86 degrees yesterday afternoon. We had brilliant sunshine all weekend long, but overnight, some clouds have started to move into the area. Well see some sunshine today, but its never going to be as clear as what we enjoyed saturday and sunday. Thats a live, dry view of center city from the adventure aquarium. What we will see is a little bit of fog to begin with. Fog is showing up in parts of delaware and south jersey, but most of the area is fogfree this morning, and well see temperatures starting off in the 60s. Just some light fog forlan caster and bluebell. No problem for wilmington or philadelphia, but mt. Holly, the visibilitys down to two miles, and theres dense fog millville has seen improvement in the last half hour, now fivemile visibility there. Temperatures, they have cooled down this morning. Were seeing readings that have dropped into the 50s, but mainly in the 60s. 64 for philadelphia, trenton and wilmington in the low 60s to start with. So, weve got some clouds coming in, but it will be dry today, 64 degrees at 7 00. Any fog will be done by 9 00, and warmer at noontime, 77 degrees with some breaks of sunshine. No accidents to report, just some construction out there. A live look at 422 right at trooper road, where there is some overnight construction that im told should be wrapping up around now. But just keep in mind, it is taking out a lane in both directions. Thats 422 eastbound and westbound at trooper. Also, 422 eastbound, the ramps to and from Armand Hammer boulevard, they are closed because of longterm construction through november. Youre going to want to stay away from that area. And the taconypalmyra bridge, as you can see, its dark, but you can see the bridge is raising right now for a ship to pass through. That to last for about 15 minutes and affect traffic on 73. Chris . Thanks, katy. New from overnight, investigators are trying to figure out what started a fire in the basement of a highrise apartment building. Nbc 10 was on bryn mawr avenue in winfield just after 11 00 last night. Firefighters were able to quickly get the situation there under control and the residents were allowed to return inside about an hour later. This morning Philadelphia Police are looking for the driver who ran over a little girl and just took off. And police say they know exactly which car theyre looking for, thanks to a very determined eyewitness. Nbc 10s jesse gary is live at Childrens Hospital in university city. Jesse, how is the 7yearold doing this morning . Reporter chris, hospital Officials Say the 7yearold is in guarded condition after being hit last night. Lets take a look at her picture. This is 7yearold allure mclaine. She was rushed to c. H. O. P. After being hit late last night. Witnesses say the child was crossing north 42nd at pens grove. One vehicle stopped for the crossing, but the driver of a second swerved around the stopped car, hit the child, then sped off. Police are now looking for that car, and ill have more information on how you can help in that investigation coming up in 30 minutes. Live outside Childrens Hospital, jesse gary, nbc 10 news. Heres what else is happening today. A trial is scheduled to begin for a north town man who is accused of running over a Police Officer after a traffic stop. Christopher seeiteigel is facin charges. Police say he refused to get out of the car after a traffic stop and sped off and dragged the officer for about a block. The officer had a fractured ankle. An investigation is under way this morning to find out what started a house fire that killed the president of a local Hospital System and his wife. John and Joyce Sheridan died after that fire inside their home early sunday morning. Prosecutors say the circumstances surrounding the fire are still being looked at. Nbc 10s Tracy Davidson is following this live in our digital operations center. I know the sheridans deaths is shocking the community. John sheridan was president and ceo of Cooper University health care in camden. Firefighters responded to the sheridans home in montgomery township, somerset county, just before 6 15 sunday morning. The fire was contained to an upstairs bedroom where the couple was found. Investigators say John Sheridan died at the scene. His wife was rushed to a nearby hospital where she died a short time later. Governor Chris Christie released this statement john was an outstanding public servant, a leader in the health care industry, a true new jersey treasure. Joyce was an outstanding teacher, wife and mother. In a statement to nbc 10, coopers board of trustees, george norcross, said it is hard to overstate how great a loss johns death is to his family, friends, coworkers and coop cooper. There is no one else who has had as big an impact on me as john did, except my father. Now, the next step in the investigation will be to perform an autopsy on the sheridans to determine exactly how they died. Well keep you updated. Live in the digital operations center, Tracy Davidson, nbc 10 news. Five minutes after 4 00. The search in the suspect for the murder of a Pennsylvania State trooper has shifted. A state Police Spokesperson says the focus of their search has moved slightly to the southeast, but theyre not saying why. Eric frein is the man charged with ambushing two state troopers outside their barracks in Blooming Grove on september 12th, killing one trooper and wounding another. Authorities believe they have frein contained within a 5squaremile perimeter around his parents home in monroe county. Happening today, two cities in this area will begin a new effort to cut down on crime. Nbc 10s matt delucia is live in wilmington, one of five cities nationwide, matt, selected for this new federal program. Tell us about it. Reporter and chris, in our area, its wilmington and camden, and police, mayors and prosecutors from our area are going to be heading down to washington today for the start of the Violence Reduction network summit. How this all came about is the department of justice wanted to put together a program to curb Violent Crime and make the streets safer. The city selected for this project will be granted access to the full evidence of violencebased Resources Available through the government. Now, the summit in washington will take place over the next three days. And i mentioned wilmington and camden, but other cities include detroit, chicago and oakland, california. Local leaders are tipping their cap to this idea. We spoke with a sergeant here at the Wilmington Police department on putting that together, about how they are trying to curb crime here in this city. Well have that in the next hour. Isis, were talking about. Despite the air war against isis in syria, the islamic insurgents are still battling Kurdish Forces for a town on the border with turkey. U. S. Targets have hit isis targets near that town, but the militants appear to be gradually forcing kurdish fighters back. And the battle with isis for iraqs second largest city continues. Despite weeks of fighting there and the assistance of Coalition Air strikes, kurdish fighters say they have been unable to advance against the militants. This morning a bit of fog in south jersey, the worst of it at the airport, for Atlantic City down to a quarter mile visibility. Maybe some delays at the airport there to start with. You can see if you look closely some breaks in the clouds that have been moving in overnight. Well get some breaks of sunshine, but were never going to clear out. These clouds extend all the way into the deep south. But theyre not bringing much rain, not to our area. You can see some steadier showers in southern virginia, in western and central pennsylvania getting some scattered, light showers that will not make it into our area today. So, umbrellas not necessary today. And the bright sunglasses, the sunglasses for the bright sunshine yesterday, probably not necessary either, with mostly cloudy skies, 68 degrees at 9 00. Well be in the upper 70s by lunchtime and near 80 degrees with a few breaks of sunshine with fairly light winds today. There is a chance of some wet weather in our future. Thats been in effect for the last ten minutes. It usually takes 15 minutes for that to go up and back down, so when i see you next, it should be down and traffic on 73 should have resumed. A live look right now at 76 right at Spring Garden, free and clear of any problems for the whole expanse of 76. However, if you want to access 76 westbound from Spring Garden street, that ramp is closed until november. So, youre going to want to take girard avenue, detour around to another 76 onramp. Route 22 at route 309 up in the Lehigh Valley looking good. 78 up in the Lehigh Valley as well. And there is some construction on the ben franklin bridge ill tell you about in about ten minutes. A shooting investigation has turned into a murder case now that a local woman who was shot while walking her dog has died from her injuries. Plus, chaos inside this nightclub as 15 people are shot, and why the ages of some of these victims have Police Looking closely at that business. And were learning more about what a truck driver may have been doing in the moments before his tractortrailer collided with a Softball Teams bus. 4 13 now. A Court Hearing is scheduled for later today for a former Philadelphia Police officer accused of kidnapping and rape. Richard decoatsworth is accused of taking two women at gunpoint to take drugs and perform sex acts. Earlier, he pled guilty but then with drew the plea and told the city judge hes an innocent man and wants to clear his man. In 2007, decoatsworth was celebrated as a hero after being shot in the face during the capture of a suspect. Police have no suspects in the murder of a philadelphia woman shot while walking her dog. It happened saturday night along morse street in the Strawberry Mansion section of the city. Police say Kathryn Berry was shot twice at point blank range and her family says they have no idea why someone would target the Home Health Aid and mother of four. So much violence in philadelphia and no gun control. I mean, people have no sense of no heart anymore. They just kill like randomly like its just a thing to do. Now, theres no evidence yet that she was robbed. They believe she was intentionally targeted by someone. Investigators are still trying to figure out why. And police in ferguson, missouri, say the shooting of an officer over the weekend is not related to the unrest over the death of michael brown. It happened saturday night as that officer tried to question a man about a burglary. He took off, firing shots at the officer. One bullet hit him in the arm. This Morning Police are still looking for the man. This is the latest, of course, in a city where tension remains high between police and the public. We are really scared that somebody on either side would do something that would provoke the other and we would have another awful thing. Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed. Now, a short time after that shooting and just a few miles away, an offduty officer came under fire. He wasnt injured, though his car was hit. There is no evidence that this shooting was related to the ferguson protests. Police in miami say there are still a lot of questions surrounding a nightclub shooting that injured 15 people, including an 11yearold girl. Officers say they found chaos when they responded to the club early yesterday morning. Its still not clear just how many shooters there were or what led to the gunfire. They believe about 100 shots were fired. Investigators are also trying to figure out exactly what kind of club this was, since several of the victims are younger than 17. Charges are expected to be filed today against the man accused of beheading a coworker at a Food Processing plant in oklahoma. Police say alton nolen will face murder and other charges. Investigators say he attacked two women with a knife, beheading one of them shortly after being fired on thursday. The chief operating officer at the plant shot nolen, who is expected to recover. A candlelight vigil was held at North Central Texas College for the victims of this weekends fatal bus crash. The prayer vigil was in honor of all of the crash victims. The president of North Central Texas College says this is the most traumatic event that campus has ever faced. Four members of the College Softball team were killed when a tractortrailer crossed the center line and hit the teams van late friday night in oklahoma. And sources are telling nbc news that the truck driver told authorities he was reaching for a drink on the passenger side of his cab when he drifted into the median. A stunt show turned tragic in the netherlands when a monster truck spun out of control video here. The driver failed to hit the brakes after driving across a row of parked cars, and the truck plowed into a group of spectators. Two people died and more than a dozen were hurt. Police have tweeted that the driver has been arrested. Toxic gas and ash have forced soldiers to suspend their Recovery Efforts today on top of a japanese volcano. At least 31 people were killed after mt. Ontake erupted on saturday. More than a dozen bodies have been removed from that mountain. Authorities say at least 250 people were hiking at the volcano when it erupted. Many of those hikers were initially trapped. They did make their way to safety hours after the eruption. And this morning, peru, parts of peru are in a state of emergency after a 4. 9magnitude earthquake there. At least eight people died. Hundreds are homeless after the quake hit a remote section of the country on saturday. Officials say most of the victims were killed when their poorly constructed homes collapsed. Its been 20 years now since 852 people died in a ferry disaster in europe. The ferry was on its way from estonia to sweden when it sank in the middle of the night. Investigators found that waves battered the bow door, which caused the lock to fail and allowed water on to the deck, which sank the ferry. A ceremony was held in stockholm yesterday, marking the tragedy. Now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. Clouds overhead, and we have a dry start. In spite of clouds, theres no sign of any wet weather in our area, none headed our way during the day today. Clouds are moving into the area, though, and we will see them take over. Some breaks of sunshine will allow temperatures to still warm up to near 80 degrees this afternoon. It will be a warm one today, but any chance of showers is going to hold off until tomorrow at the earliest. The future weather in just a second to show you when that will be moving in. Moving down, 59 right now in allentown, upper 50s for pottstown. Millville is also in the upper 50s, while its 63 in northeast philadelphia. No sign of any activity on the radar for our area for today, but you can see the system that is mainly missing us to the southwest. This will come into the area tomorrow with a chance of some very scattered, very light showers for tomorrow and again on wednesday. The heavier showers will stay well to the south. Already seeing plenty of clouds in the area today. The future weather shows those clouds starting to break in Western Areas at 9 00 this evening, so plenty of clouds over delaware and south jersey at that hour. And well start with some clouds in the area on tuesday, but its tuesday afternoon that well see some scattered light showers pop up during the afternoon and evening hours as well. So, it doesnt look like a lot of rain, but a little bit of wet weather will be heading into the area this week. Today just mostly cloudy skies and not as hot as it was yesterday. Yeah, we had a weekend that felt more like summer had returned for a bit out there. Meteorologist bill henley is back with his first alert forecast, and well have a look at some clouds out there for most of the day, right, bill . Those clouds have moved in overnight. Well get some sunshine breaking through, but its not going to be as clear as it was saturday or sunday, but it will be dry and warm this afternoon. Right now weve cooled into the 50s and 60s, but were watching for some fog. Im not seeing it in philadelphia, but bluebell is getting some very light fog at three miles visibility. The visibilitys reduced a little bit for mt. Holly, but the thickest fog is in south jers jersey. Atlantic citys reporting quartermile visibility right now. That will not last all day. It will disappear. So will temperatures in the 50s and 60s. Were starting off at 64 in philadelphia. We will see the temperatures climb to near the 80degree mark this afternoon, and that climb starts this morning. 64 at 7 00. By 9 00, well be in the upper 60s. And then upper 70s at lunchtime today.
