Parents to do the right thing, whether its around recycling and the environment theres some great articles about how Young Children are pushing their parents to be better environmental stewards based on what they learn in school or to be better about health and soda and eating, all components of what i think sfuc has been successful in educate, so i think having this component will be a big part of that and im excited that commissioner fewer has introduced the vision zero we hit vao er row traffic fatalities in ten years the finagling thing i will say, a big component of us hitting vision vao er row, is everybody slowing down, whether its drivers, cyclists and pedestrians and i hope this can be a big component of the education push were never going to get to vao er row if everybody doesnt slow down on our streets and recognize that there are too many shared modes and too many people for us to sacrifice time sorry, sacrifice humans or injuries in face of time. We can all be five or ten minutes later because its going to make our streets safer, but i think this is a good component. I know the list of schools that we talk about is for the student crossing guards but bessie does have adult crossing guards as folsom, it would be better to have our young people engaged but we do have adult crossing guards in a number of schools. First of all, i really want to thank the sal and superintendent kevin truet for coming out and also bringing the sac members who are actively participating and it was really, really enjoyable to hear how passionate they were, they are about this program, and i would say, you know because of sal and kevin, it wasnt my thought, but certainly whats happened is that the program itself has evolved into different layers of leadership coming about, its not just the students that are doing the crossing guards its not just the parents that are also involved but now im seeing that the High School Kids are also learning and giving at the same time. Again, i want to thank principal john for being here, you know, especially before school stops and i appreciate the sergeants that are here, pera and murray, and your other officer. The and i really want to say that i appreciate chief sir who just jumped on this and hes fully supportive when he didnt have to say anything about this and his commitment has been ongoing, so i want to say that one of the purposes of this hearing was to look at what were doing what we hope to do and i would say that now that theres a feeling that this program might be taking off theres the question i have and it doesnt have to be answered today, but some things we need to think about is our capacity whether its the in the administration with sal, how many can you really handle, in terms of time and also the sfpd, in terms of their commitment as we roll out more and more. Its not just them going to train the students theses but ive seen them go there and stay there for a few days and make sure that the students are going to be safe because the habits of some of the drivers, whether theyre the parents that are drooping off or other drivers just driving through have been at come door sloat, their habits were really awful and it took two tickets from Police Officers the first morning and it almost turned over night people started telling other people to calm down over here. Maybe you hope their habits will not only calm down at that intersection but throughout. So, we need to figure out also to having ongoing funding for this. Im committed to having the city contribute as much as possible. Im hoping the School District can also contribute at some future point so we could see this as an ongoing program, not just like a pilot and then it disappears like many good things we do in the city. The richies neighborhood, im still very committed to find the funding to get it built for San Francisco. I think the things that children can learn from it is just tremendous. I mean, when i saw them doing its one thing to look at a news clip or for someone to talk about it but when youre in there, when the kids are there and see the excitement and how theyre sort of absorbing everything, its amazing and once you build it, theres going to be ongoing cost for staffing but its built and it could be used year after year after year, and it would take several years just to get to every elementary school, and then by the tyke you recycle again youre back to new kids, so im hoping that what i would like to do is continue this item because i would like to bring it back in the future to look at make sure we have some solutions to the budget issues. I also realize that maybe as we continue this item, that we maybe want to expand the item itself because im hearing a lot of questions around it in which we didnt invite sfmta to be here and other department and is they could have given maybe stronger answers than ourselves so the call of the chair would like to continue the item. So we have a motion to continue this item to the call of the chair. I think that we can do that without opposition. Okay. Mr. Clerk are there any other announcements . There are no more ie tenl, madam chair. Thank you, so that being said, thank you to everyone for being here. Meeting adjourned. meeting is adjourned . Thanks. I example the first thing to point out is the first word is camp tlargz to be bugs and dirt and so long as you can get past that part in place is pretty awesome. Youre going to get to our cabin and why is it so small well most of your time is spent outside. Programming was our first step we wanted to offer a program that is, you know makes people happy and leaves them with memories. Here and there. So more points. Ready 1, 2, 3. I think a big part is its coming from San Francisco it is real estate a kind of vibe people relate to each other and everyones living in the city and you can feel the breath of fetish air and the experience you get out here. I think it give us an opportunity to get away from technology you come out here and look at it here and not look at our iphones and you kind of lose users in the city and have a cup of coffee im corey a typical day increase no typical day. And just the first time being on the talent show and getting a huge applause and i never expected it is is r is a great experience im an executive chief here at kathy serve over one hundred meals a day for the camp mather folks. People love our meals and the idea they can pick up a meal and dont worry about shopping or doing dishes and enjoy and have a great time at camp mather grasping grab on. I like camp mather it is a lot of freedom and kids run around its great. They have all the things i dont have to do the kids get to do what they want to do and we basically focus on them thats our only job. I like camp mather because i can ride my bike. I love camp mather. The children are up here playing around and riding their booiths bicycles thats a great place to see what the word is like outside of the city. In well with the Innovation Capital world i cant think of a better k with the wifi connection in our city it is crossing different economic lines and neighborhoods it helps not only young people with their education but regular folks to find out where their muni bus is or their routine or opportunities in the city it was lead by the department the of technology theyve proven themselves they wanted to take on such a great responsibility on Market Street i want to thank the department of technology theyve found great partners with marcus in the valley along with mayor 42 boss of them gave us very expensive equipment to use but also gave us some great guidance how to do that the combination of the Public Private partnering was another compliment off our department the government some work with the technology to do those sorts of exist things and compliments all the things were trying to do to use technology in a positive woo San Francisco is one of the greatest citys in the world and suddenly give a support to a service that wifi is a utility like power and water and it has to be available i think in all the public venues i will live in oakland im here on microsoft a lot and not familiar with the area especially the part of Market Street so be able to navigate around is really, really helpful and i appreciate the fact the city is doing its civic duty in providing a connection to everyone there was a huge manpower effort 3 shops involved with the overhead the underground Cable Company and the radio shop doing all the turn on and trouble shooting all of the shops put in at least 3 months of manpower hours time and six or eight people in each shop no issues are the app the access ptsz points out to the system there were a sophisticated innocent that was broadcasting the signal ate. As far as mobile devices we can use a publicprivate partnering to hit up the corridors corridors across the city where people traverse with Small Businesses and transit corridors and they want to get online with their education folks connecting with friends are looking for a job i think we have a lot of people in the city veterans theyre not just on Market Street theyre all over the city and want that. It is an old Market Street has been did you live up several times since installed we had to run links to link the conduits system to get the links to the fiber 3. 1 million is a lot to pull that is the fiber to our shop procuring it getting it to the job. We pay a good amount of taxes in San Francisco it would easy the burden to have access r sees to wifi we wont have to pay egregious cell phone bills when they can connect to the intersect is it so kind of silly why not. Free internet and wifi is a way forward for the division of the city across the country oakland and san jose and chicago and filled were saying we want our families and kids particular from backgrounds with theyre used a to be an great deprived people can look for jobs or a game for the 21st century is it it is about making sure we take care of the youre watching quick bites, the show that is San Francisco. And today youre in for a real treat. Oh, my food inspired by the mediterranean and middle east with a twist so unique you can only find it in one place in San Francisco. Were at the 55th annual armenian festival and bizarre. This is extra special not only because i happen to be armenian, but there is so much Delicious Food here. And i cant wait to share it with all of you. Lets go. Armenia, culture and cusine has had much cultural exchanges with its neighbors. Today armenian food infuses he flavor from the mediterranean, middle east, and eastern europe. This is our 55th year and in San Francisco were the largest armenian Food Festival and widely recognized as one of the best Food Festivals in the area. We have vendors that come up from fresno, from los angeles showing off their craft. We really feel like we have something for everyone in the neighborhood and thats really what it is, is drawing people to see a little bit of our culture and experience what we experience weekend in and weekend out. We are behind the scenes now watching the chef at work preparing some delicious armenian kabob. This is a staple in armenian cooking, is that right . Absolutely, since the beginning of time. Our soldiers used to skewer it on the swords. We have a combination of beef and lam and parsley. And every september over 2000 pounds of meat being cooked in three days. After all that savory protein, i was ready to check out the fresh veggie options. This is armenian cheat sheet. Its tomatos and mint and olive oil. That makes summer food. And what im doing is im putting some nutmeg. It is kind of like cream cheese. In armenia when they offer you food, you have to eat it. They would welcome you and food is very important for them. In every Armenian Community we feel like were a smallvilleage and they come together to put on Something Like this. What i find really interesting about San Francisco is the blends of armenia that come together. Once they are here, the way people Work Together at any age, including our grandmothers, our grandfathers, skewering the meat, its fun to see. Fun to see everybody get together. We call it subarek. Its a cheese turn over if you want. We make the dough from scratch. We boil it like you do for la san i cant. The amount of love and karin fused in these foods is tremendous. They come in every day to prepare, cook and bake bread, all in preparation for this big festival. Nobody says no. When you come them, they have to come tomorrow for the feast. What a treat it is to taste a delicious recipe, all made from scratch and passed down through generations. It really makes you appreciate the little things. Its one of the best festivals. Its outstanding, a marvelous occasion. Were outside checking some of the food to go options. I grabbed myself a ka bob sandwich, all kinds of herbs and spices. Im going to taste this. Looking fantastic. One of the best ive had in a long time. You know its delicious b i have just enough room for dessert, my favorite part. Were behind the scenes right now watching how all the pastries get made. And weve got a whole array of pastries here. Honey and nuts and cinnamon, all kinds of great ingredients. This is amazing. Heres another yummy pastry made with filo dough. Oh, my god. Really sweet and similar, its lighter. This is what i like. We have a lovely row here. Looks like a very delicious and exciting surprise. Im going to bite into it. Here we go. Um. This is great with armenian coffee. Now were making some incredible armenian coffee. We buy our coffee, they have the best coffee. They come from armenia, specially made. And would you like to try it . I would like to try. Would you like sugar or no sugar . No sugar today. Im so excited. Really earthy. You can really taste the grain. I think thats what makes it so special. Really comes out. I hope you try it. Were having a great time at the armenian festival. We ate, we saw, and we definitely conquered. I dont know about you, but i have to go down to the food. Check out our blog for so much more at sf bites at tums abler. Com. Until next time, may the force be with you. First of all, everybody is welcome and we ask two things when they get here. One, that they try something theyve never tried before. Be it food or be it dancing or doing something. And if they feel like it was worth their while to tell one person and bring that person, that family member, that friend down the street to come with them. Were going to have to do a lot of eating so get ready. Get ready. And you diet tomorrow
