Police are invest gaiting whether the victim could have been fleeing from an armed robbery. At the scene, police say they found a mask and a gun, which both match the description given by the robbery victim. According to police, two men armed with guns one of them wearing a mask held up a pizza delivery worker on nearby tampa street. Detectives are now looking into this possible connection between the two crime scenes. A man who crashed his car in the citys lawn crest section is in stable condition right now. A woman who was a passenger in the car is in critical condition. The accident happened around 3 00 this morning. According to police at the scene, the car was speeding when it went through a backyard hit a column on the porch of the house, and then flipped over. The crash is now under investigation. This morning, we are following a developing story. Right now the search from the air is suspended for the missing airasia flight because of darkness. Its nighttime in the search zone. The plane disappeared with 162 people onboard. It took off from indonesias surabaya airport and was heading to singapore. Nbc 10s matt delucia is following this mornings developments and is live in the digital operations center. Whats the airline saying this morning . Officials and the airline say they are very concerned right now. It has been more than 12 hours since airasia flight 8501 went missing, and hundreds of rescuers have been involved in the search efforts so far. Take a look here. We have a live picture from the singapore airport. This is where families have been gathering all night and all morning, waiting for updates from authorities. Airasia says the flight lost contact with air Traffic Control just before 7 30 last night, eastern time. Among the 162 people onboard, there are 155 passengers none of whom were told are americans. This plane is an air bus a320. The pilot had asked to change course due to bad weather. Officials say the air space was possibly thick with dense storm clouds strong winds, and lightning. Take a listen here. An aviation expert explains what pilots experience in those conditions. Normally they divert go around the storm, and carry on. It will delay the passengers somewhat, but the ride will be a lot easier. Unfortunately, this seems to be a series of red dodges on the map. The pilot was bound to encounter one or the other. Investigators have not found any wreckage in that case, but they think that that plane crashed somewhere in the indian ocean. Some call the disappearance of that jet one of modern aviations most perplexing mysteries. Ships and helicopters are taking part in a rescue at sea happening off the greek island of corfu. The greek coast guard now says that theyve rescued about 150 passengers, and at this point, there are no reports of any injuries. Here are some photos from the scene. The ferry was headed for italy when the fire broke out on the car deck. Some of the ships have run into a little bit of trouble because of rough seas. Thousands of Police Officers including members of Law Enforcement from pennsylvania new jersey and delaware gave a final salute to one of the two nypd officers killed in the ambush in brooklyn. A gunman shot officer rafael ramos and his partner wenjian liu while they sat in their patrol car on december 20th. The gunman, whom police say was seriously troubled then killed himself. Yesterday, beat cops park rangers and jail guards and trait troopers from coast to coast gathered at a church in queens, new york, for ramoss funeral. His casket was carried past a sea of salutes. Tributes continued inside the church for more than an hour starting with Vice President joe biden. For the ramos family, we are all lucky to have rafael. He didnt just have a bible in his locker, he lived it in his heart. He was a cop for all, all the right reasons. After the service, the family members of officer ramos and his partner helped to carry the casket out of the church. Some nypd officers watching the service on a big screen outside the funeral turned their backs to mayor bill de blasio when he spoke at the service. Police Union Officials say that the mayor has contributed to a climate of mistrust toward Law Enforcement during the recent antipolice protests. A spokesman for de blasio says that the mayors only focus right now is to unify the city and to honor the lives of the two Police Officers. Both ramos and liu have been posthumously promoted to firstgrade detective. The funeral for liu will be next weekend on saturday in brooklyn. While thousands were honoring rafael ramos in new york yesterday, in philadelphia protesters organized a peaceful rally over Police Brutality. More than 100 demonstrators packed center city yesterday. Leaders of the Group Muslims mobilized against Police Brutality called for an end to the killings of unarmed black men by Police Officers, a reference to the Michael Brown and eric garner cases. Protesters also marched in remembrance of brandon brown, who was shot to death by Philadelphia Police earlier this month after investigators say he reached for a loaded handgun during a traffic stop. This week some students and parents in philadelphia will be scrambling with their school suddenly closed. The Walter Palmer Charter School will permanently close on december 31st. Walter palmer points to financial difficulties. The charter owes over a Million Dollars to the Philadelphia School district. That order came down earlier this year after the state Supreme Court found that the charter was collecting money from the district for too many students. As a result, at the time, the charters high school closed. The parents of the remaining students in Elementary School are frustrated now that the charter is completely shutting down. I feel defeated. A School District spokesperson tells nbc 10 that parents should contact the district to arrange new enrollment at Public Schools in the city. The play Station Network was restored yesterday. Now to news out of atlanta, the mayor there is stepping up security at hartsville Jackson International after a breach at the airport. Earlier this week authorities arrested two men for allegedly smuggling more than 100 guns between atlanta and new york. Police say the delta baggage handler and the forma delta employee skirted security and carried the guns onboard flights. An Airport Security expert says the airline and airport officials are making a big mistake by concentrating their Safety Measures on just the passengers. Weve got all this front end security for the passengers with tsa screening everybody. Then you have the back end security. The mayor of atlanta is standing by his decision to beef up security. He says that his administration will also help to enhance the security thats provided by the federal agencies. This morning the community of flagstaff, arizona is mourning the loss of a Rookie Police officer who was shot and killed while responding to a Domestic Violence call. 24yearold Tyler Stewart was on the police force less than a year. He was looking for a man involved in the Domestic Violence incident yesterday when that suspect fired several shots and killed him. The suspect then shot and killed himself. Stewart, by the way, is only the second flagstaff Police Officer ever to be killed in the line of duty. Two snowmobilers were killed this weekend while trying to cross a frozen lake in montana. They were snowmobiling with a group of people. Two made it across safely. A third person fell through the ice but was rescued. A Research Team eventually recovered the bodies of the other two snowmobilers from the icy waters of the lake. In Fresno California police have arrested a man whom they say vandalized an Islamic Cultural Center on christmas morning. According to authorities, the man used rocks to smash seven glass doors, an American Flag and other items inside the center were covered in bleach. The centers manager says the suspect stole their sense of security. Its painful because we do so much with our friends and neighbors in this community. We have great relationships in the community. Were a place thats open and welcoming to everybody. The police chief initially called the breakin a hate crime, but relatives of the suspect say hes schizophrenic and that this is a case of a man suffering from mental illness. Police will let fbi agents decide whether hate crime charges are warranted. Listen to this.
