The stationary front off to the south, with that, a lot of cloud cover around. With the front off to the south, the wind has shifted into a northeasterly direction. Could be drizzle at times during the afternoon. A dreary looking day out there. And temperatures will be a good yesterday. Little waves of low pressure moving along this front will eventually provide us with rain 52 in the park. You have temperatures in the city. If anything, temperatures might dip down to 50 by 8 00 a. M. And rise slowly into the low could be spotty drizzle but a cloudy day. Record warmth tomorrow. And some parts could see wintery weather next week. Rob, back to you. What is wintery weather . We are following a developing story out of new jersey this morning. The bodies of three people were discovered in a highrise apartment. Mallory has more details on the horrific story. Reporter rob, the family lived on the 17th floor of this Apartment Building. Now police camped outside, trying to figure out what could have led to this incredibly gruesome crime. Take a look at this video from yesterday. Edgewater police say that evidence suggests 53yearold michael sausco hot and killed his wife and daughter before they believe that melissa and eli were killed with a. 45 caliber weapon. All three family members were found in the couples bed. The police got a call from a man who was worried that his sister had not arrived for a visit on Christmas Day so officers did a welfare check on the apartment. What they found was devastating. They believe the shots were fired on the evening of the 22nd or the morning of the 23rd. A towel may have used in front of the weapon investigators say and music may have been playing. Neighbors didnt hear the shots. Inside the apartment, unopened presents under a tree. One always has to wonder what would possess anyone to do that. An innocent 8yearold girl. And im hopeful that we will find out the reason because she deserves at least the public to understand what happened here. Its always troubling. Reporter investigators are still working to determine a motive in this case. Possible mother and daughter may have been shot while they were sleeping. New this morning, a long island woman is charged with drunk driving after a nasty crash that left two young girls hurt, one of them seriously. Police say the 25yearold tanya had her 8yearold daughter and 6yearold niece in her car when she crashed into a utility pole and two parked cars as well. It happened last night in bayshore. The 6yearold was thrown from the car in the crash and now serious cannily hurt. She is now facing charged foreign dangering the welfare of a child. Also in new jersey, police are investigating a hit and run that injured a pedestrian. Bergen county town. The man is in the hospital. We do not know his condition for the vehicle that hit him. A dramatic rescue in westchester county. Firefighters rescue a teenage girl trapped in a burning building. Smoke poured out of an apartment yesterday with a 16 yearold girl hanging out of the window. Two firefighters crawled past the flames to reach the rear bedroom she was in. Got back to the bedroom. She was still hanging out of the window at this point. I grabbed her, threw my mask on her and grabbed her out of the apartment past the main body of fire again. Brought her down to the lobby. Another unit was down there to give her medical attention. He was cut on his hand but both he and the girl were also treated for mostly cloudy inhalation. Investigators believe it was caused by a lit candle with flames spreading to a sofa and christmas tree. And it got dipped down to 53 before had rose back up to 54. Cooler and cloudier today. With the wind coming in off of the Atlantic Ocean, it keeps it cooler than the past couple of days. Still 10 degrees above average. Typically this time of year we should be getting up around 40 for a high. Were still expecting temperatures into the low 50s today. Then back to record warmth as we head into the day on sunday. Were talking temperatures in the mid 60s. Were going for 65. The old record was 63. Thats assuming we get a few breaks of sun tomorrow. I think we will. Rain returns monday night. This is something new. Perhaps maybe icy mix northwest of new york city. Especially as you head farther outside of new york city. So our first significant wintery weather event. I dont even want to call it possible north and west of the city monday night. 45 in newbury. 54 at belmar and toms river. Police have discovered the bodies of three people inside a luxury highrise building. The disturbing scene unfolded in edgewater. Thats where mallory hoff is live for us now with more details on this. Police got a call from a man who were concerned that the sister and family had not arrived for the planned visit on Christmas Day. He couldnt reach them on cells so police did a welfare check on the apartment. What they found was devastating. They believe the shots were fired on the evening of the 22nd or the morning of the 23rd. A towel may have been used in front of the weapon and music may have been playing. Neighbors didnt hear the shots. Inside the apartment, unopened all three of them are or were within the bed in the couples bedroom. It is definitely apparent to us that the shootings took place in the bed. Reporter investigators still working to determine a motive at this time. A shootout in california ends with a body being discovered inside a uhaul truck. The man opened fire. The shootout happened yesterday morning near a subway station in the San Francisco area. Charles getting shot the transit officer in the arm. Another officer fired back hitting himself times. Investigators then found a body inside the uhaul. Getting is in custody at the hospital and the officer is investigators in texas say the fire that gutted a mosque may have been set intentionally. Investigators are searching through the charred debris inside the mosque for any clues into what start this had Christmas Day fire. No one was hurt but the flames forced wore chippers to use a nearby bain yet hall for their prayer. The mosque had been filled with 200 people just before the fire. Its just a place where people look for peace, look for solutions and people come and it is very sad. Worshipers are asking people all of faiths to come together in prayer at their now make shift mosque. Ten years ago in new jersey, two Police Officers were killed when they drove over a bridge they had no idea was broken. Last night jersey city remembered carson and wynn who on a foggy christmas night drove over the old drawbridge. Was broken and they had no idea as they suddenly plunged into the hackensack river. Theres not a day that i dont cry. But god is helping me. Im trying to cope with it each and every day. The bridge was later renamed in their honor. A father in the bronx is on the run this morning after allegedly shooting his wife just feet from their sleeping children. Police are looking for 37year old herrera. He and his wife were fighting inside their home yesterday in the williamsberg area when herrera pulled out a gun. She had asked for a divorce. The 27yearold victim was shot in the arm and the neck. She is expected to be okay though. Their kids were not hurt. A fire in new jersey destroyed a home that one family has lived in for nearly 70 years. Three generations lived in this house. Stove erupted in flames. It happened in the Hudson County town. Reporter the fact that there are still walls on that matt belies the Severe Damage left behind. The roof caved in and the inside burned to nothing, leaving the house so unstable that firefighters are left with no choice but to demolish what is left. First this is what they salvaged. One familys belongs after 62 years in one home. For hours, firefighters did battle with this stubborn blaze as flames incinerated this old row house. And joe stood dumbfounded, watching the only home that he ever knew burn practically to the ground. He had been home an hour after smelling the smoke. This is a test to see how good they did. Anyone, including his 87year old mother irene. The family has lived here for 62 years. I dont know how to express it. When i saw the flames, i cried. I was afraid. The flames are horrible. Reporter it started early christmas afternoon when an old electric stove in the basement burst into flames. Volunteer firefighter mike was one of the first in. The fire got above us and really just pretty much took out the entire house. Reporter and shocked this tight knit neighborhood where Everybody Knows everybody and ganelli is also the mayor. Its a tragedy on any day like this. But it is compounded on a day like this. Reporter after the flames were out, firefighters salvaged some family photos and other heirlooms but it will have to be demolished. Things can be replaced but its a nightmare. Reporter firefighters say stove caught fire. It had been in the basement baa plugged into an outlet. By dawn what is left of that house will be gone. Stories like that are tough all year, but especially around the holidays. Yes. And that will spike temperatures into the mid 60s in the city. Maybe even upper 60s across parts of the jersey shore in the day into early sunday evening with a cold front. Monday night as low pressure moves in over the great lakes, just enough cold air seeping in across new england in the lower areas of the atmosphere to create an icy mix north and west of city as the next batch of rain moves on in. We have a wind coming in from the northeast off the cooler waters of the Atlantic Ocean so that will keep it cooler and kind of moist as well and there could be a touch of drizzle at times during the afternoon. As we zoom things out, there is a stationary front to the south. A little wave of low pressure over the Tennessee Valley moving over the area during the overnight hours of tonight and that can reintroduce some steadier rain into the region. Developing this morning, three people including an 8 yearold girl are found dead in an apparent double murder suicide in new jersey. Eyewitness News Reporter mallory huff edgewater. Reporter the family lives at this Apartment Building. To figure out what went wrong for this family of three. Take a look at this video now from yesterday. Edgewater police say evidence suggests 53yearold Michael Safko shot and killed his wife and daughter before killing himself. Investigators believe 49year old Melissa Sasco and her daughter were filled with a. 45caliber weapon. All three family members were found in the couples bed. Police got a call from a man who said he was concerned that his sister had not arrived in missouri for their planned visit on Christmas Day. Thats what prompted investigators to do a welfare checkometer apartment. What they found was devastating. They believe the shots were fired on the evening. 22nd or the morning of the 23rd. A towel may have been used in front of the weapon and music may have been playing. Neighbors didnt hear the shots. Inside the apartment, unopened presents under a tree. One always has to wonder what would possess anyone to girl and im hopeful that well find out the reason because she deserves at least the public to understand what happened here. Its always troubling. Reporter a motive still unclear at this time. Investigators found gifts and holiday cards that suggested this 8yearold girl loved her father very much. Live in edgewater, mallory hoff, channel 7 Eyewitness News. New this morning, a long island woman is charged with drunk driving after a nasty crash that left two young girls hurt. One of them seriously. Police say 25yearold latanya mowa had her 8yearold daughter and 6yearold niece in the car when she crashed into a utility pole and into two parked cars. It happened last night on brookdale avenue in bay shore. Police say the 6yearold was thrown from the car in the crash and hurt. Mowas is facing charges under leandras law and endangering the welfare of a child. Treated for nonlife threatening injuries. Also in new jersey, police are investigating a hitand run that injured a pedestrian. It happened last night in the Bergen County town of teaneck. The man now in the hospital. We do not yet know his condition. Police are still looking for the vehicle that hit him. A dramatic rescue in westchester county. Firefighters risked their lives to save a teenaged girl trapped in a burning building. Firefighters in yonkers jumped into action as black smoke poured out of an apartment yesterday with a 16yearold girl hanging out the window. Two firefighters crawled past the flames to reach the rear bedroom that she was in. Got back to the bedroom, she was still hanging out of the window at that point. I grabbed her, threw my mask on her, and dragged her out of the apartment past the main body of fire again and brought her down to the lobby and another unit was down there to give her medical attention. He got a cut on his hand, both he and the girl were also treated for smoke inhalation. Investigators believe the fire with the flames spreading to a sofa and the christmas tree. Were virtually in a lock to get the warmest december on record in new york city. New york city central park has the longest running weather records in the country going well back to the 1800s. So just incredible. Unlike the past couple of days, though, where we had the recordbreaking warmth, today we take it down a few notches. Cloudy out there right now. The clouds are going to be keeping it cooler today. Still mild though. Still 10 to 15 degrees above average. As we look down toward the empire state building, temperature departures so far average in new york city. And its been warm through the entire northeastern quarter of the country. The radarsatellite right now showing a lot of cloud cover even a couple of returns showing up on radar here over parts of the poconos and the catskills, north and west of i 84. So there could be a touch of drizzle out there especially as we head into the afternoon hours when the atmosphere really moistens up because we have this wind coming in off the waters of the atlantic. The family lived in this now investigators are camped out here trying to figure out what led to this crime. Take a look at the video of the scene from yesterday. Edgewater police say evidence suggests 53yearold Michael Stasko shot and killed his wife and daughter before turning the gun on himself. Investigators believe 49year old Melissa Stasko and 8year. 45caliber weapon. A man called who said he was family hadnt arrived in missouri for a planned visit on Christmas Day. He couldnt reach them by cell. That prompted investigators to do a welfare check on the apartment. What they found was devastating. They believe the shots were fired on the evening of the 22nd or the morning of the 23rd. A towel may have been used in front of the weapon and music may have been playing. Neighbors didnt hear the shot. Inside the apartment, unopened presents under a tree. All three are or within the bed in the couples bedroom. It is definitely apparent to us that the shootings took place in the bed. Reporter a motive is unclear at this time. Three generations of a new jersey family are now forced 6 decades. Thats after flames tore day. Investigators say the fire was sparked by an electric stove secaucus. The man who lived in the same home his entire life had just returned from the hospital after a heart procedure. His christmas with family was cut short as they were forced out of the burning home. I just dont know how to express it. You know . When i saw the flames, i cried. I was afraid. I i i didnt expect it to burn. The flames are horrible. I dont know where they came from the family had lived in that home for 62 years. Everyone did make it out safely. But aside from a few family photos and some heirlooms, the rest of their belongings were all destroyed. Now Officials Say the house will have to be demolished. A father in the bronx on the run this morning after allegedly shooting his wife just feet from their sleeping children. Police are now looking for 37 they say he and his wife were fighting yesterday inside their home in the williamsbridge section where herrera pulled a gun. The victims family says she had asked for a divorce. The 27yearold victim was shot in the arm and neck. She is expected to be okay. Their children were not injured. And ten years ago in new jersey, two Police Officers were killed when the bridge they drove over was broken. They had no idea. Last night, jersey city remembered officer sean carson and Robert Nguyen who on a foggy christmas night drove over the old lincoln highway drawbridge, the wooden arm blocking traffic was broken. As they suddenly plunged into the hackensack river. Its not a day i dont cry over this. Its hard. Its very difficult. Im trying to cope with it each and every day. The bridge was later renamed in their honor. Rebels is dead after an air strike carried out by the syrian armymy. We get just enough sunshine, just enough brightening from the city and points south and west that we can get into the middle and perhaps even upper 60s as we head down the jersey shore and then another little batch of showers moves on in tomorrow night with a cold front. Behind that front it does get colder on monday. Cold enough so that as low pressure moves up through the great lakes and spreads rain into the area, that rain could begin as a period of ice well north and west of the city monday night. Looking way ahead by the way, pattern change shaping up for the middle part of january, area, right now it looks like the stormiest weather staying just off to the south, though. Big banks like chase, bank of america and citibank do not accept the relatively new municipal i. D. Card. City hall sold it by saying people could use the cards to open Bank Accounts. Youre getting this card thinking youre going to open up Bank Accounts and things like that and youre not able to. Frustrating. Very frustrating. I can say this about those banks. Were certainly going to talk to them and were certainly going to help them to understand that this i. D. Nypd. It could not be more secure. Reporter secure or not, the ids as secondary forms of identification but offered no explanation as to why they are unacceptable as primary forms of id. There are many banks that do accept it. Credit unions and lots of other organizations. You can leave the other one at home. Mmhm. But you cant. Reporter 680,000 new yorkers have signed up for the municipal i. D. Card. Reporter the family was discovered in this Apartment Building behind me where they lived. Take a look at this video from yesterday. Investigators say evidence suggests 53yearold Michael Stasko shot and killed his turning the gun on himself. Investigators say 49yearold Melissa Stasko and 8yearold Mellie Stasko were killed with a. 45caliber weapon. Investigators right now say a motive is still unclear. A long island woman is charged with drunk driving after a nasty crash that left two young girls hurt one seriously. Police say 25yearold latanya mowat and her 8yearold daughter and 6yearold niece were in the car when she hit a pole and two parked cars. It happened last night on brookdale avenue in bay shore. Police say the 6yearold was thrown from the car in the crash and is now seriously injured. Mowat and her daughter with being treated for nonlife threatening injuries. Firefighters risked their lives to save a teenaged girl trapped in a burning building in westchester county. She was hanging out the window of an apartment in yonkers. The flames to reach a rear bedroom. A firefighter and the girl were treated for smoke inhalation. Investigators believe the fire was caused by a lit candle with the flames then spreading to a sofa as well as to a christmas tree.
