We are charlie because we are talking about the worlds reaction saying in another part of the conversation that he felt the whole world was present for marches, including the spirit of americas presence one interesting reaction to that conversation about u. S. Representation at the marches here. Also today, the parliament of france coming together in an emotional moment singing the National Anthem together, the first time such a moment transpired since the end of world war i. And standing ovation across all parts as the Prime Minister spoke to the group saying that the world needed to come together to set aside political differences and to take a stand against extremismists, not against muslims, that is received by an audience on edge. Leadership on edge and in mourning. Funerals playing out today, several in france three Police Officers being laid to rest in this country, also funerals abroad as jerusalem came together for four victims who were killed in a kosher market. The Jewish Community grieving even as the world does. I want to bring in ron allen from nbc. Hes been following this story and i want to talk about the climate across the country. 10,000 new Security Forces deployed over the last 24 hours. This is first day weve seen those in place. What kind of impact are we seeing . Its strange to see military troops heavily armed military troops Walking Around the streets of paris near the eiffel tower where places where people would recognize and as well as the muslim community. There have been i hear as many as 50 attacks there, range from graffiti on walls to shots fires at buildings. Theres a huge problem in the Jewish Community where people are fleeing, reports of hundreds if not thousands of jewish families thinking of leaving because of whats happened here. In Parliament Today the Prime Minister outlined a whole new set of proposals hes going to bring forward that are going to essentially increase the antiterrorism laws and increase monitoring at airports for example, increase monitoring of the internet in particular because that is one of the ways that jihadi groups especially recruit and disburse their propaganda. It will conflict with the whole idea of liberty, which the french value here. We still know there are people out there, we dont know how many, that the authorities want to find and question tell us about that. Were hearing there are suspects still at large. Numbers being printed by various publications but sources telling us at this point that those numbers arent accurate. Its just suspects at large. The way to think about this the people the gunman and others came from a community. They have friends and relatives, we call them cells, but at a basic level this is about a community and about friends and associates, almost like a gang in the states. But there are Close Relationships and accomplices. They have capability and they want to know where they are and what they are possible of doing. Thank you so much for following that for us. Again, a moment of grieving for so many in this city and abroad. There are funerals playing out not just here but in jerusalem, an estimated 1,000 or more turning out in that city and Benjamin Netanyahu speaking to family members and grieving as the country does with them. Ayman mohyeldin is following that for us. Tell us what message was delivered to the grieving family members. Reporter yeah, ronan, the message delivered not only from the Prime Minister but as well as from israels president was a res lieutenant one. He expressed a tremendous amount of sorrow to the victims families and in addition to expressing that sorrow he did say that there was a growing sense of antisemitism in europe that needed to be confronted by the world over, particularly european leaders. Israel would open its doors and welcome the worlds jews lovingly to israel in an attempt to try to increase those who wanted to leave france and come to israel feeling that there was in fact a growing risk for their lives in the european continent. In addition to that the Prime Minister and other dignity tris spoke on behalf of an entire nation today. Although the four killed did not hold israeli citizenship, their families wanted them buried here and request the the Israeli Government make every effort to bring them here. Hundreds of mourners came and paid final respects the streets were lined up with people many of them carrying the signs weve been seeing the past several days that read je suis charlie and i am jewish. The viewpoint is that this was an attack on jews in europe, the only reason they were killed is because they were jewish and as a result once again the Prime Minister reiterated his calls for frances jews to come to israel. We spoke to some mourners and some were divided. Some did express solid darltarity with the Prime Ministers but others said they should stay in france if they felt safe there and it was a call for leadership to protect them in the wake of what they call is rising antisemitism, ronan. We spent so much time talking to french people who are jewish in communities here and they are on edge and grieving. Well be following that. But right now we have new video feeding in just this moment, pretty arresting images on the attack on the Charlie Hebdo offices. Take a look at this. [ speaking Foreign Language ] the closest images weve seen yet of that attack chilling moments there. Were going to be seeing reaction to that all over the city and bring it to you. Of course, this is also echoing all around the world, including in the united states. We heard from bill bratton about the response in new york more security were hearing. Take a listen to him. In light of what just happened in paris, some of the additional threats coming out of isis, that we have ramped up the level of attention to the issue, advising our offices to be more vigilant encouraging that they get out of the vehicles when they are assigned to these posts guarding the general Councils Office or media outlets, raising everybodys attention. Pete williams is following the u. S. Security response for us. Pete, whats the latest on the effect this is having back home . Well i think youve seen it pretty transparent effort by the department of Homeland Security to explain whats happening here. The secretary of department ordering an increase in security at federal buildings. This builds on what he ordered in october after the attack on the canadian parliament. And also telling tsa to do more random screenings of passengers and their carryons. What i think the thought behind this is that its very clear exactly whats happening, that terrorists are making public what they want people in the u. S. To do. They want them to attack targets. They want them to build bombs, there are recipes in there, online magazines and in response to that the department of Homeland Security believes this is the one prudent reaction which is to increase security at places where the terrorists said they want to attack federal buildings in the u. S. He also called on the private sector to do more for its own security and also called on people to be more vigilant. The notion here is to strike a balance, not to cause fear but to make it clear exactly what the situation is that the terror groups are being quite public about what they want people to do. One of the ways in which the events here are echoing around the world and having a real effect on day to day lives of all of us. Thank you so much for that update. Stay here for everyone else watching at home. We have much more from paris. A lot of bill emotional exclusives coming up and a closer look at the Security Issues were talking about. Were hearing hear in france there are more suspects at large. What do you need to know about that and where could they have gone since the attacks . Welcome back were here live in paris, a city reacting to new video showing the closest perspective weve gotten yet to the attack on Charlie Hebdo offices. Last week the video appears to show brothers after the attack firing on police as they made their getaway. Are we going to play a moment of that now . There it is up now. Theres a bit of a delay here but you can see those extraordinary images the very closest weve had yet of that attack. I want to bring in our guest for this block. Weve got peter newman professor of Security Studies at Kings College london coming to us from the u. K. Thank you so much for taking the time to join. Tell us what to learn from the video, peter. Well the one thing i take away from this video is again, the extreme calm and professionalism that these attackers displayed, which in my mind illustrates that they were probably people who have had some type of military training and knew exactly what they were doing. This was not the kind of lone wolf attack where someone does something on the spur of the moment and goes out there and perhaps kidnaps people. This was planned and professional. Were dealing with people who have been around this jihadist scene for a long time. And peter, the other word were receiving is that there are still more suspects at large, that being said definitively by sources in the french government. They are not identifying the number. They are saying the numbers are false but there are suspects at large. Do you have any sense looking at the intelligence on what they might be basing that on . Well i think what they are doing, what they have been doing for the past week is to tryout try to find out what associates these people had because the attackers you see typically thats not the whole story. They want to people people who were perhaps involved in the planning of the attack and also associates who may be planning other attacks. As the investigation continues, they probably realize that there are people out there who help to aid enabetted, that need to be arrested and even need to be stopped from carrying out further attacks. So i think thats what we see happening right now. And of course thats not the only disturbing video making a lot of headlines today. I want your reaction to a new video from isis. This appears to show the assassination of what isis say are french spies by a child, russian spies by a kazak child. What are you hearing about that video . We have a still from it. Thats all we can show you for now but its pretty grisly disturbing stuff. It consists of two parts and the first part they are interrogating the socalled russian spies clearly under a lot of distress and saying things we were forced to say. The other part it shows a child who is carrying out the executions of those two russian men. And we know that child because it appeared in previous training videos of islamic state. It is part of an entire family of 150 people that came over from kazakhstan last year and joined one group that then became part of the islamic state. This is extraordinary. It is the kind of stuffing that mind boggling and shocking at the same time. Peter, i want to go back to the video coming out of this country right now, the closest view weve ever had on the attack on Charlie Hebdo we have one suspect in this paris attack who has claimed an aleejs to is or two who have claimed they trained with aqap. Is that a new pairraphernaliair pair para dime . Thats still very confusing. We do have a Jihadist Movement that consists of two groups, al qaeda on the one hand the old guys responsible for 9 11 the islamic state, the new group. These two groups are competing with each other. I still think it is almost entirely inconceivable that this attack was coordinated from the top of the organization that were seeing a kind of collaboration between those two groups who are really quite hostile towards each other. I think what i imagine happened is that the suspects who carried out these attacks knew each other from a long time ago. They ended up in different groups but decided at a grass roots level to collaborate. Clearly even is people are approving of what happened with Charlie Hebdo even though it was carried out by a second group. And the Second Attack may have played off the first one. Its more ad hoc kind of cooperation. It is not coming from the top. That would really surprise me. Thats the latest we know. We do not know the identity of the suspects that may be at large and do not know the intelligence that the french government has but are being told there are more at large, even as we relive the horrifying moments of last week through the extraordinary video making the rounds. Well have much more coming up. But first we want to bring you other stories unfolding around the world right after this break. Stay with us, everyone. Karma . Free . Credit karma. Really free credit scores. Welcome back were live in paris, a city reacting to brandnew video that reuters obtained and we have new moments from that video right now. We brought you some of it earlier showing a scene closer to the action than we have ever witnessed before from that horrifying attack last week. The heartbreaking upsetting moments when those gunmen made they are getaway, shooting the police, driving away stopping their car and getting out and shooting and making their getaway. This video making rounds as we speak, getting a lot of reaction from people were talking to in paris, a lot of emotions and people being forced to relive the heartbreak of that moment. We bring it to you as it is news but its of course an upsetting moment. Its been an emotional afternoon as people react to that video and as they react to the new issue of Charlie Hebdo about to hit news stands at midnight tonight. The presses were rolling off new copies of that and we heard a press conference from the group of staffers survived the attack and now banding together to make sure the new issue comes to the floor. 3 million copies being printed and were hearing from newsstands here they may be sold out. People coming out early today to reserve their copies. I sat down with one former Charlie Hebdo writer. She worked there shortly before the fire bombings of the old Charlie Hebdo offices. She described a close tightly knit family of writers coming together to make sure this new issue gets published. I started by asking her what she thought when she first heard about this attack. I knew what it was, of course, because last time it was under police protection, as usual we say hello and a joke between us because were speaking all the time about how it was and after we move on to very more subjects. When i heard that charb was shot, i knew it was really probably an islamist attack and run away to see my colleague and discover at least more than ten of us were dead. And at what point did you connect with other former writers, former staffers . It seems theres a tight knit Community Around the magazine. Because Charlie Hebdo is a very particular newspaper in france. Its a satirical newspaper, incredible spirit and strong personality. When you work in Charlie Hebdo you keep a strong connection and also because i was in Charlie Hebdo during the so the team decided to publish the danish cartoon to show why people are so angry and there is some fanatics who want to kill some danish cartoonist. We just did that for that to say in solidarity were going to show the drawings and you can have your own opinion on them. Then we had some other cartoons more Charlie Hebdo, like this one i know because we are in america, probably going to blur it which is just crazy. So lets talk about that. Debate going on in newsrooms around the world and it is true many stations including nbc news decided they will not show some of those covers that are most offensive, particularly in their depictions of the prophet muhammad. Was your opinion of that . Its the saddest news weve heard in this all Charlie Hebdo. We were just completely desperate knowing that no american newspaper wanted to show the cartoon so innocent. I just give you a story, im teaching i did teach, i had students from all over the world. And we did a story about the american student was the only one who didnt see the cartoons. When they saw it they were just okay the cartoons make this huge problem . Im sure if people can see cartoons for why my colleagues have been shot they would not believe it. They would not believe it. Its the a cartoon where muhammad is laughing not laughing desperate by the fanatics because were seeing ma muhammad is against the fanatics. Saying its so so hard to be loved by [ bleep ] and yes, you laugh and we did laugh. And even the lawyer of the islamic league, the organization from saudi arabia at the end of the trial of Charlie Hebdo was laughing too. We won on that but we have to deal with the consequences if to live with the risk of being shot just to show a simple innocent cartoon. Unthinkable for any journalist or any cartoonist. This community has now come together and you said publicly we will make sure the next issue is published. Thats due to happen this week and i understand youve seen the offices where its happening, where the new cartoons are being drawn. What is the mood like there . Survivors are very in shock for sure. The first date was difficult for them to work to just focus. They are very few now, but because they know that our dead colleagues wanted them to draw and make laugh about those crazy stupid guys who can kill for a cartoon, they start again to work. And i can tell you that on the cartoons i saw, that you wont see because you are americans, sorry for you, there is a very funny, funny one. Theres a really very funny one. This is the biggest mistakes the jihadist did. When the terrorists are taking other religion or country or can look powerful and people want to be angry against them they will always find lies. What is the most Important Message and was different about it after the attack . They want to say no matter what, well continue you can kill our colleague, kill our friends. You wont kill the spirit of liberty. You wont kill the spirit of blasphemy. Its more than having a sense of humor, the right is just the basis of a secular democracy. If you cannot laugh about the religion, any religion or if you can laugh only about the pope but not about islam, that means that citizens are not equal and that the fanatical religions that dont have the sense of humor and who can kill for a simple cartoon are making the law. They are making the rules for the press. Then i would say we dont live any more in democracy. We live already in a dictatorship. So this is the message they want to say, stop to call islamphobic, people who want to be seckularists and have the right to criticize dogmas which is different than criticizing people for their belief. In france we have a freedom of express, when you incite to hatred. If you say, for example, if you say that muslims are bad or Something Like this you will be condemned. And you have actually personally gotten a great deal of criticism for pointing the finger at the muslim faith in view of some of your critics . This was the most painful difficult thing for my colleague and me too, criticizing racism they were the first, those cartoonists that got killed were the most powerful cartoonists against racism. But they were also against racism against muslims. But they just wanted to laugh about islam as they laugh about the church the Catholic Church and pope thousand times. Just to preserve this philosophy of enlightenment which is the base of our french secularism. Our thanks to a very eloquent katherine, were all waiting and watching for the new issue and well follow it closely on this program. First, we have much more on the video emerging from reuters showing our closest view on the attack yet. Thats next. That obtained by reuters. Take a look at this. It is the closest view we have had yet of the attack last week on the offices of Charlie Hebdo. That video shows shooters after the attack shows them driving away and encountering the police leaving their car to shoot at the police and then getting back in that car and making a dramatic getaway just slipping by that police car in that street that you see there in the video. I want to bring in two experts on this kind of terrorism story, who have seen all too many of them. First up, eli lake for Bloomberg View and chris, a veteran reporter here in paris and currently with the daily beast. Eli, youve seen this video. What new information does it give us . It confirms that this was a very professional these guys had some training and fairly professional. It was not a panic move or anything like that. It also suggests that its a reminder that a lot of these jihadist organizations wanted people with western passports to give them this kind of urban warfare type training. We saw it in mumbai and unfortunately just saw it in paris. Chris, it shows extraordinary heroism on the part of police right . It does. They are facing down two guys and they dont have any kind of weaponry to take that on. Of course what happens, you dont see theres a moment where the car backs up the police car backs up to try to pull away. Then the terrorists get back in their car and go charging past the police car. But you dont see right after that when they encounter the policeman on bicycles and shoot at them and killed one of them and executive one of them in the street. I mean just the body language of these guys that we saw in the earlier videos is even more pronounced here. Very cool, very methodical know exactly what they are doing as they go about murdering their way through paris. And eli, what are your thoughts on that . How cool collected methodical does this video look to you . How much training they received . I think chris is right. Its horrifying to see how they go through this so methodically. But on this question of training and the fact the french authorities now say there are more suspects than theyve announced at this point, suggest that this is really part of a network and not simply a lone wolf attack and couple of people that were inspired. Its something that was clearly planned. Theres a lot of evidence that shows that isis had and i think al qaeda in the arare yan peninsula, their own kind of hit list and Charlie Hebdo has been on that list for a long time. This isnt the first time theyve gone after it. Everybody should have sadly seen this coming even though its quite shocking and ultraviolence. Heartbreaking for the city and the world to relive. Well bring you the very latest as Security Experts sort through what this shows us. Thanks for that. Stay with us everybody watching at home, we have a major exclusive up ahead, a rare personal interview with partner left behind by the iconic editor of Charlie Hebdo. The nighttime, sniffling sneezing, coughing aching, fever, best sleep with a cold medicine. Welcome back im here live at the Place De La Republique where so many people unprecedented, uncountable number gathered to show unity and mourn. But theres also a very personal side. I talked to the widow of stephane charbonnier, the editor, now an iconic figure of Charlie Hebdo they described a life together that many were skeptical of and doubted but she showed us their intimate home videos and photos of her child calling him dad. Heartbreaking moments she is now reliving in the wake of this attack. Shes a current member of the Supreme Court and she, of course, is in deep grief, not granting interviews. Heres a look at what shes going through now. I dont sleep. I dont eat. I just drink some water and i try i would like to die sometimes, i think its not and its very difficult because, you know what makes you feel that that you would like to die . Because i would like to give my life for my for my boyfriend. You know hes a great man. Hes my hero because he stands up for freedom, it just he died because hes a caricaturist. Its incredible. I would like to take his place. I would like and you know and its not a good thing because im a mother. I adopt my little girl from russia and she needs me. Show me you have some pictures. Yes, some pictures and video, yes. So he was very much a fatherfigure. Yes. We did some biking with my little girl. A beautiful family. Yes. He signed this one for you . Yes. Because he has a conviction that im a strong woman and i could do revolution, but im not sure. Because you were a fighter on this issue so he signed that one for you . Yes. And you know some lover would offer a diamond for his girlfriend. My lovers is offering. This was his gift to you. My gift for my 41 birthday and it says jeannette bougrab. And sometimes i say it is enough to talk, we have to take this one and you were both fighters . Yes. And he drew my little girl every time because he wanted to make a book with my little girl may and he drew a little bit. And when he has time he said bougrab, i love you. And i never i find i couldnt love anyone after him. Do you remember where you were when you first heard that something terrible had happened at the office . When i heard some news i tried calling him but it didnt he didnt answer me and he answers immediately when i call him usually and i didnt understand. So i call one of his friends and say what has happened. He said i dont know. I dont know. So i took a cab, a taxi and i got to Charlie Hebdo and i i was very weak so i saw a lot of policemen and the french president was here and i told him, where is charb, and he didnt answer me. And the guy said he died. And i fell on the ground and i cried. But i dont want i didnt want to believe it. I didnt want to believe it so i wanted to go into the building to see charb, because i didnt want to believe. It is a nightmare. But the policeman didnt want me to let me to enter and the bodyguards say to me he died and it is not beautiful to see his body. And so i stayed out on the street and it was very cold so and after several hours on the street the doctor took me into the hospital and i say to my love goodbye. I kiss his hand and i kiss on the head. But i couldnt see his face because he had no face. And they put some some veil on his face because it is too they destroyed his face. But you wanted to see him . Yes. Because you know i would like but when some people die, you can see them for five or ten minutes because so you didnt have much time. No only ten minutes in the morning and ten minutes in the afternoon. So i said i love you. I said a stupid thing. What can i say . I said i love you and i kiss because it is a he is a cartoonist and so he had a beautiful hand very beautiful. And when i saw the body in the morning and when i saw one more time the body in the afternoon, his body is destroyed. You understand what i mean . It is not the same because his fingers, the top of the finger is blue you know. And very curled. And i said my love what can i say . And it is very difficult because i prefer to die i prefer dying, you know. Jeannette bougrab, we appreciate her speaking her speaking to her. We heard from his family and they did not appreciate her speaking publicly and she said no one can silence her and that charb would want her to speak up. Thank you. A lot unfolding here and around the world. And well have more including the Charlie Hebdo attack in the next hour with joy reid. Kaboom. Well, i just have a few other questions. Chuck, the only other question you need to ask is, what else can you do for me . Ill just take a water. Get your credit swagger on.
