In florida, a little victory for stacey abrams. A federal judge ordering officials to review all officials ballots and wait until friday to certify election results. The democrats are hoping for a recount or maybe a runoff thats still too close to call. This is arguably the biggest news of all, arizona sending its first woman to the United States senate, its first democrat in 30 years. Nbc news calling it overnight, Kirsten Sinema defeating martha mcsally. I just called Kirsten Sinema and congratulating her on becoming arizonas first female senator after a hard fought battle. I wish her all the success as she represents arizona in the senate. Senator mccain said, but we have always had so much more in common with each other than in disagreement. It wont be easy and it wont happen overnight. But we can Work Together to meet the challenges our country faces. Nbcs Steve Kornacki is here to break down that historic race for us. Steve, how did arizona end up electing a democrat . Yeah look, there were rumblings if you look back in 2016 and the president ial results in arizona. Donald trump carried the state but only by a couple points. Democrats have been talking for a while about arizona potentially being a target for the future for them. The story here really, its maricopa county, its phoenix, the phoenix suburbs. This is well over half the state populationwise and you can see theres still some votes to come in here, a very late counting state. Sinema did far better in the phoenix suburbs than we were expecting. Thats the difference for her statewide. Sinema going to win this thing. What does that mean in terms of the picture in the senate . Youve got two races that are uncalled. Republicans at the moment with 51, democrats with 47. Weve got the issue in florida with the bill nelson race. Rick scott leading going into the recount. The outstanding ballot issue weve been talking about. Into are floor still uncalled and also mississippi. Of course mississippi now heading into that runoff. Scott ahead here and mississippi typically a republican state. Theyre sitting at 51 and there are on the board at least two possibilities for democrats to increase from 47. Steve kornacki, thanks for that breakdown. Lets talk about one of those states thats right in the middle of the big board, florida. We know that is one the white house is watching closely. Mercy schlap who works at the white house was talking with reporters about that this morning. Check it out. The president has obviously his opinion about it. Its been incredibly frustrating to watch. You have a 12,000vote gap. The other candidate refuses to concede. I think at this point its going to go through the process of the manual recount and the machine recount and well see what happens but were confident that rick scott will be the next senator. Lets get to florida with Kerry Sanders. Broward county is just starting a recount. Youre in the room where its going down. What are you seeing . Reporter well, right now they are in the process of still separating the five pages from the ballot. You have the mailin ballot and the day ballot and they have to take page one out of the five pages because page one has the race for u. S. Senate and for the governor, two of the really important recounts that are taking place here. Once they get them in the machines here, theyll start spinning and the computers, based on the math that ive had with the con vanvassing board, should tabulate at about 170 votes a minute. As steve and as we just heard from the white house, the number that were talking about here, the big number is 12,562. Thats the number of votes that separate governor rick scott from incumbent senator bill nelson. The big question coming from the Nelson Campaign is why in the election here in Broward County which is heavily democratic, why did more people to the tune of almost 25,000 vote in the governors race but skip the senate race . Now, it may be the ballot design or it may be that one of the counting machines like you see over my shoulder just didnt work properly and it missed. At least thats what the Nelson Campaign believes. So this recount which is under way, which is important to underline here, this is state mandated. The law requires it. Its not as if one of the campaigns raised their hand and demanded a recount. State law required the recount. It will have to be done by thursday at 3 00 p. M. Across the state. 8 of the 67 counties have finished their recount but those are the small counties, especially the ones like liberty and franklin, the ones up in the panhandle. Its the larger counties like here in palm beach where theyre going to have to take it right up to the deadline to get it done and then as we heard, the possibility of a manual recount. That means if the numbers all come back and its a quarter of one percent difference between who wins and who loses after the machines do the recount, then they have to do a hand recount but only those ballots that didnt show any sort of vote at all on the computers. It may be that somebody filled in a mark just slightly off or above or did a checkmark. Thats when they look at it and say thats the voters intent. It goes to this candidate or that candidate or we cant determine it, doesnt go to either of them and just toss it. Kerry sanders, live for us there in florida, thank you. Joining me on the set to talk about this, Corey Lewandowski and former Campaign Manager for Donald Trumps 2016 campaign Katherine Lucy and eugene scott. Corey, when we have you on, people go why are you having Corey Lewandowski on . The answer is youre close with the president and you were involved in his election. Arizona is looking tougher for donald trump in 2020 than it was a week ago. Is that a Fair Assessment . It is a Fair Assessment. The big difference in arizona was the wide margin that the governor won, the republican governor won by, the relatively small margin that the u. S. Senator won by. Its uncommon to see those two things happen in a state thats as competitive as arizona. Doug doocy won by an overwhelming majority there. Look, to martha mcsally, the way that she conceded that race was very classy and i dont think well see the end of martha mcsally. I think shell be someone who the people of arizona will see on the ballot again soon. In the administration perhaps . I dont know. Shes got a very historic history, the first female fighter pilot. She ran a great race down there. I think theres a race up there in two years. We know that john kyle, the person appointed to hold the seat for john mccain is not going to serve long term. I think you would see her potentially back on the ballot in two years in arizona. Axios points out when we look at the framing of what has happened in the last week since election day which by the way its like election month kind of given these recounts, listen, without hillary atop the ticket they write midwest states are tough for trump. Southern states are slowly growing more democratic. Long term, the gop should be freaking out. Should you be . Of course not. He did something that has been historically almost unheard of which is gaining u. S. Senate seats in the first Midterm Election. The white house that was lost wait a second. One maybe. Arent you below the bar where you wanted to be . The historical precedence was the last incumbent to gain a senate seat was john kennedy. Regardless of the other factors, donald trump had success and the campaigns where he campaign the most in, florida, missouri, inned in north dakota beat incumbent democrats. Corey says, katherine and eugene, 2020 is looking tougher for donald trump in arizona than it was a week ago. What is the strategy for democrats moving forward . Democrats are feeling more emboldened after these midterms. Especially after last night. Arizona is a big deal. Overall when you take into account the senate, the house races they won, the governors they flipped, state house seats, i think it was perhaps the best midterm showing for them since watergate. This was a big night for them. You heard Kerry Sanders discussion on florida. You have this rhetoric coming from the white house and the president himself that looks to cast doubt on florida following the law. Yeah, and this is resurfacing so many issues that voters had with concerns about voting suppression in florida, in georgia, things people still havent gotten over even since the 2000 election and thats going to motivate people to stay engaged on the left and turn out in future elections to vote against trump and trumpism if this is the approach the white house continues to take to win elections. It doesnt look like the president is ready to back off that approach, no . I dont think were going to see the president back off. The other thing we need to think about when we think about 20, certainly there are warning signs in some of these key states. Were seeing Democratic Energy obviously in some of these midwestern states that took him to the white house but what he assembled was perhaps specific to him. Corey, in your conversations with the president would you recommend that he back off undermining Election Integrity . No, i dont think hes questioning Election Integrity. Hes questioning are all the ballots counted. The margin of victory that senator scott has is being overturned. Theyre following the law. They are following the law but the question was the board of supervisors did not follow the Court Mandate to report the number of votes that transpired on election night. Thats a requirement that the court put in place that they refuse to follow. So everybody wants the votes counted but nobody wants more votes counted than what are supposed to be or illegal votes. Let me ask you quickly, secretary nielsen, there are rumblings that you have been a vocal voice about removing her in the white house. Are you concerned about her fitness for office . I think shes done a fine job. Ive never criticized her. But its a natural progression that after the midterms the president brings new cabinet members in. Weve seen that with jeff sessions. If secretary nielsen would go, i would see someone like pam bondi potentially considered for that position. Okay, thank you very much for coming on to talk again about your experience inside the west wing. Katherine and eugene, let me switch gears to talk about news thats developing this morning, specifically news related to the White House Correspondents Association and to cnn now suing the white house essentially. Six defendants that are now part of a lawsuit. The White House Correspondents Association is backing cnn in that suit in what is really frankly a rare move. It is not often only a few times in modern history that a News Organization has sued the white house for access. This comes after the white house pulled one of the cnn reporters credentials. Thats right. We saw this unfold last week at that press briefing. The Correspondents Association is fully in support of this. The Associated Press put out a statement at the time and continues to believe that the white house should not be in the business of taking credentials away from journalists or preventing them from doing their job. Something i said on the show last week thats accurate today which is several things can be true at once. It can be true that the white house wants this fight and likes this fight with the media. It can also be true that not all reporters behave in the same way at the same time as other reporters do. It can be true that the white house is under some serious fire and facing real questions now about pulling this credential, something thats frankly an extraordinary move that cnn has real concerns about. Indeed all of those things are true. The reality is that this could possibly be the new normal. Thats what thats not okay. Thats why the lawsuit is actually happening. The reality is were not that surprised when you look at the narrative between cnn and donald trump. It was going to get here at some point. While donald trump wants this fight because it does work well with his base who is very antimedia and specifically anticnn, ultimately this is not whats best for democracy. After the break were going to continue the conversation weve been having regarding the potential for another shakeup coming to the president s cabinet. Kirsten nielsen, the Homeland Security secretary, may be on the chopping block. Guess who may be waiting in the wings to take over. Plus, the fire that destroyed paradise. More horrific tales coming in to us today of people fleeing flames. We are getting brand new information from the ground. Well bring it to you next. Information from the ground. This morning the white house at least publicly is being tightlipped about this headline in the Washington Post that President Trump is getting ready to remove Kirstjen Nielsen as Homeland Security secretary. They say the president has been grumbling about her lackluster performance. Jeff, let me start with you here because the president fairly recently had some pretty nice things to say publicly about Kirstjen Nielsen. Watch. Secretary nielsen, you work so hard. Your whole team has been fantastic. I want to share my profound appreciation for our wonderful secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen. I give a lot of credit to secretary nielsen and all the people that have worked. What changed . As you well know, despite that public praise, behind the scenes its a very different story. The relationship between Kirstjen Nielsen and President Trump for months has been marked by tension according to sources familiar with his thinking. He has longviewed h viewed her h loyalist. Remember, john kelly is her predecessor and has been a longtime champion of her career. But more to point, im told that the president views nielsen as the embodiment of all that is going wrong at the u. S. mexico border and that President Trump doesnt understand why she cant more fully and quickly implement some of his ideas that he has about shoring up security along the border. Im told that some of his ideas have been impractical if not downright illegal at times. As you said, the white house has been tightlipped about this. I got to chance to speak with a Senior Communications adviser at the white house briefly this morning. Look at what she had to take when asked about this. Does President Trump still have confidence in Kirstjen Nielsen . Theres no Personnel Announcements to be made at this point. Reporter the department of Homeland Security says the secretary is honored to lead the men and women of dhs and is committed to implementing the president s agenda to protect americans from all threats and will continue to do it. The bottom line, not to sound fatal is tick about it but when it comes to her departure, its a matter of when, not if. Jeff bennett, thank you. Elliott, you know i. C. E. , you know this agency, some of the players involved here. What do you make of it . Its amazing that after the muslim ban, ending asylum and putting kids in cages that somehow secretary nielsen was not extreme enough for the president of the United States on immigration. It seems like her biggest sin was trying to explain the law to the president. This is explained in the Washington Post piece. He would get frustrated when she would explain you cant just take people out of the country at whim. So it hurts the folks who work there because they are career servants who explain the law and explain National Security matters to the president of the United States and to the american people. I think theyre being sidelined through the boss. Corey lewandowski said maybe pam bondi in florida could potentially replace kirsten nielsen. Another, cris kobach. The job security is not great in the cabinet. More extreme, more hard line than nielsen was. To some extent its about how loyal you can be to the president and not how hard core. What the president seems to want is an individual whos going to sideline the career employees and sideline the facts and the law toward a Border Security policy thats more aggressive and without much thought. If Kirsten Nelson leaves, ends up departing or getting fired or resigning or however you want to phrase it by the end of the year, katherine, there will only be four women left at the cabinet level in the Trump Administration. Can you talk to that perception and how much the west wing is looking at that . Thats right. This is not an administration thats put a lot of focus on gender diversity or diversity generally, the top jobs both in the cabinet and the west wing top positions, the inner circle around the president. You saw when he was going to his campaign rallies, it was rare that you saw any women or although in the final days he pulled up Sarah Sanders and kellyanne conway. Thats right. But in general it has not been a top priority for this white house and its not clear that perhaps i think earlier pam bondis name has been thrown out. Its possible they could bring in another woman for this role but its not been a priority for the president. Thats something the Trump Administration should Pay Attention to because when you look at why the republicans lost so many of the women voters this goaround, some of these hard line immigration policies really turned off women including evangelical women who would normally go for trump. Stick around. Much more to come after the break including us heading out west to california to get an update on those Deadly Wildfires as the sun rises on the west coast. Look at that, a lot of folks are getting a look at the devastation for the first time. Back east, one state is planning to take the new acting ag to court. Youve worked so hard to achieve so much. Perhaps its time to partner with someone who knows you and your business well enough to understand what your wealth is really for. So we just got an update in the last few minutes from firefighters in california who say they are making slow but steady progress on those ferocious wildfires eating up hundreds of miles of northern and Southern California. This fire has now killed 44 people across the state, 42 of them in the camp fire in the north, the deadliest fire in state history. Its 30 contained but more than 7600 homes and buildings have been destroyed. Another 70,000 are in the path of the fire. Weve been hearing harrowing tales from survivors including an 11yearold girl who fled the town of paradise with her mother while her father and brother got away in a different car. She says she wasnt sure if she would ever see them again. And i felt like if i didnt make it then i just wanted to say bye or i love them one last time because i didnt know if i would ever see them again. And i was really scared because there was fire everywhere. That is difficult to listen to. Terrifying moments for that family and so many others. Nbcs kathy park is in Southern California in oak park about 45 minutes west of l. A. Kathy, some people now after running from the flames are coming back home to nothing. Reporter thats right. A lot of the evacuations have been lifted here including oak park in Southern California. A lot of the homes have been destroyed including the one behind me. This was your childhood home. First of all, how are you and your family members today . Everyone is safe and evacuated. My family is staying with family friends. I live close by so i came to check on the house and saw what was left of it which was pretty amazing. And you were able to grab a couple of personal items with you. Yes. What are these things that you holding up . This is actually a hand made not hand made but a custom cup that we had and coffee mug and this is actually a copy of my law school contracts textbook. This is in my grandmas room, a Wedding Program of one of my family members. Shell be really happy that stuff like that maybe is salvageable. I know this is a really difficult time for you. I appreciate you taking the time to talk to us. You probably saw all of the papers flying around. These strong santa ana winds, that is the biggest challenge here in Southern California and that continues to be the problem and that could potentially change the direction of this fire and potentially make this fire even worse. But well be monitoring the situation out here. The good news is the containment number is slowly starting to climb. Kathy park, i appreciate it. A possible indictment, a possible recusal and a power play involving the justice department, those are some of the several moving parts in the russia investigation that might create new hurdles for President Trump. Nbc news has learned the state of maryland plans to ask a federal judge to declare Rod Rosenstein the acting attorney general instead of Matt Whittaker, the president s controversial pick. Whittaker will meet with ethics lawyers to talk about whether he should recuse himself from the Mueller Investigation and one man who says he cooperated with muellers team expects hell be indicted for lying, jerome corsi. Hes considered to be the founder of the birther theory and is one of nearly a dozen associates of roger stone who have been summoned by special investigators. Lets get into some of this here. Jerome corsi, whats the deal with him . Corsi told nbc this, i dont recall ever meeting wikileaks founder julian assange. I dont recall ever meeting him or getting information from anyone about what they had but they have all your email and phone records. Theyre very good at the perjury track. First of all, its probably something that you would recall. That doesnt seem entirely credible to me. Let me tell you what a perjury trap is and is not. Lots of people use that term. All you need to do is go into the grand jury and tell the truth and theres no perjury trap. A perjury trap is when prosecutors ask you something completely extraneous to set you up for lying. Hes wrong. You have a lot of discussion about the potential for an indictment coming down as corsi himself is telling anna schefter, my colleague at nbc news, roger stone, of course his associate here also told nbc news, dr. Corsi strikes me as a man who has been squeezed hard but refuses to do anything but tell the truth which is why they might be indicting him. The implication, of course hes getting set up they think. Thats great. Its wonderful that he thinks that. Thats not whats happening. Explain that. By the way, he probably does know hes getting indicted and heres why. If you were my lawyer and i was in trouble, the prosecutors would be having conversations with you, attorney jackson, and they would tell you unless your client plead guilty were going to charge him with the following crimes. You would convey that to me. I would know its coming. So hes not guessing when he says he thinks hes getting indicted. He knows that because prosecutors are talking to his attorney and telling them that. At some point today we expect the state of maryland to ask a judge to overrule the president s decision to make Matt Whittaker the acting attorney general. Can you explain what you see as the significance or not of that court request. Im going to get a little nerdy on you. Get nerdy. Thats why we like you. Lets see how you feel at the end of this. In order to bring a lawsuit you have to be able to show that you would be harmed in some way. If you wanted to sue me you have to show that i had harmed you either financially or physically, something bad happened to you the state of maryland has to show that something bad is happening. That they would be harmed, that it would be harmed. Thats called standing. Having not yet seen the lawsuit, its hard for my small brain to imagine what the harm is to maryland, what standing they have to bring the suit. In any event, whittaker is a temporary appointment. No more than 210 days. Even if they do have standing and the suit can go forward, it may not be resolved before the clock runs on Matt Whittaker. That wasnt too nerdy, the right amount of nerd. Appreciate it. After the break, Monica Lewinsky opening up in a new documentary 20 years after an affair with former president bill clinton. We are all about politics on this show but that doesnt mean we can ignore some big Business News thats just coming in to us on amazon and where its going to put its new headquarters. Tom costello is in our washington bureau. This big announcement now official from amazon just in the last few minutes. The most highly anticipated Business Announcement probably in decades and as expected, amazon announcing it is going to split its socalled hq 2, headquarters 2, between long island city, new york, the Greater New York city area, and Northern Virginia in arlington, the crystal city area right across the river from washington d. C. Amazon announcing it will split evenly between those cities 50,000 employees, billions of dollars expected in economic stimulus, and then in addition this was unexpected. It is also opening an Operations Center of excellence it says in nashville. We expect 5,000 jobs there. The issue with these two cities, Northern Virginia and new york city, is that they both deal with a lot of congestion, a lot of people, trouble with affordable housing. Those are elements theyve got to overcome. But the obvious benefits to amazon, especially in the washington d. C. Area, that jeff bezos, the owner of amazon, owns the Washington Post, he owns a very large home here in the washington d. C. Area. Northern virginia was thought to have an edge all along for a variety of reasons including east coast infrastructure. Now the official decision, new york city and Northern Virginia both getting the equal treatment from amazons hq 2. Tom, thank you much. Monica lewinsky, the woman once at the center of one of the biggest political scandals in u. S. History now says she has something shed like to say to Hillary Clinton. After years of relative silence about her relationship with then president bill clinton, Monica Lewinsky is talking about it with vanity fair, saying, if i were to see Hillary Clinton today i would summon up whatever force i need to again acknowledge to her how sincerely sorry i am. It comes days before the release of what is expected to be a bombshell documentary called the clinton affair in which Monica Lewinsky participated, sharing private details about how her relationship with bill clinton began and ended. Its not as if it didnt register with me that he was the president. Obviously it did. But i think in one way the moment we were actually in the back office for the first time, the truth is i think it meant more to me that someone who other people desired desired me. Joining me now, political reporter jonathan allen. He wrote the book on Hillary Clintons campaign shattered. Also, Katherine Louie and eugene scott. Jon, you know the clinton world here. Monica lewinsky references an interview from here on nbc who spoke with former president bill clinton and remember he asked about the apology. Clinton got very sort of defensive and prickly about it and Monica Lewinsky writes about how she feels disappointed not necessarily by bill clinton but for him. Yeah. That was a terrible moment for president clinton, that interview. Its interesting that Monica Lewinsky says that shes apologizing or would like to apologize to Hillary Clinton now as she has done before because the person who owes Hillary Clinton an apology is bill clinton, not Monica Lewinsky. There were no heros in this story. The other interesting thing i find in the vanity fair piece is Monica Lewinsky talks about empathy and you sort of wonder if she truly had empathy for Hillary Clinton if she might not be participating in documentaries about this affair. She talks about how she feels like it is her power now in the year after the me too movement to reclaim her own story, after having had her story, she feels, taken from her for so long. She spent i think she said 20plus hours with the people who made this documentary voluntarily talking with them about all this in order to be able to be the author of her own story. Yeah, and she frames it in a Historical Context that for generations men have often told womens stories and she wants to tell her own story. You see of course theres been other vehicles telling this story recently. Theres a slate podcast at the moment, slow burn, about this affair. Theres heightened interest in it. In this me too movement theres been a reframing of how people think about it. Theres interesting details in this thing too. She talks about how in order she was being told that in order to avoid charges herself she had to have roar recoecorded phone maybe wear a wire. These are details just now emerging from a story that was insanely covered 20 years ago. Its no surprise shes seeing this situation differently. Shes older and wiser and knows about life. She was an intern at the time. The culture has changed. This is how we would expect most people to look at a situation like this after some time of reflection and learning what life is about and responsibility. I think theres a lot of pressure to see if Hillary Clinton will look at it differently. Katherine mentioned slow burn. You have the docuseries coming out. Why is it two decades later the Public Interest seems to not have waned . A couple things. The clintons stayed on the public stage for the last 20 years. Hillary clinton ran for president twice. Bill clinton and Hillary Clinton are still out in public. Theyre doing a tour right now. Part of it is them continuing to be in the public sphere. Part of it is this massive historical moment that we had 20 years ago, i think everybody remembers where they were at that time when that was breaking. For me i was in college. Someone may have been at lower points historical moment that were in now. Women being elected and weve seen a protest movement of women since the election of President Trump. This new documentary by the way premieres on sunday. It airs over three nights. Jonathan allen, thank you for coming on. Katherine, eugene, stick around. Its been one week into the midterms. Whos up, whos down, whos admitting theyre thinking about a run. Thats after the break. Eyre tht a run. Thats after the break comfort. What we deliver by delivering. The new Capital One Savor card. Earn 4 cash back on dining and 4 on entertainment. Now when you go out, you cash in. Whats in your wallet . The last votes still have not been counted in the Midterm Election as you know from watching this show. Weve got our first hints, the nods and one flatout announcement of a democratic run for 2020. Over the last 24 hours alone, heres what we saw. For me the sole thing i have to consider, that i have to think long and hard about, is whether this is what im called to do. Not just to govern but to prepare for 2020, a blueprint where the focus is on workers. I will stand with the working class citizens over all else. If they dont like it, hit the road. [ chanting ] lets bring in pbs news hour correspondent Yamiche Alcindor and katherine and eugene are still with me. Democrats put together a list of whos looking at it, pondering, whos tipping a toe, a leg into the waters here, whos bathing its easier to talk about whos not. What do you think the midterms have done to inform these Democratic Candidates if anything . Or do you think this ship was sailing long before the midterms hit . I think this ship was sailing long before midterms but i think the midterms taught a lot of democrats that they can do and be as progressive that they want to be. The message is that the people who the establishment thought, youre not the person that the party really thinks should be running, those are the people who a lot of times got the seats. You saw people like joe hawley go down for a 29yearold whos going to be the youngest woman in congress. People are saying i need to be fully myself and go with my gut and instincts and not listen to donald trump as much. I agree that thats one piece coming out of it but also the thing with this midterm is there were so many different kielnds races in different races. Like amy klobuchar. So midwestern democrats are pointing to wins in michigan and wisconsin as examples of how to run a more to the center race and then people the more progressive congressional candidates are pointing to this is what we have to do. So i think theres a real debate which has been going on for a while about what kind of democrat you need to run. Theres a talk about a risk of having a crowded field. I think about when i covered the republican primary in august, summer of 2015 and there were 753 republicans running for president , there were just so many people. Primaries can work in a crowded field, right . Absolutely, and we shouldnt be surprised if the field is crowded. The reality is the demographics are trying to reach a broad, Diverse Group of american p population. The question is who can speak to everybody. The reality is democrats are trying to reach a way Broader Group than the republicans are, and so thats going to be a much more difficult race for them. Theres also the question of the incoming congress, right, because lets look at the makeup, the most diverse in history for democrats, more than a 1 4 lawmakers of color, most of them democrats. Do you think voters sent a message about what they want to see, and who they should put forward as president ial picks. The voters said stop talking about diversity and have diversity. I have candidates who cover the hispanic section, the black section, and the suburban message. Democrats and voters are saying bring me someone who looks like me, who has lived like me. There are a bunch of messages but the number one message that came out of the midterms is be genuine and be yourself. I interviewed richard ojetta, a democrat who voted for trump in west virginia. He said you can throw stones and i like coal, but he never answered the question. Thats going to be a question he asked over and other again. And your answer for your vote for trump is i like coal, maybe workshop that around to have a compelling necessary. I think its going to come down to people feeling like they have the receipts. You can show receipts and say this is who i have been for the longest time. This is my message. This is what i believe in because of these things i grew up in and know about. Yamiche alcindor also a pleasure to have you here. I have been talking to Democratic Leaders in arizona, and have their eyes set on the seat vacated by mccain. No not even just purple. They saw some gains in the legislature and City Councils and School Boards and they think the tide is turning, and the joe arpaio, jan brewer era may be over. Congress is back today. Lame duck session. One of the things the president really was pushing before the election was wall funding, whether he would go as far as shutting the government down over getting the money he wanted. I hear that, i mean, he is obviously still trying to get as much money as he can, but a couple of people ive talked have expressed skepticism he would go all the way to a shut down. Were watching to see just what kind of levers he will try to pull there. Theres also the sentencing reform issue, the potential bipartisan deal. Jeb bu Jared Kushner is set to brief the president. It was a bellwether contest with 2020 implications. Did President Trump cost that seat. Another key race hanging in the balance, the fight for florida isnt finished. And on the record, Monica Lewinsky speaking out and telling all in a new interview detailing her affair with former president bill clinton. Also what she would say to Hillary Clinton today, and book club, former First Lady Michelle Obama continues to make headlines with her candid new memoir, it hits book shelves. Were going to talk to her longtime chief of staff and her social secretary about the revelations. Well get to that in a moment, but we start with a tale of two senate seats. In arizona, democrats flipped the republican seat. Its their first win in that state since 1988. Also its the first woman elected senator there ever. President trump won arizona by about two points, but the win may not be just a win for senate democrats, it may portend a crack in the sun belt as a whole, ahead of 2020, in florida, far different. Republicans measuring their drapes as they cry fraud. Republican rick scott will be in d. C. Attending new member orientation for senators, this a day after ron desantis denounced his transition staff for governor both ahead in recounts in the sunshine state. Also both of them embroiled in a republican fight about unfounded allegations of voter fraud. It is a fight being led by President Trump and its one that could preview a strategy for 2020, if its close, swear its being stolen. Democrats, though, having none of it
