The rest of 76 is looking pretty good. Northeast extension southbound as you approach quakertown. Disabled tractor trailer there. On the shoulder not blocking any of the lanes on the highway. Chester were dealing with a vehicle fire. Heading to the boulevard right now where were starting to see some volume out there. Right at that intersection. Traffic lights are malfunctioning and, as always, whenever you see that, treat it as a fourway stop and be careful there. Bridges looking really good. This comes after the decision not to charge the Ferguson Police officer with the killing of an unarmed teenager. Ferguson wasnt the only place where protesters took to the steets. Snarled traffic. In the nations capital, protesters gathered outside the white house. Many were College Students or people with the d. C. Ferguson movement. In sanford, florida, where Trayvon Martin was shot and killed in 2012, they held a silent vigil there. In philadelphia protesters marched through center city trying to stop traffic on two interstates and more rallies are planned for later today. We have been monitoring all the froess overnight in the city of ferguson. Chris cato is live in the digital operation center. Chris, some of these images are hard to see. This was exactly the scenario that leaders in ferguson, missouri, had hoped would not happen but werep prepared for i case the grand jury decided not to indict officer wilson. Some of the coverage was hard to turn away from. Police say these protests are much worse than the ones that took place there in august after Michael Brown was shot and killed. Were talking about several buildings. These large buildings just being set on fire. Firefighters not being able to do anything about it, they said. Because they were shot at. Gunshots all over the city and looting taking place wedspread demonstrations and a lot of Police Officers also getting pelted with bottles and Police Cruiser set on fire in one case. A live picture here of one of the row of shops there that was looted. This is video here earlier overnight as police confronted those groups of violent protesters. Youve seen the car set on fire there. Police use tear gas to disperse some of the crowds. They arrested 29 people. And they do say the destruction appears to be worse in what happened in the aftermath in august. Also new information about the confrontation that took place in august when Michael Brown was shot and killed by officer Darren Wilson. According to grand jury records that were released last night and this is very unusual that they released transcripts from the grand jury testimony, but they felt that this was the thing to do in this case. Those transcripts said that wilson told the grand jury that the day after the shooting he told officers the day after the shooting that during the incident, he thought brown was going to kill him. He said, i felt like a 5yearold holding on to hulk hogan. Thats how big i felt and how small i felt. He said brown punched him in the face and he thought brown was going to hit him, again. Thats when he started firing and he said brown kept charngin at him and he told the grand jury he doesnt know how many times he shot at him. That news is one of the elements that sparked the reaction over night in ferguson. Well continue to look at that as police try to get a handle on things happening there in missouri. Many say race played a role and this proves there is a racial divide locally that can cost people their lives. I think the police are the symptom of the racism issue. I think that the symptommatic racism that has been so imbread in all of oour institutions are causing these deaths. What were trying to find is ways to fight the Police Brutality that is the issue of racism. We stopped in as i said yesterday to find customers buying their turkeys, pies and all the thanksgiving extras. Those who work at this Shopping Center expect it to be a hectic place today and then tomorrow before the storm. Theres a Hardware Store next door that is already stocked with salt, shovels and gloves. In fact, we saw people buying salt in between their thanksgiving prep. People will start coming in and getting salt at first and then once they see how much were going to get and start buying shovels. We have hand warmers and everything. Gloves. So, were stocked up. Its not something a lot of people are thinking of, right . No, our mind is all on raking leaves right now. Not snow. And imagine this, there are people out there who tell me theyre looking forward to the Winter Weather and they actually are hoping for a white thanksgiving. This morning, a family has to start planning a funeral for a 4yearold boy killed in a house fire in hunting park. The cause of the fire is unknown. Lying to someone in hopes of having sex with them. No doubt dishonest but if a south new jersey lawmaker gets his way, it could be criminal. The state assemblyman introduced a bill earlier this month to create a crime of Sexual Assault by fraud. If a man or a woman lies about who they are, how much they make to get their date to have sex with with them they could face up to 20 years in jail. A crime crackdown. More than 200 alleged criminals are off the street in pennsylvanias capital this morning. State attorney general Kathleen Kane counted the success of the street crimes unit in harrisburg. The operation began in april and recently wrapped up with a twoweek sweep involving 150 agents from a 150 different Law Enforcement agencies. This Task Force Made 239 arrests and investigated Violent Crimes and confiscated heroin. The unit leaves this fine city in a better place than it was prior to coming seven months ago and there are fewer armed drug dealers and violent criminals prowling the streets and selling drugs to our kids. This was the second operation by the streets crime unit. The first was in hazelton and move to a new city that has not been named just yet. Were watching for some rain showers on beach avenue and inland during the day today. But just some scattered light rain showers. 56 now in philadelphia. Still at 61 degrees in northeast philadelphia. Wrightstown is 60 degrees and northeast philadelphia is cooling down along with south philadelphia. Rocksborough has dropped down to 58 degrees and also 58 right along the Delaware River trail and it is 61 degrees. All in all, nice and mild. Even though were watching rain showers that are off shore right now, this is the system to the south that is going to give us first some rain tomorrow and then snow as the temperatures fall. The future weather showing by 11 00 tonight, well still be well above freezing at 49 degrees in philadelphia and look to 50s to the south and east. The temperatures will be falling into tomorrow morning. 5 00 in the morning, rain and its a chilly rain. 46 degrees at cape may. But dry north and west with with the temperatures in the 30s for allentown and reading. Here comes the rain and then the snow. By 10 00 in the morning, well start to see some snow develop and look at the temperatures. 37 degrees and 39 degrees that is going to be a snow that is falling without accumulation until the temperatures go a bit lower into the afternoon and steady snowfall into the afternoon hours from philadelphia north and west and well produce accumulating snow. Heres one of the models that we look at for accumulation during the day. By 1 00 tomorrow afternoon, we could see two inches in the ground in philadelphia. But mainly rain south and east and four inches potentially by 1 00 in the afternoon for lancaster and allentown and mt. Pocono with the greatest amounts north and west for lancaster and allentown by 7 00 in the evening. Even a chance that philadelphia could be a bit more at five inches. I think its going to be a little lower than that. But a small shift in the track could give even the city more snowfall. So, temperatures today in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. The rain shower today, but the steadier, heavier rain will wait until tomorrow morning. When temperatures will be above freezing. As the day goes on, those numbers fall. Rain changes to snow and by thursday, though, it is done. We will see a cold morning. Anything out of the ground will be stuck at 31 degrees. 42 in the afternoon and even colder on friday with temperatures in the 20s and then into the 30s. But, over the weekend, we will see the numbers go right back up. 43 saturday and near 60 degrees on sunday. And middle 50s a little bit above average for this time of year on monday. Its amazing because this is not unique to this weather pattern is not unique to philadelphia area. The rise and fall in the 24hour period. We do see a lot of variation of the temperature and in what kind of precipitation you get. Like tomorrow well see rain in south jersey and delaware. Hours ago when the worsecase scenario that was feared actually did happen. Riots breaking out. Several buildings set on fire. Police cruisers set on fire. Protesters pelted officers with bottles and they vandalized cars and looted businesses. People say they heard hundreds of gunshots. Look at that advanced alto parts going up in flames. Police using tear gas to disperse some of the crowds. Police say the situation was way worse than it was in the days following the shooting death of Michael Brown in august. Our community has got to take responsibility for what happened tonight. For what happened tonight as far as tearing our community apart. And in an unusual move, the prosecutor released a portion of officer wilsons testimony to the grand jury. In it, wilson describes his encounter with brown saying he was trying to arrest him as a suspect in a recent strong arm robbery when he said brown punched him in the face through the open window of his patrol car and then tried to get his gun. Wilson has never before fired a weapon in the line of duty. He then described shooting brown to the jury. He said, as he is coming towards me. I keep telling him to get on the ground. He doesnt. I shoot a series of shots. I dont know how many i shot. I know i hit him as least once because i saw his body kind of jerk. Then wilson testified that brown kept coming. He fired, again. At this point it looked like he the shots. When he got eight to ten feet away i looked down and remember and all i saw was his head and thats what i shot. He took no photos of the scene of browns killing because he said his camera battery died and he said he didnt take any because he said, it was obvious what had had killed brown and there was nothing to investigate. Officers say 300 very determined center city through penns landing during the Early Morning hours. Were learning from social media that additional protests are scheduled. Al Sharpton National Action network are planning a rally at noon at the federal courthouse over at sixth and market and later in the day, another march here at city hall by Temple University students. A lot of the normal volume were seeing. 26 Miles Per Hour and 35 is the average speed on 95. And then were also starting to see a slow down on the westbound side of the pennsylvania turnpike out near fort washington. 40 Miles Per Hour is what were reading right now. The protests were in response to that grand jury decision that was announced last night, not to indict a Ferguson Police officer in the shooting of unarmed Police Officer Michael Brown. Even though the grand jury didnt indict ferguson the u. S. Justice department launched a federal civil rights investigation that could lead to a separate prosecution and browns family could file a wrongful death lawsuit against officer wilson. The president of a Chester County university is out two months after controversial comments he made about Sexual Assaults. That was dr. Robert genijenn speaking in september. He talked about three case wheres women lied about rape because they didnt like their encounters with young men. Appearing to blame women for Sexual Assault. Dr. Jennings has now resigned. Valerie harrison will serve as the acting president. Archbishop is just back from rome where the pope announced he will be coming to philadelphia. Pope francis made it official last week even though the archbishop says hes known for months that the pope will be here in september. Archbishop says that more than 1 Million People are expected in philadelphia for the papal events next september and philadelphia may be just one of several cities that the pope visits. There is talk and it is just a level of talk now that he may also go to new york to the United Nations and to washington to speak with the members of congress. But the only announcement made was that he was coming to philadelphia. Those are the rumors. The archbishop says the popes advanced team will be here in february and the vatican will release more details about the popes schedule at that time. The temperatures wont come down much more during the day today but tomorrow well see the big temperature fall as rainfall moves in tomorrow morning. In fact, tomorrow morning youll only need your umbrella to start with. As the temperatures get colder, we will see snow developing especially north and west. The future weather shows by 11 00 tonight, well still be mild. 49 degrees with clouds on the increase by tomorrow morning. Here comes the rain, the first rain in delaware and south jersey. Accumulation by the time this was done late tomorrow, were looking at one to three inches across portions of delaware and south jersey. But as you go inland, into the colder air, thats when the accumulation amounts go higher for the northern, western suburbs. Immediate suburbs three to five inches but farther north and west, including portions of chester and bucks county, five to eight inches of snow. Even more in the higher elvagus for the pocono mountains and good news for skiers. For today, though, just clouds and sunshine and a chance of a rain shower.
