Reporter neighbors living on this quiet culdesac are coming to terms with the shooting death caught on video thats hitting close to home. To think somebody out of this neighborhood could do Something Like that. I just dont understand. Reporter hell ga and larry say the South Carolina officer who pulled the trigger grew up on their block and went to high school with their daughter and son. The Michael Slager seen in this video shooting the unarmed walter scott running away is not the man they remember. I remember michael as a very nice boy. Very nice. Went to school here. Knew my children. Reporter slagers former childhood friend told us as fellow coast guardsman and classmate, its hard to see. Not only as a cop, but a veteran, we hold ourselves to a better moral standard of behavior. Slager told his lawyer he felt threatened. But after the video surfaced the 33yearold was arrested fired from the force and let go by his lawyer. Its a shame what happened. Reporter neighbors say slagers stepmother is a child advocate who moved from the neighborhood just two years ago. Denise nakano nbc 10 news. Tonight Philadelphia Police commissioner Charles Ramsey is calling the video shocking. The Police Commissioner is leading president obamas task force on 21st century policing. The goal of the task force, to build more trust between police and community, minority communities. He explained to nbc 10 just how much policing has changed in the past few years. In todays world with social media, and how fast things spread you know the fact that now you have not just a story being told but youve got video to go along with it i mean certainly it does add to the environment that were in right now. Commissioner ramsey believes the authorities in North Charleston acted quickly and appropriately in charging the officer with murder. Jurors in the boston bombing case will be back next week to decide between life and death for dzhokhar tsarnaev. Today they found him guilty on all 30 counts. The jury of 7 women and 5 men deliberated for just over 11 hours before reaching the guilty verdict. Family members of the victims and survivors of the blast listened inside the courtroom. Obviously grateful for the outcome today. Not a happy occasion but its something that we can put one more step behind us. During the penalty phase, tsarnaevs defense team will likely expand on the message that tsarnaev was pulled into the plot by his older brother. The philadelphia woman accused of trying to join the terror group isis is expected to face a judge tomorrow. Thomas is scheduled to appear in court for an afternoon hearing. She was arrested last week and Authorities Say she was trying to travel to syria to join isis fighters. Right now thomas is being held without bail. She could face up to 15 years in prison. New at 11 00, were getting our first look at the 1yearold boy found safe after a threehour kidnapping and chase across the city of philadelphia. Police say the boys 14yearold cousin swiped him from his kensington home drove for hours, and picked up a friend before the pursuit ended in north philadelphia. Nbc 10s spencer was the first reporter on the scene this afternoon. George, Police Tracked the stolen car the entire time. Reporter yeah jacqueline block by block, and minute by minute, were told that the teen originally took off from her familys home in her uncles nissan altima. An onstar system that had been installed at the top of the windshield in that car ended up tracking her every move. In the arms of a police officer, early tonight this 1yearold boy was finally safe. Likely unaware of his ordeal. Police say a 14yearold cousin abducted him this afternoon and took off in this car for a threehour ride across the city. Shes only 14 years old. She cant have a drivers license. Reporter investigators tell us it began around 2 30. The 14yearold girl allegedly rushed in took the baby and then stole her uncles nissan max i ma. For the next three hours the Police Tracked her on gps driving across the city from kensington to west philly and back at some point picking up an 18yearold companion. Covered half the geographical distance of the city with this 1yearold baby boy in the car. Reporter around 5 30 with police on their tail the pair ditched the car here and took off, carrying the baby through this alley. Police say a block away on north 16th street they ran up to the first person they saw outside, a complete stranger handed off the 1yearold to that woman and then forced their way inside her home. Ultimately police say thats where investigators found the pair. Both the 14 and 18yearolds were taken into custody, and they are still being questioned here at east detectives. So far police cannot explain their motives. As for the 1yearold boy, im told he was not injured and has been reunited with his mother. Live in hunting park george spencer, nbc 10 news. New at 11 00, a Chester County School Bus Company said a driver who left a 7yearold child alone on a bus for hours is no longer working there. The School District said police are investigating. The driver picked up the 7yearold the morning of march 31st. The child was the only passenger on the bus. Instead of taking the student to school, though the driver went to the bus yard and left the child onboard. The student was found unharmed five hours later. The School District sent a letter home saying it is dismayed and disgusted. From our Delaware Bureau tonight, a kent county man is now indicted for murdering his wife, even though her bodys never been found. Delaware state police say cortez hamilton intentionally killed his wife with a hammer in front of their two children. An amber alert was alerted for keisha and her children after they disappeared. Cortez was arrested the same day in indiana where he was found with the children. No sign of keisha hamilton though. At the time of her disappearance, neighbors told authorities the couple had domestic problems. Two cars ran off the road and into the trees in voorhees. One victim went to Cooper University hospital. No word yet on the cause, or if rain played a factor. In philadelphia three people sent to the hospital after they were hit by a car late this evening. The victims were walking across the street at 5th and Spring Garden when the cars hit them. Two adults and a juvenile were hurt. Theyre expected to survive. And police are interviewing the driver. New video into nbc 10 of a water main break in new york citys greenwich village. It disrupted subway service. This is Instagram Video of it flooding the station. Officials say about 500 passengers had to be removed from trains that became stuck in the waters. They believe crews working on a separate utility issue may have hit a water pipe causing the break. Not clear why the vote was canceled. The proposal would have designated the showboat as a redevelopment zone so it could not be used as a casino. The trump taj mahal is blocking the conversion to a campus. Two players are being investigated for an assault earlier this year. Those players grew up here in our area. Phoenix police say morris and his twin brother marcus were among a group of five people who attacked a man outside a Sports Complex in january. Its important to note neither player has been charged with a crime at this point. But investigators say the alleged victim eric hood is a talent scout who mentored the twins in philadelphia. They say the beating was over Text Messages that hood sent to the twins mother. Police say the man accused of shooting his father along the schuylkill expressway last night was headed to a rehab facility. Nbc 10 was there as corbin walked into court this afternoon, held on 500,000 cash bail. Police say corbin confessed to shooting his father albert in the face but claims it was an accident. Police say corbins parents were driving into rehab just before 6 00 last night when he began to argue with his father and allegedly shot him. Police say albert corbin is expected to survive. The mother was not hurt. President obama is calling for an end to socalled conversion therapy. The psychiatric treatment aimed at changing the Sexual Orientation or gender identity of gay, lesbian and transgender youth. White grabbed for the officers gun before the camera started rolling. Theres one video out there, i havent seen it yet personally, but you can actually see Phillip Whites hand on the officers weapon. Reporter he said this video shows white resisting officers and awaits the toxicology report. I expect it to state that mr. White unfortunately had ingested pcp along with cocaine and a mixture of other drugs which actually caused or contributed to a cardiopulmonary event causing his death, not the Violent Police officers. It looked at accusations of racial profiling. They were sparked after two black men were stopped for shoveling a driveway in january. Police say they do not profile based on race but admit that more discussion needs to happen. The police and Community Relations committee will continue to meet monthly. Chester county investigators are looking for any other possible victims after a local deejay is charged with sex assault and child more than possession. Daniel milowicki worked at weddings and childrens parties. A model came forward after being lured to his home. Instead of a photo shoot, the woman was forced to have sex on video. Police searched this home and say they found hundreds of child porn images and upskirt videos. They say the deejay used his job to prey on victims. The evacuation of nearly a dozen horses. Fire crews were called to 39th street this afternoon. The horses are okay. And care and control says it didnt know there was a stable in the neighborhood.
