The boss, bruce springsteen, honored the life of musical legend prince in brooklyn as family and friends said goodbye to the icon at a Memorial Service. Prince was also honored in brooklyn with the tribute from the boss. There was such a moment. There have been so many good tributes to him online. Were following a developing story on the Upper East Side where a possible road rage incident escalated after a man was repeatedly stabbed. Eyewitness News Reporter Kristin Thorne is live on the scene where the chaos first began. Road rage between the two drivers. Police say the initial altercation was between york and the first avenue. They got into a fight and one stabbed the other several times and then fled the scene. Police say the driver who was stabbed attempted to drive himself to the hospital, but ended up crashing into parked cars. At that point, ems transported him to new york presbyterian. He is expected to survive. Police say the suspect was driving a blue ford with rhode island plates. Were live on the Upper East Side this morning, Kristin Thorne, channel 7 Eyewitness News. Mayor de blasio is defending himself and his team after a memo that was obtained by the daily news. It alleges that a plan to senate in 2014 may have violated election fundraising laws. Steph an kim has this story. Everything we did was legal and appropriate and careful. And, look, weve said from the beginning, if there is any kind ever investigation going on, well happily participate. Mayor bill de blasio on defense over questions into fundraising tactics. The mayor flatly denied any wrongdoing and vowed to be transparent. We want every fact to be uncovered. Im happy to be a part of solving any outstanding questions. But interest any vantage point, everything was legal. They coordinated what may have been an illegal fundraising scheme m a damaging eight page memo posted in full on the website, the lead investigator for the board of elections says consistent with coordinated fundraising for the purpose of funneling contributions that exceeded contribution limits. The memo was delivered to the board in january and recommended the man hat an da violated the law. In return for contributions, deep pocket donors would reportedly reap benefits. They said while this would be a distraction for de blasio mr. There is a long way between laws being broken and gray areas. People should be mindful of that as the story evolves over the next couple weeks. Police are investigating an the bronx. 18 and 19yearold young men were both shot in the leg. A gun was recovered at the scene. So far no word on a motive or arrests. A 23yearold man is behind bars after police say he ran from the scene of a deadly crash on long island. Police say he was driving brand new bmw when he hit a taxi. Investigators say the bmw pushed the caddy across several lanes and then into a power pole killing a taxi driver. Colleagues of the driver are devastated. The guys just going into work and his life is ended just because somebody else was behind the wheel going that fast. My heart goes out to his family, kids, especially. Im sorry for their loss. Witnesses say he was driving at least double the actual speed limit at the time of the crash. He now faces several charges including dwi and Second Degree manslaughter. Meantime, police in queens are still looking for that driver dmt hitandrun crash we told you about yesterday morning involving a church van. Surveillance video shows the van at the intersection of shore avenue and prince street. A de san ran a stop sedan ran a stop sign and tboned the church van and it ended up on its roof. The three adults and children in the van were hurt. Hair already out of the hospital and okay. Police are still looking for that driver of a 2016 ford sedan. Well, it certainly did not take long. Princes pub liist revealed his remains have been cremated. Yesterday, friends and family held a private Memorial Service among those spotted entering his home was his former percussionist and former fiancee, artist sheila e. Outside fans continued to gather to pay respects. Some clutched purple boxes handed out by princes relatives and friends. Inside are various pieces of clothing and memorabilia. A Bridgeport Police officer appeared to put one man in a choke hold and dragged him out. Trump told supporters he can be president ial when he needs to be but when hes out campaigning he has to be different. I sort of dont like toning it down. Back to that breaking news we mentioned just a few minutes ago, more than 100 firefighters are battling a two alarm fire in soho. Flames broke out around 5 30 in this six story building. One driver stabbed the other repeatedly before taking off, the injured driver trying to take himself to the hospital, but ended up crashing much. He is now in stable condition. Police are searching for a man in dreadlocks driving a blue ford with rhode island plates. Authorities in ohio are have from family members who had made a horrific discovery. Eight members of the same family shot to death execution style. Family members found the victims bodies in four different homes on friday in a rural area about 80 miles east of cincinnati. Seven adults and a teenage boy had all been shot in the head. Whats the address mr. Berman there is blood all over the house. Okay. My brother looks like he was beat to hell. Three children were left alive at the crime scene, including a 4dayold baby. Investigators say they have received an overwhelming number of a Delaware Community is still mourning the loss of a 16yearold girl who was beaten to death in her schools bathroom. Some students say the fight was over a boy, but the exact cause is under investigation. No arrests have been made so far. The parents of one of two teenagers lost at sea last summer say their boat has been found. Crew members on a ship off bermuda discovered the ship last month. The cellphone belonging to one of the boys was on it. Last july they set sail off the coast of florida at age 14 and never returned. Boat two days after the teens disappeared, but a salvage crew hired to retrieve the vessel simply could not find it. Two men were involved in a shooting in brooklyn. I will not be in the snow cave terrifyingly bored. That makes sense, though. Not that an alaska n glacier sounds like the most exciting thing to begin with, but thats just me. You just jump from plane on to a glacier. With an iphone, find me in the cave. So it was chilly. Were all complaining about having to come in with cover. But a nice recovery will be this afternoon. Its above average for this time of the year. So far i havent heard any complaints about what were expecting later today. We head out right now and check out the clear skies toward the empire state building, all the way down to one world trade and parts of new york harbor. That will mitigate the brush fire risk and help us in the Rainfall Department along with cooler temperatures and another shot at rainfall by later in the week. We do need that rain. Welcome back. A solar plane has completed its risky three day journey out to california. The Solar Impulse two landed south of San Francisco late last night after 62 hours from hawaii. The plane did not even stop for fuel. The solar power planed came from dubai and made several stops including china and japan. Its attempting to travel around the world to promote clean the federal government is moving ahead for a Harriet Tubman park in upstate new york. The park will include tubmans home and other buildings. This week the Treasury Department announced tubman will be on a redesigned 20 bill. The attorney general has signed the agreement for the National Park service to acquire that land from a nonprofit group. There we go. Its all about the harriet, baby. A fire broke out inside a six story Apartment Building early this morning. As the flames grew, People Living in the building were forced out of their homes. Eyewitness News Reporter Kristin Thorne is live in soho where more than 100 firefighters are at the scene. Good morning. Reporter good morning, michelle. We just got an update from firefighters on the scene, theyre sill working to get the fire under control. One resident of the building and two firefighters suffered minor burns. This fire started around 5 30 Apartment Building on thompson street in soho. Firefighters say when they arrived, the whole top floor of the building was on fire and the fire had extended through the roof. Witnesses say they saw ashes flying out of the top of the roof and their concern was to get to people. So some of the people that live across the street say they ran to the front door and thankfully a lot of the residents were just evacuating themselves. They were very calm. People who lived across the street helped them calmly get out of the building. But again, the concern for people watching this was the fire spreading. It caught on to the back apartment and spread to the front. My friend, the super from the building, he said it was on the sixth floor there also. So it spread to the building next door. You can see the ashes and all that coming out. Reporter thankfully speaking with firefighters on the scene, it appears the fire is contained just to this one building. Trying to get it under control. That one resident that suffered minor burns, firefighters say that person refused medical attention here at the scene and those other two firefighters are going to be just fine. Obviously it is too early to know what exactly caused this fire. For now, live in soho, Kristin Thorne, channel 7 Eyewitness News. Police are investigating what appears to be a road rage incident that took a violent turn in manhattan. Investigators say two drivers got into some kind of fight on east 61 street. One of the drivers stabbed the other multiple times before taking off. The injured driver tried to take himself to the hospital, but crashed near east 76th street and madison avenue. That man is now in stable condition. Police are searching for a man with dreadlocks driving a blue ford with rhode island plates. Two teenagers were shot went down in the bronx. The 18 and 19yearold male victims were both shot in the leg. A gun was recovered at the scene. So far no word on a motive or arrests. Mayor de blasio is defending himself and his team after a memo has raised serious questions about fundraising. That memo, which was obtained by a daily news, is from a state board of elections investigator. It alleges that a plan to help democrats take back the senate in 2014 may have violated election fundraising laws. Eyewitness News Reporter steph kim has the story. Everything we did was legal and appropriate and careful. And look, weve said from the beginning if there is any kind of investigation going on, well happily participate. Mayor de blasio on defense over more questions into his fundraising tactics. Speaking on wnyc, the mayor flatly denying any wrongdoing and vowing to be transparent. We want every fact to be uncovered and i welcome this being done and being done properly. Im happy to be a part of solving any outstanding questions. But from any vantage point, everything was done legally and appropriately. The mayor responding to accusations he and his top aids coordinated what may have been an illegal fundraising scheme. In an eight page memo obtained by the daily news and posted in full on the website, the lead investigator for the board of elections says the review revealed a pattern consistent with coordinated fundraising and expenditure of funds that exceeded konlt bugs limits contribution limits. According to the daily news, the memo was delivered in the elections board in january, recommended the man mat an da manhattan investigate city hall for flagrant violations with the mayor being said to be behind this. In return for contributions, reaped benefits from the de blasio administration. Democratic consult an un affiliated with the mayor says while this will be a distraction for de blasio mr. Thanks, jeef. A two alarm fire has spread through a bidding in soho. Eyewitness News Reporter Kristin Thorne is live on the scene with the latest. Good morning. Reporter good morning. Firefighters say they have this fire under control. They seem to sort of be wrapping up at the but, yes, the fire spread through the entire top floor of this residential building and through the roof. This is an exclusive photo we obtained of the damage now done to the roof. You can see the roof is completely gone at this residential building. The fire broke out around 5 30 this morning on the in the residential building on thomson street in soho. Were told by firefighters it started in the back of the building and then quickly spread through the entire floor. When firefighters arrived, the they say the fire, again, was throughout the entire top floor, through the roof. More than 100 firefighters responded. We have about 106 firefighters on scene. Two members were reported with minor burns and transported to cornell medical center. We had one civilian with minor injuries and refused medical attention. Reporter i spoke with a man who lives across the street. He says everyone got out of the building fine on their own, just the front of the building, that everyone was calm. So that was definitely good. Again, the two firefighters that suffered minor burns are going to be okay. The cause of the fire is just too early to tell at this point. Thorne, channel 7 Eyewitness News. More video in the search for two men involved in a shooting in brooklyn that left an innocent bystander wounded. Police are looking for two vehicles, a blue suburban and silver four door mercedes. The man in the mercedes got out and opened fire on the man in the suburban, neither was hurt, by a bullet struck a woman in the face. We understand the bullet broke a bone above her chin. Police in queens are looking for a driver who slammed into a church van and ran away from the scene. This was our top story yesterday. Surveillance video shows the video in jamaica on friday night. Sign and tboned that van which epded up on its roof ended up on its roof. The three adults and three in the van were hurt, but not seriously. The crash damaged a parked car as well. Police are looking for the driver of a 2016 ford sedan. Also, new york city is honoring a former fire commissioner on what would have been his 100th birthday. West one 55th street and Riverside Drive was named lowry way. He was the first black fire commissioner. The family received a matching street sign to the one that went up on the street. The mayor talked about lowrys service to our city. I know that its bob lowry and many others that paved the way for me to become the 106th mayor of this great city. And was appointed commissioners 24 years later in 1965. He was known for his dedication to improving race relations. Check whats being offered in grants and scholar ships which dont need to be paid back. A caution, though, the letter often only covers the first year. Contact the Financial Aid office and ask questions like is a grant renewable. Does a scholarship require a certain gp a for it to continue into another year. For the rest, you may have to look for private loans which you borrow from traditional lender. Start with federal loans. Two firefighters and one resident suffered minor burns. The fire broke out around 5 30 residential building on thompson street in soho. It started in the back and then quickly spread through the entire top floor of the building and through the roof. More than 100 firefighters responded.
