Well, prosecutors say they have video showing a Police Officer shooting an unarmed man in the back. Tonight, a judge in the harrisburg area is considering whether to release that video. Lawyers for officer lisa murkel were for court today to keep the video under wraps. Shes accused of shooting a man twice in the back as he lay face down. The man died. Video camera attached to the stun gun recorded the shooting in february. Her lawyers say the video could unfairly influence potential jurors. No word yet on whether that video will be released. I think one of the things we need to do first is consult with the family. And they will be in the loop in that decision. I think the last thing any of us want is them to see the video for the first time on youtube. Murkel is free on bail and suspended from the Police Department without pay. The university of Pennsylvania Health system announced today, its acquiring lancaster general health. Lancaster general has three hospitals in the lancaster area along with Outpatient Centers and physician practice. Its the latest expansion for penn medicine. The system acquired two years ago. Vice President Joe Biden visited peco Center City Philadelphia headquarters today. Had he talked about the importance of protecting the Nations Energy system from storms and terrorism. Meanwhile, a fifth day of deliberations failed to produce a verdict in the highprofile trial of a south jersey man, Pedro Hernandez is accused of killing a new york city boy 36 years ago. Hernandez is from maple shade. Today, the jury asked for more testimony to be read back to them. Hes charged with killing patz in 1979. He was 6 years old and became one of the first missing children featured on milk cartons. His body was never found. Pedro hernandez confessed to killing him 3 years ago, but his lawyers say hernandez admission was the raving of a mentally ill man with a low iq. 650,000 thats the payout for a california man seen on video being beaten by deputies after a horseback chase. San Bernardino County announced the settlement today. And doing so it avoids a lawsuit from the man you see falling off the horse here. The deputies then punch and kick the man. Our sister station in los angeles recorded the video two weeks ago. The Sheriffs Department suspended ten deputies seen on the tape. Two Police Officers in texas pulled an unconscious man out of a burning car. Take a look at this. Come on, man come on come on the officers were called to help at the scene of a single vehicle crash. When they got there, they found the driver of the burning suv unconscious, even his clothing was on fire. In the video, you hear the officers telling the man to stay with him as they pulled him to safety. That driver right now is in critical condition. Well, today, nice and dry except for very early this morning. But the rest of the afternoon pretty decent aside from the wind. Now, it will stay windy the rest of this afternoon, winds will be dying down overnight. But then theyll be back tomorrow gusting near 40 miles an hour or so and really the rest of the week is going to stay windy. No word on when she will be extradited. Nbc 10 news. Pennsylvania regulators are calling on philadelphia gas works to replace some of the states oldest gas lines faster. Nbc 10 Investigative Reporter gives us a closer look at a new report just released today. So our investigation started when we found gas leaking on the city streets. We also reported that regulators found as many as 7,600 total leaks in 2014 and 3,500 of those were hazardous. As of today, the Public Utilities commission has issued a 93page report calling on the philadelphia gas works to free up money and speed up pipe replacement. The seven recommendations to pgw improve Cash Management consolidating facilities and issuing new debt. Some of the recommendations, they would require city council approval. Pgw is the largest cityowned utility in the country. It has an 88year replacement plan for its gas mains but is on pace to replace more than 1,500 miles in the next 66 years. At this point, these are just recommendations. These are not legally binding. The regulators say 2 3 of pgw system are iron cast iron unprotected steel mains. The report also says that this highrisk pipe poses a potential threat to life and property. Nbc 10 news. Pgw sent us this reaction. The response reads in part pgw welcomes genuine dialogue that seeks to improve the way our infrastructure programs proceed and is highly motivated to continue discussions with staff. There is no increased risk, period. They studied more than 95,000 children. Some were already at risk for autism because they have older siblings with an autism spectrum disorder. Despite that increased risk getting the mmr vaccine made no difference in the expected autism rate. The doctor at the hospital in cleveland says the new research may comfort parents who still question the safety of vaccines. This kind of paper will contribute to providing useful information for people coming to an appropriate decision about vaccinating their children. The vaccine is more than 97 effective in preventing measles. Concerns over autism have led to declines in rates. People infected with measles during the recent outbreak in california had not been vaccinated. Many experts said Autism Research should stop focusing on vaccines and target the real causes of autism. And by tomorrow were going to see some of this rain moving that you see off to our west. For tonight, though well be staying locally dry. So we wont worry about the storms tonight. Could see a few sprinkles pass through areas north and west Lehigh Valley poconos, its tomorrow were watching. 8 00 tomorrow morning, we should be fine. Temperatures warm near 70 degrees by 1 00 in the afternoon. We could see a line of showers, possibly some thunderstorms moving into the Lehigh Valley. Poconos, chester, also burkes county, and this could be moving into the philadelphia area by about 2 00 p. M. And sliding into new jersey and delaware right around the evening commute. So by 4 00 p. M. I think a majority of this could already be leaving the area new jersey and delaware mainly by 6 00 p. M. , kind of just meandering offshore before we clear out later tomorrow night. It will be a windy day tomorrow. Winds gusting near 40 miles an hour. With any storms that we could see storm, the high wind is going to be the biggest threat aside from the storms its already going to be windy anyway. So we will certainly be watching that. Everything else looks relatively low. Any showers or storms should be moving pretty quickly for any heavy rain too. For tonight, though, clear and colder, winds diminishing, overnight, 49 for the low in philadelphia. Then tomorrow, and again, a windy day, winds gusting higher than they were today. And then after tomorrows rain take a look at the high temperature, 56 degrees thursday and friday friday morning well be waking up in 30s. New information about a coyote attack in north Jersey Police say theyve captured the coyote that launched at a man walking his dog sunday afternoon. Tonight, while the neighbors are still on alert. Authorities have found two coyote dens near a school. And there are reports of yet another coyote sighting in the area. Gus rosendale reports. Reporter here in norwood, a sort of coyote curfew remains in effect. Now were getting a look at how close they came to the school and how thats changing life around here. The eighth grader showed me the location of the latest coyote sighting in this town right on the front of Norwood Public School just before classes started this morning. And its why he says he will carry a bat when he walks his dog tonight. Youre walking your dog while carrying a bat . Yeah. So my friends are walking a dog, carrying a knife. Viewers sent us these photos showing the bold trip. Parents and kids are now on alert. This is the first time we told them theres a place you can walk and a coyote might be there. Youre a little scared . Yeah im scared. Monday night, police captured and killed one coyote that bit a neighbor near summit street. But two coyote dens have also been found near the school. Traps are set and students are being kept inside. No activities outside during the school day, lunch recess which is hard with kids if they want to unwind. No after School Activities with the athletics. Police say the coyote killed monday night showed aggressive behavior, a sign of rabies. Testing is still underway. But for now, no one is taking any chances. Its kind of a little nerveracking when youre out walking a dog, for the most part youre okay. A school bus crash, short time ago, nbc 10 learned the driver knew he wasnt feeling well just before the bus slammed into a house. Were told the driver called a supervisor and said he was having a medical emergency. Moments later, the bus skidded out of control. The driver has been rushed to a hospital. All 12 students onboard are safe. Also this evening, new treatments to fight cancer could soon help someone in your life. You need all hands on deck to take on the cancer problem.
