January. The future of revel is uncertain. Revel is in the middle of its second bankruptcy filing. Earlier it warned workers that it could close by the end of the summer if a buyer wasnt found. The ripple affect of the closing casinos is being felt across the resort town. Matt, what did the mayor have to say about the future of the gambling city . Reporter quite simply, he says the focus now really does have to shift away from just gaming toward other ways for this city to make money. As you can see behind me, there is still some construction out here. There is a lot more building. Is it really enough . I dont think theres a single casino in Atlantic City that thinks they can exist any more strictly as a casino. Reporter the mayor insists that should come as no surprise as gaming revenues continue to drop. But adds he feels sad for the 2,000 workers at showboat who will be out of a job. While we may lose casino jobs, we will gain the jobs not only constructionwise all around town in the roads that were ripping up, in the lights that were replacing, but the permanent jobs. Reporter if revel shuts its doors also, that means more than 5,000 workers will be unemployed. I asked the mayor what happens to them. Are there enough jobs in Atlantic City to accommodate these people . As time plays, the answer is going to be yes. Its going to be tough times as we make the transition. The jobs we need to create is outside the gaming market. Reporter the mayor says the Bass Pro Shop here under construction is one example of what. As for the projects under way right now, the mayor says they can fill over 700 openings, which is far short of the 2,000 now preparing to leave the showboat. Are there too many casinos here in Atlantic City as it is . Im taking that question to someone who has taught gaming and hos pi talt for more than 40 years. That is at 5 00. More casino news. This week in delaware, state senators approved a 10 million financial bail jut for the casinos. They say they are struggling with competition from neighboring states and they have to share too much of their revenue with the state. The bill has the support of the governor. Its awaiting house approval. In pennsylvania the news not so bleak. Gambling revenue last year in pennsylvania was second only to nevada. Two more casinos are coming to the state. Philadelphia and lawrence counties are each in the process of granting a new license. Sugar house sued to try to stop another casino coming to philadelphia. The lawsuit was rejected last week. It was a lot worse on the ground for thousands of drivers stuck behind a rolled over u. P. S. Truck on i95 south near 141 to new castle. It happened at about 4 00 this morning. U. P. S. Tells nbc 10, we care deeply about the safety of our people and the public we serve. The cause of the accident on i95 is under investigation by our safety team. It may be several days before we know what caused the crash. Delaware state police say they know what caused the crash. They say 45yearold phillip bates, the guy in charge of driving the rig, they say he fell asleep at the wheel. He has been charged with inattentive driving. Truckers say even though they are under pressure to get the job down, falling asleep sin excusable. That could be my child. That could be my grandkids, anything. A trucker, if he dont get the right rest and he dont do the right thing, you know what im saying like his [ bleep ] up. Reporter the rules for truckers are strict about how many hours they can drive before they rest. We are trying to see if this adriver was allowed to be on the road. A judge denied a bail reduction request for the two men at the center of the Building Collapse in philadelphia that killed six people. The contractor and a machinery operator both facing third degree murder charges. Authorities say both men were reckless in the demolition. Lawyers say they will subpoena the developers and city inspection officials who they claim are just as responsible for the tragedy. New team for the Fire Department. He was sentenced to nearly five years in prison after he was found guilty in february of bribery, fraud and extortion while he was in office. He was busted in a government sting. Philadelphia Police Say Two men held up a 99 cent store. They pointed a gun at one employee. When a second worker tried to step in, one of the guys assaulted him and pushed him to the ground. He will answer these charges in court on all 18th. Earlier this year, a judge denied his request for a courtappointed public defender. Reporter when the commissioners in decided a couple years ago it was not a core function to fund Nonprofit Community groups, well, officials here say this is the reality of that decision. They look through the fence and talk about their pool in the past tense. I was sad and angry. Reporter why . Because i always used to come to this pool. It was really fun. We used to swim and stuff. You know . Reporter this 54yearold pool hasnt missed a summer until this year, a victim of budget cuts. The commissioners in decided that 19 nonprofits should be taken from the budget to help them balance their budget for the county. Reporter they say they had enough money to get through 2013. But this past winter damaged the pool beyond what they could afford. So it sits empty. We have seven kids that need a Swimming Pool on a daily basis. What is summer without swimming .
