Once again, hurricane arthur made initial landfall in North Carolina around 11 15 last night. This is what it looked like along the outer banks just before the storm hit. The storm turned up the surf there, sending rain flooding on to the boardwalks there. Arthur is expected to move back over open ocean water and then turn out up the east coast. The approaching storm was not keeping people off the boardwalk in mild wood yesterday evening. It was making them think twice about going into the surf. Its already looking choppy out there. We found one family who steered clear of the water. They tell nbc 10 its already rough. Just took the girls to the water park for the entire day. We did go down to the beach but we didnt go into the water. We walked along the water, just on the edge but not into the water itself. It looked nasty. The weather should be nice at the shore once the effects of the hurricane pass. For now, lifeguards are warning people not to go any further than waist deep into the surf because of strong currents there. You need to be prepared for whatever the day may bring any day. Ten people were sworn in between the game against portland. About 9,000 people across the country will become u. S. Citizens this week alone. New from overnight, one person treated at the scene of this house fire in kingsessing in philadelphia. This happened on the 5600 block. Investigators are still looking for what caused the fire. Also new, people who were forced from their crescentville hotel after a Carbon Monoxide scare have been allowed to return. Dozens of people went to the hospital after the incident at days inn along roosevelt boulevard. The hotel lost power during last nights storm, the staff turned on a gaspowered generator which sent fumes throughout the building. New from overnight, one of the victims in a double shooting in philadelphia has died. It happened on akron street around 11 40. Were working to get more information now on the shooting victims and what Police Believe prompted the shooting. Also new from overnight, a shooting in newtonville, atlantic county, new Jersey State Police are telling us a man was shot several times. It happened around midnight at a home on 9th street near jackson. Were working to find out the victims condition and find out if police have made any arrests. A man is in the hospital after he fell on to the train tracks at 30th street station. Apparently he was getting off an amtrak train, missed the platform and fell five feet on to the tracks below. Well see a rainy, even a stormy start to your morning. As we head into the afternoon and allegation, well see more clearing and the rainfall is due to hurricane arthur, which is a category 2 hurricane right now. Its churning over the outer banks of North Carolina. Your fireworks forecast looks really good. Ill break it down for you. Heres a closer look at hurricane arthur. The wind speeds are sustained at 100 miles an hour. It is moving to the northeast at 23 miles per hour. So its going to stay far off of our shores. We done have the anything to worry about in terms of the hurricane getting that close to us. We are going to continue to see rainfall throughout the Morning Hours and the rip currents will remain as we head into the rest of the weekend. Thats something to worry about if youre heading down the shore. A closer look at the live radar for allentown, also pushing into the poconos, we are seeing more of a lighttomoderate rainfall at this time. You can see it slowly starting to drip closer to the suburb locations to the north and west of the city. As we continue with the Morning Hours we continue with the rainfall and eventually our entire area will see rain as we head into the morning. By the next hour or so, youll notice the hurricane stays to the south of us. It will continue to move up to the northeast staying offshore. By 6 00 a. M. Well start to see more activity develop into central and southern parts of delaware. Were dealing with the lighttomoderate rainfall throughout the poconos and allentown and also parts of reading. Thats closer to 6 00. 7 00, 8 00, more rain expected, especially right along the shore. We see a few pockets of rain, and isolated thunderstorms. As we push closer into your afternoon hours, 12 00, 1 00, 2 00, most of the rainfall continues to push away to the northeast along with hurricane arthur. We are going to see clearing as we head into the later afternoon hours, closer to 2 00, 3 00,c even 4 00, well see a few lingering clouds. Eventually that will clear up. We continue with the windy and breezy conditions as we head into the rest of tonight. Keep that in mind as youre heading out to watch the fireworks. That is good news. We have wet roads, especially in the lehigh valley. This is interstate 78 right at route 222. Use caution. You can see montgomery county, 422, roads are completely dry. It will be different depending on where youre waking up and traveling this morning. I mentioned septa problems. Suspended service on the airport line but keep in mind Shuttle Bus Services operating between 30th street and Philadelphia International. And then we also have suspended service on the wilmington newark line because of amtrak problems. When it comes to mass transit for the day today as you plan your day, septas operating on a sunday schedule. So is new jersey transit. Patco has trains operating every 20 minutes. D. A. R. T. Is not operating, with the exception of resort transit routes. I have those routes listed, 201 to 208 and route 305c beach connection. Thats just as you start to plan your day. Changes are coming in the wake of the 495 bridge shutdown in wilmington. What deldot admits that it did wrong and how they plan to correct the problem. Im first alert meteorologist Brittney Shipp. Youre taking a look at category 2 hurricane arthur that tens to move right over the outer banks of North Carolina. In fact we have a live shot to show you out of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. You can see the rough surf and rain there coming down. Really the eye of the hurricane is just to the east of Kill Devil Hills as it continues to track to the northeast. Chris . Theres a warning for boaters and swimmers this morning. The coast guard is asking all recreational boats to stay off the water this weekend. This is because of hurricane arthur. Theyre also concerned about people wading into the water to watch the storm come through and people who like to surf in the bigger waves. The coast guard is warning against getting into the water because of dangerous rip Current Conditions. Anytime they decide to go out in conditions that we anticipate coming this way, they put their own lives in jeopardy and the safety of anybody that may go out to rescue them. The coast guard as we have emphasized as well say the shore points will feel the effects of the storm in terms of stronger ocean currents. Several homes were damaged when a boat caught fire in atlantic couldnt. Nbc 10 and Egg Harbor Township as firefighters try to get the flames under control there. Investigators are still trying to figure out why the boat caught fire. From our delaware bureau, there are new admissions about mistakes made in response to that tilting 459 bridge in wilmington. Deldots transportation secretary said the state should have closed the bridge sooner. Shalon baht says they initially sent the wrong people to check out the bridge. Baht says since then they have changed policies. We should have been out there the next day to look at this bridge. If somebody calls us, emails us about a bridge, it should be Standard Practice we go out immediately. Officials have also confirmed that a dirt pile next tom columns of that bridge are what caused the columns to shift and tilt, which led to the emergency closure last month. Baht says the company that piled the dirt there did not have permission to do so. This is new video from deldot, the camera positioned on one of the new beams there. Its a support beam that will go into the ground as they repair the new bridge. The bridge is set to reopen around labor day. A lot of drivers will be thankful for that. A stormy start to your morning as we head into your fourth of july holiday for today. Just the first half of your day will be affected as we head into your evening hours, we are going to see clearing. The party on the parkway is safe, also our fireworks forecast looks really good. Ill also give you an update on hurricane arthur and our fireworks forecast depending on where you live. A closer look at where the hurricane is right now. Its moving over the outer banks of North Carolina with sustained winds at 100 miles per hour. It is tracking to the northeast at 23 miles per hour. As we continue to see it moving up to the northeast, were slowly starting to see more of the rainfall push into parts of southern delaware. As we head into the next hour or so, we could see even more of this rainfall in our area. It is going to be heaviest along the shore. Were still going to be dealing with strong rip currents as we head into the rest of the afternoon.
