The president knows what hes doing. I find it unfortunate but its a continued demonstration of his absence on leadership. I do believe we should take the Confederate Monument down. I believe we shouldnt white wash history. It belongs in museums not as a grading place as you enter the old kplacapital. Third largest state in the union. If South Carolina can see fit to remove the Confederate Flag, why cant the state of florida given the rich diversity we represent. What we need in leadership in the governors mansion. We didnt get that from President Trump. My governor has been silent on the issue, and the leading contender on the republican side basically said that he wasnt aware there was a Confederate Monument and my response to that is what a luxurious place to be, that you dont have to be aware that these kinds of symbols of division and derision greet people as they enter the old capital. I dont want my kids fighting this same battle and i dont think anybodys kids should have to fight this battle into the future. We need to act swiftly with dignity recognizing the history of our part of the country. And our state. But we need to move forward and be a ford thinking state. Jennifer, like most things donald trump has been all over the place on the issue of Confederate Flags. He just mentioned South Carolina and the Confederate Flag being moved there. After a lot of corporate pressure and a white and black la legislator coming together. This is donald trump back in june of 2015, before i think this is before he was an official candidate for the presidency. This is what he said about the flag coming down. Youre the lone republican president ial candidate as to whether not i think it probably does and i think it should go in the museum. Let it go. The respect whatever it is that you have to respect because it was a point in time. But i would take it down, yes. That was in june of 2015, a week actually after he declared himself a candidate for president. About a month later after he took the nomination, he sent his son to mississippi and donald trump junior said we rev veer state rights and the Confederate Flag. What is going on here . Well, this is donald trump. He will blow with the wind. Whatever he thinks people around him want to hear, or whatever he thinks will make him more popular. But lets be clear. This campaign was not based on economic uncertainty. He played on the economic uncertainty. It was based on white resentment and white grievance which he whipped up, which he used, and he now sees that this is the logical expension tension of t. And we should see that. He brought these people. These people brought him into the mainstream, and now we can see exactly what hes talking about. Exactly what he has used to rise to power, and i think we have to look carefully at the other supporters of this theme. For them, they love it, theyre sitting there going, this is so great, its working, were driving them crazy, keep doing it, they fuel it, and it just becomes aself fulfilling prophecies in some ways. Im more critical of people who have been kicking out these groups that are not just nazis, but folks who have unpopular political opinions with no due process, no free speech. There are a lot of people who i dont think are hard cases. They should have the right to be heard. Were not giving them a voice. The idea that you think some of these private businesses. Yeah, well, i think it depends. And i want to be very careful about that because obviously, as a general rule, i am wary of giving government power and regulation, i think as william f. I think in this case, the real key issue is the question of monopoly and sk ses, if you have a market in which theres 10 or 12 companies serving it, and i have a lot of choices. When you have google or facebook with 80 plus percent of market share and kicking people off their platforms. I think regulating a completely dominant Market Company are you for Net Neutrality . I have not taken a personal position on Net Neutrality. Theres so many other things in Net Neutrality. Thats giving everyone the same access. I think the baseline thing about Net Neutrality. And a lot of the hypocrisy weve seen to the left Net Neutrality should be about allowing free speech. As soon as these bad guys were speaking, a lot of people said, hey, no problem with kicking those guys off. I think theres a lot of folks like al franken who said, this is the great First Amendment right of our time. At the collegiate level when you had Football Players refusing to play unless there were significant changes in some of these administrations, thats when the teams took notice. Do the nfl players have that kind of leverage, though, in terms of their contracts . Both of you guys can handle that. Well, thats always been a challenge and they have not historically had that kind of leverage in the past. But what happened just this week, the Nfl Players Association came out and made an emphatic statement that they are going to do more to support Colin Kaepernick. And i think thats important. Take a page, borrow from the wnba. The wnba Players Association supported its players this week. They all locked arms. The los angeles team, the washington mystics, the sparks and the mystics locked arms after what happened in charlottesville. The league supported them, the Players Association supported them. So i think they ought to take a page maybe from the women and do the same thing. There were members of the st. Louis rams who did a hands up, dont shoot protest back in 2014 in st. Louis. They took a lot of heat for that as well. There were no Immediate Repercussions in terms of their careers. Has there been backlash internally on these teams . Have players been punished essentially for taking stands on black lives matter . Teams dont want a distraction and thats both legitimate and illegitimate. And you could say i mean the owners of the Cleveland Cavaliers could say that lebron james was being a distraction, but he inherently cant be, hes lebron james. I really do think that how the nfl works, its the number one cultural product in america. And if you want to do a number of shows like we saw undisputed there, if you want to do a number of shows talking about how society is breaking apart and the nfl demonstrates that, you can. If you want to do the other side of the show and say the nfl is exemplifying the exact opposite trends in society, you can. Its the number one most unifying thing. The odd thing is that the owners are, i think, outside of the mainstream of society. And some of their decisions based either on perception or their own politics, some of their decisions are hurting their teams because Colin Kaepernick is certainly one of the 50 best quarterbacks on the face of the earth. There are i can think of half a dozen teams, a couple of teams he could probably start and half a dozen teams who would greatly benefit. So if their whole thing is all we want to do is win and not have a distraction, putting this extra player on the roster might serve to win. It he accounts for one more win than he would have once your starter gets hurt, what team wouldnt rally around him saying, only, we love Colin Kaepernick. And his jersey is going into the Smithsonian Museum in d. C. , so you can still see his jersey. I want to sort of do a turn, guys, because we know that dick gregory passed away yesterday.
