9 years old at school. I was very lucky because when I was 11 I went to a very good school counts high school. They were very behind kids playing they had a very good school. Background I guess is where some of them are in that I thought that was much more organized than like a school music thing is what was my I did apply. It wasn't like I was going out of music and I think. We played series we did actually get together often and the other was because my was a drama then and. I guess if you know bass player then we'd have played a lot more stuff. Sort of started music very fast music in primary school talk a compulsory subject heard about time record or outright. But didn't really strike me as anything then I went to grammar school so I gave up music for metal. Cars and all that when I was about 60 you know because the sex and when I want to call my nation a nation and then. Attack. And I just started 6th form I never call because I think it's how I was really whole and. I'm not the the anyone I successfully pass against. That sort of the practical side of playing for me came with playing in holiday camp places. That you can see all around here. Which is a very big industry on the on and tourism lease I guess the biggest in the county on in particular to this time of year. Because we all had the same idea as we left the art and had the same sort of musical background and what we decided is nothing to say here no need to see the play by records and you get a subset of it that way and we have all this decided that London without this incredible place were beautiful thing to have a live in all that jazz and stuff nothing was happening we got this it was totally . Hopeless and a climate. When we were playing down here that the guy pick up the real sort of play that is sometime rather than a holiday camp he was an ex Londoner and he sort of advised this question fairly I'm sure the. Reason is that if you could go down shot Braben you would not go seeming to be thrashing the hand out of the drums in the wind anything credible you know in any sense or they are in town. So you know I don't didn't want to go to London and I had to go to sort of see it I couldn't believe it actually just like the streets are paved with gold which of course. You know they weren't a tool was initially but the fact that now people come approach and approach me the way I thought about those guys most they have a sore chicory want to pick from a record whether people like I wonder what they were like you know what drove them on and I there was a human being's right underneath all that you know and they grew that was the lesson for me and like. Because he's kids cannot look at me and I talk to us about as if we're something different and it's just crazy it's not what we do and what thousands of other people do not out of the average person's rec'd. Mean in this town the way. I think. 6. 6. 66. 6. 6. 6. 6. 3 Creetown. I don't. See them out. Down. 6. 6. 6. 6. The Lead. And. At the. Let. Me. All right and welcome to another edition of from the soundboard My name is Reggie Johnson and this show is on Tuesdays Monday into Tuesday. Night midnight Ok again midnight starts a new day you know. I don't some of you all. Over the fact that midnight is a new day well the reason why is because you don't realize how many people. Gets annoyed you with me saying that. Is not a new day you know because when I say Tuesday at midnight. Some folks. On Wednesday. Tuesday into Wednesday I specify by saying. This show from the soundboard which is the name of that program is on. Tuesdays Monday into Tuesday starting at midnight. New York 99.5 f.m. And w b. On line. From the soundboard is a program that usually focuses on concerts regardless of musical style where the artist and. The artist and or group. Of the call and response with. Last week I did a report on that I did a couple of years ago. My goodness I mean really you know here's the funny thing that show originally aired back in September of 2017 and I did that because it was near a week and I have after the passing the sudden passing. Ok I got some nice response from that but this time around oh my goodness I mean it's like people didn't even realize the realize that I did a show. Before and the response was. Easy my goodness well ya like the show and apparently ya like the enthusiasm that I had on the show. Her. Response. In. Getting so many requests. Mainly. I'm not even. Sometimes even. On. Giving. But yeah. About a particular band could you play this particular band. From the u.k. From. I know they're from the u.k. Definitely from the u.k. . But they formed. Britain. No doubt I mean I like. Clearly. Something I don't. But I will give. Him. Pushed. I'm giving props to. Colleges. I was trying to find. Until I discovered. That. The. Co-founders. King. King. Oh I'm we're big fans of Douglas Adams Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy now. Ok Reggie a big deal about that well if you're a fan of the Douglas Adams classic. Novel. Ok. You will know that. Somewhere halfway near towards the end of the book. The the answer of life was given the answer to everything in life was given and it was given in the number 42. Weight the meaning of life means 42. Yeah the meaning of life was 42 and so being being. Being fans of Douglas Adams is like not just $42.00 put took it to a level $42.00. And that's where the name came from and I was this like genius No wonder I like this genius anyone that has a sense of humor who is dead who loves Douglas Adams dammit I. Can't I'm not like this group. Just saying they were fans of Douglas Adams. I mean the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy awesome I love that I love that and so. Anyway. There has been many many lineup changes throughout the duration of the band there the the original run started back in 1979 and ended in 1904 and then resumed began around 2000 in. I just wanted to check to make sure. I'm sorry 20012001 but the main consisting members of the founding members. Of the 2 founding members always been. On a keyboard synthesizer whose piano and vocals and Mark King on bass. And anyone who's been paying attention to marking. Playing on bass and clearly clearly Mark King. Is a man that was highly influenced by. Johnson from the Brothers Johnson Larry Graham from Grand Central Station and the Family Stone. From Stanley Clarke. I guess you could throw in a little bit of. Bill summer. Many many. Many. Many. Legendary. But he was definitely. He listened to a lot of he is definitely. The mantle. One of the masters of the bass for some time you know. The generation to listen to that. Really slap style. Of playing the bass. Yeah amazing amazing. Time around I want to just focus on the original. Band which the original lineup. King And I've already said Mike. But also. Brother. Played. I wasn't too sure how. All. Together. And have them. After that heard. Well. How. Even though. But it's heavily commented. All current events. And if you don't like that well that's too damn bad deal with it if you have a fan a level 42 you've got to deal with political commentary. Ok so. I started off with. Standing in the. 1983 after that. The chant has begun. From the True Colors album. In 1984 after that. From the world Machine album released in 1905 and that song was co-written by the unofficial 5th. Of. Goes by the name. And done a lot of stuff. After that last chance. From Level 42 self-titled album released in 1901. The sun goes down living it up in the standing in the Light album. Oh my goodness the. The transitions between Mark's. And his keyboard playing and then Mark's bass playing and just how so. In a way he was singing in a way he was playing at the same time with soul rhythm rhythmically in sync it was like you probably didn't even realize he was saying I don't want to go to war I don't want to go to war anymore he was saying that during that point in time and my goodness what a funky way of doing ads is you know what. Marking . On protests of doing protests musically so funky I'll give you props on that. After that. Autumn paradise is free from the early tapes album which is technically with the 2nd album but it was recorded 1st overall but it was released in 1980. It was recorded in 1900 but it was released in 1902 I know it's confusing. And then after that Starchild Ok. You don't know how many people that was. Saying. Richard you got to start you play it starts already you got to play Starchild. Relax folks I won't play it relax just gotta listen listen but it was all part of a set it was my way of. Showing. Conformity Ok nonconformance you know through the music of Level 42 Level 42 for you for your account. Of this thank you very much Ok so and what's playing under me right now is Mr Pink also from the early tapes. And again this was another numbered produce. By Marc King. In and if you listen to this sounds definitely the bass playing right now sounds totally. It sounds like homage to Lewis Johnson of the brothers Johnson Ok and if. A listen to anything from the Brothers Johnson. Tell me that this doesn't sound like something that Johnson would be playing right now I mean. Listen to that. Come on that has brothers Johnson written all over that my goodness Anyway love this song so so as I mentioned before I'm going to go into the early. Focusing on the original lineup of Level $42.00 which again Mark King Mike. Gould and full fill. This concert that I have comes from. Recorded at the root Rheingold hall in Mainz Germany recorded back in February. 14th 1983 and this is some really good stuff here folks I'm just telling you some real good stuff here and this was a rich and ruling on the radio on from 106.6 f.m. In Mainz Germany Ok All right so I'm just letting you know and one of the reasons why you should be donating to this radio station is because of the things that I do here on a regular basis because who knows what I'll be playing the next time around but as I always say. Whatever I do I will assure you it will not be boring Come on you listen to how I talk and how I speak come on do I sound all droll and tall and come on now. Anyway. Ok Check this out we're going to listen to level 42 recorded at. The wrangle hauled in Mainz Germany mans Germany back in February 14th 1903 and people who want to talk to me. Say something to me off air by all means you can do so by sending me an email. To. The. Org My Twitter handle is deep dancin when I see my Instagram handle is deep dancin y c.
