Im done being bullied. The president rejecting new sanctions against russia despite his u. N. Ambassadors promise sunday on television. You will see that russian sanction will be coming down. Secretary mnuchin will be announcing those on monday if he hasnt already. They will go directly to any sort of companies dealing with equipment related to assad and cl chemical weapons use. Good day. We have breaking news. There is plane at Philadelphia International airport. Were waiting to get more information. Well have all the latest as soon as we get the Accurate Information about that southwest plane. You see its on the tarmac there. Every one looks to be safe but well update you as soon as we have the latest on the airplane. Meanwhile, Stormy Daniels first Live Television interview appearing on the view. Reveal that sketch for the first time. Can we take a look at that with you . Sure. There you go. To your recollection, is that the person that threatened you in. Absolutely. Were offering 100,000 reward for information leading to the identification of this man and if people go to idthethug gmail. Com. This after mondays explosive revelation. Involving sean hannity. Joining me is robert costa. Welcome all. First of all, harry, take us through the significance of this federal Court Hearing and what she decided regarding Michael Cohen forcing Michael Cohen to reveal his third client. He says hes an attorney. He said they were issues of attorneyclient privileges and then he revealed his third client was sean hannity. Right. It was very dramatic. The cohen in general it was a very broad harvest that the search warrant gathered and there was the suspicion there was a lot of attorneyclient material. The United States said theres not much and said he doesnt seem to be acting like an attorney. Turns out there were three clients hes had. Donald trump. The man who they helped with another mistress kind of suit and whos the third . We dont want to tell you. You cant have any relief. Whos the third . Sean hannity and there were gasps in the courtroom. I dont think it matters very much in the law. Hannity said he had very little interaction with cohen. Nevertheless, they formed an attorneyclient relationship. It seems doubtful that much was gathered by the prosecutors will have anything to do with him. Kimberly atkins, youre an attorney. Youre a journalist. Lets talk about ethics. Sean hannity, going to the mat, depending the president. Going on the attack of the fbi raid of all of Michael Cohens bodes, his office, his home, his hotel and never mentioning that they have a clientlawyer relationship. Hannity down played the extent of that relationship which is problematic for michael cho cohen and cuts dpeagainst any cm in court. If we had a personal relationship, we would have to disclose that. Its journalism 101. In this case it really its a problem for sean hannity in terms of appearances to the extent he cares about that sort of thing. Theres calls for him to step down or fox to act in some way to punish him without acting as the advocate without fulling disclosing his own involvement in that. Robert costa, we have reports ha the president is just furious over these raids on Michael Cohen. Its been obsessing him all week. A lot of other big issues, major issues, Foreign Policy issues. Summit leader today and seems to be, were going to drill down on this later on just a lack of focus and a lot of confusion at the white house. Its a charged moment for President Trump. Talking to some officials at the white house they hope the setting of florida being at maralago, preparing for discussions will turn the president s attention away from the comey book, away from the Michael Cohen episode and the n untolding dramas there. Well have to see what happens on fronts. Theres concern in the president s inner circle that hes liable to do many Different Things as we lashes out and reacts to news reports. Getting controversial by the day. Lets play his response to the criticism of his failure to disclose this critical relationship. Heres the truth. Michael cohen never represented me this any legal matter. I never retained his services. I never received an invoice. I never paid Michael Cohen for legal fees. I did have occasional brief conversations with Michael Cohen. Hes a great attorney about legal questions i had. I guess whether some might question whether Michael Cohen is great attorney. Where do we stand on the federal case . The federal judge in new york is giving them till next week. Shes going to hold another hearing on how to proceed. The very fact that Michael Cohen and his attorneys would go in there demanding they have the right to vet whether there are conflicts of interest here, if the federal government was going to trust them to vet this material seized from his home and office and hotel, they would have just issued a subpoena. They would not have done a raid. They clearly do not trust him to protect the evidence. Thats exactly right. It is cheeky of them. If you read their motion papers, all theyre saying is trump is prominent and it would be fair. The reality is this happens many times a year and there are well established protocols for handling it and theres no reason to think they wont work here. Theres no basis. What does wood have in front of her . The series of proposals to do something a little different put things to spaeshl maa special m give some kind of rights to the defense. Basically theres no way in the world its going to be turned back over to the foxes to guard the hen house and have cohen say in first instance this is impressiprivileged and this isn. The only reason they got search warrant search warra warrant, there was some reason they couldnt trust cohen to cooperate with a subpoena. James comey was back on abc this morning and responding to the president s claim that they broke into these offices. Lets watch. Called the fbi ridaids an attack on our country. It shows me he doesnt know or doesnt kwhcare what the rulf law looks like. Nobody broke in. Its a total distortion of the way it works. The judge in this case which some may remember back in the day, back in 1993, she was under consideration to be attorney general and didnt end up getting nominated by bill clinton. She said the federal prosecutors in this case who are handling it were unimpeachable. This is what happens. Theres a system in place to deal with this very issue. It isnt that the attorneyclient privilege or any claim of impressiprivacy was an afterthought and the standard of giving warrant especially given its somebody close to the president was so high that its clear going in there was a reason that they went in and did this raid the way they did. Prosecutors do this all the time. Defense will have chance to go over it as well and make whatever motions to exclude what they want to later. The idea they would be able to keep this out. At the same time this is the m. O. Of the president. He attacks the investigators when it seems to be against its own interest. Robert costa, you know the internal thinking of this president. Youve covered him so closely. Why is Michael Cohen so important to him . Why is this seemingly so threatening to him legally as well as politically . The president while he was a businessman had many lawyers. Lawyers helped him with financial and real estate transactions but Michael Cohen was a confidant and attorney on personal matters. Cohen has a tendency to record conversations with different people hes interacting with politically and legally. The president has counted on him for discreet matters. Now that his materials have been seized its raise red flags inside of this administration about what could come out. The president hasnt confided to many of his friends and associates about what Michael Cohen has worked on over the past decade. That seems to be a availabvaria people inside the white house. Thanks to all of you. Senator john mccain is recovering from surgery in arizona. On the view cohost megan mccain spoke about his struggle. Im going to be here today and tomorrow and im going to go home to arizona. My dad had emergency kasurgery. Arizona senator said he spoke to senator mccains wife and he is hopeful he will be able to come back to the senate. The story behind the white house sanctions mix up. That lady, these houses yes, yes and yes. And dont forget about them. Uh huh, sure. Still yes xfinity delivers gig speed to more homes than anyone. Now you can get it, too. Welcome to the party. The president has flatly rejected plan to slap new sanctions on russia undercutting his u. N. Ambassador sunday who said it was a done deal. This is the latest example of dysfunction on National Security communication. The white house said dont worry. These sanctions arent coming. That completely undercuts nikki haleys authority at the u. N. And elsewhere in the world. S. You rarely see such a stark difference of version and plans. Nikki haley went on television on sunday and said there will be new sanctions. Not maybe. There will be new sanctions imposed monday by the treasury department. By the end of that day and the beginning of yesterday the president said no, were not going to do that. The white house said it was a misunderstanding on nikki haleys part. She got too far in front of her skis on something being considered but not decided on. Rarely such an example of being on different pages in a public way like this. How much because john bolton is new and they are understaffed because so many people had been pushed out or because we dont have a secretary of state. Pompeo is focused on con for medication hearings or is it just the continuing dysfunction between trump and the National Security team. Its a great example what happened when you dont have enough coordination. Right now they are busy emptying out. Nobody else is coming in. On john kelly is done in florida with the president dealing with things going on down there. Theres some feeling they ill served nikki haley by not keeping her better informed. Thats pretty stunning because in past administrations that you and i have covered, when people go on sunday television they check. Theres been notable occasions when that hasnt worked effectively but they check with the nse, get the talking points. Everybody is on the same page and that kind of coordination is one of the things thats the hallmark of the sunday talk shows. She wasnt freelancing. She was sent tout be face of the administration and be the spokesperson for the strike that happened friday night and saturday morning. They wanted her to give the Administration Line. The Administration Line she gave was not the line from the president of the United States. We have seen this before and this white house in particular where the president is on a different panl than his age th d advisors. On other occasions the president said no. I dont want to go that far. He still maintains he can have a friendship with Vladmir Putin despite the differences between washington and moscow. Just to put an exclamation on this, james mattis giving options and the president deciding not to endpaj russia. To avoid engaging russia when they chose the targets for friday nights attack in syria. That was a high priority for jim mattis to avoid a target during the strike that might kill russian soldiers. There was a real fear of a cycle there. By accident we might kill russia soldiers. That would provoke a response by the russians. They were limited to chemical weapons or believed chemical weapons facilities owned by syria. There werent even syrian troops at end. Thanks so much. Thanks for all of kroyour reporg today. News from philadelphia that we told you about at the top of the show. The Emergency Landing of a Southwest Airlines flight. That flight landing safely after it reportedly, violently depressured when a piece of the jets engine flew into and broke a window. The father of passenger said a female passenger was partially su sucked out of the plane and was pulled back inside by passengers. This was flight 1380 bound from dallas from la guardia landing around 11 30 local time and Emergency Landing in philadelphia. Some were led off with crutches. Well bring you further updates as they come in. We understand tom costello is on the road to philadelphia to cover from the scene. Former fbi director james comey unloading on President Trump in a media blitz escalating war of words with his former boss in an unprecedented public feud. Well wake up in the morning and see the president of the United States is accusing people of crimes without evidence and pronouncing them anguilty and saying they should be in jail. That should wake us all up. Joining us is former cia director. We have never seen anything like this. It all seems to stem from that first comey briefing. You were there. General clapper was there as well. This was the briefing for the president elect of the United States. The fbi director was the designated hitter to take the president s side and tell him what was decided he needed to know. There was this dossier out there done by a former well regarded fbi source in British Intelligence as a private consultant. Their relationship just went off the rails. The president kept returning to this. Bringing it up on subsequent phone calls. Yes, jim comey wanted to make sure the president elect wadss aware of this information to try to let him know theres something out there that could be exploited or leveraged. It was unverified. It was have salacious and sensitive. Given it involved the president elect, this is where investigating a potential crime or issues like this. Thats why jim comey talked to the president elect about it. I think jim comey and fbi felt strongly the president elect had a need to know and wanted to make sure he was aware of this information. It was not used this any way as the basis for the assessment about russian interference. Also he wanted to make sure he understood it was the case. Hes presented with this horrible information. He has to hi tthink the fbi is to get me. It seems that maybe theres way of ro jekti projecting and figu how this hit him. I think donald trump has a prism that he looks at the fbi and cia and intels through. I think he had some jaundiced view of what they might be doing to try to undermine his coming presidency. Theres a lot going on in that transition period from election day to inauguration day. He probably did interpret this as one more indication that fbi and this individual appointed by barack obama is trying to hurt me. That was not the case. Jim clapper and myself want to say we want to make sure the president elect had much insight as possible into what the russians did to interfere in our election, whos responsible for it and jim comey wanted to make sure the president elect was aware of this information in the dossier. Do you have concerns about the president s refusal, inability to view russia in a way that and especially interferen interference in way you would think he would. They have taken some steps but hes not spoken publicly up until recently with the chemical weapons attack. His public position and comments have been puzzling if more of us who have been involved in National Security for years but current officials as well as members of congress. Do you think that putin has something on him . We dont know. Does mr. Trump think that, he heig very well might. I was pleased when he came out strongly and said russia bore a responsibility for some of these Chemical Attacks this syria because of the support that Vladmir Putin has provided to bashar al assad. That was a clear statement that was good. Now hes backtracked. He needs to s ts to be consist strong. Thank you very much. Thanks. Its unconfirmed but its a possibility because of the way airlines are pressurized. Ntsb officials are gather information and deciding whether to launch. They will be looking at the engine to know whether its something with the engine or a one off situation. Well have a lot more coming up. Thanks for your update on that. Well have a lot more throughout the day. Mike pompeo is facing more democratic opposition on the Foreign Relations committee as john mccain, cory booker and others are voicing opposition along with republican rand paul. Its possible he would be the first nominee for secretary of state since 1925 to be reported to the floor for a vote without support from the Foreign Relations committee. This is a critical time on Foreign Policy. Russia an north korea, syria, a host of other issues. Madeline albright. Thank you very much for having me on. I decided it was worth talking about personal experience in this. I am concerned about various things that are happening around the world in terms of steps that are being taken that moouve in e direction of facist ideas. Do you believe that mike pompeo is the right person to uphold values despite serious questions raised by critics on his committee about some of the values he holds. Not believing in gay rights although he said he would uphold homosexual rights but not being as committed to human right, women rights and other concerns that have been core values for the state department. Ive been very concerned about the fact the whole administration is not interested in that and thats one of the things that has to do with my book and the United States has been a leader in going into countries and explaining about the values that americas held on human rights and generally on democracy. Those are the values that are not really expressed well at this point by anybody in this administration. The same time there was a vacancy and theres the lack of a diplomatic voice on the National Security counsel right now. Nikki haley, the u. N. Ambassador, thats a position you held goes on sunday television and says the treasury is going to announce sanctions within russia and shes contradicted by the president of the the United States and his press secretary the next day. How does that stand . I was surprised. The truth is there should be coordination and its a sign of a look of coordination and Decision Making process. The ambassador at the u. N. Is instructed and also a member of the principles committee. I was ploblown away this happen and its a sign the Decision Making process is not working and this is clearly not coordinated. The white house reaches out to russians and say dont worry. Were not going to impose sanctions. This undercuts her authority. I think shes been doing great job at the u. Nn. And pushing back. People dont realize what its like sitting in small room with people you disagree with. Shes pushed back. It does undercut her. I think its a sign the system is not working and the president says one thing about syria and Something Else another day and then about the russians. It doesnt work this way. Were an old country. We know how to make decisions. Im stunned by the lack of Decision Making. When the South Koreans were briefing him about their meeting with kim jongun saying lets have a summit. Before they had even explained what it was that north korea was willing to agree to, the japanese felt completely cut out, blind sided by it. So did the chinese. The japanese Prime Minister is coming to maralago this afternoon. Its a make good to smooth over differences. They are feeling threatened by whats going on between south korea, north korea and the United States. This is what happens when you dont have a functioning state department. We dont have an ambassador to south korea. There isnt that communication. I think has been the whole problem. Diplomacy has been put in tenth place. Not even second place. People arent paying attention to what needs to be done. Kwhawhats your advice to mes of the Foreign Relations committee. This is not easy because i think that senators have a right to make up their own decision. I do think that some of the things that mike pompeo has been saying in terms of resurrecting the state deputies and getting people back is valuable. There needs to be secretary of state. Right,0 right,0 now is syria the greate crisis. I think syria is the most complicated. The north korean thing is something that requires preparation is Going Forward with the meeting. It creates an even greater danger. Thank you so much. A timely warning. Thank you very much. Thank you. Fox news host and trump loyalist sean hannity trying to clear the air today after it was revealed in federal court that hes a client of president s em battled personal lawyer. A stunning revelation adding a new legal to his escalating legal storm surrounding President Trump. My discussions with Michael Cohen never rose to any level that nii needed to tell anyone that i was asking him questions. To be clear, they never involved any matter, any, sorry to disappoint so many, between me, a third party, a third group at all. My questions are focused on real estate. Joining me now is cory lewandowski. Thank you very much for being with us. First of all, lets talk about the president because hes been reported to be fuming over the fbi raid of Michael Cohens hotel room, he hresidence, home office. How angry is the president over this . I havent spoken directly to the president but we have seen hes very concerned that we have an fbi which has taken extraordinary steps by serving a warrant on the president s personal attorney to be looking at what many believe the attorneyclient impressiprivile. The question is, is the information they have taken from his home, office and hotel room something that needs to be reviewed or should an independent magistrate look at this. Theres a procedure and federal judges in granting these warrants granted them based on abundance of evidence because they had to present a great deal of evidence. Theres a procedure where theres a group of agents who make thur there arent attorneyclient communcommunica. It turns out three clients. I think what he has said is it was never a contractual obligation with mr. Cohen. There was no money exchanged. To call a friend which i think mr. Cohen and mr. Hannity were and ask a question does not necessarily require attorneyclient impressive lepr. I think its very clear that mr. Cohen served as an attorney to mr. Trump. Cohen and his attorneys presented this secret third client that was a client. I want to you about something you said on fox yesterday. You said that jim comey failed to protect americans during the Boston Marathon since he was fbi director. The fact is he was not fbi director for another five months. He served as the head of the Boston Office at the same time i think mr. Mueller served as the u. S. Attorney in the state of ma h massachuset massachusetts. Not during the boston marath marathon. I believe that jim comey was the head of the fbi. He had nothing to do with it but if youre looking at jim comeys record as a man who has positioned himself as an individual who is above reproach, i think we have to start looking at what he accomplished or didnt accomplish as an fbi agent. Let me ask you about the dossier that has we dont know what the facts are about the dossier but how do you know its not true . Thats like saying do you heres how the country works. You dont have to prove your innocent. You have to prove your guilty. Thats not my point. The point is its under investigation that the credibility of Christopher Steel who was the author and had very good sources and was a well regarded fbi contact in mi6 when he was still working there. It was enough of a serious issue that jim comey, bren non and clapper felt it should be presented. Do you think it was a mistake . To tell him what was out there and being discussed so he was aware of it. Presenting the dossier to the president elect wads ts the rig thing to do. To say it was your political opponent who put this together was a vital piece of evidence. They sent that to michael steel. Who was hired by republican operatives. Mr. Comey never told the president that his political opponent funded that dossier and they used it to get a fisa application warrant on a u. S. System on domestic soil. The fisa warrant stemmed from a campaign operative. Carter page. I dont know and nobody knows if that information, that dossier was paid for by the clinton campaign. It was ever provided to the judge. The warrant was on mr. Page. The information went into the carter page. Thats true. My understanding when the federal agent goes to a fisa court and asking for warrant to be issued, all the information contained has to be verified and sworn to be accurate. They can not do that because they dont know in the information is accurate. I want to make it clear, jim comey was not in the government during the boston hamarathon. Thats right. Director of the fbi. He is deciding based on public data. Hes admitted this. Based on Public Opinion data if he was to continue an open investigation on then secretary Hillary Clinton or not. Because he believed she was going to be elected president. He didnt do this based on facts. He did it based on Public Information which are foot facts. And the polling data was inaccurate. As the top Law Enforcement officer in our country, as the director of the fbi, he should not have done that. He should have simply followed the facts. This is the same individual who wrote the exonerating memo. Let me quickly ask you, the president seems to be having difficulty with his staffing, with some of the National Security team not communicating to the ambassador, to the u. N. Ambassador. There seems to be a level of dysfunction right now. Someone who cares about this president , cares about this administration, do, what can others who care about him do to get it to move more smoothly . What weve seen is weve had a president who came to washington with no political background whatsoever. Didnt have the infrastructure that i thought should have been necessary on day one to go on january 20th when he was sworn in. Theres still a number of vacant positions that are either awaiting Senate Confirmation or have not been filled inside the administration and that is a deficit this president focuses on. Then weve seen the enormous amount of leaks coming from the white house. Some from the National Security team. When we have the president of our country having a classified or private conversation with the leader of another country and that information is getting out, thats a real concern and weve now seen john bolton come in. We see larry kudlow come in. These are contemporaries of the president who are with him before election day. Thats a very important metric people have to remember. They have a long relationship with then candidate, then mr. Trump and now President Trump. Those are the people the president needs to surround himself with and i hope he brings more of them into the building. Would you join . I was there for the easter egg roll with my children. I love the whugite house. Its a great pleasure to spend a little time but not in a fulltime capacity. Well be right back. Down to ugly thin grass now theres new scotts thick r lawn, the revolutionary 3in1 solution for weak lawns. With a soil improver to strengthen roots seed to fill in gaps and fertilizer to feed the result, up to a 50 thicker lawn after just one application. Now yard time is our time. This is a scotts yard. But prevagen helps your brain with an ingredient now yard time is our time. Originally discovered. In jellyfish. In clinical trials, prevagen has been shown to improve shortterm memory. Prevagen. The name to remember. Afi sure had a lot on my mind. My 30year marriage. My 3month old business. Plus. What if this happened again . I was given warfarin in the hospital, but wondered, was this the best treatment for me . So i made a point to talk to my doctor. He told me about eliquis. Eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots and reduces the risk of them happening again. Not only does eliquis treat dvt and pe blood clots. Eliquis also had significantly less major bleeding than the standard treatment. Eliquis had both. And that turned around my thinking. Dont stop eliquis unless your doctor tells you to. Eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. Dont take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. If you had a spinal injection while on eliquis call your doctor right away if you have tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness. While taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily. And it may take longer than usual for bleeding to stop. Seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. Eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. Tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. Eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots. Plus had less major bleeding. Both made eliquis right for me. Ask your doctor if switching to eliquis is right for you. And more now on that breaking news from philadelphia. The Emergency Landing of a Southwest Airlines flight, the plane landing safely after reportedly viantly depressurizing when a piece of the jets engine flew into and broke a window. There are reports that a female passenger was partially sucked out of the plane, reportedly pulled back inside by other passengers. Captain john cocks, a commercial airline pilot, now an nbc aviation analyst, he joins me on the phone. Tell me about what you know about this kind of incident, whether there is any precedent for this kind of uncontained engine failure. Andrea, its very rare to have an airplane damaged by an uncontained failure that this particular engine has been a work horse in the fleet for decades. Its a very wellknown engine. The National Transportation safety board will look carefully to determine the cause of this failure. But this engine is a real work horse. It is highly unusual and i can only think of one other case where an uncontained failure resulted in a window being compromised and putting a passenger at risk and that was a National Airlines dc10 many, many years ago. So thats an extraordinary circumstance. But the airplane landed safely and thats the probably the lead part of the story. Tell me again, i apologize if i didnt hear correctly, what kind of engine was this on the 737 . Its a csm56, its a combination of General Motors and a French Company, General Electric and a French Company named snekma. It powered the 737 fleet and also a large percentage of the air bus a320 family. Those are obviously very widely used planes. Are they likely to do some kind of mechanical check on all of these engine types . Until we know what caused it, if this was just a one rogue carbon disc or compression disc. It had been dropped or Something Like that, then it would not require a fleet inspection. So they need to understand first what happened and theyll be able to do that reasonably quickly with the metallurgist looking at the fracture surface. Could a bird strike call this damage or would it be something far more structural . Its possible a bird strike can cause an imbalance in the compressor section and call a failure but it would be unusual. Normally if you get a bird strike, if you get blades that are bent it doesnt result in a catastrophic uncontained failure. John cox, thank you. Jay blackman, whats going on at the airport now, is there a stoppage at the airport, philadelphia . The faa has announced a ground stop for philly which means all planes bound to take off from there and all planes headed to their destination. So they can deal with the plane still on the runway. Im hearing there is one serious injury on this flight which may be the one that you were speaking of before. Whats not clear about this failure is when it happened, if it happened later on in the flight, in altitude, that makes a bird strike very unlikely. Understood. Jay blackman, i know youre going to be on this. That does it for us on this edition of Andrea Mitchell reports. Craig melvin takes over in new york. That was a full hour, andrea, thank you so much. Good afternoon to you. Craig melvin at msnbc news headquarters in new york city. Stormys sketch. In the last two hours, Stormy Daniels and her attorney released a new sketch. They say it shows the man who tried to intimidate her into staying silent about the relationship that she says she had with donald trump before he was president. Also, draining the swamp. While the focus is on the president there are some new reports about the members of his cabinet and their spending habits. The law epa chief scott pruitt apparently broke, according to the government. And new prices of the cost of his bullet resistant seats. Its not just pruitt taking heat, ryan zinke under fire as well. And starbuc
