Jones is out with a new web video reminding everyone of the moore accusers. The list is glrowing. They were girls when roy moore pursued them. Witnesses of his disturbing conduct. Will we make him alabamas senator . From huntsville, alabama, well be reporting. And the president is spending the holiday in maralago. Why this change of someone near the top . Reporter exactly, ali. New this afternoon, Communications Director john rodgers left the campaign. Hes no longer with it. You should know this is the second communicationses director to depart the campaign. The first Communications Director left after the runoff victory. I should note that what is, i think we should take away from this, the fact there are just six individuals working on roy moores campaign. A Typical Senate office consists from 25 to 40 individuals. Looking at this, youre trying to come up with, what does a Campaign Look Like and ultimately come to with roy moore just a month from now were to go to the u. S. Senate . Ali. Interesting, vaughn. Wherever you stand on the roy moore matter and whatever you think of roy moore, being a Communications Adviser on that campaign, particularly with a small staff, has to be a very tough job right now. Reporter yeah. I mean, theres an inundation of local press, international press. A focus on this campaign. This individual, john rogers, is from alabama. Working in the state senate prior to this. Havent had a chance to talk to john about the decision to no longer be a part of the campaign. Obviously, eyes are on this k n campaign and suddenly theyre without a Campaign Adviser and the Senior Adviser got back to me. Two others are actually commentants from florida here in alabama now. Really, just four alabamians actually working on the Roy Moore Campaign a the this point. And to Peter Alexander near maralago. 24 hours ago as the president got on the hospital to get on the plane to go to maralago decided to engage reporters. Well know whether the plan was to sort of mostly kind of endorse roy moore or just did that off the cuff, but he did it. 24 hours ago, the nair trrrativ change. The president said having an accused person, somebody accused of sexual impropriety would actually be better than having in the president s words, a liberal. Well, ali, to be clear, this is not the first time in his first ten months of office the president contradicted senior aides. Remember, just a couple days ago Sarah Huckabee sanders, press secretary, said, in fact, this president believed it should be left to the people of alabama to decide who their next senator should be and of course as you noted we saw President Trump come before the cameras yesterday and in fact defended roy moore. Casting doubt on moores accusers. This was notable not just because it went against what Sarah Huckabee sanders had said, really, it went against what the republican establishment tide had been saying. Senate Majority Leader Mitch Mcconnell among others paul ryan as well. Basically saying they believed moores accusers and thought he should get out of this race. The president , though, in further explaining his position revealed a little of the way he views this. Perhaps through the same lens of the predicament he faced during the course of the campaign with allegations against him from more than a dozen women of sexual misconduct. He denied it and highlighted, moores denials as welltake a listen. He totally denies it, says it didnt happen. And, you know, you have to listen to him also. Youre talking about he said 40 years ago this did not happen. Reporter it was also interesting as we listened to the president yesterday. He described women as being very special. He said, in fact, his words, this is a very special time that he was very happy so many women were coming forward in this new sort of climate in this country right now to share their stories having been victims of Sexual Harassment or sexual miskungt of any kind. Still as we speak of the president today, ali, he tweeted this morning he would be working the phones over the course of the week describing the winter white house. Spent most of the day at his golf club. At least so far today. We cant confirm he actually hit the links. We know as the white house is now confirms the president will host a meeting in some form next week. Sources familiar to the meeting tell us four leading members of congress, nancy pelosi, chuck schumer, democrats, mitch mcconnell, paul ryan, the republicans, will be coming to the white house on tuesday to talk about the legislative agenda for the waning days of this year. They need to get, fund the government by december 8th and, of course, the president and republicans want to get tax cuts passed before christmas. Back to you. To vaughn a second. Vaughn, al. Com found an interview moore gave over the summer talking how he met his wife. Lets listen. All right. Vaughn, we dont have that right now and will get to that, and get back to you on that. For now, leave it there. Peter alexander, west palm beach, florida, Vaughn Hilliard, huntsville, alabama. Continuing a conversation i started having yesterday, even more women came forward to accuse former news anchor charlie rose of sexual misconduct. Three women who work at the network came forward with new allegations from cbs. Rose was fired yesterday and dropped by pbs and bloomberg, which broadcast the charlie rose show happen less than 24 hours at least eight women accused the anchor of groping and unwanted sexual advances. A former intern for the charlie rose show is shiring an uncomfortable experience she had with him at his home in an exclusive interview with nbc news. He said, have a seat. You know. Relax, and he proceeded to turn on the film secretary, which is a, you know, sexually involved film involving s m unfortunately. And he had me watch the scene that i probably kind of wlokwlok walked out the scene with james spader, very sexual and vileants. Roses former cohost on cbs this morning gayle king is applauding the women in a have come forward. What i do hope is that people will speak up and that companies are sending a message of we have zero tolerance for this kind of behave are and that is a very important thing. Charlie rose has yet to comment since being fired. He issued an initial statement apologizing adding he doesnt believe all the accusations are accurate and later caught on camera saying his actions werent wrongdoings. A new allegation against michigan Democrat John conyers, the Detroit Free Press learned another longserving house member initiated a lawsuit in federal court and dropped it after learning the case wouldnt be sealed. She alleges the 88yearold conyers made sexual advances towards her with comments and touching. Reportedly she wanted the case sealed to protect someone she said is known for his tireless civil rights work and didnt want to irreparably harm him. This comes a day after conyers reached a settlement with another staffer in 2015. Conyers vehemently denies the allegations but would fully cooperate in an investigation that has already begun. And his hometown is calling for him to step down for using taxpayers money to bury the scandal. That interview talking to Vaughn Hilliard about in alabama. We have vaughn back. We were saying, al. Com, a news website throughout alabama found an interview moore gave over the summer in which he talked about how he met his wife. Lets listen. When i was an attorney, many years before we got married i saw her at a Dance Recital, and i was standing oh, at the back of the auditorium and i saw her up front and i remember her name, kayla kaiser. Kay, but i remembered that, and didnt meet her there. I left and it was, oh, gosh, a et years later or something. I met her, and her name i remembered, kk. Havent i met before you . Of course, she was younger. She says i dont think so. Moore wrote in his book he met his wife officially at 23. He was 37. In that interview eight years before that meeting he first took notice of her at a Dance Recital which means she would have been 15 or 16 years old. Vaughn . The context of the discussions of roy moore and his contact with people, women who awere vey young girls, has the are moo campai re campaigned reacted to that . The Moore Campaign stug astr to be responsive. So no. Not to this point. Who has responded, doug jones, democrat in the race. Released a video in which the nair yate e nair ya narrator says they were girls when moore pursued them and now women. Talking to voters over the last several days, just got done talking with a dozen others. Youre starting to hear more and more increasingly that, disturbance about these allegations, and a lack of confidence in roy moores testament they are not sure and not real. I want to play you a sound with a couple republicans we just spoke to here in huntsville. I cant bring myself to pad a a democratic minority that could potentially be a majority. So to me, i think its, an educated voter, understand how civics and government work, you realize youre not really voting for one guy or the other, youre voting for a majority or minority party. True or not true. If its true, no way. If its not true, then, yes. How will you know . Thats the problem. How will anybody know . Because nobodys confronted him. Nobodys investigating whats true and whats not true. Reporter ali, we have 20 days until the special election at this point and many are insistent theyre not voting for doug jones the democrat yet cant come to grips voting roy moore at this point in time. Whether they show up and put the check mark next to the republican name is to be seen. And it affects the polling we see, because it means that the behavior in this election may be different than what traditional polling would be. Vaughn, thanks for your great reporting in huntsville, alabama. I want to bring in lisa green. Lisa and i were in in the middle of a conversation yesterday when we were interrupted by the president and took it in a different direction. Lisa, good to see you and i want to continue the discussion with you and talk about congress. Ask our director to put on the wall next to us that graphic that indicates the process by which people in congress who wish to make a complaint have to go through. And just take a look at that. One doesnt even have to go through it with a script to understand its a pretty complicated process. Now, ive been on social media, talking to lawyers who say, theres a reason these processes are complicated and take a long time, but theres a line between being complicated and important and just dissuading women from ever complaining. Right. We talked about that yesterday. At a certain point the complexity of this process, its good you have graphics here. If you wrote it out in words you couldnt fit it on the screen. Right . Thats right. How do you draw a balance . Obviously allegations they need to be proven. People deserve to have a voice in what happens and sometimes allegations are wrong. On the other hand, we already know that most women who are the victims of Sexual Harassment at work dont even bother to take step one. Right. Because it doesnt look you cant see the end. When youre looking at this graphic, ask you to put it up again. When looking at look at all that, if youre going to make a complaint, it might be easier to say im just not going to. Looks daunting and hard to get through. Its a function i think of a situation where title 7, the law thats meant to end discrimination in the workplace and ultimately what were talking about. Right. Equal treatment for men and women under the law. Yeah. Through the years led to court cases and corporate decisions that have created sort of encrusted steps that companies can take. That Congress Might take a. Company or Congress Gets to say, we have a system. Its published. You know what you have to do if you want to get through it. In the end, it may not consider the idea someone would actually care to do that. May just carry on taking the behavior theyve heard or not saying anything about it. Theres a disincentive to come forward and people entre h entrenched may well believe the culture will protect them. Something else popular, training programs. You hear from cbs on out, redoubling their commitment to training. Experts are starting to look at training. Theyre finding something not surprising. People roll their eyes. An episode in the office and an the training if not supported at the top, can even have the opposite effect. Imagine a situation youre in the seat and a Corporation Getting a training module, what they call them and in the training module the man is in power. The woman a subordinate and theyre at a cocktail party. Title 7 was never meant to be an etiquette guide. Doesnt govern social behavior. People mistakenly think i cant hang out with a woman. Cancel the christmas party. Thats not what the law was meant to prohibit. Men and women should be able to work equally in the workplace. It enderses more unequal and unplerchlt. Some of the ways, byzantine, the way its approach pd really meant to change the landscape. And it is amany of the things weve heard about recently did not take place even within the construct of a workplace. But it is a power relationship and we dont how do we address it . Is this going to be addressed legally or cullturaly . I think the law has catching up to do, because were seeing now a fasttrack system, but happening in, i guess what youd call glamorous occupations. Right . Hollywood, television news. Other places where wrongdoers will get a lot of press attention. Not factories or people with single proprietors. Right. If the law makes it harder for women who have been harassed to come forward, theres a fairness argument for the accused but also a disincentive and unless women can come forward publicly. You heard in the conyers story that accuser didnt want to besmirch his name and couldnt guess confidently. All of these things inhibit the free flow of information. Im sure that woman meant it. Had been wronged and didnt necessarily want to hurt john conyers. We heard that from the intern who went to charlie roses home. Didnt think he was a bad person but didnt think it was appropriate behavior. The person who will bring an accusation understands theyre going to fall under a bolder that will create a lot of difficulties. Absolutely. Most workplaces stress harmony. If youre the person saying this isnt harmonious, the burden of proof falls on you, even if it shouldnt, to make the case youre not trying to ruffle feathers. You just want whats fair, entitled what youre entitled to under the law, but good luck actualturaly unless youre well supported at the top. I want to know what percentage of women who bring allegations end up ten years later feeling happy about it . Or at the same workplace. Right . A lot of work to be done. Thanks for coming back to finish the conversation. Were not close to finished. Navy plane went down just southeast of japans okinawa island. Making a routine flight to the uss Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier. Eight of the 11 were rescued and in good condition. Still looking for the rest. President trump tweeted earlier writing monitoring the situation. Prayers for all involved. For the latest, joined from the pentagon. Courtney, where do things stand with the search and how this aircraft went down . Reporter we dont know anything yet exactly why it went down. Weather was decent. Doesnt seem to be a factor but all under investigation. The Japanese Defense minister said earlier to a group of reporters the u. S. Navy told him there was some sort of engine trouble, but the u. S. Navy is not confirming that. Saying, continuing to say its under investigation. You mentioned, ali, there were 11 passengers on that c2 aircraft commonly called a cod. It lands and takes off on aircraft carriers, brings passengers. Brings mail for the sailors out to sea on the aircraft carriers. There were 11 passengers. Eight have been rescued. Picked up by helicopters and taken to be uss Ronald Reagan as you said, they are now expected to be in condition. The three more u. S. Navy sailors are still missing. The search efforts continue despite the fact it is dark there. The middle of the night off the coast of okinawa. But there are u. S. Navy aircraft, surveillance aircraft, p3 and p8 and u. S. Navy helicopters and ships there all still searching for these three sailors. A double engine prop. So typically, that second engine means you have redundancy sometimes for power. When an engine failure generally means at least another engine to carry you forward and land. Interesting to learn what happened bp more important what is happening with these sailors not found. Courtney, keep us posted. Hear anything get back to us as soon as possible. And shocking news from uber. The ridesharing giant exposed a massive hacking. Millions of drivers. How much they paid the hackers to keep quiet. What was stolen and what uber is saying about all of it after the break. First, President Trump is tweeting about liangelo ball and two other uke la basketball players released from china after being arrested for shoplifting. Lavar ball refused to thank the president and earlier today trump tweeted. It wasnt the white house. It wasnt the state department. Lavar is just a poor mans version of don king but without the hair p. You could have spent the next five to ten days and thanksgiving in china. Shop lifting is a really big deal. Especially in china. What . as long as sloths are slow, you can count on geico saving folks money. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance. Uber is facing more allegations. Attorney general of massachusetts looking into how okay uber handled a hacking attack last year. 57 million affected. 7 million here in the United States. The data breach included addresses and phone yubnumbers. The existence of the breach was first reported by bloomberg tuesday. Ubers new ceo also acknowledged the breach in a blog post. He promised the company was taking steps to address the issue and assured customers theres been no evidence that the data has been misused. More on this, Pennsylvania Attorney general josh shapiro joins me. Good to see you. Thank you for being with us. We know places get hacked, dont like they do. People get upset when they find out a economy lost their information, but why does there ales seem to be a second layer of delay between when companies are hacked and when they tell those of us whose information was lost . Its always the coverup, ali. There are several layers to this bree breach as with the equifax data breach were looking into. We want to find out obviously what occurred. How many peoples data was compromised. We think about 600,000 americans, their drivers license information, at least, compromised. Then also we want to figure out what happened that led to the breach . See, i think this is really a story not just about the data breach but about corporate malfeasance. Corporations makes conscience decisions not to invest in the software to keep our data safe. Saw it with equifax and seeing it again with uber. Its fine i dont have the iphone x or 10. My choice. If you are handling other peoples financial information, credit cards, drivers license, email, phone numbers, how are we supposed to regulate companies with this information do the right thing in terms of what youre talking about, keeping the Software Upgrades up to speed, and then telling us when things go wrong . Can we regulate this . I dont know if we can regulate. Although more is needed. Looking at balance sheets. How much offer doll of every dox or uber or other companies actually invest in operations. In their Technology Security systems. We know with equifax it was woefully low. Based on early information were seeing from uber, they didnt pus enough dollars behind that. Why . Putting too many dollars in their pocket. And the reality is, the American Consumer deserves to know that if theyre handing over their credit card information, if theyre trusting a company like uber with their personal data, that uber is investing the necessary amount of money to keep that data safer. And until we set a clear example with equifax, with uber, with others, to state attorney generals and law departments these breaches are going to continue. We have to make sure these Companies Put a premium on investing in the security of the American Peoples data. I dont carry cash because i do everything i do electron electronical electronically, credit cards or on my phone. Every one of these apps has that stuff. Equifax, where are we . Youre one of the attorney generals takinged lead . Up to 48 attorneys general now in the equifax data breeach and received many, many documents were combing through to understand when the breach actually occurred. What data was actually lost and ultimately will hold them accountable in a number of different ways. Well make sure they pay up to the individuals and the states affected. And most importantly, we want to change corporate behavior. Back to your question about regulation. Right . We want to see these corporations. We want to see these massive entities actually invest in their infrastructure so that our data is secure, and thats the kind of relief the American People want and thats what were going to demand of Companies Like equifax and okayer. The storys the same, ali. The storys all the sail. They put an extra dollar in their pocket at the expense of the American People and were going to hold them accountable. Josh good to talk to you as always. Thank you for staying on top of these stories. Josh spa her shapiro. Attorney general of pennsylvania. And how many moscowlinked ads did you see . Most who saw these things didnt necessarily like a troll oh, michael, got me . I can hear you. Yes. Most who saw it didnt necessarily go to those pages or like those pages. Saw it because maybe you posted it and i follow you. Yes. Its very interesting. The argument in favor of what facebook is doing, coming clean, giving an opportunity to see if you were hoodwinked or led to like something or accidentally liked something. The argument against it is that it seems theyre promising a portal. A way to research on your own initiative. We probably can say about facebook is when they really want you to know something they do a push notification. What does that mean . Send an email, alert you. Put it in their timeline and pushes to an alert. Every time someone has a meal, goes on vacation, comments on a photo someone else took youre not connected to, they send you a push notification. When they really mean it, they send a a push notification that you just read a fake article. Yeah. You read a fake article. Did read one in the past. You liked something that was fake. You were interactive with the Internet Research agency. Love the russians. Calling them an Internet Research agency when its a propaganda bogus agency. Dont just pick on facebook. Any social media company, when they really immediate it, push you a notification and let you know affirmatively. Theyre waving their hand, maybe. Same has been said, one of the reasons were talking about this today. I write a lot about prive is p controls. It they meant it, more and more push notices. Over time they did that that. In some ways could have done it a lot sooner. The argument against what theyre doing now. Roger mcnamee often said to me, early investor in facebook, the reason it isnt getting fixed the way most think, this is how facebook designed it to work. The idea, get you addicted to your phone, to the posts, to every bit of movement. Everything you just suggested warning you youre looking at bogus content, theyre not looking to warn you off of facebook. Yeah. One of the things probably that will become of this, my guess. Just prognosticating here, theyll have a portal. Assuming what weve read is about whats right. Theyll have a portal. Few people will go into the portal and look around for information by themselves and then the facebooks of the world will say, see . Look . No one cares about russian meddling because no one looked in the portal. Thats the topsyturvy world. Imagine if you had to dig around every time wanted to see a friends photo . A much less engagement. And Something Else to be said. Heard from the a. G. Of pennsylvania about uber youre covering. Interesting uber is now labeled the bad boy of Silicon Valley and other Companies Get a pass. Like the media and politicos dont take other companies to tank in the same way theyre taking, say, uber to task for things that are as bad or perhaps worse on that could be perceived in the same light. For some reason kind of the Halo Companies that are the white Knight Companies so to speak are just getting a pass. They solved it, did it. Somehow that feels a little unjust to me. Either you should be less critical of uber or more criticing of the others. Ive been critical of uber a long time. Talking to you a very long time. Of course. Youre very up front about that, ali. Even though i use it a lot. Probably what the issue is and i use equifax and dont like when they lose my information. Net frueof neutrality. Fuzzy. We dont want no rules just dont what the regulations in place under the obama administration. More freedom to do more with the way we provide content but wont become the world freaks think it would be . A powerful question. Great. The obama rule reversed by the fcc, your comcast, at t bill will go up. Feel comfortable charging end users more for the internet. One of the most interesting views ive read, heard and thought about here in Silicon Valley, thats not the problem. Actually the problem is not going to be theyll raise your bill. We predict theyre keep your bill the same, but if you want less internet, theyll offer you a deep discount. Imagine instead of 100 from your web provider, a 10 version but only facebook. How can they afford to do it . All you get is facebook . Might be subsidizing comcast or at t. Its why i left my Investment Firm and resolved to use my savings for the public good. But here we are nine years later and this president and the Republican Congress are making a bad situation even worse. They wont tell you that their so called tax reform plan is really for the wealthy and big corporations, while hurting the middle class. It blows up the deficit and that means fewer investments in education, health care and job creation. Its up to all of us to stand up to this president. Not just for impeachable offenses, but also to demand a country where everyone has a real chance to succeed. Join us. Your voice matters. East. Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Al Hariri is holding off on resigning for now. Surprising. It comes weeks after he broadcast his surprise resignation from saudi arabia in protest of what he called iranian meddling in lebanon. For more, part of a much bigger story you know ive been talking to you about. Why not to bring in one of the, the best experts on this. Romney corey, senior Public Policy fellow and journalism professor at the American University of beirut. Joining me now. Treat to have you in person. Thank you. The perspective i want to put this in is that the middle east we all know is a powder keg. It is an unstable region. And saudi arabia and iran are big forces there, and now we have this new Saudi Arabian crown prince who seems to be in the words of al sufan high on the show the other day seems to be working with President Trump. Jared kushner seems to have given him license to do some things, some think are good and some think destabilizing an already voltime region . Three things happening simultaneously. Lebanese politics, always complex. The saudi situation with the crown prince creating a power structure mirrors the autocrats of the last 40 years. All power in hands of one person. Not done that way in monarchies, must more diffused and third, the trump factor. The president and kushner his soninlaw, those two people working in the middle east and in that contrary that they dont really understand. Doing things theyre really not capable of doing. That combination of things together creates a new alliance in the region between arab autocrats, the netanyahu government and the United States to counter iran, fight terrorism, support arab autocrats and make a lot of money. Interesting. If everybody were to agree, as donald trump and, by the way, benjamin netanyahu, and the crown prince and the king of saudi arabia would have you believe, that iran is the single biggest problem in the middle east, and is the only thing to be paying close attention to, then you start to see Something Else develop. Right. Is that a fair statement . I mean, i understand irans an issue. Is iran that much of an issue everybody should realign their Foreign Policy around it . Well, i and virtually all experts in the region of the world i talk to, outside of the United Arab Emirates in saudi arabia dont think is iran is as big a menace as stated. There are real issues among other arab countries that have to be resolved. Its none a sunni issue. Its an iranian issue. Two big powers not finding way to live together. For a long time. Since the revolution its been worse. Before the shah was able to work his way around nato and the soviet union, im old enough to remember that, they were at loggerheads but kept meeting. Made treatments, had the Security Cooperation and european agreement. Thats what the iranians and saudis need to do. The saudis are terrified of the changes around them and are using the iranians and their allies like hezbollah and others for their proxy for all their fears and trying to push back. The problem is they tried this for about 20 years now and it hasnt worked. Theyve tried to get an israeli arab american alliance.
