Within the last hour we learned two people were hurt in this fire in philadelphias hunting park section. One of them is a firefighter. Sky force 10 was overhead as firefighters worked to cotaken contained. Both the firefighter and the other injured person are in stable condition. Others fires to tell you about, sky force 10 live right now over breaking news in bucks county. This is one of several brush fires that have erupted in our area. Today, you see firefighters dousing it with water. This is one along interstate 95. Hill top road. Firefighters, as we said hosing down a smokey area. The fire though is blocking one northbound lane of 95. You see traffic moving along slowly. This fire is close to some homes. But so far, no ones been evacuated. Brush fires also eating up part of the brendan burn forest in south jersey right now. 3 of 5 fires that broke out today are now contained. And they may have been deliberately set. This fire is the largest of a string of brush fires intentionally set overnight. No homes are being threatened here. But it does come on a Red Flag Alert day. And that means conditions are ripe for these kinds of fire. Dry pine needles and higher temperatures combined with windy conditions can carry a single ember to ignite a new set of fires. We have a team out right now investigating these fires. Theres suspicion because there was a series of fires set. And theres no attributable natural cause. Pemberton Township Police sent an alert to residents to let them know smokey conditions will continue. Hot temperatures all helping the flames to spread. And nbc 10 chief meteorologist glenn hurricane schwartz this is a serious situation. Yep, when we get increasingly dry, plus we get the Wind National Weather Service issues a red flag warning. In this case its just until 8 00 tonight because the winds should be dying down. Its through all new jersey and all of eastern pennsylvania. And what it means is that the conditions, of course are favorable. Very dry ground combined with the high temperatures, combined with the low humidity combined with the gusty winds add up to this threat. So lets see how the winds are doing right now. Theyre still blowing 10 to 20 miles an hour in many places but in others its now less than 10. So were already seeing a little bit of the diminishing of the winds. And that, of course, diminishes the fire threat. At least for a while. Temperatures are still above 80 degrees in much of the area even 77 in poconos. Also 77 in wildwood. Cooler right at the beaches at the jersey shore, though. So its warm and windy now, and its going to get breezy and then kind of calm later on tonight. We do have some muchneeded rain in the forecast. Well have the timing on that and even warmer weather than what were seeing now on the 7day in a few minutes. To more breaking news now. Sky force 10 has been over this story for some time now out of lehigh county. Things still not back to normal. Some six hours after this deadly crash on the northeast extension of the turnpike. Only one northbound lane is open right now. Its been that way for a couple of hours. This is near the quakertown interchange. Two trucks collided around noon today. One driver was killed. Traffic backed up for miles. Also tonight, police have charged a mother with trying to kill her baby son. And people tell us it happened right in front of them. Witnesses in allentown on the hamilton street bridge that called for help after seeing the woman throw her 1yearold son into the lehigh river. And the mother jumped in sending police on a frantic rescue. Doug shimell spoke to people who saw what happened on that bridge. But first, doug do we know how that babys doing right now . Yeah, police say that little 1yearold boy is still in Critical Condition tonight. His mother is in jail. She had only been on north hall street in allentown for a few weeks according to neighbors. She was quiet, every time every day, pay for her sons school, day care whatever he was in every morning. But something happened to 19yearold perry. She came back 20 minutes later, got the kid, was walking down the alley. From there, she just kept moving and then didnt see her again. Hamilton street bridge over the lehigh closer to front street, a female jumped over somewhere off the bridge with an infant. Police and witnesses say she had thrown her 1yearold son and herself off the hamilton street bridge into the lehigh river in allentown. Unconscious with a laceration to her head. No location of the baby. Perry was found unconscious under the bridge but no sign of her son. And the cops came out out of breath and said we need everybodys help to look for a baby in the river with an orange shirt. They have recovered child. An officer performed cpr on the child. His mother charged with attempted murder. It breaks my heart. Always does. Perrys neighbors wonder what pushed her to a breaking point. Like two or three days ago, i saw them right here on the stoop. And she looked like she had little issues. She was pacing back and forth. She was having a conversation, i guess, with her baby daddy. Reporter and detectives likely talking to the father of the little boy and anyone else for that matter who may be able to shed some light on why a mother would do this. The former deputy chief of staff Bridget Kelly and his former top appointee at the Port Authority were back in court. Theyre charged in a scheme to close lanes of the George Washington bridge as payback against the mayor who didnt support christie. Former christie ally David Wildstein pled guilty on friday. He admitted he help plot the lane closures in september of 2013. Governor christie has not been implicated in the scandal. But a new poll shows half of new jersey residents believe he was personally involved. And 69 dont think hes been honest about what he knows. Now to the race of philadelphia mayor. Today, nearly 100 fourth and fifth graders got a chance to ask the candidates how they plan to lead the city if elected. Spring garden for the youth mayoral reform. The topics covered a wide range from crime and punishment to police abuse to power, to City Government as well as finances. Fifth grader hill says chronic homelessness is the most pressing issue for the next mayor. Because people need to be cared for and helped and help them to be fed well. Stuff like that. Are Charter Schools leading to resegregation of delaware communities . Critics say a certain policy is keeping minority and lowincome students from getting into these schools. Tim furlong shows us how 5 miles could be having a big impact. The newark Charter School is apparently doing something right. Their test scores are good. And next year theyll have about 3,500 applications for fewer than 200 openings. Some students are going to get in and some students are not going to get in. The question is how do you decide . Well, by current law, because the school is full its allowed to use a 5mile radius for the students. If you dont live near the school, youre not going to get in. Critics say thats not fair for student who is dont live nearby. Its an exclusion of access for children in wilmington schools. Part of the problem is newarks charter sits in the School District which is the only disconnected School District in the entire nation that has schools in newark. They also have schools 14 miles up the road in wilmington. They have grade schools in wilmington, but kids in wilmington go down to high school at glasgow or two other schools down south. Some argue wilmington students arent getting a fair shot then to get into newark charter. Your child should have an opportunity to get into whatever school you want them to get into. They say they dont technically have a connection with the district. And from the beginning, their school was chartered to be a Neighborhood School for kids from all backgrounds. The intent of that 5mile radius reference touzwas to keep parents involved in the schools. The aclu and others argued that some are resegregating by urging potential students out of their Charter Schools with restrictions, family requirements for geography. Right now, new information on a drive by shooting that critically injured a 7yearold girl in west philadelphia. Police say the projectile that hit the little girl while she sat in her familys car was a bullet. The shooting happened saturday night on haverford avenue. Two other children in the car were not hurt. Police are still looking for the shooter. Two delaware teens are still in Critical Condition. Its more than six weeks after a banned pesticide was sprayed at the caribbean resort where they were staying. Shawn and ryan and their parents got sick at a resort in st. John. The parents continue to undergo therapy. The Environmental Protection agency the department of justice and authorities in the Virgin Islands are all investigating. From our south Jersey Bureau Police Officers in Camden County have more work on their hands. Leaders say theyve heard from other towns interested in being overseen by the department. The Camden County force just celebrated the twoyear anniversary last week. Took over policing duties in camden in 2013. You need some wetness on the ground. Very warm start to the week. The heat doesnt help either. And were tracking some thunderstorms for tomorrow when we really need the rain. Weve got blue skies out there, weve had sunshine all day. 83 degrees, the wind 13 gusting to 26 miles an hour. Relative humidity only 21 . Thats another factor. Low humidity. Well, the pollen is plenty high. The wind blowing it around and needing some rain to get rid of it. Tomorrows rain may drop it at least temporarily. And wednesday, and then thursday, it starts coming back up and by next weekend, its probably going to be pretty high again. Were in the low to mid80s across much of the area. A little cooler right at the shore. And its a lot cooler right at the beaches at the shore as we saw earlier today. And i was right on the boardwalk yesterday when it was 80s inland and nice and comfortable. Its 64 in avalon 64 in beach haven. Maybe a little on the chilly side. For some its 83 in woodbine almost 20degree temperature contrast and a very small area. Ocean has quite an affect. Red flag warning less than two hours more of that. New jersey and eastern pennsylvania. When the wind conditions start to go down. A lot of dry air in the east. This is the cold front thats going to be coming in. And theres not much moisture with it at least not today, and were not going to be adding to a lot of moisture partly because the ground is so dry. So its one of those things that drought breeds drought. You get more dry air, you get hotter. Which dries things out, which creates it getting hotter again. It just keeps feeding on itself. So here comes this front and this is about our chance this week to get some rain. By tomorrow morning, not much going on, some clouds coming in with the front, and then right in the afternoon, we get some of the heating. Well be in the 80s. Might see some showers and thunderstorms. But not everybodys going to see it. Could see some leftover showers and a couple of spots that wednesday morning. And then that east wind cools us off for a day. One day. Heres a closer look at that tomorrow afternoon. You dont necessarily see a lot of those bright colors that we often see when were seeing thunderstorms. So theyre kind of isolated as scattered around. Not necessarily expected to be severe. Thats really not a lot of rain to help us out. I mean temporarily, yes, but then its going to heat back up and dry out later in the week. So heres the mild air coming in for a day. And the warm air builds up. As a matter of fact, these warm colors, these oranges, even hotter weather than what were seeing now. So, yeah we could be close to 90 degrees before the 7day periods over. Clear and unseasonably warm tonight, 64 for the low in philadelphia, 56 north and west. Tomorrow, another very warm day temperature a lot like today, but weve got scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms. The wind shifts into the north and the east and that cools us down.
