34 at 9 00 p. M. And 33 at 11 00 p. M. This is the preview of coming attractions today. Monday, a serious winter storm and now, meteorologist Lyndsay Tapases will break that down for you. Eric, we have a little bit of a clearer picture on the timing of the snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain. Again in the morning this is just snow. And that is because from the ground up to 5,000 feet here we have that cold air that is going to be less than freezing. Just plain snow for everyone. And the hourly time stamp as we go forward in time, we are starting to see more warm air move in. First up aloft and then to the ground. As that warm air steadily creeps in first a couple thousand feet up those melted snowflakes will freeze back into sleet into the ice balls and as more warm air moves in that layer of cold air gets thinner and we have the melted snowflakes falling as air extends not only a couple thousand feet but down to the ground we get rain. Here is the time stamp by the end of that graph we are talking 12 00 noon and that maybe early on the timing but it looks like sometime between the afternoon and the evening enough warm air will have moved in that that rain will overcome the snow and ice. Eric will have more on the early estimation of amounts that we are anticipating coming and in a couple of minutes. And you will want to Pay Attention to the forecast. Especially if you plan to drive monday. The state department of transportation is preparing for the possibility of ice on our roads. Steve crump is live and on your side with how they are getting ready. Steve . Yeah, maureen, its not just the state but the city of charlotte wondering what to do. And right now, it appears that everyone is in the mode of stand by. Before the weekend is over. Preps began on thursday in charlotte when workers started going over local streets with a brine solution. We found a number of trucks in the stand by mode ready to roll at a moments notice. So far local crews have treated places that tend to freeze first. Bridges and overpasses are colder. They are either in the air or down low. Next to a creek, a bank and they are colder they will freeze faster. We are in a critical situation because we are not sure how the storm is going to move in. On many roads preconvention is the key. State transportation Officials Say its too early to know when the first wave of workers will be sent to deal with the slick conditions. But jordan expects them to hit the roads before this weekend is over. As of right now people in the charlotte area will not see crews brining. Well make that determination saturday when we have better the city of charlotte has the same mindset. We are going to wait until the storm gets closer then well evaluate how do we need to tackle it. And in getting more information from the state tonight we have information numbers related to the actual budget. What they have managed to spend on snow and ice removal they have a budget of 40 million and they have spent 26 million used for snow and ice removal and theres concern because of not only what is headed our way this weekend but considering the fact that spring is more than a month away. Live in west charlotte, Steve Crump Wbtv on your side. And if you think its chilly here in the piedmont tonight, imagine how chilly it is in the North Carolina mountains. They might the low singledigits and they might not make it into the teens but that is not stopping the flood of people heading up the mountain here looking for that falling. The roads right now are passable. A couple of slick spots but the d. O. T. Is doing a great job keeping those sanded and businesses are loving not only the snow but also the consistent colder weather. Snows does not come every week but with the temperatures they can make snow this is prime weather to hit the slopes. The conditions are great. We had our kids out taking the first lessons. And had a great time. Get our equipment and we are heading out and have a good time. And it should be a good weekend. John is from florida and a couple weeks ago if he made this trip he would have been experiencing some of that same florida like weather.
