach Academy and gateway labs schools at the end of this Academic Year because of poor performance. It is dry this morning and temperatures are warmer than yesterday, but we still have the gusty winds, the same noreaster is producing those winds that will be with us today and will deliver more wet weather this afternoon. Well be watching for scattered showers, mainly north and west to start with. And rain showers to begin with, but theres a possibility of snow showers as things get colder later on. Right now, heading out the door, not bad. 38 degrees in doylestown, low 40s for philadelphia. Cape may, most of delaware and south jersey in the low 40s. Were waiting for snow in the pocono mountains. It was a mix of rain and snow yesterday, so accumulations really limited. Today a better chance well get some accumulating snow in the mountains. This morning, though, completely dry in our area, and with breaks in the clouds, well see some sunshine. Were watching the snow to the north in new york state. But other than that, noontime well see a few light rain showers in reading and in allentown with a few scattered snow showers to the north and the wet weather will be streaming into the rest of the area by 4 00 this afternoon. I dont want to jinx it, but were not dealing with any serious accidents at all. This is 95, southbound near cottman avenue. We have some pockets of volume starting to build on 95. In fact, drive time indicating a delay. You can see 19 minutes is the drive time southbound from woodhaven to the vine. If youre traveling 76 eastbound from the blue route to the vine, thats about a 14minute trip. And 202 is looking pretty good on the northbound side from 30 to 76, will take you about 12 minutes right now. Weve had this problem for a day now in west conshohocken. Yesterday a mudslide happened because of all of that rain that we had. So, as a result, balligomingo road was closed out near front street, and that is still closed. If you want to take matsonford road this morning, thats a good option for you, and that is looking okay. Heading north to the lehigh valley, pretty quiet here. This is route 22 at airport road. No accidents, no delays. 78 looks good and so does the northeast extension. Mass transit, everything is on or close to schedule. Christine . From our delaware bureau, were learning more about the two men charged with setting several churches on fire in kent county. Alex harrington and joseph so skochelak are under arrest for starting fires. Investigators say it had nothing to do with religion. One pastor tells nbc 10 these guys just wanted to steal cash or whatever they could find. Well, they were looking for money, and i guess our church was on their way, and you know, this was a good place to start. The suspects are facing arson and burglary charges. Well, police in camden say they busted a Camden County pizza shop owner for allegedly overcharging customers. Officers went under cover at bella pizza ii on williamstown road in sicklerville. Investigators say the owner overcharged credit cards just about every day throughout the past four months. Police are now trying to track down more potential victims. Well, Rutgers University is changing the way it handles reports of sexual assaults. According to nj. Com, students facing disciplinary action will go before an administrative board instead of a panel of faculty and students. Rutgers also updating its code of conduct to include a new category covering relationship violence. The University Led the state last year in the number of sexual assaults on campus. Pennsylvania governorelect tom wolf says he will not use taxpayer money to cover the cost of his transition to harrisburg. Wolf announced hell raise private funds to pay for the process. He said donations will be capped at 50,000 and will be listed on his transition website. Wolf said hell also live in his home near york during his time as governor and hell pay for security himself. Meanwhile, new Jersey Governor Chris Christie will make a stop in the battleground state of iowa next month. The governors appearance at a conservative summit comes while hes weighing in a bid for the 2016 republican president ial nomination. Christie made several visits to iowa during the midterm elections cycle, including a stop at a fundraiser for republican congressman steve king. Hes been touring the country as chairman of the republican governors association. We are preparing for the arrival of pope francis for the world meeting of families next year, and now weve learned all the schools in the philadelphia archdiocese will close during the upon theipontiffs visit. Catholic leaders will close all schools the 23rd through the 25th, allowing teachers and families to take part in the world meeting of families. More than a Million People from around the world are expected to visit philadelphia for the event. Temple university will go ahead with plans to expand its main campus in north philadelphia. Temples board of trustees shared details of their plans yesterday. The project will include a new library in the heart of the campus, a New Science Building and a full city block of green space. The head of construction told us students and staff wanted that open space for a long time. Theres always been a lot of conversation here at temple about the need for having a little more open space on the campus. Were in the middle of a very, you know, large, urban area, not a lot of green space, not a lot of open space for our students. The project is expected to be completed in about four years. They all pretty quickly cleared, and right now were not reporting any accidents on the majors. This is a live look at a quiet blue route out near route 1. You can see things are quiet in both directions. We are definitely seeing some pockets of volume, but really, its nothing out of the ordinary. Drive times about 17 to 18 minutes in both directions between 76 and 95. Speaking of 76, definitely seeing that volume increasing eastbound. This is right near girard avenue as drivers head into center city, philadelphia. And then on the westbound side, right near city avenue, youll notice that yellow light. Thats where we are starting to see that volume building. So, 19 minutes is your drive time westbound from the vine to the blue route, 15 minutes between those points eastbound. Checking some other majors, 95 southbound is slow, 34 Miles Per Hour is the read there. 65 on the pennsylvania turnpike and 55 Miles Per Hour is the average speed on route 422. There are going to be some breaks of sunshine, especially in delaware and south jersey to start with. Were getting a break from the cold temperatures. Its 41 degrees now. With the wind blowing, though, it feels like 32. And thats a strong wind gusting to 26 miles an hour. Its dry right now in the pocono mountains, but well be watching for some snowflakes to develop during the day today. And tonight well see some accumulation in the mountains. 41 right now in philadelphia. The entire areas warm. Look at camden and audubon, right at 40 degrees currently. The temperatures will be Holding Steady during the day. And after some breaks in the clouds to start with, you can see some cloudiness already moving into north to western areas, and this is where were most likely to see showers first develop this afternoon. The grand jury decisions in missouri and new york sparked protests at several universities. And now its sparked the demand of an apology from a Pennsylvania State lawmaker. What a lawmaker did that has some up in arms. And going dark. Say goodbye to the controversial red light cameras in new jersey. When theyll go black and when will they come back . Soon, drivers in new jersey will no longer have to worry about the watchful eye of those flashing red light cameras. Red light cameras at intersections across new jersey are about to go dark. Thats because they were part of a Pilot Program that is running out. Supporters say the cameras reduce accidents and keep people safe, but critics say theyre just used to make money. Now, looking at the camera, its raining out. The cameras not working. If you go into the emails between the township and the police department, theres not wipers on it. If its raining out, theyre not working. If its cold and the front freezes, theyre not working. Its up to each town to deactivate the cameras on their own by next tuesday. After all of the cameras are unplugged, the new Jersey Department of transportation will review the data and submit a final report to the state legislature. Good morning. It is a dry start and a warmer start, but its still windy, and the windchill is in the 30s this morning, even though the temperatures holding in the low 40s. 40 degrees here at nbc 10. Were waiting for snow in the pocono mountains. It t was mix of rain and snow yesterday. There will be accumulating snowfall heading into tonight through tonight into the mountains. The winds are already gusting to 26 miles an hour in philadelphia but stronger in the mountains. Closer to 40 miles an hour this morning. But it is dry and it will stay dry this morning. Its this afternoon that you might need your umbrella once again. Temperatures are at 42 in northeast philadelphia, even allentown, pottstown and reading in the low 40s along with millville and mt. Holly. Each of those locations right at 40 degrees right now. Clouds are overhead. Well see some limited sunshine breaking through the clouds before the clouds take over at noontime with showers developing north and west. And through it all, gusty winds. We have an accident on 95 southbound just past allegheny avenue. The left lane is blocked. Average speed approaching that accident about 6 Miles Per Hour. A little shaky here, but this is that backup that we are seeing on the southbound side right as you approach allegheny avenue, all because of that accident that, again, is blocking the left lane. So, leave yourself extra time there. We also have an accident on 76 westbound just past the conshohocken curve as you approach the exit for conshohocken. And this is the delay that we are seeing continuing to build out there in the last few minutes. So, both of these accidents are really impacting your drive times right now. As youll notice, 95 southbound from woodhaven to the vine, that is about a 40minute trip. Typically at this hour its about 25 to 28 minutes. So, were seeing a big delay there as a result of that accident and then a big delay on 76 westbound because of that crash. So, westbound from the vine to the blue route is going to take you about 30 minutes. Vai . Thank you, jillian. We are following breaking news this morning in northeast philadelphia, where police are hunting for two armed men wanted for a doorstep robbery. Nbc 10s jesse garys live on the scene in northeast philadelphia. Jesse, do investigators have any idea why this victim was targeted . Reporter no, they dont, not yet, vai. And neither does the man who lives inside the house. He had just walked outside. That is the friend of the victim. Apparently, the victim was coming to see that man or they are both headed to Philadelphia International airport when the robbery took place right outside here just steps from the front door. Now, that gentleman you see there smoking, he was inside with his family. There appears to be a wife an an infant, when this all went down. Again, investigators arent sure exactly if theres some kind of business involved in this or whether this is just a crime of opportunity. In any case, the victim, the friend of that gentleman, was standing out here, was robbed of 7,000 cash. And then two armed men ran south on large street towards st. Vincent street and disappeared. Philadelphia police are looking for them right now. There is a Police Cruiser still on the sketreet. They say it will be a little while before detectives get out here, but detectives are headed here to investigate this Armed Robbery. This is a live look at engine 64 in lawncrest, where fallen firefighter joyce craiglewis was stationed. She was an 11year veteran of the department. Nbc 10s Monique Braxton is live at the scene of yesterdays house fire in West Oak Lane, where police have been stationed all morning. Monique, what have you been seeing out there . Reporter well, initially, christine, when we arrived there were two Police Officers here on guard. They have since left the scene. One Police Officer is still guarding the scene. Two investigations getting under way now, one into the safety apparatus that the fallen firefighter was wearing. Was it working properly . A second investigation by the philadelphia fire marshal into the cause of the blaze. Now, overnight, weve been gathering stories about the beloved firefighter who rushed into this house to save an elderly womans life. She was called a firefighters firefighter by commissioner Derrick Sawyer. He describes the 36yearold, joyce craiglewis, as someone who was dedicated to her job, always ready for advancement. She was assigned to engine 64 in lawncrest but was working overtime when firefighters were called to the burning West Oak Lane home. When we stopped by her company, we found black bunting outside. Its also where firefighters and strangers gathered for a candlelight vigil last night. Her colleagues allowed us inside as well to see her locker. Its now a memorial to her life of bravery. She didnt want to let gender get in the way of anything. She wanted to prove the point. Shes received a Unit Citation for efforts at another station where her efforts enabled other residents to be rescued. So, she was an excellent firefighter. Reporter craiglewis leaves behind a teenager and a toddler. The 11year veteran was the first female firefighter to die in the line of duty in the city. She was 1 of 58 female firefighters assigned to the department. The elderly woman who was rescued here is doing pretty well, according to what neighbors are telling us. And heres a closer look at the makeup of the Philadelphia Fire Department. About 1,400 of the firefighters in the city are men, and thats compared to 58 women. Those numbers are from the firefighters union. Nationwide, there are between 200,000 and 300,000 male firefighters and 7,000 women. Count on nbc 10 as we learn more information about the fallen firefighter and the investigation into the fire that killed her. Were posting updates throughout the morning on nbc10. Com. Happening today, a child abuse case heads back to court in Delaware County. Five adults charged with abusing several children in darby borough are set for a preliminary hearing in sharon hill. Authorities say the kids are all under the age of 10. Police arrested the adults last month. Theyre accused of beating the kids, shooting them with bb guns and having sex in front of them. New from overnight, a judge in south africa ruled prosecutors can appeal the Oscar Pistorius acquittal on murder charges. In october, the judge convicted pistorius of the lesser charge, culpable homicide, and sentenced him to a fiveyear prison term. Pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend, reeva steenkamp, in his home. He said he thought she was an intruder. Meanwhile, today in harrisburg, nine judges will hear arguments in the legal dispute between the School Reform commission and the Philadelphia Federation of teachers over the union contract. Back in october, the src canceled the contract and then imposed Health Care Costs on the teachers. The judge temporarily stopped the move. The two sides had been negotiating for more than a year. People in reno, nevada, are bracing for possibly the largest winter storm to hit the area in the past 30 years. Winds are expected to pick up late today and increase tomorrow. Some gusts could reach 90 miles an hour. Snow could fall in Higher Elevations at a rate of about 2 to 4 inches an hour, and forecasters there say there is a threat of power outages. While we wont see a storm that severe here today, though. Yeah, lets hope not. Lets go to meteorologist bill henley now for his first alert forecast. Bill, what can you tell us . Its dry this morning. It is milder this morning, too. The temperatures are up. Look at these numbers, above freezing across the board. Pottstown, wilmington, philadelphia in the 40s. And yesterday was north and west areas that were right at the freezing mark, leading to some icing to start with, but not today. Bluebell, glenside in the low 40s. Go farther inland, you can see a couple 30s. Eagleville is down to 39 degrees currently, but it is bumped up to 40 at the airport in pottstown. Gilbertsville is 41 degrees. So, a much better start this morning. We are seeing clouds start to move back in north and west, as expected. There are some breaks in the clouds in delaware and south jersey, so limited sunshine to start with. The sun is coming up in about a half an hour at 7 11 this morning. The clouds will be increasing as the day goes on. And even though were dry this morning, this is where we will see showers return this afternoon. First rain, and then the possibility of some snow as the atmosphere cools. But ground temperatures are on the warm side, so im not expecting to see any daytime accumulation. Not for most of the area. 42 degrees at 11 00. Philadelphia at 43. And here comes the chance of some showers. Snow showers farther north and west into the pocono mountains, and thats where we will get some accumulation into tonight. We could see 3 to 5 inches in the mountains. Good news for ski resorts. Thank you, bill. 6 40, and weve got an accident in two key spots, 95 southbound and 76 westbound. And thats in addition to the already slow drive times that we see at this time of morning. Lets check in with nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter jillian mele. Good morning. These drive times here are as a result of those accidents and these numbers have increased in the last few minutes. 49 minutes is how long it will take you to travel 95 southbound from woodhaven to the vine. Check it out, 52 minutes 76 westbound from the vine to the blue route. However, i anticipate this number on 76 starting to decrease a little bit closer to reality, which is about 30 to 35 minutes, because that accident actually just cleared off of the highway. So, this is where it was located, on 76 westbound just past the conshohocken curve. And youll notice that whole line of traffic westbound from basically city avenue all the way out to conshohocken, average speeds there about 13 Miles Per Hour, but i mentioned, that accident did just clear. So, thats a good news update there. 95 southbound, though, we have that line of red as you approach allegheny avenue. Average speed 9 Miles Per Hour there, all because of an accident that is still blocking the left lane. And this is that delay that we are seeing on 95 southbound near allegheny. And this is 76. Thats the westbound side right as you approach where that accident scene was located. So, you can see we are still dealing with a delay, but the good news is traffic is starting to move just a little bit once again. The left lane was blocked and now that is clear. Christine . We have an alert for drivers who use interstate 95 in philadelphia. Penndot is closing some lanes today to inspect bridges. The two left lanes will be shut down on the southbound side between Philadelphia International airport and route 420 from 9 00 a. M. To 10 30 and then again from noon to 1 30. Over on the northbound side, the two left lanes will be closed between bartram avenue and the ramp to 76 west from 10 30 to noon and then from 1 30 to 3 00 this afternoon. A Pennsylvania State lawmaker is standing behind his call for penn state universitys president to apologize for making the handsup gesture at a campus protest. University president eric barron was photographed last week when he joined students at a diein protest outside the schools old Main Administration building. The handsup gesture has become the symbol of protests across the country over the killing of black teen Michael Brown in ferguson, missouri. Republican state representative Jerry Knowles says the gesture disrespects Law Enforcement. Psu president barron, though, says he supports Law Enforcement but also supports the students. He said im not making a political statement. Im making a statement about civility. Well, tonight in philadelphia, the power group of leaders will hold a rally for action at new Vision Methodist Church on north broad street. The seven last words of seven black lives events will feature the work of poet laureate sonia sanchez. There will also be sermons and a call for communities to work toward racial justice. This morning, Bensalem Police are working to track down thieves who stole thousands of dollars worth of antique coins. The robbery happened yesterday afternoon at a coin and Collectibles Store on street road. Surveillance cameras captured one man pushing his way behind the counter and then tying up the owner. The other man tied up an employee and a customer. The thieves broke the glass in the display cases, pulled out trays of antique silver dollars and took about 100 coins worth about 5,000. We spoke to the owner, who asked us not to show his face. Really thought for a second, this is somebody thats playing a game on me. But as he pushed me down, i realized, this is not a game. Cameras captured one of the thieves pushing off his hoodie, clearly we veelg his face on camera. Investigators believe the men ran to the back of the Shopping Plaza and hopped into a waiting car. None of the victims were seriously injured. Police in berks county are investigating the discovery of something you dont usually find in the woods. Take a look. A father and son found an atm in a wooded area of rockland township. Now police are trying to unravel the mystery of how the machine got there. Theyre not sure how long the atm has been there or how much money, if any, is inside the machine. In delaware, officials will break ground on the new lewis public robbery. Governor jack markell will be on hand for todays ceremony. The new stateoftheart 28,000squarefoot library is estimated to cost more than 10 million. Much of that money has been raised through public and private donations. Philadelphias Wilt Chamberlain put his stamp on basketball history, and now the post office has put him on two forever stamps. Dramatic skies this morning. Look at this view from center city. Clouds but nothing falling from them. And there are some breaks in the clouds. Well see a little bit of sunshine to start with. 41 degrees in philadelphia. It is warmer, but the winds make it feel like 32 degrees in philadelphia. Winds gusting to 26 miles an hour. Dry at the shore. It is not raining just yet, but later today we could see some rain return to the shore. Its the winds that are steady at 22 miles an hour in the pocono mountains, 20 miles an hour winds in philadelphia, so everyone is feeling the chill. Windchills range from the teens to the lower 30s, but everybody is above freezing with the exception of the pocono mountains. We will see clouds. Theyll be moving back in after the breaks in the clouds this morning. Theyve already started to increase north and west. This is where well be watching for showers this afternoon. And the first rain drops might start falling later this morning. By 11 00, well see some scattered showers in the reading area. Just rain showers for allentown. The pocono mountains will get a mix of rain and snow to start with, but youll be getting colder during the day. 1 00 in the afternoon, rain reaches into philadelphia and wilmington and some steady rainfall even into the Late Afternoon hours. Maybe some mixing of snow showers, but temperatures will be above freezing. Not expecting to see accumulation north and west. That will hold off until tonight. That number is coming down, though. 46 minutes is your drive time westbound from the vine to the blue route because of an accident right near the conshohocken curve that has since cleared. There were not one but two victims in this sidewalk Armed Robbery here in the 7100 block of large street. The gentleman sitting with the white tshirt on says his two friends were robbed out in front of his house. The thieves took not only 7,000 in cash but also their passports. The two men were headed back to Mainland China for a funeral and now dont have passports. Philadelphia Police Detectives are on their way here to help investigate this case. Now, while you were sleeping, weve been gathering stories about the beloved female firefighter who rushed in to this house to save an elderly womans life. 36yearold joyce craiglewis was both a dedicated firefighter and the mother of a teen and a toddler. We stopped by engine 64 in lawncrest, where she was assigned. Black bunting hangs outside. Commissioner Derrick Sawyer tells us the 11year veteran was the first female to die in the line of duty. She was working overtime yesterday morning. Craiglewiss family told us her work ethic was incredible. She often told nieces and nephews she wanted to be a hero, and that is how she died. 1 of 150 women in the nations first organized fire department.
