I am very fine, thank you so much for having me. You know i ran in 04 so i know your strength in South Carolina, and your organization on the ground. Tell me have you decided who you are going to support in the South Carolina primary because as a former candidate i know it carries a lot of wait with voters. Thank you very much for saying that. But, i have decided who i am going to vote for. I have not decided exactly what role i will put between now and at the election day on the 29th. Ill not be doing it publicly until after our debate which is on the 25th. After that debate, i may do something publicly but i have not decided what it will be yet. So you have not decided to announce publicly but you know who you are going to vote for. Oh, absolutely. I know who i am going to vote for. I know for some time now. All right, so i cant ask you to break your commitment not to announce you are going to endorse before the debate there but just tell me who you are going to vote for. Good try. Good try. All right, let me ask you this way, congressman. Is there anybody you would rule out voting for . No, i cant vote for some people who are not on the ballot yet. Mayor bloomberg is not on the ballot yet but there are quite of people on the ballot that i can vote for. I think a lot, klobachar, shes a great person and Elizabeth Warren. I have done events with her. Bernie sanders i had press conferences with him and i have done events with joe biden. And steyer, i gotten to know him. I have been in and out with all the candidates. My grandson is for mayor pete. I think that all of us in the clyburn family are doing what we can to make South Carolina primary and good productive primary, trying to make it for all the candidates because we want to stay in this window and keep them coming into South Carolina. I am not doing anything that i think it would jeopardize my state and primary. I can only vote for one person. I will talk about who that one person would be, i have not yet decided. Let me ask you this congressman. You mentioned former mayor bloomberg is not on the ballot in South Carolina. But, if by chance if he would win the nomination, could you support her . Oh yes. Absolutely i could. I got to know mayor bloomberg and watched it all. I knew of him a long time before i met him. I knew some great positive about him. Some negatives about him. But, i do believe that the positives out weigh the negatives. You have to compare the candidates with each other, not with the all mighty. I will not be comparing bloomberg with the all mighty. I will be comparing him with donald trump. When that happens, it is easy. Because hes under fire for stop and frisk. Did you know i was apart of that. I am definitely going to ask him as i have pressed bloomberg on it, would you say it is positive that our way is negative if hes the nominee you would support. And you god father of the black caucus. I dont know about that. You got to compare. If i compare bloomberg with trump, there is no comparison. You know we talk about bloomberg and what he may or may not have done for stop and frisk, i thought it was racially charged policy. He apologized for it but not officially for some people and maybe not efficiently for me. He has made an attempt to apologize. I would like to see apologize for the nine people in his Apartment Building in new york, apologize omarosa for calling her a dog or these kinds of things. He needs to own up to the bar. Michael, you worked on hillary and president obamas campaigns, we are seeing now the campaign for the 2020 nomination goes south and west. For the first time people of color will have a sizable plot of the electric or the participates in the caucus of nevada and the primary and South Carolina. It had not been that in the first two states. Something many of us have been concerned about for a while now. I put it aside for this discussion. How do you weigh this field of candidates of Bernie Sanders to biden to klobachar and to Elizabeth Warren and tom steyer, how do you weigh them in terms of the issues that blacks and browns may be concerned about that may not have been as much of a prioritpriority. Maybe a concern but not a priority concern to voters they dealt with iowa caucus. I think any democrat in this field is ten times the individual and ten times the american President Trump is. I think everyone of them will be a better president and serve the African Community better than donald trump would. They have complicated issues whether it is joe biden or his record with the crime bill. I think there is complications. Democra democrats have to beat donald trump and not beat each other. Now, reena, who do you think is the one that the president was most concerned about if the argument that michael just raised and for that matter congressman clyburn raised is electability. Beating donald trump and maybe having get past some of our differences to get that defeat. Who dow think t you think the p is most concerned and defeat him giving him the hardest time of the general election. It used to be biden and everything told us over the past few weeks that the president is feeling certain about his reelection chances. Everything seems to be going in his favor right now. He controls things in such a way where many of us feeling like are we living in banana repub c republic. These are odd times we talk about this network. We must see this for what it is. It is an opportunity to talk about our values. The values of the Republican Party have frankly gone behind the scenes. They have gone missing. These republicans care about trumpism, trumpism is about winning at all costs. The president he does not see Pete Buttigieg as a problem. He wants to face sanders. The republican play book is to say socialism is bad. I think it is shaping up to be bloomberg who is coming out this obviously in a unique way because of all the money, the influence of that money on the ability to get to people and make them question, things like the age of these men and even women to some extent. The color of their skin. This is a white race, this is an entire entirely white race we are looking at. Absolutely. Sth thats hard. How did we lose some people . What does it mean of the politics of 2020 and beyond. These are confusing times and what i would hope most americans would do is pay more attention to what these candidates are not saying. The more they do not address the issues of race and justice. The more we know we cant trust them. Thats the point, michael, that i keep on making. I dont care how much right wing says i am being racial proponent here. They have a lot of time anyway. There is a wealth gap and there is a race gap. I mean even at every level, blacks treating differently and browns in the middle class are treated differently. I think the candidates have to talk about that. I think also the contrast that the Trump Administration has not dealt with. He talks about low blacks unemployment is still double unemployment to whites. Actually it is something Bernie Sanders have been successfully talking about, talking about economic inequality. When trump talks about how he lower the africanamerican rate, you have to look at the facts. When president obama came into office, it was 17 . When he left office, it was 6 . Donald trump improved by 1 . I have to remind my democrats that stop panicking. Donald trump is at 44 Approval Rating and president obama was at 69 at this time and president bush was at 90 at this time. Hes beatable. What we have to do is talk about our values and what we are about and how we can win. Reena, you said that hes comfortable but every poll shows three or four of the democratic contenders in a head on race would beat him. You know rev, i dont trust the polls much anymore because we are so early in this. Look at the states that voted. We dont know what South Carolina is going to do yet. The nevada caucuses. Theyre going to be diverse. We may find something telling there. These hypothetical matchup, i dont find much weight in them. What i find weight in are polls of the recent yahoo talking about american views of socialism as well as how they see Bernie Sanders and there was some striking figure, 62 of americans find Bernie Sanders to be a socialist. 61 of independence find him to be a socialesist. Socialism is bad, dont vote for it. Give us your vote again for another four years. Your economy is fine. We have not had any terror threats. I think bloomberg has done all those things particularly in houston two days ago and i think that really ask the black community for support. Let me say this, Mike Bloomberg, in my opinion is the only one thats ready to beat trump right now. Before you go there congressman. I want to raise this, your colleague also says bloomberg. Republicans are determining to drown with what some have called a title way of Voter Suppression against voters of color in increasingly competitive states. In florida, gop lawmakers have been largely successful in sabotaging a 2018 valid initiative and restored the franchise to nearly 2 million largely former felons by attacking on a requirement that they pay a court of fine before exercising their rights. In arizona the Republican Attorney general is asking the nations highest court to over turn a federal ruling last month that the states banned on Third Party Collection violates the Voting Rights act by intentionally reducing black and brown access. Of course in spite of all of these and other examples and dozens of lawsuits, the trump Justice Department has never pursued a single minority Voting Rights case. Joining me now our nbc News Reporter janelle ross. Janelle, i remember under the obama administration, we had several lawsuits that many in the Community Supported and really pushed for president obama. I think it was 11 active lawsuits around Voter Suppression. The Justice Department not only pursued any they actually withdrew some lawsuits in texas and i believe north carolina. This is an active strategy by this administration. At minimum it could be said that Voting Rights division of the Justice Department decided to focus on cases involving military Voting Rights so rights of those who are enlisted and difficulties they faced in casting ballots and have not put any resources in any Voting Rights cases thus far and involving minority voters. There are a range of issues as you mention around the country and everything from polling site closures to difficulty registering in ballot collection process and difficulties purging voters. Exact match on voters regist registration in terms of registration and names and issues around facilities allow to service polling sites and how many Parking Spaces they have to have. There are a range of issues. These are done in mostly black communities. Polling sites were changed in black communities and other states like alabama. We see where they closed sites and made it where you have to travel more distance to vote on other things. So this is a real plan based on race. It certainly could appear that way given the effects are very clear, each and everyone of these practices seem to have a particularly large impact on voters of color voters and latino voters and i would add young voters. American young population is increasingly black and brown. Those two things tend to over lap. According to your report, i want to be clear. The Democratic Party sued 11 times in the last two years. Testimony justi the justus departmeice departmee Trump Administration have not pursued any case of color the last two years. Thats correct. As i would say intentionally, these are cases that were already going and vetted and decided to go by the Justice Department and by some magic all of these cases were withdrawn or not dealt with when the Trump Administration came in. Well, it is impossible for me obviously to be inside the mind of the people inside the Justice Department. All we can see is the pattern in terms of which cases they are or are not pursuing if thats clear now, michael star hopkins and and democr and reena. We are talking about the peoples right to vote here. We are talking about fundamental rights of the people of this country. If there were evidence that the Justice Department say we need to deal with this, how does it become no evidence when a new administration comes in other than it is based on a political strategy that had race voinvolv. If you cant vote, you dont have your full citizenship. We saw the effects of Voter Suppression and georgia with Stacey Abrams and 2020 in florida not being fully implemented and desantis continuing to block the implementation of that. Not because he cares of whats going on but he wants to stop minorities from voting. He wants to stop them having their full citizenships. People like you march for it and they die so that we have the right to vote. You see republicans stopping voters from being able to participate in the process. Reena, explain something to me that i cant figure out and thats President Trump said hes going to have a commission on voter fraud and hes claiming so much voter fraud, what happens to that commission and what did they find out . Oh, that commission was like everything else, lips service from the president. Oh, you mean he didnt do it . Are we surprised . Here is the strategy of the white house employees. The president tends to speak out on his rear end. On one hand he says russia had nothing to do with anything then he faints complete ignorance when people show him whats happening with other parts of the country. This is the master mind of Congress Sitting on kplil acapi hill. This administration as well as this senate majority, Mitch Mcconnell is changing the landscape for black and brown people for decades to come. Thats what i have been most worried about. Republicans frankly there is a lot of misinformation, i am talking to Republican Voters mainly of the age of 50 out in the western states and they dont really know any of whats happening to people like us. How we are not being able to allowed to vote in certain states. They almost act as if there is no problem. And so the reality is this, we have to get smart, we have to vote for people who we know will represent our communities, who we know are going to take action on the first day they go to office and thats really all that can be done. Republicans are going to continue the same play book and rig n ignorance of this issue. Rina is a republican obviously. Let me ask you, michael. When we look at desantis and the florida legislature, putting this where you have to pay all your court fees before you can vote. To defraud voters to voted to make the law that these fellas can vote. I mean let me paraphrase a line from our lost brother, kanye west. Donald trump does not care for black people. He goes after president obama and he goes after the central park five and every black person that had nothing baad to say about sluvladimir putin. We got something to say. Rina. Did donald trump ever come up with this birth certificate he claimed he had on barack obama . Never. This is what he was known for, right . It was the very thing that he led with. He brought it into politics. And now what . We come so far from that. We should not forget who the man is. Hes a racist to the core. He has a problem with anybody whos skin color thats darker than his. The reality is this, he just, he has managed to stay above the fray time and time again but impeachment should not be forgotten.
