Welker. You were there this morning, what are you hearing now and where is she now . What happens next for her . Well, shes back today. She delivered a concession speech. She had been planning to deliver a victory speech last night but, of course, she never went. So many people are wondering, what happened and why didnt she go . I think because she was so stunned. They thought theyre going to make history last night. Today was one of her most important speeches. She set the tone and tried to begin the process of unifying this country, these two parties of what has been incredibly deeply decisive race. What happens for secretary clinton next . I dont think we know that yet . I am not sure she knows yet. Theyll start to think of their transition and her priorities for her first 100 days and this is a different reality that she wakes up to. Is there an assessment going on . I can only imagine, i was there when she lost to 2008 and gave that speech. This is by magnitude more difficult. What are they looking at . Is there not time yet to reflect what went wrong . I think they are as one tough official said, they are starting to grieve this. There is going to be a discussion and a deep look into what could have been done better. Thats part of the challenge here. I mean look at the campaign she ran. They had this incredible ground game. She started very small and intimate, iowa, 19 months ago, i was with her and expanded out overtime. In the primaries, it was clear that there was a strong hunger in this country for washington outsiders. People who were new to this system were going to shake up the system and i think thats the first indication that hey, we are dealing with this man that we may not have accounted for. Bernie sanders, and then in this general election, i mean she ran a good race. The one issue that continued to over shadow her is the emails. Thats one of the things they have to look at and how they handle it and respond to it. I keep ongoing back to the ground game. This was the ground game that was put in place a year ago. These people were developing relationships with the people within their community and so you have to say what could have been done better. Why didnt they get the turn out of these key communities and the obama coalition. Why didnt africanamericans turn out. Those are questions that theyll be asking in the coming days. You can see it on their faces and her top staffers sobbing. This was painful for so many people working so hard. For people making the speech, well replay the entire speech in sbie in its entirety. Lets turn to jacob rascon right now. They are making changes now and how people are getting in and out of trump tower. Today he has meetings there, right and what comes next . Reporter it has been quite an eventful hour. Hes gotten a lot of big news and endorsements from Republican Leaders who did not vote for him like romney and jeb bush and bush 41 and 43 have reached out via tweet or bush 41 called him. Hes been receiving that. Hes got support from president obama and secretary clinton in that speech. The big of whats next for him is of course, where hes been invited to the white house to go over Election Results and transition planning. Of course, thatll be part of what the trump team is worried and talking about today as well. Really, the Trump Campaign is feeling as you might expect, their feeling which is fantastic. His spoupporters have said all along that they knew this would happen and many inside the Trump Campaign did not really believe that this would happen. I was with the campaign yesterday and several aids, actually said, can you believe that this is happening to one another and of course, it did happen. The big meeting i talked about it. Jacob, you spent months on the trails and a lot of times we talked to you, you wrote a note and i reposted on my facebook and twitter. Talk about the voters that you met and give us the sense of thousands and thousands of people that you met and how this happened yesterday . Reporter sure, if i had to boil it down, i would say that my observation is this. They are hardworking americans, everywhere i went on the plane or the rental car place or uber or taxi or bus, i would ask everybody about donald trump. And i tried as har as i could to let them talk and listen. I learned that there are regular folks, we are talking about teachers or Police Officers or retired professors or mothers and fathers regular people with valid concerns about the direction of their country. And so that was what i would boil it down to. Throughout the campaigns, we saw crazy moments wit supporters but those were few and far between when you compare it to thousands and thousands that went to the rallies. The thousands that i met, personally, kate. They showed up and voted yesterday in mass. Jacob rascon, thank you very much. Before we move to clinton and before we were talking to Kristen Welker about the speech she gave. If you missed it, this is Hillary Clinton in her own words in its entirety. [ applause ] thank you all. Thank you all very much. [ applause ] thank you very much for being here. I love you all, too. Last night, i congratulated donald trump and offered to work with him on behalf of our country. I hope he will be a successful president for all americans. This is no a lot the outcome we hoped for and i am sorry that we did not win this election for the values we share and the vision we hold for our country. I feel [ applause ] i feel pride and gratitude for this Wonderful Campaign that we built together. This vast diverse, and energized campaign. You represent the best of america and being your candidate have been one of the greatest honors of my life. [ applause ] i know how disappointed you feel because i feel it, too. And so do tens of millions of americans who invested their hopes and dreams in this effort. This is painful, and it will be for a long time but, i want you to remember this, our campaign was never about one person or even one election. It was about the country we love. And building america thats hopeful and inclusive and big hearted. We have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought. But, i still believe in america and i always will. If you do, you must accept this results and then look to the future, donald trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead. Our constitutional democracy in shrine, the peaceful transfer of power, we dornt just respect that, we krchi cherish it. We respect and cherish these values, too and we must defend them. [ applause ] let me add our constitutional democracy demands participation and not just every four year but all the time. Lets do all we can to keep advance advanc advancing the causes and values that we all hold dear. Making our economy to work for everyone and not just those at the top. Protecting our country and plant net and breaking down all the barriers that hold any americans back from achieving their dreams. We spent a year and a half bringing together millions of people from every corner of our country to say with one voice that we believe the American Dream is big enough for everyone, for people of all races and religions and form me and women and for immigrants and lgbt people and people with disabilities. For everyone. [ applause ] so now our responsibility as citizens is to keep doing our part to build that better, stronger and fairer america we see. And i know you will, i am so grateful to stand with all of you. I want to thank tim kaine and anne holten to be apart of this journey. [ applause ] it has a joy getting to know them better and it gives me great hope and comfort to know that tim will remain on the front line of our democracy representing virginia in the senate. [ applause ] to barack obama and michelle obama, our country owes you an enormous depth of gratitude. [ applause ] we thank you for your grateful, determ determined leadership that harassment so much to Many Americans and people across the world. Bill and chelsea and mark, charlotte and aiden and our brothers and our entire family, my love for you means for than i can ever expressed. You crisscrossed this country on our behalf and lifted me up when i needed most, even four months old aiden wholl travel with his mom. I would always be grateful to the creative and talented and dedicated men and women and our headquarter at brooklyn and across the country. [ applause ] u poured your hearts into this campaign. For some of you who are veterans, it was a campaign after you had done other campaigns. Some of you, it was your first campaign. I want each of you to know that you were the best campaign anybody could have ever expected or wanted. [ applause ] to the millions of volunteers, community leaders, activists and union organizers, who knocked on doors and talked to neighbors and posted on facebook and even in secret, private facebook sites. [ applause ] [ cheers ] i want everybody coming out from behind that and making sure that your voices are heard going forward. To everyone who sent in contributions as small as 5 and kept us going, thank you, thank you from all of us. And to the young people in particular, i hope you will hear this. I have as tim said, spent my entire adult life fighting for what i believe in. I have had successes and i had setbacks. Sometimes really painful ones. Many of you are at the beginning your professional, public and political careers, you will have successes and setbacks, too. This loss hurts but please never stop believing that fighting for whats right is worth it. [ applause ] we need you to keep up these fights now and for the rest of your lives and to all the women and especially the young women, who put their faiths in this campaign and in me. I want you to know that nothing has made me prouder than to be your champion. [ cheers ] [ applause ] i know, i know, we are still not shattered, that highest and hardest Glass Ceiling but some day and some one will and hopefully sooner than we may think right now. [ applause ] to all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful, and deserving of every chance, an opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams. [ applause ] finally, i am so grateful for our country and all that has given to me. I count my blessings every single day that i am an american. I still believe that as deeply as i ever have that if we stand together and work together, with respect for our differences, strengths in our convictions and love for this nation, i will best days are still ahead of us. [ applause ] because you know, i believe that we are stronger together and well go forward together. [ applause ] you should never, ever we gre regret fighting for that. Scriptures tell us, let us not worry, we shall reap if we do not lose hearts. Lets us not grow weary and lose hearts. There is more work to do. I am incredibly honored and grateful to have had this chance to represent all of you. May god bless you and may god bless the United States of america. [ applause ] [ cheers ] Hillary Clinton speaking earlier. I will be joined by someone in the front row during that speech earlier today, what was it like in that room. Stay with us. Proud of you, son. Ge a manufacturer. Well thats why i dug this out for you. Its your grandpappys hammer and he would have wanted you to have it. It meant a lot to him. Yes, ge makes powerful mhines. But ill be writg the code that will allow those machines to share information with each other. Ill be changing the way the world works. interrupting you cango ahead. T up, can you . He cant lift the hammer. Its okay though youre going to change the world. [ crowd noisewhoa. [ gears stopping ] when your pain reliever stops working, your whole day stops. Try this. But just one aleve has the strength to stop pain for 12 hours. Tylenol and advil can quit after 6. So live your whole day, not part. With 12 hour aleve. Donald trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and a chance to lead. Another pt of Hillary Clintons concession speech earlier today when she called for unity. For more, i want to bring in a man who was sitting right in the front row, joe crawley. In the commercial break, you are tearing up a little bit talking about your family. What was it like to be in that room . Well, out of respect, it was a sad place to be. But, i felt and i am here in new york and i could be there, i wanted to be there for her. I want to be there for my kids and others to let them know that we are okay and things will be all right. I often tell my kids, that my favorite day of americas history is april 16th, 1865, the greatest president died on the 14th of april. I am not comparing what happened last night this early to that tragic day. But, what it reminds us is that no one person is bigger than america. Our country has the Great Fortune of offering hope and opportunity for everyone. Thats not loss even after the results in the election. People need to know that. You spent a lot of time with Hillary Clinton. A short time back in the summer, we saw shots of you at the memorial. You were trolling with her and walking with her and there is pucktures of it. How is she processing this, do you think . How will she move forward on a personal level, this is devastating. She expressed it incredibly well today. She was being opened and honest about her feelings, it is very tough and hard to get pass this but she will. She will and we will. We have to respect the will of the American People. She did win the popular votes but the way our system works is the electoral. I had a 16yearold and i listen to one of the woman in the balcony choked and gasping for air. I thought of my daughter, kind of compartmentalizes and my sons, you know, we are more press s expre expressive of our concerns. We have to get past it. People dont know that. A lot of parents are struggling, how do you move forward . Now, you are going back to congress. You are a democrat. You got to work with this new president and now a republican led senate again. How do you do that . How do you see that playing out . Well, i think that we as we did with president bush, we worked on issues that we agreed on. What are they . Infrastructure and investing in america is something we need to do. How we do that will be the question. How it is paid for is the question as well. Something that needs to be done. Whether we disagree with them, well do it very hard and in calculated ways as well. We have to really refocus on our messaging to the middle class america to working people and people that we stood by and for throughout the history of our nation and somehow that message that we were giving it was not breaking through, i think in terms of this election. It was all about what donald trump has said for the most part or about an email. I know everybody today is talking about peace and working together. I guess i am wondering of the d democrats and colleagues are going to have a ahard time working. He will present some interesting challenges in terms of this election of the verbiage that was used. At the same time, we have toll remember that we do need to come together. We have to respect the results of the elections. I do, i get it. The American People is sending us a message. Both parties are being sent a message. It is not just the democrats but republicans as well. And no more obstructions. Congressman, joe crowlawley, is great to see you. We are keeping an eye on our wall street right now. Well be right back. I work round the clock. I want my blood sugar to stay in control. So i asked about tresiba®. Ask your doctor if youre tresiba® ready. Tresiba® ready stocks back on the rise this around. As we said before the break it is up and down. Joeli talk about what happened when Hillary Clinton and tim kaine spoke today . Reporter there is no secret that a lot of traders here are big trump supporter. There were some boos here when tim kaine and Hillary Clinton came out. The pressure from this election and a lot of these stocks are rising. The dow are now up almost 200 points. What we are seeing from a lot of investors around the world is that there is hope that this short term boos can turn into longterm certainty and a lot of traders are telling me that there will be some deregulations with president elect trump in office. Up of 2 right now and thats something to watch if you are at home. Another thing i found so interesting today is that the companies, like caterpillar and cocacola and boeing, coming together issuing a letter to the next president of the United States, hoping to have more faith and ability to understand what is going to happen, not only in economic intuitions but government intuitistitutions. Now, executives coming together wanting to work with the new president and they got to figure out how. All right, well keep an eye on that number there, of 18612. 34. Well keep an eye on that. Thank you. Donald trump picked up a number of key swing states last night including ohio where he won with 52 of the vote. Compared to Hillary Clinton of 44 . Thats where we find anne thomason. What are you hearing from folks there from voters from trumps victory . Reporter one of the interesting thing is Lorain County is one of those counties in ohio that votes democratic, last night in talking to people who voted for donald trump, they told me they did not pull the lever because hes a republican, they see him as an an tie establishment and politician and candidate. I am here with david aradondo, whos a republican, do you get the sense that was this a vote for the Republican Party or donald trump . There was for donald trump. These followers were as passionate, participants that i have seen in my entire career of politics. It reminds me of a 2008 of what you saw going forward. Obama . Obama. If you went around the county over the weekend or yesterday or today, you see all the trump signs, it was like 52. That was what i was struck. We drew up from columbus and when we got into Lorain County, all says trump. Whats the issues here that drove voters to donald trump. Well, the number one issue is the economy. Lorain has had a steel makiing plant here since 1895, no longer has that plant opened. We only had a pipe mill there. So all of these jobs are gone. A lot of these folks are either unemployed or under employed. There is a lot of economic worries and concerns. David, thank you very much. You know kate, one of the things that people said today is that okay, we are for donald trump, we want more jobs and with want to get out of nafta and dont want the Trans Pacific partnership, hes got four years to do it and if he does not do it in four years, we are looking elsewhere. Kate, back to you. Anne thomason back in ohio. For more, i want to bring you our senator, who won his election last night. It is nice to be with you. I want to know that you have not been with us for a while you have not invited me for a while. By the way, we want to see you in the nightly news more. You withdraw your endorsement after the access Hollywood Tape came out and now hes our president elect trump. I think we can get things done. I heard joe crowley talking about the fact that the election is done and move on. I won Lorain County and 84 counties in ohio and of a simple message, i have been able to get things done and deliver results for ohio workers and trade issues. Thats what people want to see. They dont want to see political rhetoric or partisan ship. They want to see results. Is that what got him lisa mateo it is a broader economic message and a lack of hope and a feeling that you know people are working hard and sometimes two jobs, they cannot seem to get ahead. On the expense side, the big thing in ohio is healthcare as it is in most states around the country and electricity costs have gone up and we have more Energy Things discovered in ohio and regulations in washington making hard for us to use. Our costs have gone up. I think donald trump touches on all of those issues. You been in for a while and you and i go back. I think it is fair to call you an establishment republican, right . How do you work with someone like donald trump and are you concerned that some of your colleague is going to have a hard time given the split . I hope is not. Our job is to work together. I have always worked and always gotten stuff done. You remember that from my time in the house. Thats what the people in the house is looking for. They are looking for people that know how to reach across the isle and accomplish results that are tangible for families. Thats what i hope donald trump is hoping to do with us. Congress crowley just said n infrastructu infrastructure. Where would you start, obamacare right away . I think there are some great things we could do. We talked about tax reforms, lets bring some of that back to the right kind of tax reforms and use some of that for our reforms. And chuck shchumar and i agree n bringing funds back overse seas. Thats a great start of our competitiveness. You have millennial children and they must be in their 20s now . Yes, they are. Are you concerned of their futures and given some of the doubts you had. How can we come together as a nation . The exam pacampaign is behind u. How do we create a better economy and have better hope and opportunity and how do we deal with those who fallen in cracks, too. And issues like human traffics and hprisoner reentry. Finally protecting the country, there is a need for us to rebuild our military and restore some of our leadership around the world. I see that as an opportunity as well. Newly elected ohio senator, rob portman, again, congratulations last night. Good talking to you. Donald trump unprecedented win, how he got here and did the nixons predict this nearly ugh. Heartburn. Sorry maam. No burning here. Try new alkaseltzer heartburn relief gummies. They dont taste chalky and work fast. Mmmm. Incredible. Can i try . She doesnt have heartburn. New alkaseltzer heartburn relief gummies. Enjoy the relief. We are back on a historic wednesday afternoon. 73 days until donald trump becomes the 45th president of the United States. When you talk about the historic nature, there is only one person to go to. Our nbcs news historians and hes been upmost of the night. Nice to see you. You are saying that as a motion of caution. I spent last night outside of philadelphia and at a bar talking to voters. At 2 00 a. M. , Trump Supporters were still there. Why do you think this is happening right now . Well, we tried to get out and had 120 guys out talking to the amish and getting out the amish vote and what you see is people really not falling for the media propaganda spin portraying donald trump as some sort of a monst monster. People saw right through it and decided to make sheer own choice. What happened yesterday and how do you read what happened . Well, it is American History which is when people are unhappy of the policies that the federal government is following that maybe these policies are done for elite and not for them. Thats what Andrew Jackson said in the 1820s. Donald trump, i am not suggesting is the new in carnation of Andrew Jackson but it is a potent appeal and we are seeing that here. It is rare you were saying for a party and obama to hand off to another democrat would be rare of the history of the country. It would have been very hard and thats something we under estimated this last year and how hard it is for a president to get a third term essentially for his Vice President or secretary of state. We saw president obama spoke earlier today of being an american rather than a democrat or republican. Does that all really matter right now . It does given the antagonism. And for them to meet tomorrow and shaking hands. Thats going to happen. Today, on the election of trump was called a repudiation of the Democratic Party. I am wondering what you think of our party system moving forward. If we got the Democratic Party rep repudiated and the Republican Party pretty split, does the system survive . Could we looking at a new system . Well, if the Republican Party continues to be split between the donald trump wing and lets say a paul ryan wing, when the trump wing is led, it is now by president elect trump, that makes a big difference. Chris jansing sent out a letter from Richard Nixon. I dont know if you have seen it. I have tweeted it once. This is Richard Nixon to donald trump. I did not see the program but mrs. Nixon told me that you were great on the donahue show. As you can imagine, shes an expert politics and she predicts that when ever you decide to run for office, you will be a winner. What do you think of that . But, he obviously had an eye and it came true and asham shame fo nixon, he was not around to see it. Thank you, get some rest. Pennsylvanias surprise, trump won the keystone state last night. After the break, we are heading to areas thats instrumental to his win. But its a manufacturing job. Yeah, well ge is doing a lot of cool things digitally to help machines communicate, might want to at least mention that. Im building worldchanging machines. With my two hands. Does that threaten you . No dont be silly. Im just, uh, going to go to chop some wood. With that . Yeah we dont have an ax. Or a fireplace. Good to be prepared. Could you cut the bread . We want the country back. We want the government to work for us. The party is over. Those are two of the passionate trump supporter. He did much better than anyone expected. That coupled with huge turn out in pennsylvania helped push trump to victory. Jacob joins me now from up in scranton, pennsylvania. Are voters surprised by the out come or not . Honestly not here at the barbershop in scranton. You know this is the birth place of joe biden. It is a heavily democratic area. Barack obama won by 27 points. Hillary clinton barely squeaked out a win with three Percentage Points over president elect donald trump. I want to bring in the proprietor of this shop. I have to ask you guys. I was surprised. How come . Its a heavy democratic area. For a republican to pull out a win like that, very surprising. Donald trump made up a lot of ground. I know you are from a more rural area. What did you think . There is a lot of donald trump signs where you live not far away from here. Thats right. What about your friends and neighbors . What were they saying about the results from last night . They were happy. Happy . Very happy. How do you think the country will move forward with president elect donald trump . We can only hope. I get a sense of which way you went. Is this something you have been talking about . I was surprised they felt trump was going to win. They were shifting to be a more red and republican area that is so democratic. We are about five minutes from the closing bell at the new york stock exchange. You are looking at the big board. Stocks are back on the rise after taking a sharp hit of the stunning victory last night. Not available at the moment, but lets look at the big board. She was down on the stock market. We are looking at the number, 255 up. If we take that banner down, we are in near record territory or were a little while ago this afternoon. We will keep an eye on that and as the closing bell comes, we will let you know what happens. That will do it for me this hour. I will see you back tomorrow at the same time. Picking up the coverage. Thanks for that and good afternoon, everybody. Live here in new york. 1,455 days to go until the next president. Im kidding. We wont do the countdown until next week. We have plenty to talk about. The build up is in the books, but there is so much to sort out. A truly, truly stunning upset in the president ial election. Donald trump defying everything that the forecasters said they were looking at. Just about everything in the polls. He will now become the 45th president of the United States and today an emotional Hillary Clinton addressing her shocked supporters with these words. Donald trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead. Now the Clinton Campaign thought they had that electoral map fortified in a bunch of different places. Donald trump obliterated those walls that the Clinton Campaign thought they had set up. How exactly did donald trump put together that surprising path to 270. All the data and the maps. It might work too. I will show you in a minute. One of the things we will be looking at is the rust belt path. Republicans have been dream being that for a while. He showed them how its done. He showed on the agenda. Trump will be making his first trip to the white house as president elect tomorrow. President obama despite all of that campaigning against donald trump, fierce campaigning against him promising a smooth transition of power. I think of this job as being a relay runner. You take the baton, you run your best race and hopefully by the time you hand it off, you are a little further ahead. You made a little progress. I can say that we have done that and i want to make sure the handoff is well executed. Make no mistake, this was maybe the most divicive campaigns we have ever seen. Can this country be put back together and can the government be functional after a Campaign Like this . We will dive into that and the question of congress. The white house turning red last night. The house still in republican control also. House Speaker Paul Ryan celebrating today with these
