Kids at friendship elementary started boarding buses before 1 00 and were sent home. When you talk to most School Superintendents they say snow before the start of the school day, its an easy call to send kids home. At the end of school day, they dont want to risk straning them so they decided to put them on buses. Almost every School District in Chester County opted to sent kids home early, with the exception of the phoenixville School District. But for those hitting the roads to get home during rush hour a growing sense of dread as the streets start getting slick. People have to learn down take your time. After turning down an earlier plea, and not to mention serving as his own attorney did he talk after the verdict . Reporter no he didnt talk about the verdict that we were able to hear when he came out. It was crowded and noisy around him. He seemed to be humble. He was led away in handcuffs. He did say, i appreciate the support i got from the community. He also went on to say that he appreciated the way the media acted so professional and did vow to make himself a better person and to stay sober. Deliberations, as you may remember, started yesterday afternoon. The jury could not reach a verdict yesterday. They came back today and deliberated for four hours before finding him guilty of stealing 341,000 bogus travel sports packages. After the verdict was delivered, we did talk to the attorney who was helping him with his defense and the prosecutor. A tragic case. Mr. Tollefson was a good and decent person who attempted to do too much. His goals were to help the city kids. Very satisfied. Mr. Tollefson is done talking and time for him to start serving and paying his debt to society. Reporter the prosecutor also went on to tell us that he wants to make sure tollefson serves more than the two years, which he would have maxed out on on a deal the prosecution said they had offered him. They also hope that after whatever time he gets he has a very long parole because they want him around to pay back the restitution. Reporting live in doylestown Harry Hairston nbc10 news. Nbc10 is following a developing story involving pennsylvanias top Law Enforcement official. A grand jury recommends charges be filed against state attorney general Kathleen Kane. Nbc10s Deanna Durante obtained court papers that shows its now up to a local d. A. To decide if she will prosecute her. There were no crimes committed, no documents leaked and i went in and told exactly that. Reporter but a grand jury says attorney general Kathleen Kane did not tell the truth. Its recommendinging perjury, obstruction and oppression charges against her. Im not concerned about anything. I went to the grand jury voluntarily, under subpoena but i went. I didnt have to. And i made sure i told the truth. Reporter according to the 93 doumentsz sealed today, a special prosecutor was assigned to investigate. The probe was ordered for qane to testify under subpoena. The judge in the case accepted the recommendation of criminal charges against kane. Thats a huge development. Reporter we asked a bucks county lawyer who ran grand jury cases for 20 years to look over the documents. He has no connection to the kane case. 12 citizens who have no axe to grind decided that she did lie. Reporter she told us at a south philadelphia News Conference shes done nothing wrong. That unsealing shows that there was nothing done wrong. That special prosecutor looking for leaks from my office in a grand jury didnt even find them. Reporter the attorneys there is no specific charge for leaking grand jury material but he says kanes interpretation is not the same as his. Activists are speaking out about this. Tell us what theyre saying. Reporter i can tell you that civil rights activists are saying this video speaks for itself. They are calling the shooting death of reed unjust. As most Law Enforcement officials i spoke to today, they didnt want to touch this issue at all. They said the assistant prosecutor will conduct a full and fair investigation partially. Activists today also blasted bridgetons mayor saying he needs to step up to bridge the gap between police and the public. The mayor didnt respond to our calls and emails for comments about that or the dash cam video. Now the Police Captain who talked to me today says all a Police Officer needs is imminent fear that his life is in immediate danger in order to use that deadly force. New information about a wrongful death sult filed in connections with the crash that seriously injured comedian tracy morgan. The family settled the claim with walmart. The amount of the claim is confidential. Mcnair died when a tractortrailer slacked into his limo last year. Mcnair was riding with morgan and others back from morgans show in delaware. Morgan suffered a traumatic brain injury. Criminal charges against the truck driver are pending in state court. And according to the criminal complaint, he was operating the truck without sleeping for more than 24 hours. Two philadelphia Police Officers rushing a shooting victim to the hospital ended up in the hospital themselves after their cruiser was hit by a car. Investigators say the officers were driving into the intersection of 25th street and lehigh avenue with lights and sirens on when another car hits them. Then they slammed into a second car. The officers shooting victim and two unlicensed drivers all in stable condition. Well, yet another candidate has dropped out of the race for mayor in philadelphia. Ken trujilo announced his decision this afternoon. The federal solicitor and federal prosecutor got into the race last september. He said hes saddened by the decision but in a statement he said, quote, there are Family Matters that require my full attention. Trujillo is the second candidate to drop out of the race. That leaves ab hams diaz oliver street and Anthony Williams in the democratic primary. Mayor nutter cannot run for a third term. Vice President Joe Biden says he feels safe in his delaware home despite the fact someone fired shots nearby over the past weekend. Still, Law Enforcement authorities strengthened security at bidens greenville home. Someone fired several gunshots speeding by the property saturday night. The Vice President and his wife were not home at the time. What they established is someone going by at a fairly high rate of speed shot four shots, probably in the air. Im not worried about it. He says he has plenty of time between now and this summer to make a final decision. Were tracking snow moving in over your evening commute. This is a first alert weather day. We to want make sure everyone stays safe over the next couple of hours. Atlantic city started off with rainfall. The last 30 minutes or so it switched to snowfall. A wintry mix in certain areas here. If we take a closer look at i95 corridor, were seeing snow come down at a steady rate. As we push into the next few hours, well be dealing with that. Heres a closer look at the i95. You can see its backed up here and snow is coming down. We have decreased visibility so this is a bad combination over the evening commute. You just have to take your time to get where youre going because this is at least going to last for the next few hours or so. In delaware were mainly seeing snowfall as well in the northern and central parts of delaware, pushing into dover. Were seeing more of a moderate snowfall moving in. Its tracking to the northeast, pushing into parts of millville. Thats where were seeing some of the heaviest snow coming down. Its a light snowfall for reading, allentown pushing into poconos, lang caster county. At camelback, you see the flakes continuously coming down. Heres what you can expect county by county. Poconos, Lehigh Valley through 6 00 were dealing with scattered light snowfall throughout pottstown, 30 degrees. Any snow coming down will be sticking to the road. Have you to be careful in that area. By 8 00 well start to see some snow. This particular area tapering off by 9 00 looks like were in the clear. Whatever leftover moisture we have, you can see temperatures will be below freezing. The possibility for patchy black ice will be there. If youre closer to the i95 corridor by 5 p. M. Temperatures dropping below freezing. Any snow coming down is going to be sticking. That means slick roads ahead for us by 6 p. M. Still dealing with the snow moving through parts of northeast philly stretching into pottstown by 8 00. Well start to see the snow tapering off. We at least have the next couple of hours where were dealing with the snow moving into our i95 corridor and throughout most of the highways just as people are trying to get home. So, the timing of this system is not the greatest. For delaware and right along the shore, this will be one of the last places we start to see the snow tapering off. Through the 9 00 hour, were dealing with a wintry mix and snow coming down. Temperatures just at freezing for millville. What that means is we could see the patchy black ice in that region again, as soon as the snow clears up. These are the concerns were watching for you as we head into the next few hours. Our visibility is down. Down half a mile from millville. Threefourths of a mile from dover. This is a first alert weather. Low visibility slick roads, bridges, overpasses even parking lots. Our snow forecast shows a trace to 2 inches for parts of the poconos and Lehigh Valley. If youre closer to the suburbs were thinking 1 to 3 inches. Some heavier amounts will be closer to dover, 1 to 3 inches. Were calling for a trace of 1 to 2 inches along the shore. Half an inch in parts of delaware like dover. As we head into your weekend, the next thing well be tracking is another chance of snow as we head into saturday but your sevenday forecast shows that our temperatures as we push into the next couple of days will stay at 40 degrees. The heaviest snow is in south jersey but the i95 corridor where were seeing steady snow come down along 95. The reason why, as we head into the next couple of hours, our temperatures have dropped below freezing. Anything coming down is sticking to the road. Thats a concern for us. The timing, just as everyone everyone is leaving work and trying to head home so theres no way around it now that the snow has started. This will continue for the next few hours. If we direct your attention down to south jersey, along the shore, even for Atlantic City where we were seeing rain its starting to switch to a mix. Most of the area even down in cape may along the shore is dealing with snowfall at the time. Some heavier snow bands are to the north of millville. To the south of Camden County if we zoom into dover, an inch and a half has fallen so far in the central parts of delaware. We do have more snow on the way. 1 to 3 inches its not a whole lot of snow. Its the timing. Its the fact its coming down over the evening commute. Once we get rid of the moisture well see our temperatures dropping below freezing. Well see some moisture refreezing so patchy black ice will be the next concern. Fy break down the commute four well explain whats going to happen as we head into your 7 00 hour. For reading, still dealing with snow. Allentown along the i95 corridor even at 7 00. By 8 00 same thing. Starting to taper. Just light snow for philadelphia. A closer look at what we can expect. Not too much snow coming down looking south, but the visibility is pretty bad. You cant see but a quarter mile ahead of you. We have been following salt trucks so theyre out on the road. Penndot crews and contractors. A fun fact, so far this year penndot has used 25,000 tons of salt. Last year this time they used 125,000 tons. Thats how much of a different winter were having. Were about to get on the 476 northbound to check conditions there, but right now i95 is moving pretty swiftly but the visibility is bad. Thats some of that delay were seeing out here right now. If we take a look elsewhere, you will see snowy areas, in delaware, the dover area. Its hard to see on this camera but there is still some snow falling around there. Take it easy you will see limited visibility as you make your way throughout our area. As we take a look also in delaware, you can see out here that is just really tough to see. That is along interstate 495. If we take a look at the area here, on that radar, can you see all of that snow falling along the delaware area in New Castle County. Take it easy as you travel along. Witnesses found the baby on fire late friday night in the middle of the rural section of road in pemberton township burlington county. They say the babys mother was holding a can of wd40 and had a lighter in her jacket pocket. Authorities charged that mother. Shi did not enter a plea yesterday. 22 arrests and nearly 2 it million worth of drugs off the street. Dozens of Law Enforcement agencies from across pennsylvania teamed up to bust what they call a major drug ring based here in philadelphia. Authorities say 59,000 oxycodone pills were bought using forged prescriptions. The attorney general says the Prescription Drug problem is hurting pennsylvanias children. They get the pills from their parents medicine cabinets go to a pill party, put them in a hat. No one knows what theyre taking and then theyre hooked on oxycodone. Officials say the drug ring operated in 44 counties across the state. From our Delaware Bureau a library in new casting county got a helping hand from some inmates as part of the prison systems work release program. Inmates helped the library set up for their annual sale by moving more than 60,000 books into the local fire hall. The Library Calls it a winwin.
