A total of four cases all possibly transmitted locally now under investigation in the transmitting mosquitoes could now be in the u. S. Abc news in florida just last week for a ride along with Mosquito Control as they spray the affected areas and collect samples from as many people as possible. If a pregnant woman is infected with zika there is a chance the baby is born with severe developmental issues. Until now, people with zika in the u. S. Have only acquired the virus by travel to a country with zika mosquitoes with someone who has traveled and been infected. This is a it throws this 15yearold murder case wide open again and its a case that brought down a congressman, but prosecutors have dropped all the charges against the man who was ultimately convicted because a key witness now admits he lied. Who killed chandra levy . The 24yearold washington intern who disappeared in d. C. s Rock Creek Park in the summer of 2001, the case was a national obsession. But it turns out the murderer was likely not ingmar guandique, el salvador who was convicted based on a jailhouse confession. Guandique protested his innocence and passed an fbi lie detector test. His conviction later set aside. A retrial set. But prosecutors are now asking all charges be dropped due to recent unforeseen developments that were investigated over the past week. Congressman condit, do you know what happened to chandra levy . No, i do not. Levys disappearance and murder caused her former married boyfri california congressman gary condit, a powerful california democrat told abcs connie chung he was not involved in her death. Did you have anything to do with her disappearance . No, i didnt. Did you say anything or do anything that could have caused her to drop out of sight . You know, chandra and i never had a cross word. Do you have any idea if there was anyone who wanted to harm her . No. Did you cause anyone to harm her . No. I did not. Reporter but in may as the retrial approached guandiques lawyers petitioned the court to raise new allegations about condits alleged fondness for rough sex claiming a sex act gone wrong may have resulted in levys death. Overnight condits lawyer issued a statement saying gary condit was extremely disappointed the prosecution has decided against a retrial. The failure of authorities to bring formal closure to interest disappointing, but in no way alters the fact that mr. Condit was long ago completely exonerated by authorities in connection with ms. Levys death. Her mother and father are devastated. I wish that the right person whoever did what they did to my daughter, we get answers. Reporter well, gary condits lawyer says he expects his client will speak publicly on this case in the near future. Ago returning to public life. Prosecutors have never named him as a suspect and they are not saying hes a suspect now, robin. All right, thank you very much. To talk more about this abc news chief legal analyst dan abrams. So tell us why charges were dropped. This is a really big deal. A guy tried and convicted already for this crime. And now the u. S. Attorney coming forward and saying, were not going to try him again. Why . Because they obviously have no faith in their key witness. This case was witness and that is a prison informant. The reason that first conviction was overturned is because it turns out that informant hadnt told the truth about past contacts with law enforcement. It sounds like now these u. S. Attorneys have lost even more faith in this same witness who was their key witness in the case. This is still an unusual step here and seemed like they did have other evidence. The other evidence they had was primarily other crimes he attacking women, right . He seems like the perfect kind of defend. This is a guy whos done stuff like this in the same area. The problem is there was never any physical evidence linking him to the crime. So you needed this key witness, this prison informant and if hes lost all credibility now and thats got to be the reason that the u. S. It is such a big deal for a u. S. Attorney in a case like this so high profile to say were not going to try them again, were done. W your heart goes out to them because youre wondering after all these year, is it ever going to be solved. And probably wont be now. I mean thats the incredibly heartbreaking thing for the family as im sure all they want is closure and want to know this is over and i dont think this case is now ever going to be officially solved. Well, i guess what i think is fun but, yeah, hes a sick, twisted but i think very lovable joker. Reporter so lovable that youll rarely find yourself rooting for him even when he gives you ha, ha, ha. The laugh. You just nailed the laugh. How did you come up with that. A lot of experimentation. A lot of bad laughs. I remember wandering the streets of new york and toronto shooting and i would just laugh out loud and see how people would react to it. When i started to hone in on this laugh i realized it was the one that really people would turn around and be like what the hell is that. You were so immersed in the character. How are you able to break from that character and actually say filming. I dont think you really say goodbye. I think the joker is in there somewhere. It is . I feel like now im scared. You should be. I feel like this film is an introduction to the joker and im hopeful that we will see more to come.
