Nbc 10s matt delucia is there where a crash has taken one persons life, and its certainly going to impact traffic as the morning rush picks up. Matt, what have you learned in the past 30 minutes . Reporter well, chris, right now we are at delsea drive at almonessen, a very busy road in south jersey. Ill get out of the way and show you, in the past 30 minutes, a tow truck came in to take the suv involved in this crash away from the scene, and another tow truck has just backed up here on delsea drive to get the tanker out of here that was involved in this crash. Just to fill you in, an suv about 3 00 this morning crashed into a tanker here on this road. The driver of that suv was killed. The driver of the tanker stayed out here on the scene. Police are talking with that person right now. And you talk about this being a very busy area out here in south jersey. This road has been closed for quite some time. And lets go to katy zachry right now to talk about the traffic implications if you have to head out in this area. What are some alternates . Thats right. As you saw the scene behind matt, a lot of Emergency Responders are out there and it seems like its going to be out there for a while. So, you can take an ad nalt around that. I would suggest it. The best is route 45 or gateway boulevard. Again, this accident has happened on almonessen road right at delsea drive, which is locally route 47. And you can take gateway boulevard around that crash. Also tying things up for drivers this morning, on 76 eastbound moving into pennsylvania, theres a disabled tractortrailer right at conshohocken in the shoulder, but because of the significant fuel spill, its affecting at least one lane of traffic. So, police are out there. Theyre trying to clean up this fuel spill as quickly as possible, because we know this stretch gets particularly jammed. Right now traffic is down to one lane around that. But as you saw, it was not affecting drive times, fortunately, between the vine and 476, but ill keep an eye on that. Route 1 at 76, right as it merges on to 76 west and eastbound is looking good, so no issues to report there. And then taking a look at your speeds on 95 right near allegheny avenue as you head into center city, philadelphia, about 55 miles an hour, which is the average. Were going to see that drastically decrease as the morning goes on. But right now, youre fine headed into center city, philadelphia. And then finally, up in the Lehigh Valley, route 22 at airport road, free and clear of any problems up there. 78 and 309 up in the Lehigh Valley look good as well. 5 33 a. M. Right now. Concerns over a child virus in Mercer County has a School District taking precautions. Now, this comes after a second child contracted enterovirus d68 following the first case that resulted in the death of a 4yearold. Eli waller died last month. The district held a meeting last night to talk about whats being done to protect other students. Officials at Yardville Elementary School are monitoring all cases of respiratory illness, and all surfaces at the school are being disinfected. Meanwhile, the second child is back home and recovering after a stay in the hospital. 5 34 now, and new from overnight, Philadelphia Police are tracking two burglars who broke into this radio shack and stole some phones. It happened just after 2 00 this morning at the store along grays ferry avenue in grays ferry. Ha now, one of the phones is a decoy and is a tracking device. Police say it last checked in near belmar, new jersey. The trial continues today for a Montgomery County man accused of killing a baby and her grandmother in a botched kidnapping attempt. Raghunandan yandamuri is defending himself in that double murder trial. Last week he crossexamined some of the detectives whom he allegedly confessed to. Prosecutors say yandamuri kidnapped that 10monthold girl and killed her grandmother in their king of prussia apartment almost two years ago. Police say he was going to hold the girl for ransom to pay off his gambling debt. The baby was later found dead. A newly released indictment reveals just how far a group of philadelphia ironworkers are accused of going to get work. Now, according to that indictment, the men from ironworkers local 401 called themselves the helpful union guys, or t. H. U. G. S. , for short. Theyre accused of using threats and violence to force contractors to hire union members, including allegedly slashing tires, grabbing rivals by the throat and arson. 8 of the 12 philadelphia ironworkers have now pleaded guilty. The other workers will go to trial next year. A secret service shakeup. The new interim director is set to take over that agency today after several Security Breaches at the white house. This is in westville, almonessen road at delsea drive. There is a crash that involves an suv and a tanker truck. There was a fatality involved in that. So, the Police Investigation is going to be likely throughout the morning. Im telling you that because youre going to want to seek an alternate around that. Prosecutors say Malik Anderson murdered daquan crump because he was angry he wasnt included in the sale of a stolen playstation. Crumps body was found in august of 2013 at a construction site near George Washington high school in northeast philadelphia. Investigators say anderson shot crump in the back of the head, then fired nine more times as he laid on the ground. The time is 5 44. Today in washington, a Delaware County native takes over as the new interim director of the secret service. Joseph clancy, as we told you last week, will head that agency after a series of setbacks and miscues prompted the resignation of the former director. Recently a fencejumping intruder made his way into the white house. He had a knife on him. An armed man shared an elevator with the president. And it was just reported that in 2011, it took secret Service Agents four days to realize a gunmans bullet had hit the white house. Clancy was in charge of president obamas security detail for more than two years before leaving for the private sector. Opening statements are scheduled for today in the trial against a friend of Boston Marathon bombing suspect dzhokhar tsarnaev. Robel phillipos is accused of lying to shorts about being in tsarnaevs dorm room when two other friends removed potential evidence days after the deadly attack. Tsarnaev is awaiting trial on dozens of federal charges and could face the death penalty, if convicted. Three people died. More than 250 were injured in the Boston Marathon bombing attack. The u. S. Aid worker whos being threatened with beheading by isis told his parents he is afraid to die. 26yearold peter kassig of indianapolis was taken hostage in october of last year in syria, where the former army ranger was providing aid for refugees. His parents said they received a letter from their son in june, saying if he does die, they should take comfort knowing he went out while trying to help those in need. The 26th and final playground built in memory of a sandy hook shooting victim is now open in connecticut. Members of the community gathered in watertown to dedicate a playground in honor of dawn hochsprung. The radars clear, but were watching some showers to the west, and we could see those tomorrow. Tomorrow morning will start with more clouds than this morning, and thats going to lead to a warmer start. And clouds will be in and out during the day. Thats 3 00 in the afternoon. Look at the rain north and west. That will start moving in during the evening hours. 7 00 in the evening we could see some scattered showers and a chance of some showers increasing north and west by 10 00 tomorrow night. Of course, delsea drive is very busy as we get into the morning commute stretch. Im going to go into my computer right now and ill give you an alternate around it. So, its best to take route 45 or gateway boulevard around that mess, but as we just learned from our crew at the scene, its likely to be cleared within the hour. But as we take a larger look at the average speeds on some of our majors, 295, 42 and 55, speeds are pretty average for this time of morning. So, thats really the only issue were following, the biggest issue, rather, in new jersey. For pennsylvania drivers, 76 eastbound, you can see that we have two lanes of traffic merging into one right here. This is 76 eastbound as it approaches conshohocken. Theres a push for legislation in pennsylvania that would allow local police to use radar to crack down on speeding. And one Delaware County department is on board. Local leaders will hold a briefing on the topic in upper Darby Township this morning. Now, right now, only Pennsylvania State troopers are allowed to use radar to enforce speeding laws. Also in Delaware County, hundreds of teachers and Staff Members for ridley School District plan to picket tonights school board meeting. The teachers have been working without a contract since june. They tell nbc 10 their main dispute is not about money, but guaranteed preparation time throughout the school day. To berks county we go. Theres been a noticeable increase in the number of young people using ecigarettes over the past six months. This is according to a report in the reading eagle. A Prevention Program manager at the council on chemical abuse in reading told the newspaper that ecigarettes arent regulated like regular cigarettes and tend to attract young people with more than 450 different flavors. Some School Districts in the county have banned the devices on school property. Today in Mercer County, unions and advocacy groups will launch a campaign aimed at getting paid sick time for employees. In the next months election, voters in montclair and trenton will decide if city workers should get those paid sick days. Starting last year, several cities in the state adopted similar laws.
