today. the good news is the cold front and warm-and-humid conditions are starting to move out of the mid-atlantic. we had heavy rain showers that were in our area throughout the daytime today. showing you we are dealing with a flash flood watch until midnight tonight for baltimore county, as well as hartford county and anne arundel county. if you are on the roadways, take it easy if you're going to be doing traveling overnight tonight. look at these rainfall totals. look at dover, delaware. close to 3-and a half inches of rainfall reported in the last 24 hours. close to an inch reported in salisbury and close to an inch here in baltimore. we did get a significant amount of rain in a short amount of time between yesterday's rainfall and today's rainfall. here's your next-day planner. conditions. beach patrols say the rip tides are strong and the weight of the waves crashing could cause injuries. they expect the surf to kick up. we caught up with one family in a anne arundel who woke up to find tree branches blocking their home. the worst damage happened when one fell on the roof, breaking shingles and siding. >> i've got to get on the roof and get this stuff down. it's a good thing we have homeowner's insurance, i guess; right? >>reporter: unfortunately, the family had just remodeled the home prior to the damage. you were in the best position to see severe weather last night's stormy weather has died. the incident happened at the intersection of 31st last night. she was rushed to the hospital with a head injury and two broken legs. police are broebing whether the storms actually caused the crash. after a nine day stretch of no murders, police are investigating two murders in two days. the city is still on track to be the safest in years. myranda stephens has more. >>reporter: her heart is broken over the loss of her son. >> they killed my son. everybody loved him. >>reporter: 25-year old dante died thursday after police say a man came to his home off southland avenue and shot him 3 times through the front window. police haven't released a motive, but the family believes he may have been killed over a woman. >> the young women need to stop playing games with the young mens' minds. >>reporter: the murder took on the distinction as the city's first homicide in nine, the longest stretch of the year. after his death, quickly came more violence. a shooting friday night off jefferson street, where a man was critically injured after being shot in the head and another shooting early this morning near a park in southwest baltimore, where a man was shot and killed. despite the recent violence, officials say the city is still on track to having the safest summer in 20 years. >> of course, we went a stretch without any homicides. we've had two, but we still continue to build. our numbers are still going down, despite the stories that play out in the media. >>reporter: while the number of homicides may continue to climb, police say the number of non-fatal shootings is actually down by 30 percent. still that gives little comfort to cheryl floyd, who wants justice for her son, who she says wasn't just a number. >> everybody loved him and can't believe he's gone and don't know why. >>reporter: in east baltimore, myranda stephens, fox 45 news at 10:00. >> police have not released the identity of the man killed early this morning. his death, however, now puts the number of homicides in the city and 142. city police make two drug busts. police made one arrest and seized heroin and $10,000. in the southwest district, officers arrested 3 men, seized 13 pounds of marijuana, a gun and $6,000 in cash. a wild saturday night on the west side of baltimore, but it was all part of an effort to promote peace. more than 200 people turned out for a peace celebration on the same block where a young teen was killed last year. >>reporter: karen, police have still not tracked down ronny jackson's killer, but his friends and family hope his death can help change the community. battling the rain -- >> oh, yeah. here they come. >>reporter: the saturday-evening parade is designed to bring peace to murdel avenue in west baltimore. been plague the drums. >>reporter: 14-year old jackson gunned down while delivering fruit to an elderly neighborhood. >> it upset me so bad that he got killed trying to do something for me. >>reporter: his name is forever etched outside her door, but she's so haunted by the images of the murder scene, she's moved. >> when i came home from the hospital, the fruit was still on the strep and the blood was on the ground. it just got to me. i couldn't take it. i am trying to keep from crying right now, you know what i'm saying? >>reporter: tonight it's not about tears. it's a vehicle. thousands of baseball fans are pumping new life in to the local economy. the world series tournament is drawing more than 30,000 visitors to hartford county. every room is booked. every u.s. and in canada are working together to try and catch a man accused of murder. los angeles police say a former reality tv show contestant killed and then mutilated the body of his ex-wife, former swimsuit model. now they believe he's crossed the northern border. we have the latest from los angeles. >>reporter: the details are gruesome. >> fingers and teeth were removeded. >>reporter: police describing the horrific way jenkins tried to cover his tracks after strangling her to death. the former swimsuit model's body was found stuffed in a suitcase and tossed in a dumpster last weekend. >> ryan jenkins is an animal, what he has done to jasmine is unspeakab unspeakable. it's just not right. >>reporter: he was last seen alive with jenkins, who reported her missing and then disappeared. police believe he may already be in canada. his car and empty boat trailer were found at a marina in washington state. that boat located a short time later in a town near the canadian border. police are working with u.s. marshalls, washington state police and canadian authorities to track him down. >> there will be no stone unturned and we'll look under every rock for him. >>reporter: jenkins has a history of violence. with an assault charge in canada and domestic violence charge in the u.s. for hitting jasmine. there is speculation he may be getting help from family and friends. police say if that is true, they could be in trouble too. >> anybody that assists him, helps him in any way, is also subject to being charged as aiding and abetting and harboring a fugitive. >>reporter: if he is caught in canada, getting him back to the united states depends on whether he'll face the death penalty. right now police say he is facing a single murder charge that carries with it a lengthy prison term. in california, fox news. >> he is a native of calgary, agberta, which is why police believe he ned there. he was a contestant on "megan wants a millionaire" about a woman seeking to land a wealthy bachelor. police have found the tanker truck, which was involved in an accident that killed a 67-year old bikists. police say he was riding behind the truck on maryland avenue earlier this month, when he became entangled in the trucks' wheels and died. surveillance cameras show the bikists was at fault in the incident. a state public defender is calling her firing unfair. she said she was ordered to act in violation of civil-service laws and she's been fired because she did not follow those orders. in a statement forwarded by the naacp, she said she was asked to fire a well-respected african-american public defender for no reason. the naacp is hoping the board, who fired forester, will publicly say why. >> we'll start talking. everybody will start communicating and we don't need that to happen. this is a very important agency that does great work for people who can't afford legal representation. >> the naaeshgs cp is calling on state lawmakers to investigate the firing. the search is on tonight for a child rapist from parkville. authorities hope you'll provide the tip that leads them to this man. >>reporter: 61-year old charles was convicted of raping a child in baltimore county in october of last year. he was ordered to appear in court for his sentencing back in february, but authorities say he never showed up. >> he should be considered armed and dangerous. >>reporter: he is 6-feet tall and weighs 20060 pounds. his last-known address is in the 3100 block of garden avenue and parkville. >> he walks with a limp and sometimes uses a cane. chameleon. he has played many roles in his life. now he takes on a new one, as an author. >> there's a message in the book that i wanted to get out. >>reporter: what message could a book about a cop's undercover life deliver? you'd be surprised. during a 10-year period as a phoenix pd, he lets us in a world some of us most of us ever know. a harsh world where people would hire him to kill someone. >> ex-husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, business partner, a mother and father hired me to kill their son. >>reporter: shocking? yes. this was valentine's reality as he worked undercover for the phoenix parking lot to discuss how he would murder her husband. >> (unintelligible). reporter: a mother of 3, goes through with the deal, paying him in jewelry to murder her husband. shortly after that, police move in. she was convicted and sentenced to 25 years in prison. switch to yet another case. she too thought she was hiring valentine to murder her husband. >> (unintelligible). >>reporter: valentine walks away, police move in and she is busted. notice he gave her a chance to change her sniend valentine, who now investigates for the phoenix fire department, says he always suggested people another way out besides murder. to one woman, she suggested divorcing her husband instead of having him killed. >> she said you know what, divorce is out of the question. my family is not going to accept divorce. we can handle the funeral. we can't handle divorce. she was serious. >>reporter: you can't make this stuff up, but what's of the fiction? what of the hundreds of undercover cop movies and television shows out there? which does he find most believable? most reflective of his undercover life on the streets? >> the best show i ever watched when i was way undercover, i never missed the darn thing and i felt it to be the most believable. >>reporter: valentine says the cbs series "wise guy" paralleled his real life. ken wall played an undercover agent for a crime bureau. he would infiltrate various organizations, trying to gather evidence to take down the bad guys. >> it still had the most realistic value to it. it was a great show. >>reporter: in his real life, valentine married patty, the love of his life. together they raised two boys. all the while, he was leading a double life. he writes about those struggles too. what are the messages of his book, think twice when you go to do wrong. things are seldom as they seem. >> if it sends a message to the people that oh, my god, it's like going to vegas. i'm gambling. i don't know if i'm going to get the real guy or the cop and go away for the rest of my life. then i better not do it. maybe there's another alternative. social networking online is the easiest way to stay connected. straight ahead, some rain showers were heavy at times. we had flood watches in effect as well. on skywatch hd regional radar, you can see the last of the rain showers are pulling out, moving towards the northeast. things are going to start to dry up through the overnight hours. temperatures right now, a cold front pushed through that allowed for rain showers to develop today. national temperatures at 73 degrees at bwi. 61 in chicago. 69 degrees in minneapolis. 69 in omaha. the upper midwest is really feeling the effects of that cold front, bringing down canadian air. it is the last week of august. we are getting towards september and fall temperatures. it will start to feel like that a little bit here. temperatures will cool down just a little behind the front that brought the rain showers today. that will push into the atlantic ocean. for tomorrow morning, we could wake up to clouds and a few lingering rain showers. clearing throughout the day. conditions improving all thanks to this high-pressure system that has been sticking into the midwest. it's finally going to make its way into the air by monday morning and throughout the work week. now hurricane bill has weakened, but look at the size of the system. it's still a pretty big system, in regards to size. it has weakened tremendously. it's a category 1 hurricane and has maximum-sustained winds. it will make landfall and kick into the atlantic ocean. it is bringing a lot of high surf and high winds and rip currents towards portions of the east coast. if you are headed towards ocean city for tomorrow, we'll see showers in the morning lingering. sunshine in the afternoon. you may want to double -check your travel plans because there have been reports of beaches closing. we have high surf, as well as rip currents out there. just a couple of fun facts about rip currents and how they form. they're strong currents that run perpendicular to the storm. when you have a hurricane or tropical storm, it churns up the rough access. never swim alone and don't fight the current if you do take the chance to fight and swim in a rip current. for tomorrow along all the beaches along the peninsula, there's a high-surf advisory line of traffic and slammed into a squad car. no one was hurt and there's word on what caused the teen to steer into the traffic. audiotapes reveal exactly what happened when 47 continental airline passengers were stuck on a plane in minnesota overnight. on the roirdings, the captain asked an employee from another airline to allow his passengers in to the terminal. the employee refused because
