Good afternoon chair cohen an immigrant from mexico when i recently moved to the states my neighborhood and first home in the Mission District i live in two buildings for 5 years and because there was high rent and also, because of need of the space with my brother and sister they got married we moved into the excelsior we lived for 12 years and on the downturn of the economy our landlady lost her home our home we cannot afford anything on the mission we were looking at for some landlords would not take children it was difficult we had to split up some of the rooms were 8 hundred and only allowed two people to live in the room lucky we found a home for 4 rooms 3 bathrooms that is my neighborhood and home for the families past 3 years and the story of my family or large family is one of hundreds in San Francisco especially in the mission where we feel more comfortable to shop im sorry to shop and look for resources in the mission thats why i urge you to approve this building and more so families can stay and live in San Francisco thank you. I always go to the Planning Commission but the residents i work for the Families Mission in the office of Economic Workforce Development and have been part of this project Community Planning in 2006, we were part of the neighborhood plan that side is this parking lot was puc land and we identity that has a neighborhood as Affordable Housing we have been fighting this is the response to organizing we have 8 hundred unity of Affordable Housing in the mission right now this has been a lot of progress to get this in the mission and im encouraged and urge you supervisors to approve that project and more coming in the pipeline yeah. This is this is big and we have seen all the families families in the studios and theyre not allowed to live this is the only resource that latinos can live in the mission we need more after i hope we will be able to achieve the families goal of 24 hundred new unit in the mission to apply the demand of Affordable Housing those corners were severing in the mission in the School District more families can under they earn under 50 or 60,000 we dont need nor condo and people coming with high incomes in our neighborhood because of the education thank you. Hello my name is loading up im running for reelection to the board of supervisors in district 5 i was born and raised in the western edition with no place rather live and be in the vibrant community i was elected in 2012 and work hard to tangible the issues facing our neighborhood im running for reelection we believe weve done incredible work but more to do and im Getting Started as a lifetime renter i feel the anxiety and concerns that any district 5 rendered feel as the president of the board of supervisors im still a renter and have a roommate my only building was recently 10ed and my roommate and i are not sure about our future where can we go and afford to go in San Francisco we simply dont have enough housing and the housing is unaffordable to many of us agency your supervisor ive passed priority to neighborhood resident seeking Affordable Housing in their own community now 40 percent the Housing Units will be sedate aside so for our friends and neighbors and families that live in our community i introduced the highest Affordable Housing requirement in the history of San Francisco for the fillmore and divisadero corridor ive protected thousand of rentcontrolled units from demolition and will continue to fight for renter and he tenants at all income levels everyone deserves a place to squall home the hope of permanent housing to call home is beyond their imagination nearly 7 thousand people are on our streets even if night no easy or immediate solution but action to address the homeless crisis i secured Funding Forum rehabilitation of housing that will have been left vacant providing permanent homes for are formally homeless families and helped to fund is a if number of creativity programs that are making a difference in their lives and proud to support larkin street and lava the Homeless Alliance and taking it to the street the city is spending over one and 40 million but we have so many people live on the streets the last depress he requested a full study how the funds are making a difference to make sure that everyone involved it being held accountability for getting results and saving lives when you leave our home though the morning to go to work or whatever im working hard to make sure you get there safely and on time ive cased legislation to help the muni buses and expand the entire fleet and helped to survive the bus deserves by over 33 percent during the morning commute and set up travel time and reduced collisions and encouraged thousand of residents to take public muni and he thousand of money to improve the octavia corridor and help to improve the bulk and mass one of the things im most proud of is protecting environmental help that impacts us all over the place after 12 years ive launched the clean clean power the single most important thing to combat climatic change we have a proposal of unminded medication a program that helped 38 tons of pharmaceuticals out of the bay and styrofoam grouping in Public Housing i wouldnt dream i was on the board of supervisors but proud po to represent my constituents and proud of work my office and i have accomplished to capitol hill the quality of life here in district 5 there is still so much to do i ask for your vote even november 8th to continue to work on the ceiling important issues together thank you my name is a dean preston running for district 5 supervisor ill be honored to have our support district 5 is my home for over 25 years i live with my wife and two daughters go to school in district 5 one Many Elementary School and the other in preschool my father and grandparents we are rufgz from nazi germany and emigrated to new york city thats where i say born and raised i moves to San Francisco with my future wife a 5 generation san franciscan i went to law school at u. Hayes valley in San Francisco and started any whether he will career representing victims of Police Misconduct as a civil rights attorney and for the last 16 years fighting more Affordable Housing and against evictions and displacement i was a leader in the fight to save rent control when landlords crossed the state to ban rent control pr im the founder of the castle only statewide renters rights and organizations and been the executive director for the last 8 years im also a parent, an everyday muni rider and neighborhood advocate ive orchid neighbors to protect Small Businesses to prevent the demolition of historic proposals and accurately more Affordable Housing when Developers Want to build now developments in the neighborhood i believe our city is foundationally on the wrong track were the least affordable city in the entire country with a huge homeless problem overburdened transportation system, and highly integrated schools our leaders have allowed special interests to run this city and we spell need independent leadership at city hall particularly leaders that are if not from the system my Top Priorities are Affordable Housing, Public Transportation and education i want to ban prefor housing and provide a right to counsel for all san franciscans tenant that are facing evictions we want to adapt a muni riders bill of rights ground on the east west subway and guarantee a trip thirty minutes anymore in the city and launch the universal preschool program something that new york o new york city did make San Francisco more affordable for families and make sure our kids get the head start they deserve our campaign is a button up Grassroots Campaign we held over 50 Community Meetings already and over 200 volunteers involved in the campaign and the rings in reception in the fields in district 5 is amazing voters are ready for a new supervisor in district 5 one who listens to the neighbors our campaign has earned the endorsement of the sierra club the San Francisco Tenants Union are the California Nurses Association the harvey milk and many other leaders including tom ammiano and david campos let me be clear about one they know it, it is the status quo were working i would not be running against the incumbent in the election he would be affecting my kids both sleep every night instead of knocking on doors and running the Nonprofit Organization that he founded and that i love but i cant sit by and watch as our city falls apart and as our neighbors and our neighborhoods businesses are forces from our community we need change and need it now i ask for your support [ gavel ] good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the regular meeting of the San Francisco Ethics Commission for september 26, 2016.
