We are at fox chases septas fox chase train station and you can see a train here. Really teasing a lot of the passengers, though, they havent opened their doors yet. The septa crew are doing their brake check and just going through the train making sure everything is fine before they open their doors. Its really difficult, i tell you, for people to stand out on the platforms waiting to catch the train this morning. Thats why you have most passengers sitting in thar cars, theyll run out to the ticket machine, get the ticket and run back in their car and as soon as the trains open the door, theyll rush on. We talked to a few just a few minutes ago about how they stay warm. I sat in my car for quite a while and i have three layers of clothes on. And youre still cold. Not yet. I just got out of the car. The coffee works well to have keep your hands warm and goods to have a good head of hair, too. And a good sense of humor. As you can see a lot more passengers coming out and sitting in their cars. Waiting at the bus stop for buses. Earlier there was a septa line that was delayed. That is no more. Fortunately, jillian mele youll tell us if people will have to be standing outside because it is brutal this morning to have to wait inside, wait outside for a septa train. I know, katy, not the morning you want to hear, a delay on your mass transit line and thats what we were dealing with earlier this morning on the thorndale line but service has completely resumed on that line. This is a live look in chester county. Eastbound side of the route 30 bypass out near business route 30. No accidents and no delays to report there. An accident on the northeast extension southbound past lansdale and the right lane still blocked in that area. Hatfield richmond road right at that intersection were told that is a serious accident in the area. So, i gave you two different alternate routes just in case, it depends where youre waking up and traveling Unionville Pike and 309. 309 is fine right now if you want to take that. Heading into new jersey northbound, as you can see from route 55 to the bridges, average speeds in the mid50s. Vai . Jillian, thank you. Hotel guests in Delaware County were forced out of their rooms because of a Carbon Monoxide leak. Matt delucia is live. Matt, just a reminder to all of us, this time of year especially about the dangers of Carbon Monoxide. Absolutely, vai. The guests here are back inside but quite the wakeup call around midnight on baltimore pike. The guests were forced to evacuate immediately because Carbon Monoxide was detected inside the building. We have some video of what it looked like in the past few hours as firefighters vented that gas. The cause was found to be a malfunctioning heater. Now, the readings were high enough to keep all the guests out of the building for a few hours. They were staying at a bar just across the parking lot. And just to give you some idea of where we are, this is right by the concordville inn. Now, fortunately, the Carbon Monoxide was discovered quickly enough so that no one was hospitalized but it is very cold and people are running the heaters and that is a major contributor to Carbon Monoxide leaks. And i have been talking with the philadelphia fire commissioner about this issue. And he says a lot of people just are not ready for this cold weather. A row house fire that spread to several nearby homes and this started just after 3 00 this morning in Strawberry Mansion section of philadelphia. Were told the house where the fire started is vacant and no one has been hurt. It is 6 05 and we continue to follow breaking news out of chicago where a twin engine plane has crashed into a home in southwest chicago. And look at the video. Weve learned the plane left Midway Airport this morning, but reported engine problems and tried to return. Our nbc station in chicago is reporting two people inside the home have been accounted for. Theyre fine. But the planes pilot is missing. Stay with nbc 10 as we continue to gather new details on this breaking situation. Also breaking, worshippers at a synagogue in jerusalem were killed this morning in what the Prime Minister is calling a terrorist attack. Within the last few minutes new video into our newsroom that shows police in a shootout with the two suspects outside the synagogue. You see it there. Police say the two palestinian men armed with knives, axes and guns storm under to the synagogue while worshippers were praying. At least four people were killed and six others hurt. Isra israels Prime Minister is vowing to respond harshly to this attack. Happening today in Delaware County, the man accused of shooting and killing his case worker inside his Doctors Office is set to be arraigned. Richard plotts being held without bail on several charges including murder. Mercy Wellness Center in darby to see a psychiatrist. Plotts got upset about signs prohibiting firearms and pulled out a gun shooting and killing the case worker and injuring the doctor who pulled out his own gun and shot plotts. A community thank you is planned for today for everyone who supported the Pennsylvania State police after the deadly ambush in pike county. Organizers want to show everyone theyre pocono proud. One trooper was killed and another wounded in the september 12th shooting at the bloominggrove barracks. The celebration at Pocono Mountain East Junior High School this morning at 11 00. The school board will meet today. A grand jury called on several members to resign yesterday, though they dont have any authority to make them resign. Heres what it is about. The grand jury was investigating the School Districts former i. T. Director. He was accused of hacking into administrators computers in order to pass along information to the school board. The grand jury found no criminal activity among Board Members but some were willing to overlook it to keep him employed. The pennsylvania gaming control board is meeting to decide if philadelphia should get a second casino. A controversial topic in the city and surrounding suburbs. Jesse gary has been looking in both support and opposition of a second property. Now, jesse, why is opposition stretched all the way to Delaware County . Currently casinos over in fish town, bucks county, Montgomery County and officials down in Delaware County worry adding another player to the pie will mean less for everyone. Any time there is a problem where you have a lane restriction in the area, that is where you can get a pretty significant delay and thats what were seeing right now. Avoid that area, 309 the best bet to get around it. The average speeds on 95 southbound about 31 Miles Per Hour. This is what its looking like and southbound side at cottman avenue. We are starting to get a lot of the normal volume that were used to 76 at Spring Garden street. And eastbound near montgomery drive and center city where it is starting to back up. That is a twoengine plane. Were told its a cargo plane. This is new information from nbc 5 chicago. It smashed into the front of the house. There was an elderly couple inside the home at the time this happened around 3 30 this morning chicago time. The elderly couple is okay, were told. A neighbor actually went in and pulled them out. This is video that was recorded previously of the scene there. The neighbor rescued the couple and they there said to be doin okay. The pilot is missing at this time. Feared to be injured or dead. I heard the plane flying by and then shortly after it was like a loud crash and i didnt feel anything like shaking or anything. But i heard the crash and it kind of woke me up a little more. We got reports from the midway tower that there was only one person on the plane. We have not located that person yet. Part of the plane did crash through the livinginto the basement and were in the process of shoring up the building now to go in and search for the pilot. Did you hear him say into the living room and into the basement. Thats how bad this could have been. Thankfully the couple inside the home is okay, but theyre still looking for it pilot. Again, a commercial cargo plane and were told that the plane left the airport, Midway Airport just after 3 00 this morning and immediately reported engine problems. Tried to turn around and thats when it lost altitude and crashed into that home. Again, the rescue operation going on there as they search for the pilot and secure that scene. The right lane is still blocked and involves a tractor trailer leaking fuel in that area and the delay still about four miles. I want to show you the drive times right now. What our indicators are telling us from lansdale reading about 17 minutes. Im going to bet that will take you longer just because that delay is so long. Looks cold out there for sure. So far not reporting any significant slow downs when it comes to mass transit but the slow downs as you can see on 95. Right near the betsy ross bridge and drive time 27 minutes southbound from wood haven to the vine. 76 westbound side stacking up and eastbound also crawling aalong. Drive times not too bad. About a 15 to 20 minutes that youre seeing between the blue route and the vine and those numbers are definitely going to change. Hatfield, berger road closed because of an accident and these numbers have been changing rapidly. As you can see the drive times southbound on the northeast extension from lansdale will take 30 minutes. A tractor trailer out there blocking the right lane southbound just past that lansdale interchange. Its out there right now and still have a significant delay. Stick to route 309 as your alternate there. Tracy . Back to prison or back to priesthood. Happening today, the pennsylvania Supreme Court will hear arguments about monsignor william lynn. The archdiocese official whose landmark official was overturned last december. Nbc 10 chris cato joins us from our Digital Operation Center. This is the final barrier between him and freedom. Give us the background of this, chris. In 2012 monsignor william lynn became the First Catholic Church official to be charged and convicted of covering up presex abuse. A Landmark Court case that was later overturned. Heres the background. Secretary of clergy of archdiocese at the time. He moves pedophile priests from parish to parish. He was convicted of child endangerment and sentenced to three to six years in prison. He appealed and last december a superior court panel overturned his conviction agreeing with lynns attorney that the states child endangerment statute as it was written at the time did not apply to lynn because he was not a direct caregiver of those children. Now, Philadelphia District attorney Seth Williams appealed to the Supreme Court. Here is what he told me on nbc 10 at issue when he explained why he is appealing. There is no specific statute for Catholic Church official that allows priests to rape children. The statute is endangering the welfare of a child. We charged him appropriately and believe the superior court ruled that he had no duty to protect children. A constitutional right here involved and that is the right to be charged with an offense that actually you committed. And what it is saying not only did he not commit this offense, he legally could not commit this offense. So, thats a preview of the arguments that the Supreme Court justice will hear in harrisburg today. The whole hearing should last less than 30 minutes and we wont hear a decision from the Supreme Court for weeks or possibly months before they issue a decision on that. Now, lynn is not required to appear in court today. Since he was bailed out from prison last december for the last 11 months hes been living in a parish in long crest. The archdiocese providing that housing. You remember the archdiocese posted his bail money. A lot of victims of the sex abuse scandal were upset by that. The archdiocese said if his convic is overturned, he will be given a job within the archdiocese. Live in our Digital Operation Center, chris cato. Meanwhile a philadelphia priest has died while appealing his conviction. Serving a 6 to 12year prison sentence and he died in a Pennsylvania Hospital while being treated for heart problems. A hatboro man accused of sending a greeting card raced with ricin has pleaded guilty. He pleaded guilty yesterday to attempted murder and assault. And now he is accuse of plotting more crimes from jail. Fe first arrested in march after he placed a scratch and sniff birthday card in the mail box of a romantic rival. He tried to get a fellow inmate to retaliation against investigators involved in the case. And he is now facing new charges. And new from overnight, a Carbon Monoxide scare forced hundreds of people to evacuate a Delaware County hotel. This happened around 12 30 the ismo this morning in concord township. Investigators say its because a heater malfunctioned in the basement. Guests were moved to a nearby bar and grill. No one there was hurt. The incident at the hotel serves as a warning to everyone about the dangers of Carbon Monoxide. Nbc 10 matt delucia spoke with the fire commissioner. Matt, you learned a lot of people who have Carbon Monoxide alarms may not have it in the best spot. Yeah, vai. Like with anything, its all about location. But just having a Carbon Monoxide alarm is the first and biggest step. I did sit down with philadelphia fire commissioner derek sawyer. He says many homes are not ready in the event of a Carbon Monoxide leak. Now, we had several incidents of leaks in the past couple weeks, including the one here at this hotel where im at in concord township. Now, the commissioner recommends that you keep one alarm on every level of your home and keep one close to every sweeping area so you can hear the alarm. Another thing is right now make sure it works. The battery is right in here. Right. And you just press and hold this button and you hear that first cheap. Thats triggering the system and then after a while you hear a double beep. And now you know your alarm is still working. And faulty heaters are a big cause of leaks. And the Commission Says a lot of people keep their alarms in their basement. Those heating units. While thats not generally a bad place to keep it, youve got to figure if youre on the second floor of the house and youre sleeping behind a closed door in your bedroom, how are you going to hear that alarm when its all the way down in the basement .
